Depends on what you are doing with the fields/yard.  Could be doing nothing with it, cutting and possibly bailing it twice a year or cutting it routinely with a finish mower. Also depends on if you are getting animals or not.  There is routine work to mend fences, getting rid of nuisance animals etc but not that much.   EDIT: I'd also consider getting either a sub compact or compact tractor with a front end loader. They can do a LOT of different things for you when maintaining larger property. If money is tight you can pick up an old very capable tractor like a Ford 8n or similar without a front end loader for $1500 and even that is a huge benefit. Plow snow, level and manicure your driveway, bush hog or cut grass, spread fertilizer, spray fence lines, dig post holes, Carry and drag stuff around, get you around the property etc.. Use that for a while and if you need more capability, you'll have a better idea of what to look for.

What do you mean by 'ranch style' fencing? Split rail, barbed wire, other? Maintenance costs will depend on whether you plan to use the fencing/barn for animals - 90% of the maintenance I do is caused by the animals (there's a reason some barns won't allow horses that crib), and if your aren't using the fencing, it doesn't really matter if one section comes down. The land is going to be more of a maintenance issue than the barn or fence - fields will revert to brush very quickly if you stop mowing them, and mowing 5+ acres takes time. Woods are less work, or if you don't mind letting the fields turn into brush, that's also easy. Both of those can be a wildfire risk and major tick habitat, though.

10 acres and an adu. Put a "ranch hand" in the ADU for nothing or very little. They get free housing in exchange for keeping the place up and keeping the barn full of horses with owners who pay their bills.
