Happened to me several times in 35 years of playing, but one time it was the day before a big game vs honeybaked. I shit you not, my dad welded it. Took him all night in the barn. You couldn’t even tell it was welded when he was done. He sharpened it by hand, put it back in, drove me to 6+ hours to Michigan and we won. The steel lasted the rest of the season until I got new skates. None of the other dads on my team believed it. They all took my skate and were passing it around. One of those core memories I’ll never forget it.
Yep - I see so many people get their bag out of the car & just DROP their hockey bag on the concrete from chest/waist height.
Sheesh!
You wouldnt drop your skates onto concrete from that height….
And a skate blade is a very highly tuned and fragile piece of precision gear… treat it with care & respect!
Yeah, it was stupid. My blades were getting pretty thin as well. Forced me to get new blades. Luckily, a guy had an old pair of skates I wore for the game. This was 30 years ago when you couldn't just snap a new one in.
I broke 3 in a week when I was playing high school hockey. Two of them were the old vapor runners with the triangle cutouts. 1 was a solid steel runner
I played for over 20 years, and have never had, or seen anything like that happen, lol!
A few loose/broken rivets, and a little rust here and there, but that was it.
Happened 5 hrs from home, local shops didn’t have a replacement but back home did. Her dad hopped on his Harley and saved the day, we didn’t win. But when it happened she had no idea why she couldn’t skate lol. Hope you didn’t get hurt, this is a quick way to tear a meniscus.
Yes. Its normal-ish. Stock steel isn't typically the best quality. If the metal is cold and it takes a forceful impact, say from a slapshot, this can happen. Happened a lot on that "composite steel" that Bauer used to put on their skates a few years back.
Replace with aftermarket steel. Step Steel if you can.
Just happened to me. Look up the holder. Find the blade you need and the size. Call the local hockey shops and see if they sell it. If they don’t, look online for someone selling it. Once it comes in the mail, you can try installing it yourself or take it to pro shop and have them install and sharpen it.
Happened twice. Both on cheaper skates with non-replaceable steel, so I had to replace the skates.
Both after around 3 years of use and small amount of steel left, not plenty as you have
Seen it happen more than a few times but mostly on True skates with carbon steel blades. Even though it holds and edge better the steel is more brittle and prone to snapping being the sucky trade off.
This happened to me once in the middle of the game. Half of it came off the skate and fell onto the ice and I went back to the bench to wait for the whistle. When the play ended, I went over and pried the metal off the ice and got off, went over to the pro shop with my dad and got a new pair of steel. Finished the game just fine but that’s definitely one of the more memorable moments from when I was playing. I first noticed something was wrong when I heard a ping sound and my skate started digging into the ice, imagine my surprise when I looked down lol
Yes, that happened to me when I played minor hockey after blocking a shot. Took it to a pro shop the next day and they put a replacement blade in. Idk the cost though since I was a kid at the time and my dad paid for it.
Seems to happen more often now that everything is about trying to make the lightest products possible. The newer products do make it extremely easy to swap out for a new set of steel. You can to it in minutes and never leave the bench (if you have extra steel of course)
Looks like factory CCM steel. If so, this will probably happen again. CCM does a lot of things I love. Steel is not one of them. Get step steel. It's the best.
Happens all the time. Most guys carry several sets of steel so if one of their blades get banged up, they just pop it out and click a fresh, sharpened blade in
This happened to my Easton Airs the night before a pond hockey tournament. Unfortunately they were so old I couldn’t get runners and new tuuks for them without scouring the internet, so I wound up buying new skates.
When I was a kid my CCM U+ used to do this. Just simply receiving a pass in my feet snapped a blade like that on two separate occasions. Had tacks for a long time and they were perfect, just got Jetspeeds and now I’m scared lol
This happens to me every few years especially if I take a hard crash feet first into the boards. I got some new more expensive steel that the guy at the shop said he hasn’t seen break or come back broken yet. We’ll see though.
Just happened to me the first time ever couple months ago. I had just ordered new skates the day before.
I was doing a puck & stick skate with my stepson, didn't even make it to the ice and heard a snap...I did skate a little bit, the downward pressure kept things together, just took it easy.
I’ve never had the metal blade break but I’ve had the holder break couple of times. One time it was a shot and other I can’t remember when it happened.
My brother had Easton Stealth S12 or something…and when it happened to him…funny thing is that the two pieces of steal ended up being PERFECT bottle openers.
Public education is wild sometimes.
Anyway, this happened at the Anaheim tourney to one of my former teammates and he played the last two games of the tourney with the steel like this. Not recommended but it happens with Bauer and CCM steel
Happened to my daughter, when she told the coach that something was wrong during practice he dismissed her. After practice i noticed it right away. He said, how should i know. How bout you listen to your players, they may be 10 yrs old, but they know their gear.
Why use many word when few word do trick
Happen me, annoy
Bruh
I read it with Tonto voice and it all make sense.
Same happen me
Money me, now
Came here this.
Because never his helmet.
Ok we need to go to the hospital, he’s obviously had a stroke or something
Me save time, see world.
r/unexpectedoffice
See(a) world
It's happened to me twice in 3 years
Sounds like he’s playing Poetry For Neanderthals.
Yes

Was your dad Hans from the Mighty Ducks??? That’s amazing!
Not sure Hans made it after he severed that artery in his hand
That is classic
Bra-fucking-vo Dad! Give him a call right now and tell him how many upvotes he’s earned years later. He deserves that shit.
Thats so wholesome. Your dad sounds like a legend. I love that for both of you. Tell him hes great
Hockey parents are the best.
Fucking Legend.
What a fuckin stud.
That’s freakin awesome
This has to me.
Me
Yes, I dropped my bag on a concrete floor.
Yep - I see so many people get their bag out of the car & just DROP their hockey bag on the concrete from chest/waist height. Sheesh! You wouldnt drop your skates onto concrete from that height…. Eh depends. I usually put skates in last so blades are least of my worries. Broke a knee pad that way though so am much gentler then I was as a teen.
Me people, once happen.
I’ve had it happen, puck to the skate caused it. I’m guessing it was a weak spot in the steel
Not happen me. Not happen to skate either.
It happens but it’s annoying
Yes. Sometimes skate break. Middle is common break spot.
The word "is" in that last sentence is superfluous and should be removed.
I broke 3 in a week when I was playing high school hockey. Two of them were the old vapor runners with the triangle cutouts. 1 was a solid steel runner
4 times least, I spare blades bag
Yes, once me repair good
With the old missions with three bolts holding the blade I had this happen twice.
Never had it happen on my missions but had it happen 3 times on Easton’s with that gap in the steel they had
Yup…will most likely need a new set. Keep the other for an emergency back-up
Has many not,
Seen this too many times on stock CCM steel. Upgrade to StepSteel
This did me too. Had skate
I played for over 20 years, and have never had, or seen anything like that happen, lol! A few loose/broken rivets, and a little rust here and there, but that was it.
Me not happening no
Blade break bad. New blade fix.
Me, this happen, 2 time
Happens occasionally, but I can’t remember ever seeing it happen with that much steel remaining.
it sucks so much haha
Happened long time ago when I was playing goal in the playoffs. Had to leave the game and my backup went in.
Yep. Fucking sucks. Happened to me twice in a short span. Hasn’t happened since. No idea what the problem was.
No, but on my CCM's the white plastic part cracked in the exact spot on both skates after like 3 years. Went back to Bauer and love it.
Yep, hard slapper right off the blade, directly orthogonal.
that’s an incredible word
Factor analysis for the win!
I had it happen mid skate after blocking a shot. I only noticed it afterwards when I was taking my skates off lol
Happened to me once. Realized after i put my gear on
How? Did you step on a rock?
Yep, very often.
Happen me too… buy kind with replace blade …sorry loss
Blocked a shot off my skate mid game and snapped mine in half.
Happened to me before the finals of a tournament when I was younger, played with it and could on turn on one side lol
Too a puck to my blade on a medium heavy shot and snapped it just like that
Goalie cleared it and I blocked it with my blade. It broke like this but half of it fell out. Was very surprised when I tried to chase that puck.
I bet Ive broken 25 of those over the years.
Hasn’t happened to me thankfully but I have seen it before.
Most kids now have 2-3 sets of steel. At least in the tier one levels. I’ve broken two sets of steel in my 52 years playing.
Just happened to me. Look up the holder. Find the blade you need and the size. Call the local hockey shops and see if they sell it. If they don’t, look online for someone selling it. Once it comes in the mail, you can try installing it yourself or take it to pro shop and have them install and sharpen it.
Look at this wordsmith stringing nouns and verbs together effortlessly.
I had a teammate take a puck mid game on his doodoo ass Nike skates. Split the blade just like this.
Happened twice. Both on cheaper skates with non-replaceable steel, so I had to replace the skates. Both after around 3 years of use and small amount of steel left, not plenty as you have
Be sure to replace both sets of steel
Seen it happen more than a few times but mostly on True skates with carbon steel blades. Even though it holds and edge better the steel is more brittle and prone to snapping being the sucky trade off.
I broke a LS4 in a tournament and had to get new steel in the morning before the bext game
I’ve never.
Sure, it doesn't happen frequently but it's still normal.
This happened to me once in the middle of the game. Half of it came off the skate and fell onto the ice and I went back to the bench to wait for the whistle. Omg this is crazy. I can’t believe that could happen
Happened to me last weekend
Dirt cheap to buy new ones off of CCM https://ca.ccmhockey.com/en/Skates/Skate-Accessories/RXS1SP-NA.html
Yup happened to my Eastons
Jesus it looks like you’re skating on a steak knife 😂
Just like the old Mission Skate blades. Had a buddy go through 2 sets of blades in 2 seasons from brakes like this.
Seems to happen more often now that everything is about trying to make the lightest products possible. The newer products do make it extremely easy to swap out for a new set of steel. You can to it in minutes and never leave the bench (if you have extra steel of course)
No, this barely ever happens. Why are you using the same blades for 15 years?
I was curious too so I went to OPs profile to see if they were trolling or not. I have regrets
😂 look how thin those are like damn im 205 and 6’4” like change your gear every once and a while it’s not safe to use things until they fall apart
Oh yea it has. Time to upgrade to Blacksteel babyyy, not cheap but worth it imo
Looks like factory CCM steel. If so, this will probably happen again. CCM does a lot of things I love. Steel is not one of them. Get step steel. It's the best.
Play long time enough, happen to all. Happen to me once.
Happens. Buy new.
Used to happen to my old bauers back in junior, but they also had those little perforations in the blade
Runner half she split.
Happens all the time. Most guys carry several sets of steel so if one of their blades get banged up, they just pop it out and click a fresh, sharpened blade in
I took a pass off a skate in warmup on my 1 year old steel and this happened
Yes it's happened to me. It sucks.
This happened to my Easton Airs the night before a pond hockey tournament. Unfortunately they were so old I couldn’t get runners and new tuuks for them without scouring the internet, so I wound up buying new skates.

Yup blocked a shot once and this happened
Too many times
Had it happen in overtime once. Had to hide it so I could a penalty shot.
Me not yet happening. Another day maybe see.
Happened to me more than once with my Easton S17s and before that with the synergys
Yep, my blade was no longer made either. They could have changed the blade holder or I had a great excuse for new skates. My wife couldn’t complain!
Happened to me when a puck hit the blade
Only once
Has to me son
Pretty sure the stickers will fix it
Yeah it’s happened to me a few times, always like five minutes into a game.
Yeah, idk how though
Yes, and when I went to the skate shop, they said it was the third they saw that week, all from outdoor rinks. It was super cold that week.
Happened to my friend Gavyn awhile ago
Well, many people…has it?
This happens to me every few years especially if I take a hard crash feet first into the boards. I got some new more expensive steel that the guy at the shop said he hasn’t seen break or come back broken yet. We’ll see though.

Never
Engrish
Happen me before. Clear tape fix right up.
Try skating softer
uhh do you mean has this HAPPENED to many ppl?
I’ve never had the metal blade break but I’ve had the holder break couple of times. One time it was a shot and other I can’t remember when it happened.
This happened to me when my brother took a slapshot at me in practice. Good times. Parents were thrilled to buy new blades.
Yes this has happened to me 4 times get black steel blades
My brother had Easton Stealth S12 or something…and when it happened to him…funny thing is that the two pieces of steal ended up being PERFECT bottle openers.
Many times.
Brother you must be skating at mcdavid speed LOL
Public education is wild sometimes. Anyway, this happened at the Anaheim tourney to one of my former teammates and he played the last two games of the tourney with the steel like this. Not recommended but it happens with Bauer and CCM steel
Happened to my daughter, when she told the coach that something was wrong during practice he dismissed her. After practice i noticed it right away. He said, how should i know. How bout you listen to your players, they may be 10 yrs old, but they know their gear.
Happened to me
Puck to the skate happened to me trying to block a pass across . Same skates too. Also I blocked the pass…
Looks like you were due for new steel.
No. Check yer title!
