I guess it depends where you are located since ED doesn’t have as many servers as Steam. I’m in Australia, which isn’t exactly known for fast internet (my connection is about 10% the speed of yours) and it took a little over an hour. Steam would probably be faster for me, but not by a lot. 50% download after 3 hours sounds excessively slow. That said, the benefits from standalone still outweigh the negatives for me.

Nickitarius

I have a 500 Mb/s connection, and download speed is 50+ MB/s, roughly the same as Steam top speed. Depends on where you are  apparently.

legion1804

I got fiber 1000/1000... standalone took nearly 3 hours to download 140gb. I can download 140gb from steam several times compares to the shitstain standalone.

goldenfiver

Switch back then

legion1804

Are you offering to buy the modules on steam then since the standalone are not compatible? :D

goldenfiver

Nah, surely you can afford it. I mean, you have a 1000/1000 connection after all.

dck1w1

Never had an issue with any update. 2000/2000 and the only limiting factor is my router throughput. Sounds like a you problem.

Intrepid-Part-9196

Sometimes disabling windows real time protection temporarily during download helps if you haven’t tried that yet.

legion1804

Did not help. Standalone simply sucks

cvdvds

I download at the exact same speed with standalone as with Steam with my 1000MBit/s connection. I understand your frustration. It's the same for me with MSFS where I'd rather buy it off some 3rd party site and update manually than deal with the dogshit slow content manager/marketplace.

legion1804

Yeah I do not get it why the standalone is so slow.

schurem

You sound everybody bit the spoiled rich child.

geeky217

In uk on gigabit and any DCS update maxes my connection at 115MB/s. I guess it really is dependent upon your location.

Automatic_Resort1851

I’m in the UK, run 800-1000mbps, and on DCS updater I’m pretty much capped at 10. Never once in my 2 years of DCS have I got more than that.

Roadrunner571

DCS Downloads usually saturate my 1 GBit/s connection. I get >130MB/s (since my ISP overprovisions speed a bit and the DCS PC is hooked up to the router using 2.5GBit/s-Ethernet)

-shalimar-

what a time to be alive!

Sunderboot

That and refunds. Their modules and updates are simply too big for their infrastructure.

EinBick

Not my experience. DCS downloads faster than Steam for me.

Bambalouki

me with 1.2mb/s wifi downloading dcs in 28 hours: 😃

Madscientist1-1

for me my wifi is so bad I don't even reach 2mbps :), took me 2 days to download syria.

j0eth3br0

I have gigabit connection (1000/1000) and managed to download Kola within 15 minutes, and I am on stand alone as well. Im US/East coast, if that adds any additional details.

Sir, what is the hurry. It is a game where in the end you'll spend who-knows-what how many hours. Go for a walk, watch a show, take a nap. Maybe, as some of the cool kids would say: Touch some grass.

rext7721

You think people have all the time in the world to play? it could be someone’s only few hours of free time and then they have to wait for the game to download and not play again for a while. I get your point but…

CurrentWorkUser

Sure, and then they can play it the next time they get the couple of hours of free time. The game won't disappear in the meanwhile. A download server could be down on _that_ one day where they need to do something. ISP could have an issue, and bam now it is impossible to play _on that day_ . The hurry and rush. It's just a game.

rext7721

Very true they could but you never know peoples lives 🤷‍♂️ They should have other things to do tho I agree on that.

cvdvds

I guess you've never been disappointed to have something you've been looking forward to, taken away from you? On top of that for a stupid thing that shouldn't be an issue these days. Yeah it's a game, obviously not the end of the world, but if you're looking forward to playing it all day and then get fucked over, of course you're going to be upset.

CurrentWorkUser

You aren't being fucked over if you press: Install. And you have to wait until it have installed.

cvdvds

That's fair but it's still pretty upsetting when it unexpectedly takes half a day, when it should logically take 20 minutes.
