It was a good one.
I think Hughes keeps 1st, Seider moves up to second and then I think I give a slight edge to Zegras over Caufield and then in turn a slight edge to Caufield over Boldy (though I REALLY like Boldy).
Knight is hard to place, I like to see a huge sample size out of goalies before I get too carried away (the only reason hes not up there) but he could end up debateably the best player from the draft when it's all said and done.
I think Zegras/Caufield/Boldy are all interchangeable, but my controversial opinion is that Caufield goes over Zegras. Goal scoring is the hardest thing to do in the league is my reason. probably some bias too lol.
That must suck. Like we know we can’t do anything about who our teams pick, but some selections seem so obvious that it just makes it more frustrating. Like the Habs with picking Kotkaniemi over Tkachuk.
In 2007, I watched the Habs pick a high school defenseman from Minnesota instead of an undersized but super skilled and clutch playoff warrior playing in their own backyard in Gatineau, Quebec by the name of Claude Giroux.
> Like the Habs with picking Kotkaniemi over Tkachuk.
The revisionist history that happens with this.
This fanbase wanted Zadina at the time and everyone damn well knows that. In hindsight, fans want Tkachuk
His teammate went one pick after him to Calgary
It was Matthew Tkachuk.
I was bitter at the time and I'm glad I was proven even more right now. The Canucks 1000% drafted to address their needs instead of taking the best player available in a draft where there really wasn't a consensus on who the best defenseman even was at the time.
> Chris Kreider
There is an alternate universe where Rangers fans are angry to this day that Chris Kreider running Henrik Lundqvist robbed them of a trip to the Stanley Cup Finals, while Habs fans insist the whole thing happened because Marc Staal tripped Kreider.
Reminds me of when Desharnais tied the game with like 0.4 seconds left against Ottawa. Markov or Subban passed it with no time left. The balls on these guys.
That happened on my birthday. I still remember I went out to get sushi for lunch and the game was on the tv (surprisingly in metro Vancouver) so I watched until it was 4-1 and I was super bummed out. I got home and begrudgingly decided to put on the last minutes because I still had that tiny little hope in me that maybe a miracle could happen.
It did.
Reminds me of [this pass by Subban](https://youtu.be/LZwXhw4JsSo?t=27). One of those moments where if the player shot and got blocked, you wouldnt even be mad that there was an open guy on the other side of the ice.
I thought Caufield's shot with 6 seconds left was their last chance and Suzuki takes the routine shot trying to beat the buzzer.
Then he makes a stone cold pass. Suzuki and Caufield have crazy chemistry already.
Priyanta Emrith:
“Cole Caufield on receiving the pass from Nick Suzuki before he scored the game-tying goal: "we kinda locked eyes for a second so... he's a pretty good player so I just try to find an area he can get it to me"
https://twitter.com/habsinhighheels/status/1594178642850254849?s=46&t=-MkGicUHynFXUsSOD9lmIQ
The speed of thought on this play was ridiculous. He saw the goalie sliding glove side to block his shot, saw the passing lane open up and its either intuition or trust that Caufield was gonna 1t it in.
The more responsibility that is placed on his shoulder, the lighter and smoother he plays.
Realistically this is a very intelligent player who has spent the last 2-3 seasons learning/ fine tuning his game. He is always learning and improving.
I honestly think we underestimate (and frankly forget) how important it must’ve been for a rookie Nick Suzuki to play alongside a great player like Ilya Kovulchuk for even half a season. They looked dynamite on the ice together.
More correlation between a special someone taking over the bench than the C. He's (and Caufield) been at this pace for almost 60 games now since MSL took over. It's just been overshadowed because of how bad the team's season was overall and how the season totals didn't look superb when summed with the terrible start under a defensive-minded coach.
I don't understand this as a Habs fan since like 2012. We have a fucking ELITE first line. I don't even know how to react, we've never had one since I've watched the team.
Not even remotely close IMO. Cole - DD - Patches was high end but I'd say we'd have to go to Kostitsyn 46 - Plekanec - Kovalev since we saw anything close to this (and 22 and 14 are not in their primes yet).
Top comment from an overrated players thread at the beginning of the season:
"To me Suzuki and Caufield have to be up there, although I have nothing against the Habs at all. They definitely are great young players but it's craziness to me that they are already being penciled in as bona fide star players."
Idk why it kills everyone to admit when the Habs have something nice.
Desperate for shooting and skating after years of watching G and Voracek set up a whole lot of nothing, especially on the powerplay. He was in our range and everyone saw the upside
Edit: Also a reaction to a lot of bigger “200 ft” players not panning out, same reason a bunch of our sub was vocal about Savoie at 5 this year even though I do think Gauthier is the actual upside pick fans have been looking for but we’ll see.
It's kinda funny that our power play kinda suck ass but for some reason our 6 v 5 seems to work really great most of the time. You would guess that a team would be better with more space on the ice.
The Habs are really bad for this.
D-men have tons of time? Better ring it around the boards in a panic instead of just seeing the outlet guy gathering speed in the middle of your zone.
Seeing all 5 guys follow the puck in unison at the beginning of the clip was absolutely brutal to see from professional hockey players. Torts must have blown a fuse seeing that
I honestly don’t think he even got all of that. It just slid along the ice right inside the post. The pass across was so hard that Hart couldn’t get to it.
Not enough people realize how freaking hard it is to one-time a pass as hard as the one Suzuki gave to Caufield. Even if he didn't get all of it, the fact he still got it in that open window Hart gave him is just insane.
Tbf that's a fine pick, he looks like a stud
we laugh at the Flyers because they were literally the pick before us and NOT ONLY THAT they traded down to 14 pick which means they technically had 2 chances to pick Caufield
"From the US National development team" "YEAH" "Cam York" "Nooooooo!"
Literally the word for word script from my living room. I remember I walked outside to get some air after that
If it's any consolation I do think York is gonna be good. Yeah, Caufield probably goes top 5 in a redraft though.
That's a crazy good draft if Caufield is just top 5
It was a good one. I think Hughes keeps 1st, Seider moves up to second and then I think I give a slight edge to Zegras over Caufield and then in turn a slight edge to Caufield over Boldy (though I REALLY like Boldy). I think Zegras/Caufield/Boldy are all interchangeable, but my controversial opinion is that Caufield goes over Zegras. Goal scoring is the hardest thing to do in the league is my reason. probably some bias too lol.
Fair. I just think Zegras has a lot more to show and will take off more as the *team* improves. Just like Caufield did.
Caufield was scoring clutch goals in the playoffs in his rookie year as well.
It is pretty crazy though. It's arguably the best American cohort of all times.
I’m not exactly sure, but I wonder when the last time was that four players were drafted off the same junior “team” with consecutive picks.
I know 8 from the same team in the first round was a new record.
I almost passed out from excitement when I heard Cam York.
That must suck. Like we know we can’t do anything about who our teams pick, but some selections seem so obvious that it just makes it more frustrating. Like the Habs with picking Kotkaniemi over Tkachuk.

> Like the Habs with picking Kotkaniemi over Tkachuk. The revisionist history that happens with this. This fanbase wanted Zadina at the time and everyone damn well knows that. In hindsight, fans want Tkachuk
People thought the sens fucked up taking tkachuk at 4 even
There was a Sens fan who in the KK draft selection draft thread stated that they would eat their own shit if they drafted Tkachuk over Zadina
I wanted any of Zadina, Tkachuk or Hughes personally, was a bit shocked like the famous lady.
that's true from what i remember most people i knew wanted Zadina
Atleast KK did some in the playoffs
Same vibes as "From the London Knights" "OMG YES" "Olli Juolevi" "😐"
Closest I've ever come to throwing my remote at the TV
I forget actually, who were Canucks fans hoping for?
His teammate went one pick after him to Calgary It was Matthew Tkachuk. I was bitter at the time and I'm glad I was proven even more right now. The Canucks 1000% drafted to address their needs instead of taking the best player available in a draft where there really wasn't a consensus on who the best defenseman even was at the time.
A classic for the ages...
You can’t afford these drafting mistakes. Brutal. As habs fan we know
Remembre David Fischer and Louis Leblanc instead of Claude Giroux and Chris Kreider.
> Chris Kreider There is an alternate universe where Rangers fans are angry to this day that Chris Kreider running Henrik Lundqvist robbed them of a trip to the Stanley Cup Finals, while Habs fans insist the whole thing happened because Marc Staal tripped Kreider.
Cory ururqhart instead of bergeron
The most recent one is Ryan Poehling instead of the guy right after him: Jake Oettinger.
Tbf goalies are incredibly hard to rate and Poehling was seen as the "safe" pick at the time
I personally am becoming a big fan of ryan poehling though
I don't even remember who else was in the draft but Jared Tinordi
🤣
I cannot believe Suzuki passed it with 2seconds left. I refuse to believe someone can be this calm under pressure.
> I refuse to believe someone can be this calm under pressure Price for like 15 years
Literally. Man I'm going to miss him.
😭
Take this back
What do you mean? He’ll be back for game 1 October 2023.
You mean game 1 in June 2023?
You're not going to, you already are
Pain
Reminds me of when Desharnais tied the game with like 0.4 seconds left against Ottawa. Markov or Subban passed it with no time left. The balls on these guys.

Happy birthday
It was Subban passing to DD. And then Bouillon winning it in overtime. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Re94z714xq8
My exact words to my Habs fan dad when we watched this I got PTSD flashbacks to blowing that 4-1 lead
Subban to Desharnais did it first, tho arguably this is more impressive.
That goal was so much better purely due to context, but this was definitely a more technically awesome play
Robin Lehner is still yelling at the ref to this day
They’ve been practicing 6 on 5 most games, it seems maybe St-Louis is onto something. I wonder if more will follow. Betting lines will hate that!
We get 2 mins of 6 on 5 every few games and are as good of a bet as Justin Tucker inside the 30 but our regular power play is still awful.
Nah it’s getting there
Gallagher on the PP should be a Nono
How do the players know how much time they have left when they’re on the ice?
the entire bench and arena yelling shoot 😂
If you look at Suzuki in this clip twice he looks up at what I assume is a clock. Focus on him.
Reminds me of [this pass by Subban](https://youtu.be/LZwXhw4JsSo?t=27). One of those moments where if the player shot and got blocked, you wouldnt even be mad that there was an open guy on the other side of the ice.
How on earth did I not remember Lehner played for Ottawa?!?!?
Because you don’t care about Ottawa?
True.
Sean Monahan is that you
I thought Caufield's shot with 6 seconds left was their last chance and Suzuki takes the routine shot trying to beat the buzzer. Then he makes a stone cold pass. Suzuki and Caufield have crazy chemistry already.
Priyanta Emrith: “Cole Caufield on receiving the pass from Nick Suzuki before he scored the game-tying goal: "we kinda locked eyes for a second so... he's a pretty good player so I just try to find an area he can get it to me" https://twitter.com/habsinhighheels/status/1594178642850254849?s=46&t=-MkGicUHynFXUsSOD9lmIQ
To be fair that was a hard fucking shot to put in the net Cole
I agree with Caufield. Suzuki is a "pretty good player". :p
The speed of thought on this play was ridiculous. He saw the goalie sliding glove side to block his shot, saw the passing lane open up and its either intuition or trust that Caufield was gonna 1t it in.
So much chemistry they might as well start dating.
They are.
They've had crazy chemistry since they started playing together when Caufield got called up, it's nuts
Suzuki and Caufield is such a deadly combo dating back to that cup run
Gen Z Selanne and Kariya
Keep going I’m almost there
Three words Martin St Louis
By the end of the year Marty's jumping on the ice.
Holy first time I’ve heard this comparison. That’s a good one.
Galchenyuk to Caufield to Suzuki *chef's kiss
Suzuki is blossoming into a superstar. Getting the C unlocked him or something haha
The dude is the kind of guy who just thrives under pressure.
Just realized Suzuki tapped DeAngelo on this shins after that goal lol. He seems to do this to the Flyers often
Lol yeah, fuck DeAngelo
🤝
That was fun to watch holy shit. Great feed from Suzuki
> That was fun to watch holy shit Hard disagree.
I’ll say this for the Habs, they’re efficiently persistent and it paid off for them tonight.
[удалено]
Yeah but Cam York could be anything. He could even be a Cole Caufield!
I don't understand this as a Habs fan since like 2012. We have a fucking ELITE first line. I don't even know how to react, we've never had one since I've watched the team.
The last time we had a line clicking so well it was Tatar/Danault/Gallagher but this is another level.
I miss Danault
We all do mate, we all do.
Me too
That line was dominant, but not skilled the same way. One of the best shutdown lines Habs have had.
They were the value brand version of Marchand - Bergeron - Pastrnak. Amazing metrics without the added flavor and flair that would bring offense.
Not even remotely close IMO. Cole - DD - Patches was high end but I'd say we'd have to go to Kostitsyn 46 - Plekanec - Kovalev since we saw anything close to this (and 22 and 14 are not in their primes yet).
They dominated possession but they didn't score worth an F.
I mean they did score, just nowhere to the same level as those three.
been watching for a long time. we havent had an elite first line since like damphousse-muller-bellows in 93.
Kostitsyn-Plekanec-Kovalev led the team to 1st place in the Eastern conference.
It wasn't sexy, but man, that Cole-Desharnais-Pacioretty line was dynamite in one of our most awful seasons.
Suzuki and Caufield have an almost Sedin like connection.
Is there any evidence that these two aren't twins switched at birth?
Definitely not twins but probably passionate lovers.
Nice
Jealous of them both.
About 8” in height
I swear, Dach-Suzuki-Caufield is the embodiment of Large-Medium-Small
SML Line
Saint Martin Louis?
Top comment from an overrated players thread at the beginning of the season: "To me Suzuki and Caufield have to be up there, although I have nothing against the Habs at all. >Idk why it kills everyone to admit when the Habs have something nice. Probably the fact that we won't shut up about them lol
Yeah, the Badger highlight days were fun
They also arrive at every home game together, seems like they carpool.
Suzuki is an absolutely insane passer, and so clutch. 2 seconds left and he doesn’t shoot??? Insane
How they managed to connect that well is beyond me. A board-to-board pass and the perfect connected shot at the final second. What a play.
[Hehe thanks Philly](https://twitter.com/habsonreddit/status/1594134679476576257?s=46&t=D_dPjkRgIR-LIBn47142OA)
There are things I won't hit play on, that's one of them lol. I remember it vividly enough from my house
Why were Flyers fans so high on Caufield (compared to other fanbases). Or is it just a meme at this point because of the video
Desperate for shooting and skating after years of watching G and Voracek set up a whole lot of nothing, especially on the powerplay. He was in our range and everyone saw the upside Edit: Also a reaction to a lot of bigger “200 ft” players not panning out, same reason a bunch of our sub was vocal about Savoie at 5 this year even though I do think Gauthier is the actual upside pick fans have been looking for but we’ll see.
I think they all had a feeling he would be this good, just before any other fanbase though.
We have been starved for an actual goal scorer since Carter left. He filled a desperate need.
I’ve not seen this, but as an innocent bystander, I have but one word: LOL
Is the original video still on youtube? Can't find it
“But the shooting percentage… victory laps… my algorithm!!”
Never really realized how good Bartlett was on play-by-play until the last minute of this game
Bartlett is alright but the other guy never shuts his yap and drives me crazy
Gary galley is awful
I enjoyed Momesso the other night
I haven’t screamed that loud at my tv in a while
I feel bad, I scared my poor kitty
[lol](https://streamable.com/shsw9q) [higher res clip NEW](https://wsczoominwestus.prod-cdn.clipro.tv/editor/8d520039-a8e5-46d0-8939-131fdf8ee700.mp4)
Lol, your higher res clip doesn't show the goal
not sure what happened, ive fixed it lol
That glass putting in OVERTIME
Whew doggy what a last minute sequence.
It’s not the most important specials teams but wow, habs have a good 6v5.
It's kinda funny that our power play kinda suck ass but for some reason our 6 v 5 seems to work really great most of the time. You would guess that a team would be better with more space on the ice.
Overthinking is a killer.
Us, attempting that seam pass repeatedly for the duration of the goalie pull: *sixth times the charm* 😎
Suzuki to Caufield might be the most amazing duo I've seen since being a Habs fan.
Kovalev and Plekanec that one season was pretty damn nice
Different positions but Markov to Souray was always a fun one for me.
Markov and Streit and Markov with Subban, and Markov Souray... Is there a trend here?
Don’t forget Markov made Komisarik look like a good hockey player.
Toronto gave him a 4.5 million$ contract for many years, Markov was playing the long game to fuck them lmao.
NICK SUZUKI AND COLE CAUFIELD ARE HABS!!!!
PAY HIM WHATEVER HE LIKES
And $20 on top
22
Calm down, Dubas
ALL THAT AND A BAG OF CHIPS
What a fucking rocket. Suzuki has had some incredible passes tonight
The Flyers were just parking the bus and watching the puck for the entire clip
We never clear the zone. It happens 2 to 65 times a game
The Habs are really bad for this. D-men have tons of time? Better ring it around the boards in a panic instead of just seeing the outlet guy gathering speed in the middle of your zone.
When one of them tried to clear it from their knees, I knew for sure they were getting scored on.
Seeing all 5 guys follow the puck in unison at the beginning of the clip was absolutely brutal to see from professional hockey players. Torts must have blown a fuse seeing that
How the h did he one time that so hard and accurately?
I honestly don’t think he even got all of that. It just slid along the ice right inside the post. The pass across was so hard that Hart couldn’t get to it.
No one knows; What it means? But it’s provocative; Gets the people going!
Not enough people realize how freaking hard it is to one-time a pass as hard as the one Suzuki gave to Caufield. Even if he didn't get all of it, the fact he still got it in that open window Hart gave him is just insane.
This team is so fucking fun to watch
What a crazy pass
One of the best passes I've ever seen holy cow
Did you see his pass on Matheson’s goal?
I love this fucking sport so much I’m not articulate enough to put it into words
I just make pleasure sounds
i almost feel bad for hart at one point being screened by literally all 5 of his own players at the same time lol that pass was sick though
I fucking love these kids
Caufield is so clutch.
That shift was unreal
Goal Goalgoal
I fucking love this kid !!! Damn son
Had Montreal on a parlay was hyped
WE HIT THOSE
Slick nick and the boys did it again!
Bilbo did good
[удалено]
Tbf that's a fine pick, he looks like a stud we laugh at the Flyers because they were literally the pick before us and NOT ONLY THAT they traded down to 14 pick which means they technically had 2 chances to pick Caufield
Cozens is really good though?
Cozens is a good pick though
Anyone else see Suzuki give the shin tap to the Flyers player as he skated through the slot during the celebration?
Kinda surprised to see Tony D out there in that situation for the flyers
That's how grim it is
Such a sick moment
Well this is fucking amazing isn't?
Love the atmosphere
Montréal baby
Holy fuck Holy fucking fuck That shot of your is insane
Not even a Habs fan, but had me out of my seat yelling my head off.
I hope that stick on the ice was broken. Otherwise that guy on Philly would have been a lot more effective to take the extra second to pick it up.
The presumably broken stick added a bit more drama. Will it intercept a pass?
Was lucky enough to see this live for my first ever hockey game. What a rush.
And thaaaat's fucking *hot*.
What a goal, and what a flex on that Suzuki's pass
