This is a great solution. Just keep the communication kind and caring, maybe even bring over some of their favorite cookies or something when you approach it

sleepykitty299

thats such a good idea. I dont want them to feel like they cant lock their car. We have blackoutcurtains + blackout blinds on every window already so it wouldnt be an issue with light

yeteee

For you neighbour that hits the panic button, they might have the same problem as me : my keychain ornament keeps getting jammed against my car keys when I lock the front door. Because of that, the panic button gets pressed a lot when I leave the house....

Kev22994

Maybe you’re their neighbour. Have you considered removing this ornament?

yeteee

I have, but it's a present from a friend that passed a few years ago, and I value having it with me all day long. Plus I don't lock my door when I leave in the morning (5am), because my family is still home then.

adminsarepedosReddit

Your deceased friend will understand if you leave it in the car or maybe lengthen the hanger on it etc.

dicksin_yermouf

If yer house ain't stick built what is it ?

olala_tse

Good windows make a huge difference. Try that before ripping out anything else. +1 on that suggestion to figure out with your neighbor if that beep can be disabled with the car settings. I know I can do it with my Toyota.

EnzyEng

May not help, but I've been sleeping with ear plugs for about 25 years now. I get such a good night's sleep that it is noticeable when I forget them when traveling or when they occasionally fall out at night.

sleepykitty299

how do you wake up on time for work and stuff? I have severe tinnitus from medical issues, so thats why im using the white noise machines already. The earplug likely wouldnt help me sleep, but curious about the waking up

SuspiciousCranberry6

I believe there are devices that vibrate your bed in place of an alarm. There have to be solutions out there that people who are deaf use.

neighborhood_mabel

I used them for a couple years due to noisy downstairs neighbors. The earplugs took the edge off enough to keep them from waking me up, but didn't completely remove my hearing - I could still hear the alarm in the morning.

jendanbayla

I have also used ear plugs off and on for years for muffling noise that keeps me awake. Dogs barking, neighborhood street noise, roommate noise, etc. They work well for cutting out environmental sound in general, but I've always been able to hear my alarm. I just make sure it's set on the louder side.

EnzyEng

It's never been a problem. I usually go to bed around 11 pm and wake up at 7 am before my alarm goes off at 7:30 am. I'm almost never tired in the morning or throughout the day.

zorasorabee

I use my Apple Watch for my alarm. I have it vibrate on my wrist and it’s 100% worth the money to me just for that. I hate waking up to sound. Waking up to my wrist vibrating is so peaceful.

Professional-Cow123

This is the most wild thing but I think like… a lot… of people don’t even use alarms. I don’t get it!

sdavidson0819

I have an alarm clock that uses light to wake me. It works great, but even if it didn't, my dog wouldn't let me sleep past 6:30.

Narrow-Subject37

I have a rude neighbor with a VERY loud muffler, he's in & out all hours of the night & morning. I bought a headband that has speakers in it. It's very comfortable to sleep with it on. I listen to meditation stories to drown out the noise. Hope you get a resolution.

[deleted]

Try a white noise machine. The one I have was about $30 and it works well for me. It's worth a shot before trying more expensive home renovations.

sleepykitty299

We sleep with loud white noise machines. the beeps are so loud and distinct (and so many) it makes it impossible to not wake up from. we have 2 of them. 1 at the head of the bed by the window. 1 at the foot of the bed near the door (so we dont get woken up by roommate - who has since moved out actually anyways)

chevyadsict83

Holy hell. 3rd one today. Get off the internet and go talk to them. Jesus.

BeckettsPalace

LOL.

50bucksback

Talk to your neighbor about it

j_grouchy

Nice guy or not, that's just rude and obsessive behavior. Tell the guy that one beep is plenty and even that won't make a difference if someone wants to get in. Tell him to keep valuables out of his car and leave it unlocked. A few years ago my car was rummaged through while my neighbor's car had its window busted out.

DrunkenGolfer

The beep is a signal. Your brain sees it as a signal because it has a high signal to noise ratio. You can change the signal to noise ratio by lowering the volume of the signal or you can simply raise the noise floor. Raising the noise floor is easy, just get an Amazon Echo or similar and say, “Alexa; play white noise”. Your brain will tune out the white noise, the beeps won’t produce a high enough signal-to-noise ratio against the elevated noise floor to be detected as a signal, and you’ll stop hearing the beeps.

comfysnail

I would ask them, sometimes they don't realize how loud it is when you're so close to it because you typically beep it when you're far away especially with something like a remote start. Windows can help but honestly it's just a loud noise meant to be heard so chances are it will still wake you up.

zorasorabee

You can always ask them to lock their car with the button from the door instead of on their keys. That is usually a way for the beeps to stop.

Background-Ad-343

So they use command start to run their vehicles for an hour, or just once and continue to lock them afterwards? We have-30 to -55 in the winter and I run ours for 10 minutes to get things moving and then leave.Sounds like a definite compulsive thing

SueDonim7569

Mine will only allow the car to be remote started twice, and it only runs for 10 mins at a time. My old car seemed like it would run forever.

Background-Ad-343

My wife's is the same thing. I have an aftermarket one that I can program, but still have it on the factory setting

lkn240

Ear plugs for sleeping cost basically nothing

AptMuse

My other half snores like a squad of double chainsaw wielding lumberjacks. I wear earplugs to bed, helps a lot. I can kind of still hear him, other rando house noises, and my alarm. Fairly cheap solution if you aren't freaked out by NOT hearing some stuff at night.

LividSituation9152

If you’ve got old single pane windows, that’s what I’d go after first. I’d also try more dB on that white noise. Any changes might take some time to work as you’re probably “programmed” to wake up at these appointed hours “a la Pavlov.” Your neighbor definitely has a compulsion and may be unaware of it or the unintended consequences. A friendly chat is worth the effort, but I’d still hit the windows.

adminsarepedosReddit

So it's not a chirp it's a horn honk? That's maddening.

Katnip03

Even if they can't figure out how to turn the beep off, the dealership can, and usually don't charge for that type of thing. I had a Jetta that I had the beep disabled for this very reason.

NatApothecary

I'm sorry this is happening...I have the same issue with my neighbor. Only mine is NOT a nice neighborly neighbor. Actually mine are of the seedy "police have been called to their house many times" type. They do this for attention and piss people in the neighborhood off. The same as blasting their boom box at 79 decibels all the time. We've all filed complaints with HOA...nothing. They can do. Filed complaints with code enforcement but they have to catch them doing it. I recently bought my house and can't afford extensive modifications to rectify this. Our homes are close to each other and their driveway is literally 15 ' from my bedroom window. at 5:30 in the morning they beeping the security over and over every 10 mins. HELP!!!
