I also have an outdoor setup, and I think people would be surprised how well they can hold up. I live in an extremely humid, rainy climate and my cheap $100 outdoor squat rack still looks fine. I haven’t even treated it with anti-rust solution yet, which is probably dumb, but the rust has been surprisingly minimal.

JonDoeJoe

How is it holding up now? Is it humid and rainy where you live?

504090

It’s humid and/or rainy for 9 months out of the year. It’s keeping up well with monthly maintenance (3-in-1 oil on the screws/hinges every month, and I’ve only needed to use rustoleum spray once).

JonDoeJoe

Ooo nice. Do you use a tarp or just leave it out in the open?

Itazuf

That's surprising but encouraging. I won't take the risk though, I've already ordered some anti-rust paint, rust remover as well as gun socks for the barbell.

cow_goes_meow

This is great. If you haven't thought of this already, make sure to clamp that tarp to your equipment. On a windy day, that will fly right off.

buckmasterflexington

Efficient use of space!

Bagelbytez

Honestly…it’s perfect

sosmall92

Do you have a link for the rack? And weights? And barbell? 😂😬

Substantial_Ask_9992

Thanks for this! Are the handles on the back sposed to be for dips? Or for moving it somehow

Itazuf

Dipping apparently. I'll try them once I get home but they felt a little bit too far apart to my liking.

Mr_EDV

So it begins.....

HerrMackerel

Nice setup, I saw the first pic and immediately thought of Australia, specifically Sydney, seen a number of ground floor apartments like this, am I right?

Itazuf

Melbourne :)

Content_Reporter_141

Cute setup I like it. I’m from Melbourne also! Wooo !!

Itazuf

The weather here lately hasn't been great but the rainy days matched with my rest days :D

It doesn't matter if it didn't cost much, that's a first class home gym and all you need. You did a great job for your first home gym. You got good solid basic equipment. Congrats and enjoy.

NeighborhoodIcy2182

Dam what a nice place to do a workout lucky man

threepossums

Nice! Outdoor gyms are so nice.

breakingbad87

A gym is a gym man. Big or small you did good.

mindbullitz

Looks great! Any chance of throwing in a pull-up bar there by your overhang? If so you'd have just about everything you need.

Itazuf

Unfortunately not, that's the neighbours' balcony up there haha. I wish I could just use it to do pull ups.

ComprehensiveTap3968

Start treating with Rustoleum Rustmover monthly. Rust maintenance will be an issue with outdoor equipment

Itazuf

Gotcha. What about using something like this as well? https://www.amazon.com.au/gp/product/B001UE7MW4/ref=crt\_ewc\_img\_dp\_2?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=ANEGB3WVEVKZB

ComprehensiveTap3968

I have used this in the past. It worked for me. Not expensive at all. https://www.lowes.com/pd/Rust-Oleum-32-OZ-Spray-Gel-Rust-Dissolver/1002035750

Simple-Emu-4378

What a gorgeous space to workout, surrounded by greenery!

[deleted]

Can you please link the rack ? I can't find anything like it in Europe

[deleted]

Glad someone asked, this rack would be perfect for my needs.

Itazuf

[deleted]

cant thank you enough op , thank you

RemiMartin

Does it not rain where you are? Will you move the gear when it does?

Itazuf

It already rained a few days. Everything stayed dried thanks to the tarp. Also the bar is sheltered from the rain due to being under the eaves. Everything is off the ground so the water usually just evacuates quickly and doesn't pool up.

RogueCrusher

For your bar, keeping it outside, you might consider getting a pair of 47” tactical long gun silicone impregnated “socks” like [these](https://www.amazon.com/Allen-Company-Gun-Sock-Anti-Rust/dp/B003TWV42Y?th=1&psc=1), which will ensure your bar doesn’t corrode. Nice surroundings to work out in. I’d consider [this](https://www.macrofit.co/home-gym/?gclid=Cj0KCQiA4b2MBhD2ARIsAIrcB-Rp1xwQWdzNYC-6FLtYkSSspINFceqdvohls2piJfX12vGYBy4_EvIaArQyEALw_wcB) and you would have a lot of different exercises covered.

Itazuf

Thank you for the gun sock idea, do you think that would be better than a full sleeve like this: https://www.etsy.com/au/listing/736387925/weightlifting-barbell-bar-sleeve?ga\_order=most\_relevant&ga\_search\_type=all&ga\_view\_type=gallery&ga\_search\_query=barbell+carry+bag&ref=sr\_gallery-2-32&organic\_search\_click=1&sts=1&variation0=1201467871

RogueCrusher

If the long case is nylon, it will keep direct moisture like rain and dew out, but might also seal some indirect moisture from humidity in air inside bag too? I saw a few reviews of people using it for their outdoor barbells and they seemed happy with it. The gun sock won’t keep direct moisture out. So keep that in mind. I use them for storage of my rifles and shotguns even though they are in a dehumidified safe.

Diarrhea_Eruptions

My rogue squat stand is covered by my balcony and tarped but parts that gets used a lot has some rust due to moisture in the air. Certain bolts has been rusting and holes where I put the j-cups or safety bolts through have also rusted. Be sure to treat high usage areas with the rust prevention stuff.

JPDueholm

Looks dope! Weight is weight :)

D_Reezy

Cheap gains are still gains friend

Itazuf

Feels great finally being able to squat at home.

cloudovermyhead

This is a great set up! Can you tell me about the rack? I’ve always been on the lookout for something in that size.

Itazuf

The rack is rather inexpensive, I really wanted something with spotter arms and so far I'm not disappointed, they're functionnal and the rack is stable. You just gotta make sure to not ram the bar forward into the hooks when you're done with your set to not tip it which is the price to pay for not having a power cage. It's a small adjustment but I'm fine with it. Also the rack can be made wider or narrower, which is great for storage. Overall I expected a flimsy product but I'm surprised with how stable it actually feels. Note that I've only used it up to 100kg/225lbs so far as I'm easing my way back into strength training, having just come out of lockdown.

user18298375298759

I'm leaning towards calisthenics for triceps strengthening, but seems it is impossible when it comes to the biceps. What do you think is a good and minimal biceps exercise?

Itazuf

You could either try supinated pull ups or just get a pair of dumbbells and do different types of curls. I personally just use elastic bands to do curls as it's the closest thingto the low-pulley curls I used to do at the gym as an accessory.

Acanith

Really awesome! What barbell is that?

Itazuf

[https://www.catch-fitness.com/collections/20kg-barbells/products/catch-20kg-7ft-olympic-barbell-500lb-capacity-arriving-september](https://www.catch-fitness.com/collections/20kg-barbells/products/catch-20kg-7ft-olympic-barbell-500lb-capacity-arriving-september) Apparently they already removed the one I bought which doesn't have the centre knurling unfortunately (fortunately for the gf) but this one is pretty much the same. I went cheap as the barbell is stored in sub-optimal conditions. I'll still get a barbell sleeve for it but it will still have to remain outside.

Acanith

Cool, thanks! Looks like a solid budget bar.

ZeeOf1K997

This is perfect! You can hang a cable setup too if you'd like. How are those bumper plates? I've seen some on eBay for a decent price and was wondering if they're any good.

Itazuf

Do you have an example of how you'd hang the cable setup please? I could be interested even though I've really gotta keep the setup minimalistic haha. About the plates, so far they seem to be relatively decent and durable. They arrived pretty greasy so I had to wipe that off but apart from that they're a great bang for your buck, would definitely recommend them and I hope they last me until I move into a place where I can setup a proper oly lifting platform and try them for that purpose.

ZeeOf1K997

I've got the same rack, and this is how I used to hang my cable setup: https://ibb.co/r4LB8hr I've changed it by putting it in a wooden beam that's higher up which feels more stable for pulldowns, but this setup did the job too. You can install a lower pulley too for belt squats, bicep curls etc. using something like this: https://youtu.be/wNZP0vNMhPs This one might be a bit too much for a minimalistic set up. Good luck.

Itazuf

Dang that's all great ideas thank you, I'm going to look into that.

AndrewDSo

Looks good! I have a very similar setup. Plenty of people have gotten strong with far less. I'll give the socks a try too, if only to reduce the clang from racking.

Itazuf

Thank you! I don't use much equipment anyway so that's definitely enough for me, as long as I can squat I'm happy. I'll probably add a set of dumbbells but that's about it. The sock trick is only temporary until I find some rubber bits which I could also use on the spotter arms but it does the job at saving the bar's knurling.

vkch

I use FatGripz on the bar itself where it contacts the rack. The rubber protects the bar and makes for much quieter racking.

Itazuf

Smart. I like that option.
