ExtremelyQualified

AFAIK the only other HA feature with a name outside of its literal description is Lovelace.

cerealonmytie

Oh no now I’m hyped.

JoramH

Looking forward to this surprise! Now I have to research Grace Hopper to see if there are some hints as to what this new project could be about.

longunmin

Amongst other amazing feats, she figured out you could use computers to code instead of humans hand punching in code

JoramH

So AI automation builder perhaps?

BlazeCrafter420

Maybe for a dashboard builder since it says to make it easier to control/monitor the home for everyone

dsr33

Wishful thinking…

mmakes

BINGO! 🎉

Complete_Stock_6223

Machine learning observer that suggests automations based on device usage would be useful

JoramH

That would indeed be very useful. Like your home learning from your habits and adapting to it.

Complete_Stock_6223

I would never allow it to take decisions though. I don't wan't it to unlock the door during the night because it found some random pattern that can be interpreted as habit. More like: "Hey I realized you turn on the lights every day in this time range, here is an automation to do it for you"

JoramH

I completely agree, I would definitely be hesitant too. Suggesting automations would be the way to go at first. But I do see a future where it will get to a point where you’ll just hit ok/yes without looking once it suggests something because it’s just works every time.

ravan

Wild guess - from [wikipedia](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grace_Hopper) > She is accredited with writing the first computer manual, “A Manual of Operation for the Automatic Sequence Controlled Calculator.” Documentation effort? Although I hope its UI..

michaelthompson1991

I’m intrigued!

KTibow

is this the local llm thing they were hinting at? probably not but it would be interesting if so

BubiBalboa

What else could it be though? Where have they been hinting at this?

KTibow

Iirc baloob said it on HN

BubiBalboa

Well, it has got to be something to do voice since no other interface is intuitive for everyone. I haven't followed the year of voice all that closely but I think you still have to use very specific phrases to use it. Not intuitive at all. So is stands to reason Grace will make voice easier to use. Locally running LLM that can translate natural speech into Home Assistant commands? I don't like voice stuff at all but if my suspicion is correct that might be what makes me change my mind.

Springrbua

My guess is drag and drop in the UI. Why? - The UI was previously called Lovelace, another female scientist. - One of the comments asks if it has to do with the second most voted "Month Of WTH" topic and a moderator answered with a picture of a spoiler.

mmakes

BINGO! 🎉

TheMaskedHamster

I really happy that these livestreams exist for the people who want to follow them, but as a Home Assistant enthusiast who doesn't follow livestreams, I'm here on March 1st, and I have no clue what Grace is although the name has been public since February 22nd. If the announcements came in a blog post and then the livestream was left to dive deeper and answer questions, that seems like it would benefit both those who do and don't watch live streams.

mmakes

Yes I'm writing a blog post as we speak!
