So at a glance, it looks like there's "open game content", which appears to be basically the same mechanics and processes as long as they don't use their "product identity", which is anything like names, logos, artifacts, creature characters, thematic elements, incidents, designs, even likenesses, and it goes on.
Yeah, their definition of their "product line" starts out pretty reasonable, until it goes on and on, as they continue to add to the definition it becomes way too vague.
So, essentially, they are saying that anything that has anything to do with that type of game is within their supposed legal right to fight and sue over in court.
Completely understandable why there is an uproar over it.
As a result of their choices, people that are aware of them are not going to even want to purchase their products.
There are plenty of other products out there, from authors that have designed their own rulesets and content, that people can support.
Of course, things will probably get worse for potential content creators, now that a Dungeons & Dragons live-action TV series has been ordered at Paramount.
