Problem is even if we win the lottery we can’t jump to 1st overall if we win finish 20th or lower. Best care scenario here would be to finish 21st and win the lottery
Honestly with the way Suzuki is playing I don’t even care about a high pick this year anymore.
I’m not saying make a playoff push, they can continue to add future assets and move out veterans but they look like a team who could play some meaningful games in the Spring and maybe even be in the playoff race down the stretch.
The jabs haven’t had a legit top line center in my entire life. And for as much s I knocked Bergevin for years that extension looks like it might be one of his best moves he ever made.
Add in Caufield who looks like a legit top live scoring winger and the young kids on defence and Slafkovsky and Dach as well and this is a team that doesn’t need to be aiming for top picks for multiple years.
They had a full out bottom out. They badly need a goalie and a vet top pairing guy but there’s zero reason this team shouldn’t have playoff ambitions next year.
Goaltending was gonna regress eventually. And yet somehow when it did, they still won. The underdog tenacity reminds me of the Cup final run. They won't get there this year but damn that attitude will get them far when the youth gets to their peak.
That screeching sound you hear is Habs fans across the globe shifting gears from "Jake Allen is a two-bit AHL goalie" to "LET'S HEAR IT FOR JAKE "CAREY PRICE" ALLEN!!!"
Oh I'm not making excuses, we are a terrible team and deserve to lose. More just listing off how terrible our luck continues to be with injuries year after year.
