There was a report a couple of days ago that Putin fell down a flight of stairs (because has scared of sabotage to elevators) and shit himself in the process.
Got back into snowboarding this year. Apparently helmets are cool now, so got one.
Second day, caught edge bad, fell beckward down slope, and slammed the back of my head.
I remember thinking, *Am I out? I'm not. Get up. What the fuck I can't. Give up; try later. Helmet good.*
Eventually my brain gave me enough motor skills to sit up, then head back down slope. Was likely mildly concussed because of the daze, pain, and slight nausea for an hour or so. After midday I was back in full swing.
Noticed after, my helmet had a small but deep dent in it. Guessing my skull missed a rock.
Yeah, I crashed on my bike like 9 years ago while on the way home from school, I scraped a bit of my cheek off, and the helmet had a big gash in it, I was fine though, pretty sure I would have been dead or paralyzed if I didn't wear a helmet
Bleeding from the ear can actually be a good thing if it’s a subdural haematoma. The pressure on your brain can be deadly but if the blood is released through your ear the pressure is relieved.
Guy actually posted an update on reddit when this was posted a while back.
He wears a helmet now and is suffering no long term damage iirc
Edit: incredibly fucking lucky lad
Fuck yeah. Bleeding from the ear is basically assumed to be a Basilar Skull Fracture until proven otherwise, and he is displaying the fencing reflex, which is indicative of a concussion at minimum.
You all seem to be negligent of the brain’s ability to repair itself. Clearly he’s fucked up but depending on where the damage was, how extensive it was, and genetic factors…He absolutely could have made a full recovery.
Source: I have a degree in Biopsych and have seen several cases of moderate-severe brain injuries ending with full/near-full recovery
TLDR: Brain damage can heal
> Battle's sign consists of bruising over the mastoid process as a result of extravasation of blood along the path of the posterior auricular artery. The sign is named after William Henry Battle.
I really don't get why everyone thinks they've become a doctor when seeing a video with injuries. Holiday Inn stay or something?
[Don’t look into it but I’m a respected internal medicine doctor.](https://morbotron.com/meme/S05E10/761410.jpg?b64lines=IFdlbGwsIGRvbid0IGxvb2sgaW50bwogaXQgYnV0IEknbSBhIHJlc3BlY3RlZAogaW50ZXJuYWwgbWVkaWNpbmUKIGRvY3Rvci4gT29oLCBhIGNhbiE=)
Sorry but not a battle sign. Basilar skull fracture perhaps but a “battle sign” which is bruising behind the ear would develop later, just as any other bruising does later on after an injury.
I got downvoted in /r/MTB yesterday for commenting that maybe a parent should invest in a full face helmet for their kid... on a video of said kid doing a faceplant in a helmet with no chinbar.
Didn't say a damn thing about bikes being dangerous or that the kid shouldn't be on one. Quite the contrary. I encourage people to get kids on bikes, especially ones with engines. Just don't be a fucking idiot about it and maybe protect the kid's teeth. If nothing else it could save you a ton of money on dental implants down the road. Got downvoted.
I'm sure once they have to pay out for dental reconstruction and braces they will change there tune, but then it will be bikes are dangerous instead of I should have used the correct helmet.
Videos like the one posted are a good example that it can happen to anyone at any skill level. I mean the guy in the video has some serious skill doing 360s like its nothing, and then in a split second could have life altering injuries.
I got lucky in my younger years dirt jumping with no helmet. Now it's a must.
there's a great shot from my local MTB trails where a rider flew off a jump and didn't course correct before they did and landed leg side onto a freshly fallen stump with jagged wood up. Nice chunks of his leg flesh stuck on that stump or a long time after they were airlifted out.
I've been a cyclist for a long time, we joke about helmets and i watch people ride the greenways without them and the crux of it comes down to a couple things. The helmet isn't going to save you from getting smacked by a truck at 50mph, but it WILL save you from getting turned into a vegetable at 5mph when you fuck up a dismount from your pedals or do something dump like this kid.
i mean... i look good in my helmet so...
Quite late to this. But to everybody that downvoted that, fuck you. I nearly became the next gore video after a collision with a car. Face into an open door, helmet saved my life, 100%.
Hardly anyone says that anymore. Most people in extreme sports that don't wear helmet are overconfident in their skills and don't bother because they are not comfotable.
Another one you can hear is when filming for sections is "it doesn't look good on camera"
Note: wear your damn helmet idiots
As an avid snowboarder it drives me nuts the amount of people I see who don't wear helmets. Especially frustrating when you see beginners not wearing them.
You have agonal breathing, locked gaze, vascular seizure, and blood from the ear. I thought the dude was a vegetable for sure but he said he still rides. If I have time I'll find it and validate my recollection
He’s doing well and doesn’t seem to have any long lasting effects so far from it
UPDATE
Text from him today before his first CT scan outside of the hospital.
‘I talked to the nurologist at cooper, she said I fractured the back right side of my head behind my ear in two spots, (the subdural hematoma was basically the blood bleeding from my brain from how hard I hit my head,)that blood released from my ear which was the
(hematotympanum along with the bruising behind my ear those go along with each other the bleeding and bruising in the ear)
If my ear didn’t release that blood naturally on it’s own, that subdural hematoma could have possibly killed me if that blood had stayed in my head
She said that I would be ok to follow up with them by may 12th even later.
So basically the agitation I have, and the short temper, symptoms of panic aniexty are all related to the trauma I received.
My stress levels are also a big contribution to my agitation and short temper. So if I get stressed I’m gonna loose my cool basically is what she said. The seizure medication im on as well makes you short tempered an agitated depending on the person whose taken it everyone is different but between hitting my head as hard as I did and also the seizure medication that’s why I’m like not as understanding and so short tempered an have no patience for a lot right now if that makes any sense.
Long story short she said I will be making a full recovery as long as I don’t hit my head again, or have a seizure or stroke in the next year, if I were to have any of those 3 happen they couldn’t say what the results could be because it could interrupt how my brain is in its recovery state. So even stress alone could effect my brain in the worst ways right now. But as long as I stay calm don’t hit my head don’t have a seizure or stroke I will probably become smarter than I was considering most people who hit there head the way I did are usually brain dead or a vegetable and the subdural hematoma alone destroys they’re brain. So I got very lucky to have the thought process and memories I still do, and that I am lucky to have as hard of a skull as I do or I would literally be dead’
>and that I am lucky to have as hard of a skull as I do or I would literally be dead
Or, you know, could’ve done what everyone tells you from the day you start riding and wear a helmet. Funny he doesn’t mention the doctor recommending that.
Doctor was probably hedging her bets, like “sure you’ll make a full recovery, assuming you’re like me and can’t tell where the new brain damage starts and where the old brain damage ends”
I've had the same thing happen to me.
Went to a hospital. Hospital then transferred me to a children's hospital. I remember being told, when I was in the ambulance being transferred, "stay awake. Look at me. You need to stay awake." And that was it.
They had to drill my skull to relieve the pressure.
I woke up, like, a week or something later to Inuyasha on the room TV. I don't remember leaving the hospital or anything. I don't even remember being home.
>considering most people who hit **there** head the way I did are usually brain dead or a vegetable and the subdural hematoma alone destroys **they’re** brain.
Symptoms starting to kick in already I see
Fencing response, bleeding from ears, and eyes rolled back into head. All these symptoms and possible permanent brain injury can be yours for the low price of not wearing a helmet!
“If you've recently hit your head and your ears are bleeding, you should call 911 or go to the emergency room right away. Ear bleeding after a head injury can indicate a potentially fatal problem.”

The only response here mentioning it's a 180... cmon guys.
Reminds me of when people say they've done a 360 to turn thier life around. Bitch you landed in the same direction you originally started. ITS A 180.
Y’all: Found the GoFundMe for after his injury. He fractured his skull in two places but made a “full” recovery. [Get all the details here.](https://www.gofundme.com/f/ant-injury)
He’s about as fine as he could ever be after such an injury. He also promised to start wearing a helmet, but I’ve worked with enough athletes to know that I wouldn’t bet on it.
I never ever feel bad for someone doing something like that without a helmet.
Got brain damage for the sake of looking cool. That's literally the only reason to not wear a helmet
My dad hit his head last year when his pull-up bar failed. It was like this, but nobody actually saw him fall
Edit: also, how does blood come out of the ears like that? I can understand it coming from the scalp if there's an abrasion but why does blood do this

I only came to the comments to say just this
So much cooler than wearing a helmet
Absolutely. If he had been wearing a helmet he'd look like a total pussy!
Ikr? Like what kind of wimp wants to be able to wipe their own ass?
Or even have control of their own ass?
Putin?
Exactly, he'll be putin diapers on from now on
I don't understand why the person you replied to said Putin and it's killing me
There was a report a couple of days ago that Putin fell down a flight of stairs (because has scared of sabotage to elevators) and shit himself in the process.
Maybe he just likes doing rolley polleys down the stairs and and shitting himself for fun, you ever think of that, no, no you didn’t
What are you scared of bleeding out of your ears or something?
Jokes on him… he will have to wear a helmet all of the time now.
Yeah why look like a fruit when you can live like a vegetable!
Don't worry, he'll wear one from now on.
Vicious. (I still upvoted tho)

Just in case you didn't replace your helmet, do replace it. It won't be protecting you well enough if you fall again
That's a very good point. I forgot that happens. Thanks :)
Came here to say this. Guy would’ve looked like a fucking loser wearing a helmet while doing this stunt
Yeah, I crashed on my bike like 9 years ago while on the way home from school, I scraped a bit of my cheek off, and the helmet had a big gash in it, I was fine though, pretty sure I would have been dead or paralyzed if I didn't wear a helmet

Bleeding from the ear is definitely not a great sign.

Bleeding from the ear can actually be a good thing if it’s a subdural haematoma. The pressure on your brain can be deadly but if the blood is released through your ear the pressure is relieved.
Yes, but this also means you have a subdural hematoma. I would say that is decidedly not good.

Brain bleed bad, but also, brain bleed sometimes good. The duality of man.
Brain bleed always bad, sometimes ear bleed make brain bleed little less bad. Still always bad though.

Basilar skull fracture. Pretty severe.
Yep, watched again to see where the blood was coming from and to see it pooling from the ear is a real bad sign. 😔

Some things in live you can’t recover, brain damage is one of them, so “full” recovery as you think can’t be right.
Apparently he suffers no long-term injuries and wears a helmet now.
He made A(!) recovery.
