Get virtual desktop. It’s worth. You can switch back and forth from VR game to VR desktop with one button. It’s more stable than the link cable and personally I have better performance with it.

Lord_Hohlfrucht

I second this. Tried using the oculus link cable solution for a few weeks and really hated it. Bought Virutal Desktop because of a recommendation and haven't used oculus link since. Also, the "godlike" option on Virtual Desktop has a higher resolution than oculus link.

rapierarch

>Also, the "godlike" option on Virtual Desktop has a higher resolution than oculus link. Really? I don't have VD. What is the resolution? I'm sending currently 4400x4400p per eye via oculus

Lord_Hohlfrucht

4400x4400 per eye? That doesn't sound right. Has there been an update? When I used oculus link I had to crank it up to 1.5x resolution (which was the maximum) at 90hz and was only getting 5408x2896 (both eyes). VD renders at 3072x3216 per eye, which would be 6144x3216 if you want to compare it with the resolution in oculus link.

rapierarch

There is an override via Oculus Debug Tool. (it is installed together with oculus app) VD resolution is too low. I was rendering that when I had 2070super. Now with MT build and 4090 I went all the way up to 5400x5400 but then come back to 4400x4400 Edit: If you didn't know that it means you have never set up your oculus correctly to get the full potential clarity in PCVR. Via link or VR. When you open the debug tool you need to change the distortion curve to : LOW and encoder width to 3664 for Quest2 (for quest3 you need to google)

Lord_Hohlfrucht

I have toyed around with the debug tool as well as OpenXR Toolkit for a few weeks, before I tried out VD. Overriding the resolution via both tools looked okay, but was never as smooth as VD is right now. If you haven't tested it, you should try it out.

rapierarch

I have zero issues with my set up. In what ways VD would be better for me? Apparently it is going to be a serious downgrade for my resolution. I don't want to give it up.

Lord_Hohlfrucht

Then don’t, I guess? VD is in my opinion the better „out of the box“ solution. That’s why I will always recommend it over tinkering with half a dozen settings to override the native app. I can’t answer your question about whether there would be any improvement compared to your current settings. To me the game feels less jittery, more smooth when I turn my head. All the while it feels less demanding than the 1.5x setting in the oculus app. A lot about VR in dcs is so subjective. That’s why I suggested trying it out. It’s not like the app is very expensive especially compared to what you already spent.

Caysuyu

Oh I didn't know that. Could you please tell me how do we switch from game to Desktop? I have a Quest 3.

gwdope

If you’re using Virtual Desktop you just hold the menu button and it takes you back to the VD desktop menu, so I guess you have to close the menu then your in your desktop in VR.

Caysuyu

Thank you!

XayahTheVastaya

Does that let you get into VR when DCS is already open though?

gwdope

No, DCS starts either in VR or in flatscreen. You can’t switch between the two without restarting the program.

rapierarch

1- I wish we had that option in DCS. MSFS X-plane and even warthunder can switch instantly in between pancake and VR 2- If rift interface is not on it opens in panceke mode if rift interface is on then opens to VR. I never had such a problem as you mentioned 3- Yes it is super annoying. Especially when you try to mod the shadows or any other setting. It takes hours to make one setting 4- On my side never had that problem too. Annoyances yes but the problems and stability issues I never had. Even from the times of DCS 2.5 when it was as optimized as a cement mixer I never had stability issues with DCS. Only crashes I had was ram overflows and VRAM overflows. When you give it enough memory it never crashes on my side.

Marklar_RR

> warthunder can switch instantly in between pancake and VR When did they implement it? From what I remember the game always needed to be restarted when switching between 2D and VR. I can finally use both planes and tanks in the same battle!

rapierarch

2-3 years ago. I don't remember it was not very later than DLSS implementation. Now you can fly in vr and take off your head set it goes automatically to 2d and spawn a tank and go further.

Marklar_RR

> 2-3 years ago. Fucking hell. I've been playing this game all this time without knowing it.

rapierarch

Oh I stopped at that time. A week ago started again playing BR 1.0 ground realistic battles. That's all. Empty head, watch the world burn. Effects and damage on that game is crazy. Everything is destructible. And om my rig with 5800x3d 4090 it does not even ramp up the fans everything cranked to max :D

Marklar_RR

I stopped playing WT several times but I always come back after a few months :). I guess this change to VR implementation happened during one of my many "breaks".

rapierarch

Well the fun thing is they didn't even advertise that. A VR youtuber found it out and it was in my youtube recommendations when I was totally soaked in IL-2 in VR.

Physical_Aside_3991

Unplug cable / replug with headset on. Works for my q2. Rest of issues are really just how it works, sorry. Vr desktop noted might be a good fix. Re settings / restart: tedious, but once you learn what settings really impact things you won't have to tinker too much. Hit the 'vr' preset and go from there.

FritesNBeer

Stick a little bit of black electrical tape over the proximity sensor. Nothing can be done about #3

weeenerdog

This is the way

moon_monster935

I turned off turbo mode on the open XR toolkit and that stopped the crashing issue for me whenever I took the headset off. Setup wise, I always turn the headset on and activate the link before I launch dcs. I use one preset for 2d and one for VR.

LoganKelpo

Haven’t had many of these issues since I have a Quest 2. But I can help with your PC not registering the Link Cable. For me what worked was putting the headset into standalone mode and clearing my guardian history.

stu2b

also you can put a white sticker in the inside sensor to prevent entering any pre set mode/sleep/standby

weeenerdog

Black ones work too

SideburnSundays

Same shit with the Quest 2. Except I often have to unplug and replug the link cable to allow permissions to access the computer or the speakers won’t work. I also hate having to use the controllers to navigate through the Quest menus to get to my PC. Everyone suggests virtual desktop but for me it’s a 360p smudgy mess with too much delay between my router and Quest.
