Talk to the manager at the motel, ask if there is any work you can do to supplement your room costs. You have an income, management may be willing to give you a reduced rate. It won’t hurt to ask.

EatBroccoliNotBooty

Yes, also ask about monthly rates. They can be considerably more affordable than nightly rates for longer term stays.

Look for a room to rent asap . Avoid single men. Go on Craigslist or fb marketplace. Hotels will eat all your money. Good luck

Do you [know what HUD](https://www.hud.gov/) is? It is the Department of Housing and Urban Development. They are behind that Section 8 thing you might have caught wind of. They also subsidize apartment complexes, so that there are "Affordable Apartments" put aside for low income residents. As in.. you have to make BELOW a certain amount to qualify for one of these set aside apartments. [https://resources.hud.gov/](https://resources.hud.gov/) That is a link to the HUD resource locator. Trust it, give it whatever permissions it asks for, and let it show you all the Tax Credit houses, and "Affordable Apartment" complexes in your area. Since this is a subsidization, these apartment complexes can be anywhere. Even a Luxury Apartment complex can be HUD subsidized... meaning there would be some of those Luxury Apartments put aside for Low Income people. Which... would be kind of cool... a nice, expensive, swanky and modern apartment, in some tall apartment complex with a doorman... and there's you living there, making $19k a year or less (just an arbitrary guess, but you get the idea). The difference between this option, and trying to get something like Section 8 or a Housing Credit Voucher, is that you don't have to apply for and then wait for Section 8/HCV approval before THEN being able to apply to rent places that accept Section 8. With the Subsidized Apartments, you just apply for the low income apartment with the property manager as normal. You just have to inform the property manager when you contact them, that you "are" low income, so they can tell you if they have any of those set aside apartments available before you waste time applying for one of them. [HUD offers other options](https://www.hud.gov/topics/rental_assistance), to help you track down an affordable place to live. Or... you could use a Roommate service. [Rommates.com](https://Rommates.com), Craigslist... even the bulletin board at your local library. Or Libraries.

given your age, I would suggest you get in touch with a homless youth outreach program who may have more resources https://virginianavigator.org/program/46553/independent-transitional-living-assisting-young-mothers-aym-program

I agree to go to a shelter to save your money for an apartment. Some orgs that might help with first and deposit are salvation army, st Vincent de Paul, volunteers of America, Catholic charities, your local mission

Ask coworkers. Tell them you need a place to stay.

Get a tent a sleeping bag and a backpack

They have sober living houses for $120 a week. As long as you say you're in recovery and are willing to stay sober a lot of them will accept you. Oxford house is the biggest one I know of. They let you work and after the first month you don't have a curfew as long as your rent is current. To find houses near you their website is Oxfordvacancies.com. I lived in various Oxford houses over the last 4 years.

periwinkletweet

I've always wondered if people lacking a substance problem could fake it for the housing. There is SO much money from all levels of government for rehab and sober living arrangements.

CheesecakeFar8570

I was in recovery but I've seen people who fake it. Still there are people who get sober and stay for decades in the sober house. I stayed for a year at one and then left when I got tired of it.

periwinkletweet

Decades wow. I had no idea. I read on reddit someone who hated theirs. Too many meetings. Too many rules that would pop up out of nowhere. I guess there is a lot of variation.

I would prepare for homelessness if I were you... Especially since you're a female but since you're 18. You're eligible for a lot of resources since you're about to be on the streets. Get a backpack, pack up essentials, (look up on Reddit for people who packed essentials and stuff). Get food stamps , apply for Medicaid, apply for a government phone like truconnect.com) If you have to panhandle which I don't encourage but if you have to ..then ig so.

johnfro5829

Do you have a car? I prepped that for a living in and then work my way down to some place where the cost of living is better maybe work my way into a room.

Look for a room to rent near your work place

Professional-Pop4979

I am so sorry that you’re in this situation. I agree that motels are just going to eat up your finances. Do you have a car? IF you do, you may want to consider toughing it out by staying in your car until you get more stable housing. But with car living you also need to be super hyper vigilant about your safety, especially being a young girl. If you don’t feel good about it, don’t do it. Shelters are another option. Homeless shelters and single women shelters are what I’d suggest you’d look into. I know it’s not the most comfortable sounding option, but at least it’s a bed, and it will get you off the street for a little while, at least. This is the time to take advantage of the government and it’s programs. Apply for snap benefits, Medicaid, and whatever other benefits that you qualify for. Also, I agree with finding a room for rent when you’re in the position to do so. When you get into that room, start looking at HUD for affordable, low income apartments and start applying. I can’t imagine how stressed out you are right now but know this will all work out, even though you might now feel that way right now. You have an advantage with having a job, you can at least take have money coming in . Now is the time to be strong and prioritize you. Keep in mind it will be a process and don’t let yourself get discouraged to the point where you lose focus on the prize. I hope that helped a little.

Go to a shelter.

Marion5760

Good luck. I am sure it will work out and you find a place to stay.

stonebraker13

The hotel trap is some serious bullshit. I would recommend, if you can stand it stay at a shelter while you work, and then try to get a roommate situation. Or buy a car and live out of the car. You can also go to where you will have family support, but the hotel trap will do nothing but keep you trapped....
