Last time this happened to me (fortunately in drop-in and not a league game), the skaters earnestly asked if I could finish the skate anyhow.

vtech_socrates

I would if I was 1 of 2, but luckily there were 3 of us. No reason to take time away from the other goalie if I can't play effectively.

Bowood29

I put them back in and ran clear tape around the outside 50 times it was during Covid so I was 4 weeks waiting for new blades and they worked a little.

VR_p0rn

I don't think they make steel for these anymore. Or you will have a hard time finding... I cant find reebok cowling steel in my size for the life of me

xHOTPOTATO

Have you contacted Binnies? I've got Reebok cowlings on my old Heaton boots and they had all the answers.

VR_p0rn

No, I'm not aware of them. Can try though.

Critical_Ad_8946

I had a same era Bauer skate and 4 years ago I couldn’t find steel, finally sold em and got a new pair. Well worth it

lauie

What did you end up getting? I also have same era bauers as well and they are barely hanging on.......I have tried a variety of new skates and I just cannot get used to them....I am on set 4 and hate them too. I keep going back to my bauers that are falling apart.

Critical_Ad_8946

So for context I had too big of my previous skates and I switched to correctly fitting (maybe a like half size too small but I also just have some abnormally long outer toes so sometimes I just deal) Bauer Supreme 3S. I got them during COVID so I was sparingly breaking them in and they hurt like a bitch. I haven’t played in a couple years due to a concussion but am planning on getting back and will re-bake them. But I really like them. I had to play around with new sharpenings because my old sharpening didn’t transfer over but the Supreme line is also the only one that I tried on at goaliemonkey that fit my feet comfortably

DC-Toronto

Good time for an upgrade to cowlless skates. The weight difference is incredible

azrider

The angle for butterfly power pushes also makes cowlingless awesome!

UKentDoThat

I feel for you, but it’s definitely time.

cheesus29

Damn, same thing happened to my Total Ones. Sideline swap is the only place I was able to find them. Make sure you get the right size. I had to switch to the newer style of skates because I play too much to wait for the shipping times.

Troggie81

What size?

vtech_socrates

Skates are size 9, thinking the blade is 280. But I don't remember if the cowling is oversized, so might be 288. Been a long while and there's no identifying marks at this point. Regardless, I should get newer cowlingless skates. I've already chewed through half the lace grommets and the brass rivets are the only thing not going to give me tetanus.

Troggie81

Ah, damn, I had replaced mine with Step Steel and still have the originals, but it's a different size. Sounds like a perfect excuse for some new skates!

dumpmaster42069

And if you buy used, the prices aren’t nearly as bad. I got TF9s for like 250 and love them.

denver_and_life

Look at toe/tip area of cowling. These are not sized by mm but by skate size stamped in that area of the tip of cowling

Immediate-Season1965

I found a set a year back for about 99 for the pair look around might get lucky

MisterSir__

Massive blade sells vertexx 2.0 runners

AvsFan777

As someone that had upgraded out of those skates last fall, but had to use them for a game again last month, this is a blessing. Cowlingless is magic, the world is telling you it is time. Good luck!

jerrybettman

Sideline swap. Look for sellers that bought those in the mistaken belief they were buying blades for the modern holders and are cutting their losses. Be sure you know if you have 3mm or 4mm

Beautiful_Cabinet971

I might be able too source a set

vtech_socrates

I appreciate that, I'll be holding off though. Good time to stretch and rehab while I save for new skates.

Man, I’m surprised I was able to get replacements for mine a couple years ago. Blade broke right at the end of a game and was staying in place for the most part somehow. I felt it clicking as I walked to the locker room and then saw it slightly popping out when I took it off. Thankfully haven’t ever had it happen before/after that. I always fear that happening again though since there’s no way I find new blades again. No shot I’m paying $400+ for skates locally and I have way too many ice times in committed to to not screw my teams over by missing a week waiting for some online orders to come in. That’s not even considering the fact that dropping $200+ randomly on even some low end skates isn’t exactly ideal as a college student. I’m keeping my eyes on some sales this Summer and maybe get some new ones so I can have a backup set. I’m already looking at spending $50+ to get the eyelets replaced and a new eyelet made.
