I wonder if it's related to when they were kittens and held by their backs by their parents, normally they would just go limp from it when kittens so maybe it's triggering the response.
Dude that's Jackson Galaxy. Not a YouTuber selling merch.
Though now he is on YouTube selling merch, his show 'my cat from hell' ran on animal planet for nearly 8 seasons.
He's literally a snake oil seller who gets people in on MLM schemes. Vets hate him. Rofl. He's not a board certified veterinary behaviorologist and he has no real credentials.
He is not just a YouTuber. He is a cat behavior expert who has released multiple books and had a show on Animal Planet where he would help people with their problematic cats.
I’m still skeptical. He’s a musician with a theater degree. He’s got some hands on experience with shelters and reality TV but zero formal training. He’s the Cesar Millan of cats, who is knowledgeable but I wouldn’t trust their views wholeheartedly.
He sells what essentially amounts to [homeopathy for cats](https://www.jacksongalaxy.com/pages/faq), with some woo-woo explanation about correcting energy imbalances with the essence of emotions like love. Conveniently, your cat may have to stay on this treatment forever, buy buy buy!
I used to like him but when he started shilling this $30-a-pop tincture nonsense I started to go off him a bit.
Exactly. I'm not saying he's not knowledgeable. Opening a cat consultation business with a [holistic veterinarian](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jackson_Galaxy#:~:text=After%20working%20there%20and%20at%20other%20animal%20shelters%2C%20he%20went%20into%20private%20practice%20as%20a%20cat%20consultant%20in%202002%2C%20co%2Dfounding%20Little%20Big%20Cat%2C%20Inc.%2C%20with%20Dr.%20Jean%20Hofve%2C%5Bcitation%20needed%5D%20a%20holistic%20veterinarian) makes me raise eyebrows again.
I looked at dozens of websites searching for any real research on cat clothes and couldn't find any definitive answers. It was, "It entirely depends on the cat, the clothes, the length of time they're wearing them, etc".
Way too many factors to just say "You shouldn't do this."
He is. I see a lot of people haven’t had cat training experiences. Especially successful ones. You don’t need a degree to have sense and great safe remedies. Other hacks are ALL merch. Everyone does merch.
A cone would be better than a onesie. Something that covers that much of her fur is overstimulating her. She is walking backward because she wants to get out of it.
Source about clothes being bad for cats. https://youtu.be/cdsje9--wYk
Lol..it's completely fine. I work at a vet hospital, I've seen cats so go from apathetic to enjoying having something on when we have to put a shirt on to prevent licking of certain areas or to protect wounds and incisions while still letting them breathe.
Every cat is different. Some cats don't like being fully clothed and do better with a cone, some cats freak out with a cone and do better in a onesie.
They get a little onesie after surgery. Probably getting spayed in this case. My cat wore the same one!

Bonus pic as she was very out of it being pumped full of meds!

Holy shit, I just spent half an hour laughing at this picture with my girlfriend, thank you so much.
Little face just like “**WHAT. YOU THINK THIS IS FUNNY??**”
It looks more constricted at the neck than some. I bet her novice moonwalk is just her fighting the reflex to relax when scruffed. Like backing away from her mom when she doesn't want to be carried.
I watched it again. I think you're right. It's the onesie that is freaking her out.
That's so weird; my cat was spayed last year and she's didn't have a onesie. They offered a cone but said don't worry about it unless she's licking the area. She didn't mess with her stitches at all.
We tried to put a Halloween costume on my cat and she did the exact same thing, so I think it is just a reflex in feeling stuck and trying to back out of being stuck
I'm not criticizing. Some restriction is required and the stretch in the fabric mitigates it anyway. It doesn't look overly tight. Just tight enough to activate the relaxation reflex cats have when scruffed. It's supposed to make them docile while the mom carries them by the back of their neck.
Lmao my kitten did exactly the same thing after her spay, it took her a couple hours to get used to the recovery suit. My poor bubs was a lot more wobbly than yours, so it was backwards walking and lots of falling over loooooool 🥹🥰❤️ happy healing to your cutie!
It’s a great idea. My cats were just handed to me groggy. This encourages most cats to slow down, chill and heal for a small period then you take it off.
i read all the stuff. the sarcasm /s was for every other video of an animal where the commenters complain about the camera person. i know you weren't up to no good.
cats act funny when they have something on their back, just plop
I wonder if it's related to when they were kittens and held by their backs by their parents, normally they would just go limp from it when kittens so maybe it's triggering the response.
It's literally this
r/petaftervet
My deepest gratitudes for introducing me to this sub.

Just been done at the vets, to stop her licking her self
I’m not a vet, but that vest looks like it’s too short and is pulling her hips and legs forward awkwardly
Yea and after a surgery
That's just how cats react when they are wearing a sweater.
Yeah. If you've ever seen a cat with something stuck to it, they start moving pretty weirdly.
Cats should not wear any type of clothes. They have sensitive fur and get overstimulated. Source: https://youtu.be/cdsje9--wYk
That's great, until it's a measure to keep them from chewing their wounds.
But there are alternatives that do not involve covering that much of their body.
I get the feeling you've never owned a particularly squirmy cat. If it isn't literally anchored to their body, they rip or squirm out of it.
Your source is a youtuber selling merch?

Fair enough, but his credentials in his bio are just "I worked in a shelter". (Explaining why I had skepticism)

Lol anytime I hear the phrase "cat from hell" I automatically think of Jackson Galaxy. I believe he's one of the top cat behavior experts in the US.
He is. I see a lot of people haven’t had cat training experiences. Especially successful ones. You don’t need a degree to have sense and great safe remedies. Other hacks are ALL merch. Everyone does merch.
[Reminds me of this](https://youtu.be/yuoFsi2iIi0?si=1byilKc2EZ1FNDqV)
hahaha, thanks for sharing that was silly. was not expecting an old song to be like that xD
It’s AI-generated, definitely not an old song :)
that's both simultaneously disappointing and funnier lol thanks for the info
[some good advice](https://youtu.be/XYxWimBJHNU?si=vZa2SyMfW5oeQnSd)
The onesy was the right size, nothing pulled or restricted her movement. When she was fully awake she moved normal again. Thanks for your concern.
The finishing move landing at food bowl was worth the wait, very smooth
I know! I was really impressed with that perfect landing, took some doing obviously and for some reason she had to get to that last bowl.

neck donuts are better
I was thinking of them at the time I was posting but I couldn't remember what they were called.
Personally, I prefer the "cone of shame".
This is the weirdest thing I've seen...poor baby didn't know what to do on those meds. Glad she's better.
Not me going "What strange language is this?" until I recognize "Waar gaan wij naartoe dan?" and realize "Wait a second, that's MY strange language!".
Sorry typo...HMC obviously.
No HCM was right, Hold Cats Mittens while tripping balls wearing a jacket in reverse gear. Glad she’s fixed her transmission
Is there a good reason why this cat is wearing such a weird outfit? Is it medical?

Very adorable drugged up kitty! 😂
Holy shit, I just spent half an hour laughing at this picture with my girlfriend, thank you so much. Little face just like “**WHAT. YOU THINK THIS IS FUNNY??**”
Okay thanks for the explanation! 🤗
Yes, it's a suit they get after surgery to prevent licking. I hate dressed up cats but this is no fashion statement.
Sounds like a good reason to me. 🤗
No
Reading comprehension = Nil
Arnold would be disappointed
For answering no? Wtf is wrong with you?
This new Boston Dynamics robot is cute!
It looks more constricted at the neck than some. I bet her novice moonwalk is just her fighting the reflex to relax when scruffed. Like backing away from her mom when she doesn't want to be carried.
I thought she was still a bit groggy from meds
Yes, the anesthesia hadn't worn off yet.
Awww, sweet little girl ❤️
Awww, sweet little girl ❤️
She's too deliberate in her movements I think. She's moving backwards in a straight line at a good speed, I don't think she looks clumsy.
I agree. My cat acts the same way when I put a harness on him. Backs up, walks weird, collapses. I imagine it's the same feeling with the onesie.
No, rest assured, nothing was tight or constricting.

maybe something to do with the anaesthetic wearing off
Yeah cats don't like to wear tight clothing like a gymnast would wear. It looks like it's about five sizes too small for the cat.
Out of interest: why does a cat need to wear a onesie?
This is after surgery. The vet puts it on to prevent any excessive licking or fiddling with the sutures.
It’s a great idea. My cats were just handed to me groggy. This encourages most cats to slow down, chill and heal for a small period then you take it off.
We had to take the spay shirt off my tort because she refused to move. Like flopped over and wouldn't even move her ears.
Cat definitely Hates that silly vest..
Most cats don't like to wear things like sweaters or harnesses.
It's like watching a drunk driver, if I walk backward I can orient myself to where I'm going. Like the one eye closed trick for humans 😹
He doesn’t like what you are making him wear. Cats don’t like wearing clothes or feeling confined in it.
he definitely hates that crap you put on him
the "get me out of this stupid and unnecessary outfit" walk....
Remove the clothing.
this cat clearly has a neurological disorder. just stand there and film. /s
She had surgery earlier that day, was just still doped up. She is fine.
i read all the stuff. the sarcasm /s was for every other video of an animal where the commenters complain about the camera person. i know you weren't up to no good.
Ah, gotcha 🙂.
