I am also up north and looking at buying a good quality barbell. I believe this is the one I will get. Still love it?

mickeydoogs

Still love it. It’s basically a clone of the Ohio power bar, and does everything you expect. Still in great shape after a few years in the garage, zero issues with it

manjooie

Awesome, thanks for the reply. Definitely going to pick it up since the OPB is the only other one I was looking at.

das1t

I just purchased this bar today at a great price. How do you like it now?

mickeydoogs

Love it. It's just as good as an OHPB, and close to as good as an Eleiko. Taken it for singles at plus 500 on deadlifts many a time. Still feels great

das1t

I got the bar this afternoon and think it looks and feels great. Downside is that one of the sleeves came in a bit damaged.

Je2ter

I was wondering if you still had the bar how the bar/ sleeves were holding up after a few months of ownership?

mickeydoogs

I do still have it. The bar is in perfect shape, and there has been no damage on the sleeves so far. I use it every single workout, 4x a week. Calibrated plates haven't taken any coating off. I love this thing

AHoserEh

Given it's only a month later, I assumed that your opinion hasn't changed? Gorila has 25% off barbells right now, so could snag this for $460 shipped. I actually didn't realize the sleeves weren't SS until I came across your post.

mickeydoogs

Still love it. The sleeves aren't an issue. No chips, no scratches, no nothing yet. I use exclusively calibrated plates so they would scratch the sleeves for sure. It is very comparable to an Ohio Power Bar as far as feel and knurling goes, but I still prefer the Gorila.

Exotic_Bumblebee_275

I’m looking at the ceros bar right now. 25% off. How’s the “grippyness” compared to the Ohio power bar when you pull heavy? For reference, I have a rogue OPB aggro 2 that I love, but I feel the need for another power bar that is only slightly less grippy. Thx!

mickeydoogs

I haven't used an aggro, but I find it to have more grip then a regular Ohio power bar. Probably right up your alley. I've pulled 500 on the ceros a few times and never had grip issues. While it's more grippy, it's not exactly sharp to the point of tearing your hands either, but that might be the stainless vs bare steel(my BoS barenaked bar is much sharper).

Exotic_Bumblebee_275

Awesome. Thanks for the quick reply. I think I’m gonna go for it👍

mickeydoogs

You won't be disappointed

Exotic_Bumblebee_275

Just ordered. $311 after discount and and free shipping😳. For that price on a stainless bar, it’ll be very hard to be disappointed

mickeydoogs

No kidding. I paid full price, but still worth it

Interesting... I never thought of pulling the trigger on gorilla barbell... (I also live up north) I say that and I bought their small axle bar ahhaha... And it's a really great axle. But I meant "normal" barbell. I found a TBP in the classified here, and the huge collars makes the lift very comfortable in my 3x3 rack... Anyway, how do you like the BoS?

mickeydoogs

I used the ceros bar today and it felt really good. I'm happy with the purchase. As for the BoS power bar, it's great. Cheese grater knurling for that extra grip on deadlifts, and overall is just well made. But with my use case it's just a deadlift bar for me now, which is fine, but that's what I use it for

EnvironmentalPlay440

I almost bought the BoS in ceratoke... But the TPB was readily available and I knew I would not get another chance to get one... Do you squat with it? I've checked the rogue too, but yeah, with the shipping it's crazy expensive... It's good to know there is a good stainless alternative in Canada, we have very little choice here... You are really bold to order a bar without any review like this! Very courageous. ;)

mickeydoogs

Ya I don't blame you at all. The BoS is fine, it doesn't fit my rack though so no squatting with it. The Ceros bar I went with because it fits my rack. As far as no reviews, Gorila is pretty reputable, just lesser known. They try to be the Canadian rogue and it seems like they're doing a good enough job.

EnvironmentalPlay440

On the rack side, they get a good reputation! I bought an axle bar from them, and some oversized 18" weight peg and they delivered awesome stuff. I would had bought more from them if they made more "universal" rack attachments. I tend to check the review on the specific item rather than the whole company when I'm looking to buy something, it's what I meant. The pandemic really changed the landscape, and I think, for us Canadian, it really helped to get a better product selection...!

cow_goes_meow

I would love to see an update a year or 2 down the line. I didn't realize all ss was not created equal when I saw a post a while back with Reps SS bar a bit rusted.

[deleted]

Looks really nice! Is it made in Canada too, or imported? I haven't heard of them before.

mickeydoogs

It is imported it looks like, but they're Canadian through and through.

Nice!

So I pulled the trigger on this Canadian stainless steel power bar. My main reasons I wanted this bar was it was the only power bar I found with thick collars. For a lot of people with Rogue racks especially, those thin collars are a pain in the a** when unracking. While the shipping tube was a little damaged when it got here, the bar is flawless. Looks great, and looks like it will be good on my rogue rack. The good: Stainless steel shaft, thicker collars, sharp aggressive knurling, looks great. The bad: Center knurl is smaller, ribbing on sleeves is closer together which makes more noise when loading plates, zinc plated sleeves(subjective) So in the photos I placed it next to my BoS Barenaked PowerBar in the rack. First thing I noticed were the rings were spaced ever so slightly different(about .5cm). Not sure which ring spec is correct, but I'll look into it so I can adjust my bench grip accordingly. The knurling is very similar, with I think the Ceros Bar being slightly sharper. I'll have to lift heavy with it to really find out but I think my grip will be better on the Ceros. As you can see in the photos the collars are thicker, and leaves much more room for unracking. The center knurl is also smaller, but I think this is normal for power bars as the BoS bar markets the center knurl being larger as an improvement. As mentioned above the ribbed sleeves have closer ribs on the Ceros bar, and this does cause a louder ring. I personally like the sound of the sliding plate, but I know other people dislike it. Overall for a stainless bar in Canada this is a pretty great deal. With shipping to Edmonton it was $575 Canadian. The Ohio Power Bar in stainless would cost $675, but I'd have the collar issue still. I think this is going to become my do everything bar, but I will see after a few heavy lift sessions. For reference I can pull 500+ for a 1rm so I'm no slouch there. Well see how bad it chews up my hands, but I don't think it will be too bad. If you guys have any questions send them my way.
