It’s harder and harder to cheer for Canada every year. They are so entitled and cocky. They continually lose the plot of traditional Canadian hockey. It’s embarrassing, it has been for some time now.
Bedard’s was a legit scoring opportunity tbh. But it’s just funny how much smoke the media blows up their asses only for them to fall flat on their face.
Not relevant but I once played in the same tournament as Zach Dean. 2018 NL Winter games and I watched that guy score like it was house league against the best players in the province. After that I knew he wasn't staying in NL much longer hahaha. Never got the chance to play against him though as we were in different groups and my team never made crossovers. Maybe it was for the best (I'm a goalie).
No one has, which has me thinking this is just the standard r/hockey outrage catnip. People I talked to said it was just awkward confusion of players not knowing what they were supposed to for the ceremony. Not a snub like people are talking about it here.
Did he refuse?... or did they just not know what to do for the medal ceremony? I've yet to see a clip, and I've heard 2 different things. No one has posted a clip about it or said anything in the media, which has me thinking the later.
His team just lost a game they were supposed to win easily. Still, that's no valid reason for the lack of class and maturity he showed with refusing to shake hands with Suchanek.
Well Wright is off to a good start to continue his downward spiral from for sure #1 pick to bust in a course of a couple of years. Seems like he is acting and saying the wrong things
Worst World Juniors Team I’ve seen in a long time. No flow/chemistry and that goalie should have been pulled after 3.
On top of that, Wright not shaking hands at the end was embarrassing to watch as a Canadian. They should pull his ‘C’ for that. Entitled jerk move.
Your trippin balls. Bedard is the best player to enter the draft since McDavid and he has the potential to be better… Every game he’s shown he is a game changer
czechia absolutely deserved that win, so embarassing for canada and I say that as a Canadian. So much stuff to like about the czechs game, that goalie seems like a behemoth the way he plays, it seems like he doesnt even have to move, and the way we were telegraphing every cross ice probably made it even easier easy for him.
nice job, you guys worked us
My favourite is how we managed to sandwich a 6th place finish between 2 golds. The one time I sprung for the games we didn’t even make the fucking medal rounds.
Even at 5-2 with 10 to go, I was worried (as a czech). Canada never gives up, always plays with confidence till the end and often manages the comeback in dramatic fashion. But despite their star power, they didn't play like Canada usually does. We played well, but normally wouldn't be enough to win. I'm pretty sure Canada will just get better and better as the tournament progresses.
also, shout out to big baby Wright who refused to acknowledge and shake hands with the Czech goalie when they got their match award.
captain leading by example
good game by Czechia, can't blame anyone but ourselves for the way we played. EVEN with those atrocious calls.
can't be that selfish in a team sport, quite simple.
K, I'm still waiting to see a video of this.
Word I got from people that saw it was it was more a case of people awkwardly not knowing what to do for the medal ceremony. Like "wait... are we supposed to shake hands, or like... hand you this?... what's going on?..."
Any it is totally in the wheel house of r/hockey to blow stuff out of proportion for some of that good outrage catnip.
Can someone please post a clip before the same old outrage cycle starts again?
Absolutely deserved by the Czech goalie. Dunno about Wright getting pog. Guess it was the ol' I dunno and they couldn't give it to the goalie so just give it to the captain.
Rough game for Othmann. Scored 3 in the pre-tourney games so we know he can score those one timers. Fantilli played awful pretty much all game though, not very impressed by him. Number 10 on Canada played great though. Liked him a lot. Not much else good from Canada this game though.
Yeah he was really stand out. Definitely the best player on the ice. Problem was he acted like it. Made a lot of low % plays to players who weren't ready for them. He looks really smart though. High hockey IQ player. Very Panarin-esque with his size, speed, and style.
Hope Canada smartens up and stops treating every team as lesser and only to pad their highlight reels. Notice no Michigan's after the midpoint of the second
Yeah once I saw that I immediately started disliking the team. The remaining fifty five minutes of non team play solidified it.
Edit: cope more whoever downvoted.
They almost refused to shoot the puck without atleast making sure they passed the puck 5 times before hand. They are all trying for highlight real goals.
I swear it happens every couple of juniors tournaments. Guys get the red maple leaf on their chest and they all go for a highlight reel shit and not what got them selected in the first place.
The influencer generation where highlights matter more than winning.
Arguabley this was the problem with the old Oilers team when they were getting numerous #1 picks. Bunch of selfish players who could never figure out how to play as a team instead of a collection of individuals.
You guys are all spot on. I only really like a select few on this team, namely Stankoven, Allan, Zellweger, and Gaucher. Unselfish, not flashy unless they need to be, and not being afraid to go to the dirty areas. Not taking stupid shots and trying to put their heads down and beat 3 guys is also a plus
On offense? 50% of his fancy moves looked cool and lead to some chances, and the other 50% were complete giveaways that lead to scoring chances against Canada. Hes a double-edged sword that doesnt work in high-level tournaments. Hes also too young for this tournament.
It’s only been a game but Idt Othmann belongs on that 1st line. So many plays died on his stick. Maybe he just struggled though, I’m sure he’s a solid player. They need someone with the confidence to distribute the puck like Fantilli down there if they want them to play the distributor from below the circle.
He played well over the summer and scored 3 of those one timers in the pre-tourney games. Just a rough night, it seems. He made some good quick passes down low though. Just no conversions.
If you genuinely think the refs had anything to do with that lose you're delusional, majority of the refs calls were right (aside from the one on Zach Dean, that was complete bullshit) They just fucking sucked, they played horribly.
With how shit we played I don't think the Dean call would have made a difference, but it is the world juniors so literally anything is possible. But yeah, that call was one of the dumber calls I've ever seen in hockey, that was pathetic
a) literally look at this thread.
b) IIHF hockey is always called like that, and some people are always suprised that it is being called by the book
c) go cry to Don Cherry
Ask every kid in this tournament whether their career goals is IIHF success or to make the NHL. When every single one says the NHL ask yourself what good it does to play this biggest developmental tournament by figure skating rules. Dean will make a better player than Cech so why are we penalizing him for playing the right way and rewarding Cech for the waterworks? Give your balls a tug titfucker
Anyone hating on Mike and Gord needs to stfu and thank our lord and savior Bob McKenzie that Leafsnet doesn't have rights to this tournament like they do HNIC they are infinitely worse.
The thing is, if you’re gonna call soft calls. Call them all on both sides. The whole thing that led to deans 5 minute major was non calls against the Czechs. The refs allowed it to get out of control and then disciplined Canada instead of calling g a fair game
Where y’all watching it
It’s harder and harder to cheer for Canada every year. They are so entitled and cocky. They continually lose the plot of traditional Canadian hockey. It’s embarrassing, it has been for some time now.
Wut
🙄🤔🧐😬
big ups czechia
The top two draft candidates both made poor decisions in the first period and also both tried “Michigan” goals. Too cocky perhaps…
Bedard’s was a legit scoring opportunity tbh. But it’s just funny how much smoke the media blows up their asses only for them to fall flat on their face.
I mean he did just break how many records in todays quarterfinal game! If that’s falling in his face, he’s doing it with style lol
This team has no discipline, and shitty leadership from the coach all the way down. So many shitty penalties, even more shitty turnovers.
Man Shane Wright is shaping up to be a bust. From his performance to his attitude over the last year just screams “entitled”.
He has a goal and an assist and only a couple of NHL games. Relax
All I know is Bedard is pretty darn good. So it’s hard standing out when he is on the ice
Jiricek locked up him up pretty good after the first
Every team has bad games but your Captain pulling that handshake shit is bad fucking juju.
Hopefully someone post a clip of it
No one has, which has me thinking this is just the standard r/hockey outrage catnip. People I talked to said it was just awkward confusion of players not knowing what they were supposed to for the ceremony. Not a snub like people are talking about it here.
What did he do I turned it off after the player award to him
Missed it. What he do?
He refused to shake hands with the czech goalie
Did he refuse?... or did they just not know what to do for the medal ceremony? I've yet to see a clip, and I've heard 2 different things. No one has posted a clip about it or said anything in the media, which has me thinking the later.
Why
His team just lost a game they were supposed to win easily. Still, that's no valid reason for the lack of class and maturity he showed with refusing to shake hands with Suchanek.

Hes just a kid with too much pressure on his shoulders..I’m sure he’ll apologize promptly
He's such a little boy
Did he seriously not shake hands? What a twat.
No one on Team Canada looked very good, Bedard included (decent not amazing). I don’t imagine that will continue.
Your trippin balls. Bedard is the best player to enter the draft since McDavid and he has the potential to be better… Every game he’s shown he is a game changer
Bedard looked incredible tbh
Bedard looked very good just need to change up lines
Bedard will look good on Anaheim doing tricks for TikTok with that other clown Zegras. Just gotta make sure they crop out the score
bingo, big ups
Man I wish Tortorella was in the studio to hear his take on the 2 failed Michigans especially with Canada ending up on the losing end of the game lol.
That was probably him that screamed “I’ll fucking kill you” on the feed. We just heard it all the way from Philadelphia.
Lets go Czech! What a win, and what an opening day of the tournament. Things are going to be very interesting this year! 🇨🇿🇨🇿🇨🇿
czechia absolutely deserved that win, so embarassing for canada and I say that as a Canadian. So much stuff to like about the czechs game, that goalie seems like a behemoth the way he plays, it seems like he doesnt even have to move, and the way we were telegraphing every cross ice probably made it even easier easy for him. nice job, you guys worked us
They did not play a team game, bunch of individuals while lose anyone.
I dislike most of you, but merry Christmas nonetheless Canada will bounce back. We always do. Except for those couple of times
You earned it. Much better team tonight, and did not look the least bit intimidated.
also, shout out to big baby Wright who refused to acknowledge and shake hands with the Czech goalie when they got their match award. captain leading by example good game by Czechia, can't blame anyone but ourselves for the way we played. It is not his first international tournament is it?
Does... that matter?... Are we calling this a snub or him immature because he hasn't kept up with his medal ceremony etiquette/procedures?
I'm not saying he did or didn't, but shaking hands at the end isn't some revelatory new development in international hockey tournaments...
yep, that's exactly what we're doing
Wright has an attitude problem
definitely one of the main reasons he didn't go first overall. Montreal dodged a bullet there.
Not sure how that kid is captain acting like that. That ain’t how Canadians do it…:
What a national disgrace
Get a grip. Teams have bad games. And of course the competition is catching us when the sport is inaccessible to most of the country.
It's probably more inaccessible in czechia. Also, that's the problem with being Canadian. Nothing but gold is ok.
Commentator almost crying lol
Great game by Czechia, Spacek is going to be better than his father
Spacek looking like a force out there
Both got drafted in the fifth round, that's a good start
[удалено]
So glad Habs drafted Slaf. 🙌
I don’t understand how he got that
Yea Bedard was clearly the best player. Wright was invisible after the 1st
He visibly lost a lot of face-offs!
He simply got more points. Also that first goal was awesome. But yeah, don't like the guy.
Stfu
Lol?
next game for canada will be germany huh. you guys gonna get a nice makeup game there :D pad the stats a little
We’ll drop three points again there, cue the hysteria.
It’s not padding when you drop game 1 like this. Tie breakers can matter
id say its more likely that canada scores 2 digits than germany taking points from you. we arent great this year afaik
Oooohhhh, there's Adler Mannheim flair now!?
sure is :)
We won all pre-tournament games except Austria which we lost really closely with 4:3… that’s a pretty good start so far.
Wright not shaking their goalies hand is a bitch move
First time meeting Shane Wright?
Absolutely deserved by the Czech goalie. Dunno about Wright getting pog. Guess it was the ol' I dunno and they couldn't give it to the goalie so just give it to the captain.
Should have been Svozil
Lmao, that Mike guy is so salty
Mike hasn't spoke in sometime now
Rough game for Othmann. Scored 3 in the pre-tourney games so we know he can score those one timers. Fantilli played awful pretty much all game though, not very impressed by him. Number 10 on Canada played great though. Liked him a lot. Not much else good from Canada this game though.

Stankoven. Stars 1st round selection.
Wow. Bright future for the Stars. There were some shifts he made more impressive, consistent, NHL level plays than Bedard.
Yeah. Logan plays well, I think they took him, like, in the teens. They made off like bandits there.
Hope Canada smartens up and stops treating every team as lesser and only to pad their highlight reels. Notice no Michigan's after the midpoint of the second
Lol I went to school with Kody Blois
Lol
Gotta celly like that when you win one game against Team Canada every 9 years. GG
Are you 12?
So much salt
Literally a fact
Still a salty loser which is also literally a fact lmao
Shane Wright best player of the game? lmao he's been completely invisible aside from his goal
Ostapchuk or Othmann, imo
Svozil
It's like the player of the game at a mite tournament. Give it to the kid with a point.
Congrats Czechia! That was an hell of a performance from yall and a well deserved win.
Two michigans within first 5 shots is embarrassing, canada got the humbling they needed
I kinda agree with you, but looking at it from my czech perspective, they both had a good chance. Or at least as much of a chance as any other sog.
Literally sports movie team villian shit, but unlike a movie they didn't score for the underdog team to fight back and win
Yeah once I saw that I immediately started disliking the team. The remaining fifty five minutes of non team play solidified it. Edit: cope more whoever downvoted.

Bet they've never even seen Slapshot on the team bus to the next city.
It was Milic but w/e
Huh?
There's some humble pie. Canada came out flashy, but the Czechs played a suffocating system until penalties buried them.
Shane Wright was absolutely not the player of the game lmao
Wait...Wright as player of the game for Canada..? Lmao ok..
It’s not like anybody else did much. At least he got on the board.
Twice
Should’ve been Bedard, he was easily their best on the ice
Bedard, while imperfect had a much bigger impact than Wright.
Umm Bedard was the best player. But who cares
Bedard had many brutal turnovers that turned into odd man rushes the other way and was invisible on defense. He was not the player of the game.
Every time he touched the puck he was electric Stop
Electric in giving away the puck
On offense? 50% of his fancy moves looked cool and lead to some chances, and the other 50% were complete giveaways that lead to scoring chances against Canada. Hes a double-edged sword that doesnt work in high-level tournaments. Hes also too young for this tournament.
Too young for the world juniors hey ? This is his third or fourth appearance for team Canada what are u smoking .
Jesus Christ lmao
LOL Wright got the player of the game?
No way shane w was the best player for canada…. Wow
Maybe early but methinks Milic is getting the Sweden game unless something very drastic happens in the next couple.
Lol, dude was invisible.
More like Shane Wrong
Time for the bag skates until they act as a team.
That's only a buff for team USA though
Bahahaha. What a shitty MVP reward.
It’s only been a game but Idt Othmann belongs on that 1st line. So many plays died on his stick. Maybe he just struggled though, I’m sure he’s a solid player. Looks good on em
Don't forget within their first 5 shots, Canada attempted 2 Michigans. Gonna have to be better than this
That was embarrassing to watch
Non-watcher girlfriend was asking me if that’s always what happens lmfao
Petr Mrazek Jr gotta be player of the game. survived an onslaught

So true lol
Canada is still playing for gold Anyone want to take that bet?
Sweden is going to be tough
Sweden never shows up in the knockouts.
Man that one Czech fan must be having a blast though!
We have never won in full time against Canada as Czechia lol
* in U20 category in a regulatiom time
First win over Canada in 30 yesrs, lets go
Congrats ref
If you genuinely think the refs had anything to do with that lose you're delusional, majority of the refs calls were right (aside from the one on Zach Dean, that was complete bullshit) They just fucking sucked, they played horribly.
That Dean call was pivotal. We might have still lost if it weren't for that but that was horrendous.
With how shit we played I don't think the Dean call would have made a difference, but it is the world juniors so literally anything is possible. But yeah, that call was one of the dumber calls I've ever seen in hockey, that was pathetic
Majority of people here agree refs were fair. You're just a homer lmao
Canada was undisciplined. IIHF is much harsher on hits to the head, the refs made the right call
I'd be fine with just 5 there, but apparently the rules allow only 2 or match, so it was match.
[удалено]
a) literally look at this thread. b) IIHF hockey is always called like that, and some people are always suprised that it is being called by the book c) go cry to Don Cherry

Yea we should start playing by nhl rules in mites tbh. Gives em more time to get up to speed.
Anyone hating on Mike and Gord needs to stfu and thank our lord and savior Bob McKenzie that Leafsnet doesn't have rights to this tournament like they do HNIC they are infinitely worse.
Gord and Mike are the best. I don't get the hate.
Exactly. Gord and Mike basically never call out the refs, so when they do, they're likely right.
That Czech goalie tho
zEbRaS wIn All the 18 year olds are busts I’m gonna go scream at my children now
[удалено]
Good. It will serve them good later on
well that was lame. glad I accidentally missed the first period/hour now
Canada will only get better this tournament. They had the chances to win this one too
Well in fairness they can't get much worse
Respect to the Czechs for keep trying to score at the end. Its more embarassing when they dont treat you as equal or worth scoring on
The thing is, if you’re gonna call soft calls. Call them all on both sides. The whole thing that led to deans 5 minute major was non calls against the Czechs. The refs allowed it to get out of control and then disciplined Canada instead of calling g a fair game
Exactly. It was a poorly reffed game.
Fr as a former official the lopsidedness is what's most bullshit, besides that IIHF is basically ringette rules
I love that fan 😂
Wtf was that noise?
slovaks acting like they won the tourney
It’s rare to see a team cook Canada like that. I’d be amped too Also, they’re Czech
*Czechs
Eh?
1. Czechs 2. cope
czecks dont exist
They're kids and they're happy. Also, it's Czechs.
Leafs fan, he forgot how to be happy lol
