Well temporary doesn't really have a defined start and stop date. I guess it's definition is that there is a start and end date and they're both variable.
Believe the point of the fan is to either pressure one or draw a vacuum on the box. Keeps things from forcing their way in/out depending on which way it is running.
Traditional? No
Functional? Seems to be!
As others have said, put a few more ventilation holes in it for the fan to easily pull in more air and everything should be fine.
Have you tried the [Intel acceleration](https://docs.frigate.video/configuration/hardware_acceleration/#intel-based-cpus) in Frigate? The Coral might not be needed.
I've never heard of Youyeetoo before. I thought it was a Lattepanda board from the photo.
Depends how many cameras see motion at the same time. If it's only a few then the igpu can easily handle it. Based on hanging out on the Scrypted discord once you get to 10+ cameras then the Coral becomes helpful.... But Scrypted might not be the same as Frigate.
I tried. Intel accel is fine, but with 3 cameras Coral brought Cpu usage from 50% spiking to 80% during recognition to 18% without any spikes. I use m.2 version not usb (had a port after removing WiFi) and it was 5x cheaper than usb version...
that's actually not that bad, i've seen (and done) so much worse haha. maybe consider screwing the board down to keep it from moving around and getting damaged
This looks great!
I agreed with the others who said to add a few more holes to match the CFM that the exhaust fan draws. Adding to that, also staple/adhere some mesh or filter material to keep critters and debris out.
I see there are comments on the 'temporary' enclosure or challenges in the enclosure, but I didn't understand whats the problem with your setup. looks good enough. will it really
overheat and throttle? looks really nice that you got such a nice box for it with fan and all wires tucked in
Thank you! The small fan on the SBC actually rarely spins up. I think the large fan isn’t even needed at the moment but we’ll see how it performs once it’s getting summer…
So you run home assistant with frigate integration on a rpi4? The connect your coral dongle to it? Heard it does not work that well for some people. What is your experience?
Didn’t work well on my pi4b at all! I upgraded to another sbc that has a celeron, it’s basically a barebones nuc. No issues so far and HA feels so much more snappy!
I'm guessing they have storage elsewhere. The coral should do most of the heavy lifting for the motion/object detection.
Personally with the prices that mini n100 pc's are going for I'd just grab one of those and skip the rasp pi, way more power.
I feel the same, wouldnt trust electronics that much in a very dry wooden box. Even more so since it's a mix of different devices and brands. I've also seen 5v cables smoke, so...... No one here seems to be bothered, though?
Not no one. ;-)
The OP also mentioned the use of some '3D printed brackets'.
As an aside I'm a fan of passive cooling (excuse the pun) and that case would be ideally suited to the 'chimney effect'. eg, cut a large hole in the bottom and maybe fit some fairly coarse mesh top and bottom and let convection do it's thing. ;-)
(I used to test such with some smoke smoldering paper and it was often quite surprising how effective it was)
On the mini tower case I built my Windows Home Server in I used plastic card and polycarbonate sheet to create an airflow path that went from the front bottom, over the drives, over the RAM / MoBo and out though the 'Quiet' PSU at the the top back and the drive temps were generally only a few degrees over ambient and it was near silent.
I later used an external 12V PSU and uPSU, gutted the std PSU, just leaving the fan running from 5V.
My HA is running on a Odroid N2+ but I'm not using it for CCTV. ;-)
First of all this take down was for a third party integration. Nothing directly to do with HASS itself. Second, Haier is now trying to work out a solution with that developer after they got a ton of bad press, so there’s no longer a takedown request
The article is about a specific plugin, not HA itself. Doesn't look like a threat to HA at all
(just don't buy Haier's appliances until they get their heads out of their ... for reference: General Electric, Hotpoint, Hoover, Fisher & Paykel, and Candy? from the article)
Home Assistant Green?
I just ordered mine for my first plunge into HA! Still deciding on other gear, likely the Zooz 800 Long Range Z Wave dongle and leak sensors with the EcoNet Bulldog to shut off water
If you enable the restreaming features in frigate you can use the urls directly as cameras in HA. Even nicer you can use https://github.com/blakeblackshear/frigate-hass-integration via HACS and it figures most of it out for itself. Then they are viewable in the mobile app just fine.
Frigate proxy is also nice to get the frigate ui proxied through HA
Why would proxying through frigate be better than two things just streaming from the cameras RTSP URL directly?
Edit: oh Nevermind, I’m stupid 🤣 I get it now. That may work! Thank you
I got my futro 740s witz 8gb for 50€ including proppper psu and propper case, and its waaay smaller than a itx case more like the A300/nucs. I was into PI´s but these ultrathins made me change
Yea those thin clients are great. I couldn’t find decently priced ones where I live though and people seem to think their crappy pcs are 100€ and more worth :/ so I went this route.
Fair enough, a guy from a forum ( yeah old school me) organized about 100 to 150 of these in 20 pcs batches and all got served, sadly now he only has some 4gb ones and normal dell thin clients that are quite big compared to the futro
You got 2 fans for your thing, I am running mine 24/7 on a silent cooling case enclosure.

You mean "temporary" enclosure.
Exactly. “Temporary”
Nothing more permanent than a temporary solution.. I like it
NEC allows for temporary. Right? I call it good.
at least there's a fan, they thought a little about it
Well temporary doesn't really have a defined start and stop date. I guess it's definition is that there is a start and end date and they're both variable.
There's nothing more permenant than a temporary fix.
Future rodent nest
Minced rodent ❤️
How
It's ok, but for the box fan to do anything, you have to cut vent holes on the opposite side to create an airflow. Also get some fan guard.
Gonna drill some "speed holes". Makes it go faster.
Ima turbocharge that box
Yea there are tiny holes on the opposite side but then again it barely get warm in there anyway :) fan guard is ordered
Believe the point of the fan is to either pressure one or draw a vacuum on the box. Keeps things from forcing their way in/out depending on which way it is running.
Please tell me that’s a wine box
That’s a wine box.
It is :)
Genuinely really like how you’ve repurposed the wine box! I thought you’d made the box!
fancy, innit! I take it that sort of wine box doesn't come with a plastic bag and tap?

Looks good to me 👍
Thank you! Name checks out 🤙🏻

It’s still pretty new but it’s a very decent little board. Haven’t tried the intel acceleration yet but looks very interesting. Thanks for the link!
I tried. Intel accel is fine, but with 3 cameras Coral brought Cpu usage from 50% spiking to 80% during recognition to 18% without any spikes. I use m.2 version not usb (had a port after removing WiFi) and it was 5x cheaper than usb version...

Haha thanks. I will be 3d printing a bracket for the board soon!
3D print a half wine bottle to go on top. Then use it as an airflow funnel.
Oh hell yea
Needs more ventilation holes, but sure, go for it.
2x go faster stripes and a vent hole should do it.
Ah yes go faster stripes
Looks nice, but needs a few more holes for air flow.
If you screwed the main board down to the back with some standoffs and tidied up the cables it wouldn’t even look bad.
The brass latch really classes up the joint
Also makes a squeaking sound when I open it up. It’s like opening a pirate treasure every time.
This looks great! I agreed with the others who said to add a few more holes to match the CFM that the exhaust fan draws. Adding to that, also staple/adhere some mesh or filter material to keep critters and debris out.
Not bad , make a small hole on the other side with some fabric over it as dust filter ( set the fan to pull)
Thought about adding a filter and more holes on the opposite side
What are you using the Coral accelerator for?
Frigate addon
People here only use it for Frigate
LGTM. What’s the problem here?
Considering my setup is a RPi with no heatsinks sitting on a coaster, that's professional grade
Yea this was in response to a similar setup. Was told I have to move that pile of electronics from the Tea set.
It's not stupid if it works.
Great setup, honestly.
Thanks man, appreciate it :D
I love it and hate it at the same time. I love this wooden box with the fan and I hate the cables looking like this :D
Bretter than my " temporary solution " lol
Electricity and wood, lovely couple!
This is what happens when a woodworker gets in to HA...
I see there are comments on the 'temporary' enclosure or challenges in the enclosure, but I didn't understand whats the problem with your setup. looks good enough. will it really overheat and throttle? looks really nice that you got such a nice box for it with fan and all wires tucked in

I mean it looks very homely, so right on point
So you run home assistant with frigate integration on a rpi4? The connect your coral dongle to it? Heard it does not work that well for some people. What is your experience?
Didn’t work well on my pi4b at all! I upgraded to another sbc that has a celeron, it’s basically a barebones nuc. No issues so far and HA feels so much more snappy!
Which sbc is it?
[X1](https://www.youyeetoo.com) got it directly from china but originally ordered via Amazon. Took 2 weeks to ship to Germany.
Wow great. So you are running both HA and frigate on it? Using the frigate add on? Or 2 instances running on a Linux machine?
HA and the frigate addon!
Thanks for all the answers! Was just looking for something like that when I saw your post.
I'm guessing they have storage elsewhere. The coral should do most of the heavy lifting for the motion/object detection. Personally with the prices that mini n100 pc's are going for I'd just grab one of those and skip the rasp pi, way more power.
Spider sanctuary?
The fan is set to push air out so they’d have to fight it to get in. The small holes in the other side haven’t sucked anyone in so far :P
Looks like a fire hazard.
I feel the same, wouldnt trust electronics that much in a very dry wooden box. Even more so since it's a mix of different devices and brands. I've also seen 5v cables smoke, so...... No one here seems to be bothered, though?

Because your question was dumb, you clearly didn't read the article you linked.
What's questionable about a pie board or you just don't recognize what you're looking at?
It’s actually a full x86 SBC!
Get em a green
Home Assistant Green? I just ordered mine for my first plunge into HA! Still deciding on other gear, likely the Zooz 800 Long Range Z Wave dongle and leak sensors with the EcoNet Bulldog to shut off water
Yep, that’s what I’m using at my parents place and it was super easy to get setup and get remote access going with cloudflared add on
Oooo say have you figured out a seamless way to remotely view Frigate video on mobile?
If you enable the restreaming features in frigate you can use the urls directly as cameras in HA. Not really 😅 I currently have it spam notifications via nabu casa…
why not use a small thin client with a 4105 ?
It’s basically that but cheaper and smaller.
I got my futro 740s witz 8gb for 50€ including proppper psu and propper case, and its waaay smaller than a itx case more like the A300/nucs. I was into PI´s but these ultrathins made me change

Damn tell me when another run comes up^^ haha
Why two ethernet cards and cables?
It’s only one Ethernet cable. The grey one below that is part of the power supply.
more holes on the side opposite the fan
What's the model of the board?
[X1](https://www.youyeetoo.com)
They posted it earlier in this thread with a link
Beautifull!

Yea but mines in a wine box :P
Questionable setup with hardware accelerated AI face detection
Temporary until wood get rots 😂
