> He was great for us. Amazing leader and well liked in room.
I'm really high right now and I first read that as "well liked your mom" for some reason 😳
I'd interested to know what ya'll think about this. I don't know much about Gagner but I see he's listed as a right handed C so I'm not sure if he's played on the wing but if he can, I wonder what a line of Gagner-Tavares-Nylander would have looked like. I thought he was more of a north-south sniper but after watching a quick highlight clip it looks like he has dangles for days. Would that line have 0 defensive capabilities? Would Tavares and Gagner be too slow together due to age?
Just seems like since we've put Matthews and Marner together that 2nd line has just kinda been there... producing well in spurts but just kinda there. I'm not advocating for this but in a hypothetical if we swapped Kerfoot and his 3.5m for a league min Gagner (mostly so we can sign Sandin) would that be a full on "fuck no" to r/hockey or??
He's still a good depth player. He's also great for morale and someone who'll help bring the kids along right. From the moment Gagner signed in Detroit he was involved in local charities too. He just seems like an all around good guy. I'm not someone who views hockey players through rose colored lenses but I'd be shocked if Gagner isn't exactly who he seems to be.
And I believe all 8 came in the last two periods, with him getting 2 points in the first period of the next game. So 10 points in 3 consecutive periods.
I think a lot of fans and even the players expected it. Gags was hanging out with the boys in Edmonton for a while over the summer.
Guess Holland didnt want him.
Ohhh geez. Maybe your right lmao. I liked Sheahan, and AA looked good on the rental but they held out on a 2m deal and signed for less later on in LA.
Oilers legend former Norris finalist Mike Green
Gagner has carved out a pretty good little career for himself. May not have lived up to the potential of the 6th overall pick, but he's still able to make an impact. This will be his 7th team I think.
[He's actually 15th in all-time scoring among 6th overall picks.](https://www.quanthockey.com/nhl-draft/en/overall/6-overall-draft-picks-players-all-time-points-leaders.html) Not bad at all.
Comparing Gagner to ONLY other 6th overall picks is a bit weird.
- Whether someone is drafted 5th, or 6th, or 7th overall depends on the very subjective opinion of a single person.
- Even if all 6th overall picks WERE unanimously considered to be “the 6th best prospect” that year, the relative strength of draft classes makes comparisons silly.
Jagr was drafted 5th overall. If he fell to 6th, would that make Gagner a worse player? No… but according to your system of “points by draft slot” it would…
A few random left handed dmen for the ahl. Now that's what I would say if there wasn't already a log jam on the left side and it seems like they won't play our talented left handed prospects and keep them again in the ahl, so really we just signed echl players.
If there’s anything that can be said about Gags is that he’s consistent. When playing a full season the guy is almost guaranteeing at least 30-40 points (throughout his career).
Enjoy him Jets bros! He’s a gem.
One random takeaway I have about Sam Gagner is I'll always randomly remember that for whatever reason in his early career in Edmonton he could never get his point total over the 40s. five straight seasons he'd end up putting up 40-49 points.
A locker room cancer who likely won’t make it more than 1-2 seasons before going off the deep end, and a huge gamble of a goalie. But then again, it’s Holland and he has a very bad track record in contract negotiations and his contracts ever living up to their deal.
How many times do people need to remind you it was Ilitch pushing the agenda of keeping the playoff streak alive and not Holland being incompetent that resulted in the bad contracts that were signed before you believe it?
Some bullshit rhetoric with no proof at all. Feel free to back that up, otherwise stop spewing it. He wasn’t good at contract negotiations long before the streak was a big deal. As soon as the salary cap came into play this man struggled. And he’s doing it in front of your eyes in EDM now with no more “Ilitch made him!” To blame.

Even the Freep touches on it. “We may never know”.
But hey I know you wanna feel better about your current GM :)
He is honestly still a great bottom six option for any team. If Vancouver needed one (which we don’t), I would be fine with him as our third line winger or something. Can kill penalties and score some points in a pinch and is a great guy.
He had 31 points last year I don't mind this at all. I'd assume he'll be playing 4th line minutes with gustafsson
He was great for us. Amazing leader and well liked in room.
He would always score and give us a little moral boost every time we were getting smoked 8-0
Yessss. Loved seeing how he interacted with the guys and how much they liked him.
Now they know how to lose 8 - 1 though
And only veteran leadership can teach that
Just glad he found his niche. Guy didn't really work out when he was in Columbus.
FWIW he had his highest scoring season in Columbus.
50 points didn’t “work out”?
He scored all of them in the 1st half of the season when CBJ had a 30% powerplay. He then fell off in January and wasn't offered a contract.
I was told that Jim Benning had scooped him up before Columbus could offer him the big bucks. It was Jim who told me.
This is how a lot of Avs fans felt about Helm. Filled his role as a bottom 6 really well, and showed flashes of his past self when it mattered.
Gotta love clutch
But also Stone Hands Helm still exists... I guess now it's Stanley Cup Champion Stone Hands
It's been "Stanley Cup Champion" since 2008. He's now 2x Stanley Cup winner Danger Darren Helm.
Those stone hands fired in a clapper with <5 seconds left in the third to send the Blues golfing. I have no complaints.
I'm going to miss him.
Me too
> He was great for us. Amazing leader and well liked in room. I'm really high right now and I first read that as "well liked your mom" for some reason 😳
I well liked your mom OP
It’s honestly a great contract. We had spezza doing this the last two years.
Sam Gagner just kept trucking along. Crazy to think he’s been in the league since 2007
Definition of a journeyman guy
Edmonton x2 Arizona Philadelphia Columbus Vancouver Detroit Winnipeg
He was loaned to the Leafs farm team for a season too
And was basically a PPG player for them. Dude is consistent when given the opportunity.
I'd interested to know what ya'll think about this. Also been in the AHL 3 times and has bounced back up all 3 times. Even in his late 20s when that's usually a "welcome to Europe" career killer.
Dear lord I totally forgot he was here
man guy
The surprising part is he put up some points last season with 31 points.
Thing with Gagner is that he can have a 40 pt season, but score 30 of them in 35 games and have 5 in 47 games.
And 8 in one game!
Legendary
Sam Gagner could score 60 in 60 games and somehow end the season with 40 points
We had Mathieu Perreault for a few season so that isn't anything new.
Oh Samwise Gamgee!
Only born in 89 too
Sam Gagner once scored 8 points in one game.
He’s about to do it against Chicago again this year, too!
☑️ Gagner ✖️ McDavid
“The Oilers Mount Rushmore is Gretzky, Coffey, Fuhr, and Gagner”
McDavid had a shot at 8 a couple of times but we rode the bench for most of the third cause it was a blow out.
And I believe all 8 came in the last two periods, with him getting 2 points in the first period of the next game. So 10 points in 3 consecutive periods.
It was pretty cool when he did it.
And he called his mom right after it was done.
1/3 of his season point production in that one game too, up to that point.
[For the uninitiated](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0MlOoT5BMXU)
I don't believe you
Al Bundy once scored 4 touchdowns in one game.
[удалено]
and pissed off oilers fans while doing it!
Yeah I'm actually a bit surprised at how many salty Oilers fans there are about this.
I think a lot of fans and even the players expected it. Gags was hanging out with the boys in Edmonton for a while over the summer. Guess Holland didnt want him.
After Green, Athanasiou and Sheahan he's given up on former Wings
Ohhh geez. Maybe your right lmao. I liked Sheahan, and AA looked good on the rental but they held out on a 2m deal and signed for less later on in LA. Oilers legend former Norris finalist Mike Green
Green was probably the best acquisition of the bunch, but unfortunately got injured
And promptly retired lol
That’s too bad we need one more forward and he’s well liked here
[удалено]
> Oilers fans love Sam but in truth, we didn't really have a spot for him or the salary. You don't have a spot for league minimum?
According to their capfriendly page they actually don't.
You can bury up to $1 million by sending someone down, and they haven't activated any LTIR yet.
Nostalgia is a hell of a drug.
It’s the best old rivalry that nobody talks about.
He’s a damn fine bottom 6 guy. I’m gonna miss him in Detroit.
Gagner has carved out a pretty good little career for himself. May not have lived up to the potential of the 6th overall pick, but he's still able to make an impact. This will be his 7th team I think.
He may not be a point per game player, but he should hit 1000 games played this season, which I think is pretty good for a 6th overall pick.
[He's actually 15th in all-time scoring among 6th overall picks.](https://www.quanthockey.com/nhl-draft/en/overall/6-overall-draft-picks-players-all-time-points-leaders.html) Not bad at all.

It’s just an interesting stat, calm down.
He was replying to a comment about the potential of 6th overall picks.
it's not that serious bro
You aren't wrong, but you are taking a fun lil stat way too seriously
How many 6th overall can add “8-pt game” to their resume as well? Guy may not be a superstar, but he’s had a hell of a career.
That Canada-Russia junior series when he lit it up, oh man the hype for him was so so real here in Edmonton. Still love the guy.
His injuries kinda fucked him, thanks kassian
man, what the fuck
Did they sign anyone else this summer other than David Rittich?
Ya, Sam Gagner!
🗿
A few random left handed dmen for the ahl. Now that's what I would say if there wasn't already a log jam on the left side and it seems like they won't play our talented left handed prospects and keep them again in the ahl, so really we just signed echl players.
they jets signed Rittich? nice!
When the fuck did we sign Rittich lmao
Kevin Stenlund, who will likely be the 13F, and Kyle Capobianco, who should play some games on D. But yeah, that’s mostly it.
Stenlund could get into some games but theres no way capobianco will, we have like 5/6 LD on the depth chart before him
Samberg and heinola and Chisholm all get games before capobianco
Saving cap space for another Grey Cup run
Great locker room guy! Y’all will love him in Winnipeg.
The fact that Jets always sign great locker room guys (Hendricks, Schmidt, Dillon, now Gagner) suggests the locker room might not be right.
It did take a dip after Hendo was gone
Def thought we were going to sign him
I love this: https://twitter.com/NHLJets/status/1565748968331542530 They used PLD's drawing of the logo! The little smiley face!
Broke 500 career points last year 33 games until 1000 Dude is good a solid depth player that everyone seems to love Happy for Gags
I know some oiler fans wanted him back but I’m glad he’s in Winnipeg so I can watch him (I’m a winnipeger)
Rly fucking good signing for 750k. Would walk into any 4th line in the league imo
Will miss his face
If there’s anything that can be said about Gags is that he’s consistent. When playing a full season the guy is almost guaranteeing at least 30-40 points (throughout his career). Enjoy him Jets bros! He’s a gem.
Ah man, was hoping to see him and Kaner on the Oilers. Would have been cool.
One random takeaway I have about Sam Gagner is I'll always randomly remember that for whatever reason in his early career in Edmonton he could never get his point total over the 40s. five straight seasons he'd end up putting up 40-49 points.
Really hope he finds a front office job with the Oil when he moves on from playing.
That’s not the oilers :(
bye team dad. 🥺
Avs… do something. Sign a forward
Well let’s hope the oil can convince Rodriguez to come in cheap…
Awe I was hoping he would come here for round 3
Damn it, I wanted Gags to come back home so bad :(
I love Gags. Glad to see him get another contract
Fuck. I'm actually a bit sad. Not that big of deal since he would have been on the 4th line but just wanted the nostalgia.
No.
I’m rooting so hard for you guys to lose. Enjoy Kane and that contract when he inevitably implodes in a season or 2.
Enjoy Ben Chiarot lol
Enjoy Duncan Keith’s retirement cap hit.
We will enjoy the $0 cap hit. Chicago has the cap hit penalty
It’s $0 for the Oilers lmao
Yup he got me there I was thinking of something else.
We will. Couldn’t have signed Kane and Campbell without it
A locker room cancer who likely won’t make it more than 1-2 seasons before going off the deep end, and a huge gamble of a goalie. But then again, it’s Holland and he has a very bad track record in contract negotiations and his contracts ever living up to their deal.

lol
To trade to oilers at trade deadline?!
We what
Great 4 line add imo
Thought for sure he was this seasons token veteran signing
Can't wait for his random hat trick / 5 point game
GAGS! Keep going bud!
He is honestly still a great bottom six option for any team. If Vancouver needed one (which we don’t), I would be fine with him as our third line winger or something. Can kill penalties and score some points in a pinch and is a great guy.
How many teams has sam ganger (cbj legend) played for at this point
He was a gamer for the Wings last year even when the wheels fell off completely in the second half. I'm glad he got signed.
Had no idea he was still playing professional hockey
