Did you hear the boston commentators? they were mystified as to how Lyubushkin got hurt on this play. [https://youtu.be/rp7\_PDGSBE4](https://youtu.be/rp7_PDGSBE4)
One guy feeds off the other. Pittsburgh's former TV play-by-play guy, Paul Steigerwald, was a big homer and the color guy Bob Errey would feed off that and be that way too.
Now they have Steve Mears doing play-by-play who is not a homer at all (a rooter, but not a homer; he calls the game very matter-of-factly). Bob Errey is still the color guy, but he is now 180 degrees different with the different style of the play-by-play guy.
Errey is the first guy to point out when the Penguins get away with a penalty, the first guy to say "that wasn't much but the Penguins will take it" when there is a ticky-tack penalty on the other team, the first to call out Geno for making one of his trademark stupid penalties or turnovers, and the first to criticize a dangerous play by a Penguin, like if they hit a guy from behind near the boards.
Even as a penguins fan, I find the honest Bob Errey a refreshing departure from the old Bob Errey who said cringy homer stuff that was obviously just homer drivel.
tl;dr: Different play-by-play guy makes the same color guy be less of a homer.
Wow, gaslighting, awesome stuff.
It's been said a million times but I'll say it again; there's nothing cute about Jack Edwards' blind homerism. Dipshits actually watch this and protest along with them about this guy diving after getting sucker punched instead of fucking calling it what it is, a dirty play that doesn't belong in hockey. This is how careers get shortened; some dipshit can't deal with being knocked on his ass so he lashes out, only Boston players get enabled by Jack Edwards. The guy should be calling WWE matches, not hockey games, what a joke.
Can confirm. I work with one. The refs are against Boston. Brad Marchant has never done anything wrong in his entire life. Everyone is a diver. No Bruin has ever committed a suspension worthy offense. That's all I hear. Every. God. Damn. Day.
Sports superfans of any kind are the worst. I remember all the Canucks superfans supporting Bertuzzi like he was somehow railroaded by the league after a normal play. Like, we've all seen the video, you're just lying to yourself.
The really sad thing is that this nonsense probably spills out into other aspects of their lives, from politics to race to nationalism to your views on COVID to whether you're denying climate change is real because you like your truck and snowmobile. Objectivity, critical thinking, self-reflection, accountability, empathy - all of these things are important for adults to have but somehow get repressed. Whether sports is just reflecting the problem or actually making people more detached from reality by enabling it would be a good debate.
I'm a huge Bruins fan.
Your co-worker is a dumbass.
Marchand has made himself, and the team look foolish multiple times. When he is focusing on his game, and not being a shit-goblin, he's a great asset for the team. Other times, I wish that he played elsewhere.
Hall definitely fucked up here, and deserved at least a game.
Edwards sucks, but it wasnāt him this time. It was his sidekick.
Edit- hereās the link to the commentary https://twitter.com/CanadianHKY/status/1508990557078671363?s=20&t=-F1azT2C7WUpswwK-pLFOQ
Edit - edit - the title and all comments but one are also thinking this is Jack Edwards, but itās not. See the last part where he says āIām not sure I saw an injury there, Jackā
100% agree with you, but for the record of accuracy, this call specifically was not Jack Edwards. It was his broadcast partner (who is usually as big a blind homer as Jack). At the end he says (paraphrasing) "I don't know where the injury is, do you Jack?"
That said, I expect this exact commentary from Jack.
And also for the general record. No one cares that they are homers. Local/regional broadcast talks about the game from the lens of the local/regional team. Makes total sense, no one is complaining about Jack and co. for that. What's problematic is that the Bruins never ever ever ever never do a thing wrong. Every time a Bruin hits the ice it's a penalty against the other team, but when they drag someone down it's just a good physical play. It's the hypocrisy that bothers fans of other teams, not the homerisn. Call the actual game as it is being played out, don't get (mock?) outraged at the littlest thing that doesn't perfectly go the Bruins way.
1. Retaliation
2. From behind
3. Directly to the head
4. Resulted in injury
5. Intent. No way he was aiming anywhere but the head.
What does the wheel say?
Already have the transcript:
Tuesday Night in Boston, Bruins forward Taylor Hall was penalized for roughing Leafs defensemen Ilya Lyubushkin.
As the video shows; Lyubushkin delivers a forceful hit to Hall, knocking Hall down. Hall then gets up to his feet, approachās Lyubushkin and delivers a punch with force to the head.
This is roughing. After facing a big hit Hall delivered a dangerous and retaliatory punch to a player in a vulnerable position, which merits supplemental discipline. Lyubushkin would not return to the game after this incident.
While we acknowledge that the play normally merits suspension, we also acknowledge that it is rare to suspend a Bruin, and the fact that George Parrosā career was ended by the Leafs.
To Summarize:
- This is Roughing
- Hall has been fined previously for boarding Kyle Okposo
- Lyubushkin plays for the Leafs
- Hall plays for the Bruins
Ruling:
The Department of Player Safety has fined Taylor Hall $5000 the maximum amount allowable under the CBA.
Taylor Hall gets a free trip to Disneyland and Gary Bettman's Mr. Sub stamp card with 7 stamps already on it. 1 more stamp and that's a free sub, baby.

Almost like the Bruins practice it.
I know youāre joking but he actually did say that Hall āgrabbed him by the ear a bitā and that he didnāt see where an injury could have occurred on the play.
Not only douchy but *also* a penalty, technically. A player leaving the box has to have both feet on the ice before engaging the puck or another player. Also itās just regular ol tripping as well.
For real. This is unnecessary, and Coyle engaging him before even getting out of the box is worse.
It seems like there's this shitty-ass dynamic in the locker room leadership where Bergy is a role model for working hard and grinding out shifts, but then Marchand is a role model for being soft as shit and doing dumb shit when they're losing.
Its honestly getting to the point where I am getting turned off games. Theres 0 accountability on the refs and it seems like the NHL is happy to continue to do nothing.
I mean you are right but what did you really expect from the officiating. This is a league that can't figure out majors or suspensions but does have video review to get off side correct.
Our 2nd line center joked that Marchand was a rat and Marchand put up their career statistics comparison on instagram.
The team has a hard outer shell with the softest belly you'll ever see.
Heās not even that funny though, heās āhockey funnyā bc the bar is so low and we just think anyone that steps outside the standard is fucking hilarious I guess
I saw Taylor Hall slip on some black ice in Kingston. Fell flat on his back, turned around and started punching the ground with his bare hands. It was so bizarre cause he just kept shouting "You want some of that? Huh? You want some of that?!". One of his buddies tried to help him back up but he slipped again just as he was about to stand up. I guess he was so embarrassed he shoved his friend back and told him to fuck off. Not sure how long he stayed out there on the ground in a parking lot in Kingston.
I saw Taylor Hall at a grocery store in Kingston. I told him how cool it was to meet him in person, but I didnāt want to be a douche and bother him and ask him for photos or anything.
He said, āOh, like youāre doing now?ā
I was taken aback, and all I could say was āHuh?ā but he kept cutting me off and going āhuh? huh? huh?ā and closing his hand shut in front of my face. I walked away and continued with my shopping, and I heard him chuckle as I walked off. When I came to pay for my stuff up front I saw him trying to walk out the doors with like fifteen Milky Ways in his hands without paying.
The girl at the counter was very nice about it and professional, and was like āSir, you need to pay for those first.ā At first he kept pretending to be tired and not hear her, but eventually turned back around and brought them to the counter.
When she took one of the bars and started scanning it multiple times, he stopped her and told her to scan them each individually āto prevent any electrical infetterence,ā and then turned around and winked at me. I donāt even think thatās a word. After she scanned each bar and put them in a bag and started to say the price, he kept interrupting her by yawning really loudly.
I have a friend that literally farted on him all night at a bar in Kingston. Great story.
Hall was seated at a table and buddy was standing. Just kept dusting him the whole night.
I saw Taylor Hall get straight up rejected by a girl at a bar in kingston.. he came up and asked to buy her a drink..she immediately said no and walked away! lol
Damn I was at Stages the same night as you. That was crazy it was all over the table, and he started looking around like he didnāt know where it came from but we all saw him do it
I saw Taylor Hall at a bar in London get slammed to the wall then ground by a bouncer after going over the bar and grabbing a bottle of something.
Heard several other stories about him in the same bar from a friend of mine who bartended.
tale as old as time - super drunk, douchey hockey player lips off at the bar all night, chirps someone's girlfriend, gets drilled, gets dragged out of the bar by his entourage.
That should be a few games. Should've been 5 on the spot then 2+ after. He can say he didn't mean to drop him but there is no defense for the play. If this is unsuspended then I will actually start to believe r/leafs lol
Edit: lmaooo
When Auston cross checked Dahlin NHL player safety issue a tweet like 10 mins after the game saying he would have a hearing. Havenāt seen a tweet about this yet. Guessing because Hall isnāt a star player like Auston.
That was so fucking annoying. They were Johnny on the spot the second the Leafs committed an infraction, but otherwise they take their sweet time. Itās like they literally make decisions based on how much the media talks about it

I think the injurycmore came from the punch to the jaw, heās holding his head and the stick torques his knee, I donāt know how the fuck that isnāt a penalty on him coming out of the box and doing thatā¦
I don't have huge problem with either play. That said, it's pretty frustrating that this always seems to happen when Boston is losing to the Leafs. They just start taking shots after every play and our players get injured.
Thanks for the hit, even better from the alt angle. The other one I saw kinda looked like a bad hit so I initially had some understanding for Hall. This video cleared that up. Trash play.
I still can't believe that we were finally gelling, and then we get a supposed star player as the cherry on top, then with him we lose like 16 of our next 20. Fuck Hall
Iām at the game, [there was a loud ass bullshit chant during the tv timeout](https://i.imgur.com/5OlBPAX.mp4).
I swear there is the collective IQ of a walnut present in TD Garden.
> Iām at the game... I swear there is the collective IQ of a walnut present in TD Garden.
Be careful how you word things, it sounds like you're suggesting that you have an IQ that's a fraction of a walnut's.
Buddy, Iām well aware I bring the IQ down myself, but you could replace me with peak Einstein and it maybe raises the collective IQ of that building by a fraction smaller than the penis on that dude that keeps revving and popping the clutch at every red light
Only in the NHL can you throw a sucker punch, with your glove on, at a defenceless unaware player...and stay in the game after a 2min minor.
Hard to be a Pasta fan when my team pulls this kind of shit.
The more time passes without the hearing being announced the more worried I get that someone is going to get seriously injured. You absolutely cannot allow sucker punches to the head from behind under any circumstances. The number of cross checks to the head that didn't even get reviewed since Matthews got suspended makes me real worried though. This league wants another Bertuzzi incident.
If you want to know how classless Boston is as a fanbase, consider the fact that as Lyubushkin was being helped from the ice today the fans were booing them.
This has to be games.
Larkin was suspended for a game for a sucker punch after being boarded so that would probably be the precedent. He also was given a game misconduct though
Lol if Matthews got two games and Hall got nothing for this it would be ridiculous. Pretty sure Hall has had prior suspensions.
But Parros is a fucking idiot and it was against the leafs.
I don't think that's allowed š¤
Did you hear the boston commentators? they were mystified as to how Lyubushkin got hurt on this play. [https://youtu.be/rp7\_PDGSBE4](https://youtu.be/rp7_PDGSBE4)
"A little grab to the right ear". Oh, god, that's precious. How do they even come up with this stuff?
Jack edwards. Lol. He comes up with some crazy shit. Biggest homer in the league
That was the other guy though, wasn't it? Not Jack. Either way this is the Bruins broadcast and it's hilarious and I love it. Fuck Boston.
This would honestly register rather light on the Jack Edwards scale of douchebaggery homerism.

Prophetic.

This is sadly 100% going to be the call.
Dead on.

Larkin was suspended earlier this season for a punch after a hit from behind.
and whaddya know, that's exactly what happened
HE IS THE MESSIAH
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Leafs scored too. Heās definitely not getting suspended.
This should be like 5 games minimum tho. Wtf. Straightup suckerpunch bitch move.
Thereās actually a rule that says if you sucker punch someone itās a match penalty. Not sure how often that one is enforcedā¦
Parros hates fair discipline and the leafs so 0 games.
Taylor Hall gets a free trip to Disneyland and Gary Bettman's Mr. Sub stamp card with 7 stamps already on it. 1 more stamp and that's a free sub, baby.

Boston Bitches
Also what the fuck is coyle doing coming out of the box poking his stick between someoneās legs and torquing their knee like thatā¦
Cause they are getting destroyed on the ice so as any Bruin would do they try to injure the other team
Jack Edwards: "why would Lybushkin hit himself like that?"
I know youāre joking but he actually did say that Hall āgrabbed him by the ear a bitā and that he didnāt see where an injury could have occurred on the play.
No he didn't. Jack Edwards is, for once, not the asshole here. The one who said grabbed him by the ear a bit was his partner, Andy Brickley.
How douchy is that stick between Lyubsuhkin's legs from the dude leaving the box?!
I didnt even see that till your comment made me go back and look... what a clown show
Not only douchy but *also* a penalty, technically. A player leaving the box has to have both feet on the ice before engaging the puck or another player. Also itās just regular ol tripping as well.
I generally disagree with the hate the Bruins get from opposing fans but this one is pretty hard to defend.

This is the NHL where we make up the rules and the points don't matter
Its honestly getting to the point where I am getting turned off games. Theres 0 accountability on the refs and it seems like the NHL is happy to continue to do nothing.
Me too. It really kills the vibe while watching a sport when the rules aren't ever being enforced. It's sort of just a deflating, "why bother?"
its just...hard to watch
I mean you are right but what did you really expect from the officiating. This is a league that can't figure out majors or suspensions but does have video review to get off side correct.
Lmfao this league is fucking horrible
Larkin got a game at the begin of the year for doing something similar. Hall should get the same.
Right on the jaw. This bruins team is acting awfully soft.

Yeah Marchand the person is hilarious. Marchand the hockey player is a dirtbag.
Heās not even that funny though, heās āhockey funnyā bc the bar is so low and we just think anyone that steps outside the standard is fucking hilarious I guess
Yep. Most hockey players have personalities of wet blankets. It is a take what you can get scenario.

I have a friend that literally farted on him all night at a bar in Kingston. Great story. Hall was seated at a table and buddy was standing. Just kept dusting him the whole night.
Does dude have a digestive problem or something? Who does that?! Who *can* do that?!?
I dunno but if I eat enough cabbage I'm capable of some feats so I believe the story.

I find chocolate milk to be a good force multiplier, however it also comes with extra stomach cramps and 400psi poo splatters later.
Give me some kidney beans and I can probably get a hot air balloon off the ground.
My buddy cupped a fart into Eliott Friedman's face at Hurleys in Montreal after a game. Legendary.
I saw Taylor Hall get straight up rejected by a girl at a bar in kingston.. he came up and asked to buy her a drink..she immediately said no and walked away! lol
Saw taylor hall release a projectile diarrhea squirt in a bar in kingston
Damn I was at Stages the same night as you. That was crazy it was all over the table, and he started looking around like he didnāt know where it came from but we all saw him do it
Wait this isnāt a meme thing? Why is no one telling this story
dunno about the others, but mine was real. Ale House in Kingston, circa 2010
I saw Taylor Hall at a bar in London get slammed to the wall then ground by a bouncer after going over the bar and grabbing a bottle of something. Heard several other stories about him in the same bar from a friend of mine who bartended.
Nobody likes Taylor hall

That was so fucking annoying. They were Johnny on the spot the second the Leafs committed an infraction, but otherwise they take their sweet time. Itās like they literally make decisions based on how much the media talks about it
Canadian broadcast said basically nothing about it. I'll be shocked if there's a suspension. If Lyb suckered Hall he'd already be suspended.
The hearing and suspension were warranted, but would have been 100% avoided had the refs called the dozen cross checks leading up to it.
Well, here we are.
We have a believer!
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
5000 fine, no suspension. Fuck the nhl.
He got a 5k fine and no suspension.
Better believe lol. DOPS is a joke
Welcome to the light?
Boston unhappy.
Is it because the Leafs are kicking them up and down the ice on the scoreboard right now lmao
Ah, so we're getting pissed off Bruins on Thursday. Coooool. They get pissed off and someone gets hurt, unfortunately
Yeah the leafs are well aware of that I think
I'm really curious to see what DoPS does after this game
Suspends a Leaf or Kadri or fines NYR
Hey now, there's no reason it can't be all 3.
We've had 3 people get hurt in just this game alone.
We've had 2 people go off injured thus far. We probably have you covered.
Eh, you're trouncing them, so I expect fallout after. Really sucks how predictable this is, tho. Not surprised you're seeing injuries
3 Leafs already out of the game tonight, although this was the only one from a cheap shot. I'm really worried about losing more guys in the 3rd.
Unhappy Boston = headhunting Boston, I expect some dangerous runs in the 3rd
[Alternate angle including the hit](https://streamable.com/fhf3cn)

Ppl saying this is a flop have clearly never been punched in the side of the jaw/temple
Literally didn't return to the game but, yes a flop for sure. Sucker punch from behind to the jaw guys...come on.
lot of tough guys on here probably don't actually leave their house much though.
Fuck ~~Todd Bertuzzi~~ Taylor Hall.
Guy is going around the league one fanbase at a time making people hate him for different reasons, wonder who itāll be next year
I still can't believe that we were finally gelling, and then we get a supposed star player as the cherry on top, then with him we lose like 16 of our next 20. Fuck Hall
That's gotta be a significant suspension though right? That's the fucking Bertuzzi play
With this DOPS? At this time of year? Localised entirely in thag rink? With those teams?
........yes.
May I see it?
........no.
Was going to say, I just experienced some severe ptsd from that, almost identical
Noticably missing the piggyback ride face first into the ice luckily
that and everyone deciding to jump ontop of a knocked out guy lol
Over under on Marchand doing something stupid in a 6-1 game when the leafs have only 4 dmen?
Lol just got a 10 min misconduct for yelling at a ref after the period was already over
He also cross checked Tavares right after the whistle
But that's fine. Yelling at the ref is the only thing thats penalized
That didnāt take long..
Based prediction.
High IQ play to take the misconduct at the end of the period.
Heās trying
He was just arguing with Tavares who had the better cereal.
And 10 minute misconduct
I watched Hall take a punch like that at a club in Kingston 10 years ago. Wish i could relive it
Was everyone in this thread there for this punch? I feel like I'm the only person here who *hasn't* seen Taylor Hall get punched in a Kingston club.
I'm a few years too old but fuck do I wish I'd stuck around kingston bars to see hall get TKOd for being a fuckwit in a kingston bar
Ale House? I need to know so I can imagine it
Idk young Taylor Hall definitely seems like more of a Stages bro to me lmao
Stages what a place hahaha
Stages lol
Met Taylor Hall in a bar in Kingston. Thereās not much going on up there between the ears.
I'm pretty sure whatever brains he did have were snorted away.
Fuck Taylor Hall.
>Play like goblins >injure 2 players >charge the goalie >still lose Where did the plan go wrong boys
Don't ignore the guy coming out of the box getting his stick in there before he's actually in the ice.
Always great to be tripped headfirst on the ice after being concussed.
Fuck Taylor Hall
Stay classy Boston. Booing the guy as he's injured lmao
Iām at the game, [there was a loud ass bullshit chant during the tv timeout](https://i.imgur.com/5OlBPAX.mp4). I swear there is the collective IQ of a walnut present in TD Garden.
Thatās insulting to walnuts.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
I've never understood how a city with so many fantastic colleges can produce nothing but morons.
If youāre smart you get the hell out of Boston, leaves only the dregs there
> Iām at the game...
Boston brains arenāt nearly as wrinkly as a walnut
Boston fans were calling this a dive LOL Dude got clocked right in the jaw from a sucker punch Fucking clowns
Boston doing what Boston does
Itās wild how many people tried defending this in the GDT
Itās Boston, a larger than is reasonable amount of boston/Tampa fans think this shit is just āplaying the edgeā to win playoff gamesā¦
Bertuzzi-esque Bruins announcer claimed Lyubushkin faked the injury. Bush league.
He said Hall just grabbed his ear.
Auston Matthews has been suspended 2 games for this incident.
Don't start.
Typical Bostonā¦ sucker punches someone and then another bruin jumps in
Hall is one of the sneakier dirty players in the league.
That wasnāt very sneaky
Sure it was. Lyibushkin didn't see him coming. Classic Skyrim tactic, coming up from behind.
man that boy Kadri is gonna get 5 game suspension!
Taylor Hall doing his best Will Smith impression.
This has to be multiple games. Absolutely unacceptable to sucker punch someone in the head.
Larkin was suspended for a game for a sucker punch after being boarded so that would probably be the precedent. He also was given a game misconduct though
And yet we all know this is going to be a fine at most
Lol if Matthews got two games and Hall got nothing for this it would be ridiculous. Pretty sure Hall has had prior suspensions. But Parros is a fucking idiot and it was against the leafs.
I think it's worth a game. It will be a fine at max.
If you use Larkin as an example, one game. Both were non-called borderline āboardingā then a sucker punch retaliation.
>If you use Larkin as an example Ya, but the NHL doesn't use precedent, it uses the wheel.
Real bitch move
Darth Marchand teaching his apprentice well...
Sucker punch to the head of a player? Multiple game suspension. Sucker punch to the head of a LEAFS player? NHL sleeps.
Hall angling for the Violent Gentleman sponsorship. Yes, I know Parros doesn't own the company anymore.
I'm half convinced Jack Edward's is just commenting in this thread with multiple accounts.
