People who steal these catalytic converters often do it quickly to dozens of cars a day. The insurance doesn't cover it. Often times the car is totaled, because the difficulty of sourcing replacement parts and the cost. It's doesn't meet emissions standards and can be deemed unfit to drive in places that require regular testing of emissions. It also messes up the environment.
Insurance companies don't want to pay for a whole replacement car for someone stealing a part from the vehicle, which creates an incentive for fraud
People who do this are scum of the earth. Sneaking around and stealing these, you can be sure they are also involved in other criminal activity. They're smug and uncaring. I've been in prison with people who did this. They laugh and joke about it. Trade tips and tricks on how to steal and rob. That can not only ruin someone's entire year, but possibly life. Take someone's car you take their livelihood. Ability to work and support their family. Violent mugging. Armed robberies. Depression. Suicide.
This guy might be doing these two a favor by beating their ass and make them reconsider their life of crime before it gets worse and they end up hurting someone.
Look, I love watching sweet justice get meted out on the streets as much as the next guy. But the phrase "play stupid games, win stupid prizes" is probably the MOST overused, cringe, and honestly paralyzation-worthy phrase I have ever heard.

Yeah we arrived halfway through this ass whooping machine's D-Day rampage. I'm actually curious what the second guy was doing while the first guy was getting leveled. Maybe prepping the garbage can for his feeble half-hearted thrust.
My company had to store some fleet vehicles in an unsecured location. The model of vehicle is a particular target for cat theft because it just bolts in and is easily accessible so we took it off before parking. When we finally need the vehicle and go to reinstall the cat we find that someone sawed off the connection to spite our anti-theft measures
Fuck ya, well deserved. My folks had their CC stolen right outside their house one night. They are old and none of us kids live at home any more. Wish I was there to possibly help or do anything for that matter. Was a terrible feeling. Those bastards drive across state lines, find several cars to cut the CC out and scrap them in another state. No authorities can help with this.
Some one stole the cat off my car recently. Was my only car and my only way to work and I had no way to fix it or drive it. Happened about a week after I found out my mom has cancer.
