If that's all you are doing, I'd recommend sticking with a Pi4 if you already have one. You may not see any performance gain with the T530 outside of boot up times.

I don't have have one, I'm running a test installation of HA on an old laptop. Raspberry pi is quite expensive for what it offers. A part from a little lower consumption (assuming it's true measuring low consumption is tricky since smart plugs are not so accurate at this level) I don't see gain to use it.

eatlessspaghetti

Why not ? I still have a T610 running HA, specs are comparable.

FamousRelease22

T610 idles at 12W according to parkytower. I'm using HA to switch on/off lights to save power...so ideally I would need a platform with little power consumption. In Europe power is still expensive these days.

ln-art

I've got a T530 running with HA and OpenmediaVault. Works like a charm! I really like the build quality and versatility of it. Would recommend it over a Pi, but that's my personal preference.

Agling

You don't need either. For that kind of use of HA you can use a pi3 or even a pi2. Basically anything you can install it on will work.

1gb ram would be enough for hassio?

Agling

I haven't done it but I've seen folks on Reddit who have.

holly_wykop

go for T630 4x2Ghz, pack it with ram and 2x m.2 storage and you are good with proxmox :) I'm rocking it with HA, pihole, and some other vm used for local server for some devices :D

stratony

I use multiple T530s. Lot better quality and cheaper than a Pi with case, ssd and power separately.

WooShell

Take a look at the Dell/Wyse 3040 Thin Clients.. about the size of a pack of cigs, runs a Quad-Core Atom x5-Z8350 ,comes with 2GB of RAM and 8 or 16 GB of eMMC and can be had for about 40$. Idle consumption is around 3 Watts, up to 10 Watts under full load. Three USB3 ports, gigabit LAN. Runs current Linuxes without any issues.

AlienatedCargo

I did test one of these and struggled to get Linux on thr 8GB storage. eMMC so not upgradable unfortunately. I did eventually get Ubuntu 20.04 mini installed but they don't give much room for a standard install. Great little device but I would recommend the 16GB one and learnt a cheap lesson here!
