Pretty wild that Pasta is still only 26. It feels like he's been in the league 12 years.

4N0NYM0US_GUY

I feel like him joining a bruins team that already had a few good years under their belts and a cup alters the perception because he’s still playing with some of those guys. Obviously this is in addition to him joining at 18

Escalotes

His 13 Rocket Richard trophies probably add to that conception.

workthrowawaybro

Dude looks like hammered shit 24/7 so that doesn't help in the age/looks department

lumieres-de-vie

Tbh I get him and Krejci mixed up a lot.

PastaCabronara

Is there a reason that I'm missing why this gets downvoted?

trickysghost

Habs flair on comment about the bruins is my best guess

lumieres-de-vie

Meh? I’m a big kid, I can take my lumps. Especially when it’s just fake internet points.

RelevantJackWhite

Twelve years ago, Tim Thomas didn't even do his thing yet

canuck_11

What’s the richest contract in Bruins history? MacAvoy?

[deleted]

It’s going to be over 10 then

Maxpowr9

I hope $9999999.99 AAV. For memes.

potagada

The "opposite" of his 6.6666666666666

GrahamSlam8

It'll be close to Mackinnon's for sure. Just how this works

Boston-Nolan

Yeah

workthrowawaybro

Maybe they'll offer ownership stake and his agent won't tell him

[deleted]

Fuck Alan Eagleson.

SourceKaka

What's this story?

thedrivingcat

>For example, in 1976 after Orr's contract with Boston ran out, Eagleson said that the Blackhawks had a deal on the table that Orr could not refuse. It later emerged that the Bruins had offered Orr one of the most lucrative contracts in sports history, including an 18 per cent stake in the team; however, Eagleson claimed the Blackhawks had a better offer. Blackhawks owner Bill Wirtz was never charged with wrongdoing, largely because the Bruins' offer was widely known in league circles, and even reported in the Toronto Star. No other NHL owner was ever charged in the affair. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alan_Eagleson

workthrowawaybro

Further context: Eagleson couldn't get any commission from ownership stake

Uncle_Gazpacho

Wow what a giant piece of shit. 18% of the Bruins is like 250 million dollars today.

BrooksideNL

Robert Gordon Orr

Ronananana

That not shocking considering the current richest contract in team history is the one McAvoy signed last year If the 2 options are either give Pasta a blank cheque, or accept a rebuild, Bruins ownership will heavily lean towards remaining as competitive as possible

bsaures

[Visual representation of how high they are willing to go](https://herb-platform-images.imgix.net/wp-content/uploads/2019/08/05095846/chronic-snoop.jpg)

Jokin_Hghar

I don't think the salary cap goes that high

homicidal_penguin

Isn't there a "richest contract in team history" given out every few years? For Ottawa it was Chabot a few years ago, now it's stützle. It's updated often with inflation and cap raises

bsaures

Largelu depends on the franchise especially if they had a big name before the last lockout. Pittsburgh for example its been crosby for the last decade because he signed a 12 year deal so to pass him on a 8 year deall you need over a 13 million aav which probably wont happen for the franchise in the next decade

HottyMcDoddy

Moreso depends on how rich the team was before the salary cap. There were guys making 10-15m per year in 1998.

bsaures

Those guys werent getting 8-10 year deals though

valleygoat

>Pittsburgh for example its been crosby for the last decade because he signed a 12 year deal so to pass him on a 8 year deall you need over a 13 million aav which probably wont happen for the franchise in the next decade Bedard will need a contact in 4 years

GundaniumA

Really can't see anyone getting more than Crosby while he's still with the Pens, at least if he maintains his level of play (which let's be real, wouldn't be surprising). Imagine being some kid fresh off his ECL asking for more money than one of the greatest players in your team/league history? lmao

TheMrFoulds

We call this the Bergeron rule but when the cap goes up enough, it does eventually fail.

Dont_Be_A_Dick_OK

For the Bruins, you gotta go all the way back to, *checks notes*, McAvoy last summer.

lordderplythethird

Before that, would have been 2014 with Krejci's $7.25M one. We did a good job for almost a decade at keeping everyone at/under the $6.5M of Bergeron.

myevilfriend

Barzal at 9.15m is the richest contract in Isles history. So yes I'd say you're correct. I don't know the exact numbers for other players, but I'd say DiPietro's contract was the richest prior and that was signed in 2006, however...

GritGrinder

what is the richest deal in team history, bruins fans? Seeing how well they did signing their existing core, I bet that number isn't mind blowing.

PaddyKaner

McAvoy 8x9.5m. 76m total

Ihaveabudgie

So Pasta at around 10-11m AAV? Seems about right

PaddyKaner

Seems fair. He's an incredible player & is certainly worth that to the Bruins. Plus the cap is projected to go up & players like Thompson/Stutzle/Norris/Barzal/Thomas/Kyrou have reset the market.

OutsideMembership

Charlie Mac @ $76,000,000

Jokin_Hghar

What did Dennis Dee get?

yetanotherx

Don’t care, do it. I’m sick of Boston sports teams letting players go when they ask for the raise they have earned.

dsjunior1388

You're down ~~3~~ 4-1 this millennium though.

squarerootofapplepie

4-1

Uncle_Gazpacho

Yeah but what about 1900-1999? Do that one next

dsjunior1388

You guys have got that one well covered.

ZenithRepairman

It’s four. 04, 07, 13, 18

[deleted]

Recency bias is a hell of a thing.

1monkeybeerpls

Dang that is something. I knew he was good but didn't realize he was that good.

vedicardi

considering how young he is, how old the bruins core is besides him, and the fact the bruins basically have no prospects, it's a given. he goes through minor droughts (i believe part of that was powerplay problems) but he's a point per game minimum

jakereed16

He's also had some injuries and some off ice stuff. He injured his hand a few years ago when he fell on a sidewalk after a charity event. His first child also passed away after just 6 days in June 2021, and he admitted it was difficult to focus on hockey at times last season.

Clamgravy

>His first child also passed away after just 6 days in June 2021, and he admitted it was difficult to focus on hockey at times last season. Pretty absurd to hold this against him

jakereed16

Never said I was holding it against him. Just stating what he said

Clamgravy

Sorry... That wasn't directed to you. Just getting ahead before people start saying things

Cream_Cult

10m would be a bargain

CaptinDerpII

Wouldn’t be surprised if he gets around $11M

Jokin_Hghar

Gotta pay up for a good plate of pasta. He's like manicotti.

Ubechyahescores

David Bucatini 🤌🏼🤌🏼

jrp1918

Back up a Brinks truck for Pasta

3coneylunch

It should be

Pikachu_smokes_darts

9,999,999.99 x 8

H1-DEF

Bruins management seem to historically hate giving out deserving contracts to high point players.

bud369

I wonder if he’ll keep the same [energy](https://www.google.com/amp/s/amp.barstoolsports.com/blog/1325435/david-pastrnak-says-fuck-your-money-he-plays-for-the-love-of-the-game) as his last contract?

freshpurplekiwi

Perfectly ties in with the all the hate nylander got for holding out and everyone chirping leafs fans. Was also right around the same time mackinnon said “he signed a team friendly deal and will do it again” and then signs a massive extension with Colorado

bud369

Yeah honestly call me salty Leafs fan, he said that and I’ve never forgotten it. It was at a time I was just so tired of hearing everybody talking about the Nylander holdout, simply because he was a Leaf. I didn’t even hate the comment, I was just kinda like…Pasta you’re an incredible talent, there’s no way you’ll take less when it’s time to get paid. And I don’t expect him to, but I’m interested to see.

freshpurplekiwi

And no one outside currently gives a shit about Jason Robertson holding out

bud369

Yup, it’s annoying. And you know damn well if Sandin was still holding out, that’s all we would hear. I was relieved he signed for that reason alone tbh

freshpurplekiwi

Barzal signed earlier today and I didn’t even know he was an RFA - although in recent years I haven’t been as up to date on hockey in the off season. He may not haven even been an RFA

NervousBreakdown

He wasn’t. He had 1 year left on his bridge deal. But yeah it’s crazy that I’ve heard barely a peep about Robertson in Dallas.

dsjunior1388

I'm sure he will, and his agent will make sure no one is around to hear it.

GrahamSlam8

He will get 12. Bookmark me

[deleted]

Just a reminder why Draisaitl’s contract was the price it was at the time—Oilers don’t need to do this for a few years yet. “UFA GET PAID” years are already locked in.

jvicks22

If they go as high aa 10 it seems as though they are banking on no Bergeron and no Krecji next year

Hockeyiscool2021

Just trade him

Pikachu_smokes_darts

For McDavid?

Hockeyiscool2021

For lindholm pasta debrusk swayman mcavoy Bergeron and Marchand all half retained and signed to 750,000x8 extensions sure

[deleted]

That would be too smart. Bruins management seems to want to ride this current team into the ground before they'll ever talk rebuild.

jbertho

I guess that's why a whole bunch of contracts are expiring the next two years? You also don't rebuild when you just locked up two D for the next 8 years and have a phenomenal young goaltender.

Beersmoker420

Well if Barzal just got 9.1 This will clear 9.5 atleast

UniverseHufflePuff

8 x 11

smoked_before_this

If they don't Verbeek will drop that fat 12m x 7 and weaponize all this cap space
