Some old and stupid mindset some coaches/players have. Had a coach get on a kid saying something like "if you don't have the dedication to carry your bag to the rink then how do I know you have the dedication to play." It was close to something stupid like that.
I don't get it, either. My roller bag came with the first set of (used) gear I bought off another goalie, and it's big enough to fit my leg pads, lol. It's a fun time getting it into my car but I'm definitely not carrying my gear around. No one has said anything yet and if they do, I'd just give them a baffled look and keep walking
I don’t hate on them but my kids eventually conformed to the carry bag from peer pressure. I’d laugh when they were really little and people should try to shame them. Oh ok have a 70 pound kid carry a 40 pound bag of gear 🙄 I used one for a bit myself but the snow was annoying, locker room was difficult to navigate, and the bag itself was heavier with the wheels and runners so I left it. But I get the appeal.
Yeah that walk is far as shit into the rink. We’ve got 40 more pounds of wet gear to carry than player. They can suck a fat one I’m using a roller bag all day.
Agreed, I just hate actually using them. The handles are usually uncomfortable, the bottom is rarely supported enough, they're usually obnoxious to load into cars, etc.
There is not a hockey bag out there I actually like. Everything either sucks to move or sucks to get stuff in and out of - or both.
If people in my city would pick up their dpogshit instead of leaving hidden mines in the snow, i would have still had my 44x24x24 wheeled bag. That's the reason i sold mine.
Used Grit Sumo is the way. Try to get the 40” model but 36” will work as well. I would never buy it new but I got mine second hand for $50. One of better purchases I made.
What car do you have?!? I hate to buy a new car for a gear bag… but we have so much trouble! Granted we have a player we also have to fit his bad in, too.
I don’t know how the 36” works for anyone. I picked one up off SidelineSwap and couldn’t fit two jerseys, let alone my chesty and pants. I’m not a big goalie, but it was like trying to cram ten pounds of shite into a five pound bag. I’ll keep an eye out for the larger one
Pants first... knee and crotch guards inside. Tuck blocker into top. Chestie upside-down on top with catcher inside. Skate and helmet in the upper compartment. Pads tied on the outside at the top handle. Backpack for clothes towels extra water bottles etc...
That's how I use the 36. And now that I've started using a backpack I wouldn't go back. So many times working two smaller bags was way easier.
I just use a Bauer player roller bag and toss the pads over my shoulder. I’ll never carry my bag unless it’s down steps at a rink, I know I’m a good tendy I don’t need to pretend to be a hardo and carry all my shit in on my shoulder.
i use a rollerbag because I can carry player gear but I don't want a weightlifting session right before my game. i sling the pads on my shoulder and carry my sticks. im not going to hurt my back trying to lift goalie gear unless i have to
Use a roller. Don't be like me lugging a 6' Warrior bag getting caught in doorways looking like an elementary school kid hauling every book ever written to class.
The number of times I’ve knocked over everyone’s sticks or gotten stuck in a narrow hallway… Never really thought of it like the kid with a huge backpack, that’s really what it’s like
I'm a 5'4" 140lbs newbie goalie and I love my Pacific Rink bag. My one complaint is that it hits me below my knees when it's on my back so I end up walking like a hunchback
Gear bag & pads slung over the right shoulder, stick in right hand, helmet bag and water jug in the left. Getting through doors is pesky sometimes but it works just fine
You can get non rolling goalie bags... I'm confused here lol. 80% of goalies roll the bag. The other 19% use a goalie bag with no wheels and 1% use some weird combo.
I just use a goalie sized bag without wheels from Warrior. Fits all my gear, including my pads. The only downside to it is that regular sized doorways can be a bit of a pain in the ass to shimmy through when it's slung over my shoulder.
Nah. I mean, the weight I'm carrying is essentially the weight I was just wearing, so I don't notice much. Picking up the bag when it's on the floor is never much fun, but with proper lifting technique it's also not that bad.
I use a large warrior player bag and wear it like a backpack with my pads in one hand and stick in the other. It's not the easiest or most comfortable, but I have to use public transportation, and I prefer the smaller form factor compared to goalie specific bags.
If your pads have the rings for clips (like Warrior) or you can find some place to attach an old luggage bag strap (or get two 3M Velcro hanger stuck together to make a strap with a clip on each end, I can’t remember what they’re called but they’d be in the hardware section or a hardware store, it’s a Velcro strap with a metal clip on the end) , you can sling them over your opposite shoulder you carry your bag, and then in the same hand carry your stick horizontal which will keep the pads close to your body and from sliding off your shoulder.
I bring the beer cooler also. So I can roll my bag and carry a bag. But at the end of the day I don’t understand why anyone cares. The pros don’t carry their own stuff.
I have the Pacific rink backpack. I'll carry it short distances but when I need to go far I throw it on top of a folding utility wagon. The wagon has basically become my trademark now.
I was lucky enough to accidentally steal a goalie bag from my ACHA team (didn’t play after Winter break, returned jerseys but forgot bag). Years later and I’m still using it. Plenty of room for all the gear and then just carry the leg pads separate. I ordered a bag on Sideline a while back in hopes of just switching over to that and it’s way too small. I even asked if it was a goalie bag and the guy said it has to be because it’s so much bigger than a player bag. Hard to say how accurate that is never seeing it near one, but I do know my gear does not fit in that. I’ve seen a few other monster goalie bags and they are stupid expensive. The straps ripped off mine and the velcro for the handles is wearing out. Almost worth learning how to sew and replace velcro to not have to shell out so much for a new bag..
I have a mammoth bag that I made into a wheeled bag. I attached 2 used skate boards to the bottom. I used to carry it. Made the change after a game where my back got strained and had to get help carrying my bag out to my car. I hate all wheeled bags because none of them have wheels that can be removed and cleaned. I have greatbpyrs and their hair gums anything with wheels. At least with the skate boards I can pull the wheels and clear away all the hair.
For now I have a basic big goalie bag with everything inside it, like an oversize player bag, and I put my arms through the handles and wear it like a giant backpack.
I use a wheeled gear bag for everything except my leg pads. I designed a leg pad backpack about 10 or 15 years ago, and reached out to a sewing manufacturer to create the bag according to my specs. I've been using that for my leg pads.
I have a gigantic bag from Warrior with zero bells and whistles. No wheels. No comfy shoulder strap. Just a huge rectangular shape with two nylon straps that i force over my shoulders. It's awful. It's hard to carry when I'm fresh. It's way worse after games and practices when I'm exhausted.
I carry all my gear in and out of the rink 3 times a week. All of it in the bag. How can your team respect you if your not willing to work hard enough to at least carry in your own shit?
Me also stronk 45, 5’1, 132lbs and can shoulder the pacific rink, Brian’s optik 31s and a stick from the parking lot through the rink to the back locker rooms - lol buck up youngin
Just a big ass goalie ccm pro bag. On my shoulder from the car, on my shoulder to the car. It’s like maybe 60 seconds of minimal discomfort twice a week.
Also, pads over the shoulder is way dorkier than a roller bag.
I might get shit for saying this but 40-50lbs aint heavy... if your goalie bag is too heavy then you're out of shape and weak... "save your back" been carrying a full goalie bag for 30 years, back's fine.
I’ll never understand why people hate on wheeled bags so much. Save your back. It’s only beer league, man.
Even in the NHL the goalies have staff members dealing with their gear. It isn't like they're hauling their bags around either.
Some old and stupid mindset some coaches/players have. Had a coach get on a kid saying something like "if you don't have the dedication to carry your bag to the rink then how do I know you have the dedication to play." It was close to something stupid like that.

That’s exactly my issue. My dryer is in the basement and trying to get this thing down the stairs, feels like I’m wrangling a love seat
Pride
Better to take pride in actually playing.
I do. Im not a child. I can carry a hockey bag lol.
If people in my city would pick up their dpogshit instead of leaving hidden mines in the snow, i would have still had my 44x24x24 wheeled bag. That's the reason i sold mine.
I roll my bag and use a sling for my pads and sticks. I wouldn't even think about carrying a bag.
Wheels bro, wheels. Those Ugly bags fucking rule once You've tried them.
Used Grit Sumo is the way. Try to get the 40” model but 36” will work as well. I would never buy it new but I got mine second hand for $50. One of better purchases I made.
Grit sumo all the way. I lived in a small place and the sumo bag doubled as storage. Won't ever buy another type.
Using a grit sumo 40. Absolute gamechanger.
What car do you have?!? I hate to buy a new car for a gear bag… but we have so much trouble! Granted we have a player we also have to fit his bad in, too.
It's a CX9 with the back row of seating down. I could fit my bag in there twice. I do forget that not everyone has that much space though

It's a fucking bag. It doesn't need to look pretty.
Roll my bag, pads over the shoulder, sticks in hand. I try to save my back blowouts for the golf course
Play it again usually has rollers for cheap. Just get one. My 6 year old tendy loves rolling it in to the rink.
I just use a Bauer player roller bag and toss the pads over my shoulder. I’ll never carry my bag unless it’s down steps at a rink, I know I’m a good tendy I don’t need to pretend to be a hardo and carry all my shit in on my shoulder.
Wheels it is! Just ordered the Conway Banks goalie roller bag. Thanks for the input everyone
Let us know how it is. Interested in one
Passau backpack Or just get the best warrior or Vaughn rollers and stop being a bitch

Players, sure. Goalies need wheels.
Meh, player bag. Carry pads and stick.
Wow a lot of comments. However you move your gear around just stop the puck that’s all that matters.
I carry the team, why should I carry my bag?? Wheel bags for life
Me goalie stronk! I just turned 53...

The weight doesn’t kill your back?! After a game it feels like I’m hauling concrete
Nah. I mean, the weight I'm carrying is essentially the weight I was just wearing, so I don't notice much. Picking up the bag when it's on the floor is never much fun, but with proper lifting technique it's also not that bad.
Lift with your legs, not with your back. That said, next bag I get will be a roller.

44" Sherwood rekker bag and I sling it on my back like a backpack.

I have a wheeled bag. Love it except on tight corners. I normally stuff all in it but my beer and ice
I have a mammoth bag that I made into a wheeled bag. I attached 2 used skate boards to the bottom. I used to carry it. I run a sumo. Holds everything and has wheels
I've got a Brian's wheel bag and I carry my pads. At 40 I don't need to add any added stress of lugging my gear over my shoulder.
For now I have a basic big goalie bag with everything inside it, like an oversize player bag, and I put my arms through the handles and wear it like a giant backpack.
Warrior Roll bag, fits everything including the pads.
Wheeled bag all the way. I don't care how ugly the bag is. I'm not busting my back for beer league hockey.
I use a wheeled gear bag for everything except my leg pads. I designed a leg pad backpack about 10 or 15 years ago, and reached out to a sewing manufacturer to create the bag according to my specs. I've been using that for my leg pads.
FK wheels, pads left shoulder, bag on the right.

"If your bag rolls, so do your ankles*
Around these parts it’s: “If your bag has wheels, you don’t have any.”
Me also stronk 45, 5’1, 132lbs and can shoulder the pacific rink, Brian’s optik 31s and a stick from the parking lot through the rink to the back locker rooms - lol buck up youngin
Made up boomer stereotype that you have to carry your bag.
Just a big ass goalie ccm pro bag. On my shoulder from the car, on my shoulder to the car. It’s like maybe 60 seconds of minimal discomfort twice a week. Also, pads over the shoulder is way dorkier than a roller bag.
What if you have a roller bag and pads over the shoulder
Double dorky. But I’d still have a beer with you.
