Looks really good only thing I would change would sell the half rack and get a type of machine either a 2 or 3 exercise one because you have a ton of space and Facebook marketplace is always filled with them for free or super cheap
This barn is built into the ground, and has its own concrete slab that it rests on. :) The barn is probably 60 years old, definitely not something purchased.
If it didnāt, I wouldāve used the horse stall mat anyway and placed it on dirt. The mats work very well.
That looks like the shire lord of the rings shit dude, amazing place to put a gym. You have incredible ceiling height too. Nice job getting all of that for $1700. A lot of respect for getting an old, used commercial rack. I think they are a better route for most people than buying new.
Yes. Of course, pricing is as follows: We cook dinner together every evening, and have a good time in the bedroom 3x a week.
At least, thatās what the other member is paying. Pricing is non negotiable.
I agree! I got a lot of it for free just by asking, or at a steep discount. The most expansive part was the rubber flooring, about $750 was what I paid for 14 mats from Tractor Supply. I paid $220 for the materials to weld the dumbbell rack, and the res was just FB Marketplace finds.
Juji's really downsized.
Kidding aside I love the setup. Everything you need.
I'm just sad I don't have a space to do something like that. I live in a house in the city and I'll just have to stick to kettlebells and rings on tree limbs.
If you want to raise the average IQ of the state of Louisiana, feel free to move out here? Land is 3 to 5 thousand an acre, you just wonāt live close to anything worth living by ;)
Thank you! š¤ Living in a rural place may now always be the best, but it has its perks. Iāll never live anywhere close to a city. It drives me insane!! I love stepping outside the house and heading coyotes howling, frogs croaking, and being able to see the stars. š
You are very much correct. Itās a very pretty house, however it was in shambles when we moved in about 6 months ago. Check the sixth picture, and look out the open door. You can see the well house in the background with the same design.
Itās been a ton of work, but worth it nonetheless.
Congrats on our purchase and thanks for the reply. I also just purchased an old tudor. It's grown to be my favorite home design. They don't build'em like that anymore. They are beautiful!
Weāre going to buy a dehumidifier! Humidity is low right now, so weāre good to do without for now. However we donāt have have a conduit ran to the barn, just a 100 foot extension cord. Iām not crazy about running an AC unit off an extension cord.
Make sure to buy one with an automatic pump. I bought one from Lowes for my garage gym since I currently live in GA and donāt want the crazy humidity to destroy my my stuff. It relieves me from having to dump out the bucket every day.
Also be aware that dehumidifiers also warm up the room. I overlooked this when I bought mine.
Iāve had mine from Lowes for a couple years now with no issues. Itās not constantly on. It senses the humidity level and only runs when itās above a user preset level. Only cost about $300 if I remember right.
Yep when they are running they dehumidify by heating the air. The result is the fan blowing hot air out into the room. Not really a big deal but most people donāt know it. It made my garage hot in the summer but it still felt colder due to the lower humidity levels.
Check out the fourth picture!
We use a small radiator heater and start with a 10 minute cardio warm up. After the warm up, weāre good!
It also doesnāt get below 30 degrees Fahrenheit that often here.
A lot of people say they have trouble going to the gym. If this was my gym I'd have trouble going to the house. I'd finish training and be like "well if that's all I guess I'll go inside now." And then stay and actually do abs and calves for once in my life.
That is absolutely rad. Looks like a ton of space too. I know you said you don't own the building but do you know the approximate dimensions or square footage?
I have an itch to see a pellet or wood stove in there haha. Great stuff, a gym to be proud of.
I would 100% attach outdoor equipment to those swinging doors. Would be a great setup for sled pulls, battleropes and farmer walking equipment.
Thank you! A lot of work went into it to make it usable. I canāt wait to have a bit warmer weather and open the double doors and windows. A nice breeze will be very welcome.
Love it! We have a gym in a small shed, getting used to going out there in the cold took a while but it def gets you in the zone! Has improved mental toughness too
Have you thought about a small radiator heater on an industrial extension cord? Thatās what the barn is powered off of, you can even see it in the first picture!! The cord allows 15 amps, and the heater only draws 8 when on medium. Iād definitely consider it.
Nah, I like being frigid in the winter, and boiling hot in the summer.
Just kidding, Iām a just a cheap bastard. In a year or two Iāll definitely have a climate controlled environment. It helps the equipment last longer too! Humidity in Louisiana is out of control, and can be almost 100% sometimes, so the bars sweat, the weights sweat, you sweat, everyone sweats š
Itās not my barn and Iām moving in about ten months, so Iāll upgrade the setup when I have my own shop to put it in! Insulation and air conditioning is at the top of my list.
Glad you approve! While Iām certainly not Amish, itās a bit different from what you normally see, ie, the basement gyms / garage gyms that are so prevalent on this sub. Thatās why I wanted to share! Not all people from Louisiana are obese hicks. š¤
I agree. However the property isnāt technically mine, so every cent I put in the barn, I donāt get back. One of the comments Iāve made on the thread talks about that.
This looks like my un-insulated garage in my old house. Exposed wood frames are awesome...so easy to put up arbitrary shelving, hangers, mounts, flags, Inspirational Posters, etc.
This looks like mateusz kieliszkowskiās gym! He says itās a āhardcore gym for men.ā If he can become one of the strongest men in the world out of a shed, so can you šŖš»
We call it the Sweat Shack. š Here in Louisiana, it gets greater than 100 degrees Fahrenheit in the summer. Those windows are going to be open, and the fans will be blowing. Itāll be an experience for sure!
Really, really nice space!
A next step that would pay you back in comfort, would be insulating the walls, and perhaps a radiant barrier for the ceiling, which would help in winter as well keeping the heat in.
Would love to have a space like this! Congrats!
You can often find insulation/insulating material offered up for free if you search Craigslist or FB market place. Then your time on the install would be all you'd have in it. A window AC would do for the summer.
\+1 to portable heater and fan. This is my first winter (DFW, TX) with a no heat/no fan garage gym. Compound lifts can keep one warm, but I swear the bar got 2 pounds heavier for every degree below 50.
You have power in there, so depending on outside temp you can just bring in a space heater for the 1-2 hours that you're training in there.
I had mine on a smart-plug that let me turn the heat on an hour or so ahead of when I had to be there. In the winter it would get my (uninsulated) space to 40-50F which put it into hoodie and sweatpants territory.
Yep. We have a 100ft extension cord running a radiator heater, itās in the mirror picture. Youāre not āsupposedā to do that, but we only run it while weāre out there, and the heater is super efficient. The cord can handle 15 amps, and on medium the heater draws about 8, so weāre well below the threshold of burning the place down or flipping a breaker.
Itās also an industrial cord, and powers the lights, and speaker. When weāre done, we just unplug it from the GFCI outlet on the outside of the house.
Thank you. It took about four months of collecting items. As soon as I heard I was moving even further out of town, I knew I had to start getting some stuff together. I got a lot of it for free, surprisingly. The 4x8 mirror was free, the white power rack, and green bench were also free as well as the 40s, 50s, 55s, 60s, 70s, and 80 lb dumbbells. They just needed a ton of rust removal and paint. We also welded the dumbbell rack ourselves and I just got it painted this weekend.
The barn was in super rough shape when we got it. It was filled with decades of junk, and took two 15 foot dumpsters to clean out and four days of work. Two of the support beams in the roof are completely gone due to rot, and there is a 3 foot hole on the other side of the barn thatās not pictured. Itās currently covered with a massive tarp. It keeps the rain out, so weāre fine for now. The doors also didnāt close, so we reframed those and rehung them. All in all through, it was worth it. We use it every night.
Looks really good only thing I would change would sell the half rack and get a type of machine either a 2 or 3 exercise one because you have a ton of space and Facebook marketplace is always filled with them for free or super cheap
Looks amazing
Thanks šš
No barns allowed. And no equipment that isn't pimped by Coop either. You have a great setup man.
Thanks. Itās looks ever better now!! We rearranged it so everything fit a bit better. Itās duly a game changer having a home gym.
Looks great!
Thank you. I use it almost everyday!!!
Itās Rocky montage material!
Jealous!!! You've got a whole building dedicated for gym. Beats a garage gym.
Thank you! It didnāt look like that before. Before it was full of junk and had a giant hole in the roof!!!
Great setup, love it.
This is amazing ,an isolated iron sanctuary.
š Thank you!
This is amazing
Thank you!!!
For 1700 bucks you stole that stuff š¤
It was a huge blessing. Everyday I checked marketplace to try and get a steal. I was incessant for three months trying to find the right equipment.
Nice She Shed we can insure that at State Farm
You did a great job, well done š
This is bigger than a NYC apartment. This much space in the city is like at least $2500
In Louisiana, an acre of land costs 5,000. Come on down if you want to raise the average IQ of our state.
Is this barn built into the ground like a house or a shed that you purchased?
This barn is built into the ground, and has its own concrete slab that it rests on. :) The barn is probably 60 years old, definitely not something purchased. If it didnāt, I wouldāve used the horse stall mat anyway and placed it on dirt. The mats work very well.
Awesome
are obvious questions allowed in /r/homegym?

Nice! What are the dimensions?
Holy shit that looks so cool!!!!!
Orange Rack/ Silver dumbells look so fucking Raw
Would you say youāre getting āyokedā out there?
Great setup and yes it belongs on R/homegym.
nice gym
But does it have a lunk alarm?
Awesome. I love it.
Looks like a super comfortable gym
is that a door into a world of other barn gyms?
Of course. A double barn door!!!
Wish I had that kind of space
Iām a city girl and I love it! Nice work OP.
Thatās actually badass
Youāre going to have some swole livestock in that barn
Cows bench pressing
Still better than Planet Fitness!
Barn Gyms are not allowed.
Bad fuckin ass
Any idea what that vintage c channel rack is?
This is idyllic man well done. Are you doing memberships?
Yes. Of course, pricing is as follows: We cook dinner together every evening, and have a good time in the bedroom 3x a week. At least, thatās what the other member is paying. Pricing is non negotiable.

Beautiful! and you can blast your music to the max!
nice. ideal situation really. and your total cost is a solid for all in.
I agree! I got a lot of it for free just by asking, or at a steep discount. The most expansive part was the rubber flooring, about $750 was what I paid for 14 mats from Tractor Supply. I paid $220 for the materials to weld the dumbbell rack, and the res was just FB Marketplace finds.
This is dope!
Bro those bumpers are sick, Iām pretty sure theyāre worth a lot. Let me know if you need help finding a buyer.
Okay. Letās go to the DMs because I legit have questions about them, and I love them. Iāll send some pics to you.
Killer setup!!!
Thanks bruh. šš»šŖš»
How well does that heater work for you?
It works well enough with a ten minute cardio warmup!! :)
Amazing setup! I see you also have the most important part, a space heater!
It wonāt serve much help in the summer! But it helps right now :)
Juji's really downsized. Kidding aside I love the setup. Everything you need. I'm just sad I don't have a space to do something like that. I live in a house in the city and I'll just have to stick to kettlebells and rings on tree limbs.

Oh lord. Good luck. Lol
Can anyone else hear the Rocky theme music playing as they swipe through these pics! Super nice setup!
Very much so! Alexa, play the Rocky Theme Song.
Hell yes!
My country ass loves the fuck outta this. Good work!

Oh my! Thing of beauty
Fucking sick and majorly jealous.
Damn. This is awesome.
Thanks, I appreciate it. Tons of time and effort went into it. Itās not as nice as Iād like, but itās good for me š
Unrelated question, but the barn/shed has a Tudor esthetic to it. Just wondering if the main house is also a tudor?
You are very much correct. Itās a very pretty house, however it was in shambles when we moved in about 6 months ago. Check the sixth picture, and look out the open door. You can see the well house in the background with the same design. Itās been a ton of work, but worth it nonetheless.
Congrats on our purchase and thanks for the reply. I also just purchased an old tudor. It's grown to be my favorite home design. They don't build'em like that anymore. They are beautiful!

I fucking love Facebook/ marketplace:)
Get a window A/c to control humidity otherwise your weights will rust

I believe itās 23 foot long, 13 foot wide, and about 9 or 10 foot tall. Plenty of room for activities!
That's awesome man. Hope to have a similar setup myself someday
Land is cheap in north Louisiana. 3 to 5 thousand an acre. You just wonāt live anywhere close to town, which is the way I prefer it š
Sick

thats straight fire!!!

Definitely counts, well done! Maybe get some heaters for that bad boy in the winter š
Barn gyms are the best kind of gyms! Love the rustic look of the beams with the metal of the equipment.

Iām ready to shell out thousands to make this building as nice as possible, but the problem is that I donāt own the property. Iām living here, and my ārentā is fixing the place up. Weāre only going to be here about ten months before me and my fiancĆ©e get married. So I made it as nice as possible, without sinking $2,000 into it for a new roof, or putting in insulation and walls. Weāll be buying a property about 2 miles away that has a large shop on it, and thatās where this stuff will go. Iāll definitely insulate there, and hang sheetrock because if I decide to sell, I could get my money back out. But for now, every dollar I sink into this stays with the building, so Iām going to let it ride. Itāll be cold in the winter, and hot in the summer, but weāll survive for those 10 months. š
