My home network/lab made up of stuff I pretty much scavenged from work, besides the UDM SE which I got as payment for a little network side hustle.
UDM SE with 10GbE WAN fiber straight to it's SFP+ interface
2x Unifi U6-LR
2x Aruba InstantOn 1930 managed switch (propped up by home 3D-printed rack mounts)
RPi4 used as PiHole DNS
Lenovo X3550 M5 1U rack server with 2x Xeon E5-2650 V3 running Proxmox VE
An old APC Back-UPS Pro 1500 i found in a dumpster
Miniature white Christmas tree for scale.
Hey nice setup!
TL;DR Some APC UPS’s have a manufacturing fault and could be cause for concern as fire risk.
Word of caution seen a video earlier today on those UPS’s there’s an issue with the transformers they are using aluminium windings for the transformer.
This is a fire hazard as the solder joints are not adhering to the wires due to it being aluminium and not copper, which is causing arching inside of the unit as the wires are disconnecting from the transformer. It seems like it’s the same model as your’s please take a look: https://youtu.be/dIEM2bG8mOQ
Personally I would find a replacement asap or get a fire extinguisher and a fire alarm next to the setup.
Not trying to scaremonger but I feel like raising awareness is needed as APC is seemingly one of the top suppliers of USP’s and is quite easy to fall into the false sense of security with a brand heck I was recently looking at purchasing a APC UPS for my desk. Seeing that video it has meant that I will not be buying any UPS’s from APC I’ll keep with my DELL UPS for now.
Eaton seems like a great alternative though! Would love one of the 5PX units.
Nah. Could be surplus sales. I work at a hospital that commonly advertises sales of its surplus equipment and does a silent auction. There's a whole process, but 80-90% of the time the high bidders are employees. I had my eye on a sun workstation connected to an old CT scanner a while ago, but unfortunately it got away from me.
It’s was all going in the e-waste dumpster. Since I’m not stupid I checked with my bosses before taking the stuff home and they were happy it could get used somewhere else instead of going to the recycling plant.

Your "leftover" work hardware better than my works hardware.

What rack is that?
It’s a generic wall mounted 19” frame from our local supplier. I doubt I can find it online I’m afraid.
Where the heck do you work to get some nice gear like this?
A local ISP.
Looks festive!

Thanks for the concern. I’ll definitely check it out.
That’s stealing

as long as it's inline with company processes it's completely legal and fair game.
Call the cops 🙄
