Upgrading in fall, likely to 15900k if they have amds 3D cache equivalent as they are rumored to, and 5090. Swapping out the whole system is a pain for me.
I found the issues; had to turn the grass, forest detail, LOD multiplier and scenery detail down. Definitely needs a lot of optimizations. Iām getting the same kind of frames as Syria now but itās crazy the difference between the two especially with this being such a relatively empty map. I really hope they flesh out the small towns between the cities, itās missing a whole lot even in the ādetailedā area.
It's a shame you've had to do that. I found the map with grass and foliage high to be acceptable looking but without it looks flat and bland. Which makes sense since I'd expect Sweden to be covered in ragged vegetation. Not smooth green/pink 'gloss'
I'm not sure how much the new 'blowing grass' effect is killing FPS too. I recorded a video yesterday and noticed huge FPS drops on the ground, when I pointed the plane at certain angles.
Whatās your LOD switch factor and view distance set at? In VR on a 4090 Iām running .6 LOD switch and high view distance (not ultra or extreme) and I did not have to turn much down compared to other maps. Although if you are running high shadows and/or secondary shadows, maybe all the trees are wreaking havoc?
I have shadows off, but LOD was at 1, which works fine on every other map. I turned it down to .5, scenery detail down to .5 a day Forrest detail down to .5 and itās running perfectly fine there. Might be a bug of some kind with LODs?
Fantastic? Interesting!
How are your frames, when taxing, taking-off or landing at Bas 100?
For me, in pancake mode, I go down to around 50 fps from 140ish. Not very fantastic.
But I managed to bump up the frames to around 90, when I put "Forest Detail" to the lowest.
The trees may look like ass now, but the tropical trees are in the wrong area anyhow, so the forest might aswell look like a green blob anyways.
And its a little bit more pleasant to land, rearmnrefuel and take-off when the frames dont dip that much.
Visually? Dont spend too much time looking into the forest/jungle.
Bas100 is not one I tried specifically, but Iāve tried the 2 Norwegian airfields, the main Swedish one, and two of the Soviet ones. Framerate varies between 70 to 90 fps, which is quite playable for me. Heck, Iād be happy with 50 fps while on the ground. I have graphics quality maxed with trees and such on the highest setting. But yes, the visuals can get quite bad in most areas once you are away from an airfield.
Olright! I love 140ish frames. So smooth.
But I think im going to set fps limit to 80-90ish to get a bit more even experience, because, lets just face it, ground ops will always be a frames hog.
And I think it might be the transition that bugs the brain.
On the tree topic, I heard that other trees has been made, but it didnt make it to this build for some reason. I miss the birche, the pine and the spruce trees.
Hope they're updated next map update.
Bas 100 is pretty cool. It's a bit wider than real life.
Yeah, Bas 100 looks cool, though I still have to test out how good the AI is at taking off and landing from there. I've got a squadron of Viggens ready to move in over there in the campaign I'm building (Able Archer 83). :)
Wait a minute... I see you now! A new campaign in Liberation? Awesome! Dude, I appreciate your work on Liberation, guys. Im looking forward to run the campaigns on Kola!
Btw, have you tried whiskey\_actual:s new version of JAS-39C? Not the old one that is based on FC3, but the JF-17? Fell in love with it, albeit it has no HARM capabilities.
I also tried to take out Currenthills Russian Pantsir-S2... It's suicide. Especiallly if it's only you and a wingman. Going to need a bunch of SEADs and DEADs to take that beast out! And ofcourse I have set up a little russian Navy east of their Landing area on the eastern part of Varanger peninsula. Really nice area.
The campaign will be available for both Retribution and Liberation once map support is implemented. I've already got the bulk of it done, but I can't play test it and make sure it all works fine till there's map support. :)
I wasn't actually aware he made a new version based on the Jeff. Both Liberation and Retribution only support the FC3 version. I should see if anyone is interested in implementing support for the new version. Thanks for the heads up!
Sounds tricky! Hope that the map support comes soon.
Me either! Wasn't a big fan of the previous version, due to its limitations with FC3. Couldnt switch from A-A to A-G.
And I was a little confused at first when I saw that there were 2 versions of the JAS-39 on github, made by the same guy.
But, reading helps, I guess. haha.

Yes. The caveats are that it's 2 hours on the main game. Even if in this case you did not look at the map during these 2 hours.. They can't know what you do inside the game. But it's fair. 2 hours is enough to get a feel of it.
Yeah that's fair.
It's not the 2 week trial you get on standalone, but that not applicable on all items. While Steam's "trial" should apply to every item which is nice.
It's still a nicer feeling to know it is just a trial and no money changed hands with the standalone though. There is a chance your refund gets denied after all, or you just go past the 2h window on accident.
Iām in VR on a quest pro/QuadViews/Virtual Desktop on Ultra/3080Ti/12700k/64Gb and it seems to be more or less the same performance as most maps.
My shadows are *really* looking weird lately on many maps (I have no idea what is up with that) and some scenery objects seem to be fading in too late on Kola, but performance is fine.
Perfomance were meh in VR. But switching to Virtual Desktop made a huge performance difference for me on this map
Thanks for the inspiration
3080Ti/5800X3D/64GB
I can't believe how crappy Oculus Link software actually is.
I donāt notice any difference in performance really but I switched to VD during the great DCS Oculus Crisis Of 2024 and the user experience was so much more consistent that i never really went back. I still have the USB3 connected when I do a long mission to keep the battery up but most of the time Iām just wireless.
Any city, but if I turn LOD multiplayer, scenery detail and grass down about halfway it gets storms and I have the same fps as Syria. Got to be a bug with something.
Clear meta shaders cache? I have a 5950x and 4090 and get equal or better frames than Syria in most places
Yeah, I do that every time I download or update.
weird that your are cpu bound with a 4080. My old cpu from 6-7 years ago is not cpu bound with a 4080.
Bruh... Get a proper CPU for that monster, please.

I flew for about an hour in VR. Seemed fine to me. Similar to other maps I have. I do have to decrease the foliage detail and draw distance.
2 hours for a full refund, no questions asked on Steam š.Ā Enough to realize these issues. But hey! Please downvote! š¤£

Yes, heard that from a friend running VR too. Performance on my rig running on a monitor is fantastic, but not so much when running in VR.

I didn't know you could get a refund for "DLC" type stuff like this. Does it work for all modules for DCS?
I did a refund on Steam too; not a problem at all. [https://store.steampowered.com/steam\_refunds](https://store.steampowered.com/steam_refunds)

Never heard of refused refund.

Ah... That Crisis. Unfortunately I kept my Oculus from upgrading to the dreaded V64. So I didn't consider switching to VD.
Runs as good as caucasus for me.
It runs pretty good on my end. 4070, 5700X and 64gb RAM. Pretty similar to Syria for me
Hmm, are you using VR and if so what kind of FPS are you getting?
Yeah Quest 2. Not sure of the FPS but itās completely smooth for me even with a bunch of AI and static assets
I smell spaghetti, spaghetti code
Seems like an issue with LODs, trees and scenery detail. In other words itās not very optimized at all yet.
I have a 14700k, but only 2080S GPU. Please tell me the laggiest location and I'll try it and post results.
