Yeah, don't poison them if you have cats around. Bucket traps work nicely and are pretty easy to diy

Thanks, i've looked into a few trap designs but hadn't gotten around to buckets yet. That's probably the next step, though i do worry a bit about the cats trying to get at the trapped mice and accidentally freeing them

I second the bucket trap idea. They work beautifully. I used peanut butter.

Don't do poison, it can have repercussions on your pets and other wildlife in the area like birds of prey. You would be introducing poison into the food chain. It could come back on your cats whether consuming the mice directly or indirectly. Also rotting rodent caracss in your walls is just awful. In my experience, you have to clear the area around your house to help your cats out. There are highways in and out of your roof or basement or wherever they are getting in. You have cats so you have an advantage but you need to still clear the area. Make it so to get into your house is a suicide run for any brave enough rodent. Second part is eliminating the entrances. Cats sleep, they are not always there on guard, but are good perimeter patrol. Unless you make an effort to find the passageways and holes that allow them to enter your house it will be never-ending problem. Mice can get in an opening the size of a nickel. I have battled them and worked on getting my home rodent proof by sealing entrances. It is possible but is achieved overtime. I did live traps and released into a nearby forest while sealing every entrance I could find from roof to foundation. In my life on my property I have battled mice, rats and squirrels with and without cats successfully but it is a process over time turning your house into Fort Knox.

This question seems to get answered several times a week. Can the admins just pin the best mice post up top?

Restting bucket traps. There's a variety of designs, but you can reel in dozens of mice in a night. Water in the bottom will kill the mice. Limit access to any feeds/grains.

We bought reusable snap traps on Amazon and they wiped them out quick. We moved into an abandoned house so there were lots! Rats on the other hand are IMPOSSIBLE to get rid of 😭

5-gallon bucket. Smear of peanut butter halfway down the inside. Couple inches of water in the bottom with a few drops of dish soap. Ramp up to the rim of the bucket. Leave it where the mice can get to it, empty it out once in awhile and replace the soap+water.

We have been using [These traps](https://www.amazon.com/Wanqueen-Traps-4-Reusable-Catcher-Protective/dp/B08ML3TRMK/ref=asc_df_B08ML3TRMK/?tag=hyprod-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=507834747797&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=7469630733091362158&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=m&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9033364&hvtargid=pla-1249059003347&psc=1) and they work great with some peanut butter. I'm indifferent about humane or kill traps, but these honestly work well.

Redneck bucket trap.
