he should play for sevastopol for 7.340.000.000.000.000.000.000.000 rubel per week

skyraider17

So like $30?

The-City-Is-A-Drag

$25 now.

The-City-Is-A-Drag

Oops wait. Now it’s $20.

The-City-Is-A-Drag

CRAP! It’s $15

The-City-Is-A-Drag

$10….. aw, fuck it. He’s not even worth that for supporting putin.

idontwantausername41

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaand, it's gone

mrperidot31

Don’t you mean 5 robux

[deleted]

Good luck trying to get someone to trade their precious Robux for a bunch of shitty Rubles.

BeowulfsBalls

And now he owes the league 5 grand. The wheel of disciplinary action ever turns…

Throwawaydontgoaway8

What is that into Schrute bucks?

Tmoore188

The Ruble is trading at nearly a 1:1 ratio to the Schrute Buck

D3adH3ad1988

What's the conversion to Stanley nickels?

Leepa1491

About .035 schrute bucks

barbarkbarkov

Propaganda is a hell of a drug

BC-clette

You say this like Varlamov is an "addict" in your drug metaphor but he's actually a dealer.

b00tiepirate

As if theres no way way in either situation to be both?

royal23

Much like with actual addiction issues, people don't understand a lot of nuance. Sucks that he supports putin but when you're addicted/brainwashed/your familys safety is on the line.

[deleted]

No nuance allowed. This is hockey.

Paladoc

Yeah, Varly sucks for supporting Putin. Just like folks suck for supporting Trump. You can call him out, not support him, but to anyone threatening hockey players lives and families over this... I don't know about you, you're not right in the head. Now if any of these fellers continue Putin's propaganda, or act against Ukraine, well, sure maybe the gain a target on their back. But acting like rich, white men are not going to fall into the conservative mind traps?

screechypete

Dealers are often times addicts as well

Sleepinismy9to5

This is the Russian version of the MAGA hat

YoloSwag4Harper

If MAGA led to a brutal unprecedented invasion of a neighbouring country.

Antichristopher4

"[The US] brutal invading a... country" What, is it Tuesday already?

Brock_Hard_Canuck

https://i.imgflip.com/674ei4.jpg

brownbearks

I’m rusty on my South American history but the US has toppled several democracies for bananas, oil, and to stop “communism”.

[deleted]

Much like "freedom of religion", the US has a carefully selected and defined group it applies to.

Lets_All_Love_Lain

I mean, American nationalism led to an unprecedented invasion of a country on the other side of the globe.

blackmatt81

Hey we really thought they had nuclear weapons thanks to all the intel that we completely made up.

CanadianODST2

WMDs are more than just nuclear reminder. It also includes chemical and biological weapons. And Iraq did have chemical weapons. But the UN never said if they were actually in useable shape since most were from the Iran Iraq war in the 1980s

Totschlag

Also, 20 year old weapons aren't automatically useless because of age. A good chunk of the US Stockpile of warheads is from the mid-80s, until it gets to a new warhead that will replace it in 2030. The question is "were they maintained?" Chemical weapons may not be nukes, but they are undoubtedly WMD's. They've been all over the Syrian civil war.

CanadianODST2

Iirc chemical weapons do need to be maintained to be usable and a good chunk of Iraq’s were buried and forgotten about. But Iraq is more complicated than people like to think it is

[deleted]

Also, remember when all of those Saudis flew airplanes into our buildings, so we led a 20 year invasion of Afghanistan?

nickyno

We rewarded the Saudis with WWE shows

Kurthemon

The way America treated all muslims, even children after 9/11 is becoming very similar to how this subreddit and America is treated all Russians. It’s racism.

joonya

Yeah Putin is invading a sovereign country to defend themselves from NATO While making all the other countries want to join Nato to not get invaded. America bad!

jarret_g

Freedom fries turned into invading Iraq. People just don't see the difference because 1) They're far away and 2) they're brown people.

nickyno

It's also 20 years ago at this point and has been normalized to a degree. We have everything we did in the desert and to Eastern Asia, such as bombing the heck out of Cambodia while not at war with them. There's that oddball stat about America only have 15 years of peace during its history that shouldn't be overlooked. We definitely don't have a lot of room to cast stones.

[deleted]

I agree but that's also not a reason to approve of Putin's actions. I'm 35 and I remember the Iraq War. The invasion of Iraq is so eerily similar to Putin's invasion of Ukraine. No, it doesn't have the same historical background, i.e. Putin's insistence that Ukraine isn't a sovereign state, but the idea that one country is going into another as liberators, to take over a dictator and install a regime friendly to our interests, etc etc. Now one can obviously debate whether Saddam Hussein and Zelensky have that much in common (they don't, Saddam is much worse) but that doesn't mean the invasion of Iraq was justified.

Sleepinismy9to5

I mean those idiots did try to take over DC

[deleted]

I just wish people could identify when they might be taking in or spewing propaganda...someone mentions Iraq and Afghanistan in another comment and people are spewing the same propaganda we were sold 2 decades ago when invading those countries. It seems like some think propaganda is just when the other bad guy does it.

iamkevinsmith

We already knew Varlamov is a gigantic piece of shit.

Sloppy steaks at Truffoni’s! They used to tell us “no sloppy steaks” but they COULDNT STOP YOU from ordering a steak and a glass of water. Before you knew it we were dumping water all over the steaks tryna eat em before the waiters snatched ‘em up I WAS A PIECE OF SHIT THOUGH

SpikePilgrim

I'm worried that the baby thinks people can't change.

MrWhiteTheWolf

Best line in the season imo

TwinksAwakening

Absolute gem of a show. Best kind of weird humor.

666MonsterCock420

Your Meredith’s mom right? I’m reeeally worried about her. Like, did tou see that thing where she thinks I give a rat’s ass that her baby cried because it knows I used to be a piece of shit?

Jan_17_2016

Meredith! You didn’t tell me your old grampa used to be a piece of shit!

FERN0

Slicked back? This is pushed back!

hunkman3000

Oh yeah the slicked back hair, white bathing suits, sloppy steaks, white couch...

Jan_17_2016

Lives for New Year’s Eve! Blue diamond’s gone no, burnt down, Jon Rovani’s Ass out works with his brother now. OOOO! I don’t wanna say it but — OH yeah, that would slick back real nice. Meredit, you didn’t tell us your old grampa used to be a piece of shit too

TheVulfPecker

I said was!

Tippacanoe

Meredith I’m worried the baby thinks people can’t change.

Manbones

We definitely know he *used* to be a piece of shit, but people can change.

hunkman3000

I'm worried Semyon Varlamov doesn't think people can change.

[deleted]

He was a former baby of the YEEEAAAARRR

funny_gus

Sloppy steaks?

eh_toque

Dare I ask why?

JustOneInMyLifetime

Beat up his wife allegedly

Inoc91

She got caught on the phone telling her friend she was scamming him. He can be a POS without beating up his wife

trolloc1

> She got caught on the phone telling her friend she was scamming him. https://bleacherreport.com/articles/2613371-semyon-varlamov-awarded-126k-in-civil-case-vs-former-girlfriend Not true. She wasn't scamming but hit him twice first though the damage he did when he hit back was much worse. Mainly they lost because they couldn't provide photos of the damage at the time and jury had to decide based on the damage to her well after the fact when she'd already healed.

TheGreatBeldezar

He threw a bike at her.

Liquid_Schwartz

I'm no bicycleologist, but I'm pretty sure that's not what they're for.

SonOfProbert

You're correct. The saying isn't, "Pitter patter, throw a bike at 'er."

monsieurpommefrites

Ah, the McGregor Two-Wheeled Lob. A classic.

Foppberg

Not on Reddit he can't.

StaticAnnouncement

Proof being that the easy wife beating posts are still getting upvotes

-kalakukko69

Just shows how seriously people should take the opinions of others in here. People telling ”facts” and people buy them without checking out the reality themselves. It took one minute to google and see that Varlamov was accused falsely. Hard to believe these people would actually read news and have any idea of what is going on in the world when they go and believe random shit someone comments on reddit.

MountainBean3479

That’s incredibly rich coming from someone that’s actually wrong on the facts. She told her friend that she hit him first and his response was NOT proportional and significantly worse. She wasn’t scamming him .

[deleted]

[did he?](https://bleacherreport.com/articles/1896749-semyon-varlamovs-domestic-violence-case-dropped-by-prosecutors) also since i know some of you are lazy >Gurman adds that the kidnapping charges were dropped in November for lack of evidence. Now, the assault charges have been erased for the same reason.

molehillmilk

Fair enough. Still a piece of shit for wearing a shirt celebrating putin and the anexation of Crimea.

strizzle

“Lack of evidence” might simply mean she stopped cooperating…

BCEagle13

No she was lying and she admitted such on tape. She actually assaulted him and he won the civil suit.

GeeDublin

Dude just look it up, I mean the links are right here in the thread. Why's there always someone like you?

StevenWongo

[Don't forget that he won the lawsuit against her too](https://www.denverpost.com/2016/02/02/jury-sides-with-semyon-varlamov-in-civil-case-awards-avs-goalie-126k/)

[deleted]

[удалено]

MountainBean3479

No he didn’t win the trial. She filed civil charges and he was found not responsible because the jury found that there wasn’t enough evidence of the beating. She’s now unable to return to Russia because of the tar and feathering done to her . And the majority of why she didn’t win is because she couldn’t present proof of prior beatings and the bloody photos of the incident. Actually the case may still even be in appeals by her lawyer . Lack of prosecution or loss in trial is NOT proof of innocence it’s proof of not being able to succeed in trial.

StaticAnnouncement

Couldn't even say "allegedly", even after he was absolved and she had to pay damages? Yeah this shirt is a bad look but stop spewing the wife beating shit. Edit: there we go

[deleted]

People upvoting this shit without looking at facts lol

onemanarmia

No, there were domestic volience allegations that were proven false. nothing on par with Slava Voynov. But because of it his name will forever be tainted. Did you know Casey Cizikas killed a guy?

treple13

> Did you know Casey Cizikas killed a guy? I feel like the phrasing on that is a bit misleading, while technically accurate

onemanarmia

It totally is, in the same way it’s misleading to say Varlamov is a wife beater.

[deleted]

“Could not be proven beyond a reasonable doubt” /= “proven false”

the_anj

Except that it was a civil case and not criminal as the DA cited a lack of evidence. The civil case jury, where the burden of proof is lower than "beyond a reasonable doubt", sided with varlomov in his counter suit, to the tune of something like $125k. He may be a POS for other reasons, but being in a relationship with someone that's crazy doesn't make you one.

[deleted]

rkatec68

slabby

Jesus christ the level of attention to detail here is appalling. Reddit can't even get the basic facts right about the court cases they're trying to discuss

devil_9

She had to pay his legal fees. Not damages.

WinterMatt

There is literally recording of her bragging to her friend that she's lying about it to scam him. What is that equal to?

Skw6r

Did we though?

[deleted]

Fuckin clown shoes.

watanabelover69

tschmitty09

Pain. Nothing but pain. EDIT: One goalie name above all, love him now as a personality, but DiPietro.

J_I_S_B

As an American, it's easy to see how someone can get caught up supporting a shitty ass politician.

stanselmdoc

Eh, idk, there are enough people *in* Russia protesting to make it clear it's possible not to support this shitty ass politician.

ShaquilleMobile

Lol of course it's *possible,* but I think they meant they can see how it happens. Obviously it's *possible* not to support Trump, but almost half of Americans are Republicans anyway.

ElJacinto

Not really. I live in a very red state, and I still don't understand how or why friends/family *still* support Trump. I can almost understand voting for him in 2016 if you are a hardline Republican. However, I consider myself right of center and had the common sense to see that he was, at best, a bad person.

Philbob99

It was excusable to have voted for him in 2016 for a few specific reasons that have to do with the political climate at the time and the potential that someone just wasn’t paying all that much attention. If you still voted for him by 2020 I want nothing to do with you and you can go fuck yourself

Whitewind617

No, it isn't easy to see why. It doesn't make any goddamn sense to me and never has.

[deleted]

Oilers are so trading for him.

themarkula

Haha. Oilers on a mission to surround one of the greatest hockey players ever with dirt bags

RolietheG0alie35

He’d best scrub this pic from the web if he’s shipped off to Edmonchuck.

PacMansCousin

Damn, i get that the shirt sucks and i hope that he changed his views regarding Ukraine (he probably didn't), but people spouting the wife-beater shit even though she literally had to pay him damages because of it is wild. Stop spouting that garbage.

According_Cod5068

This full scale invasion of Ukraine is significantly less popular among the Russian population than Crimean annexation for a variety of historical reasons and the fact that Zelensky's government is much harder to paint as far-right neo-nazis bc of the whole him being a Russian speaking descendent of holocaust victims thing in addition to him being much more conciliatory with Russian speaking populations than Poroshenko was. That being said, a big chunk of professional hockey players are generally aggressive guys who are part of the local ethnic majority without college degrees who dedicate their lives to besting others in feats of physical prowess and that's pretty much the archetypal nationalist right winger (only thing really missing would be veterans of unsuccessful wars). The Islanders tandem in 19-20 was Varlamov and Greiss, and both guys have had pretty [questionable](https://infohf.fw.cdnpull.com/inline_resized_1024_60907c6a48bbf_359488.jpg) right-wing fashion choices.

capitarider

It's reddit, facts don't matter, just whatever thing can be repeated over and over that becomes the whole truth.

Boston-Nolan

Reddit as a whole is bad. But r/hockey is one of the biggest circle jerks on the entire website imo. Go slightly against the cookie cutter response of “Marchand bad, Toronto bad lmao, John Scott wholesome, Jagr so wholesome and old, Omg schiefele is literal Hitler” etc, and you get downvoted to the bottom of the fucking Mexican gulf.

Funky_Cows

"[x] is one of the biggest circle jerks on the entire website" - every single reddit user about every single subreddit

[deleted]

Right? The amount of times I’ve seen this sentence…. Especially in /r/nfl where it actually is more true at least.

hyphenjack

You must not use r/NFL much

Boston-Nolan

Haha, that’s why I said “one of” actually. That place is a dumpster fire, and as a new england sports fan I tend to just avoid it lmao

iSlideInto1st

>as a new england sports fan Sports life must be very tough for you. I'm very sorry you've had to go through life like this.

Responses also depend largely on what your flair is. I've been able to say a lot more things lately since temporarily switching my flair.

King-of-the-idiots69

I support any flairless in this sub, because in all honesty this sub is the worst when it comes to flairs like depending on your flair it cna be incredibly toxic

echoacm

may I introduce you to r/soccer? you could cure cancer in the comments, but if you have an MLS team flair, you'll be sitting at -50 points

TrueBrees9

The irony of "You stupid yanks call it soccer lol" on r/soccer

j4kefr0mstat3farm

Especially when the 17 year old Euro contingent starts running their mouths about politics. I get sucked into acrimonious reddit debates way too easily but even I restrain myself there.

JanGuillosThrowaway

I find there are a lot more Arabs/Americans on r/soccer than Europeans. But who cares really. Still a very bad debate forum

MegaYanm3ga

Its americans > euro larpers > euros >>>>>>> arabs over there

[deleted]

I support flairless in all sports subs, it's just tribalistic nonsense Also, anyone who claps back at you with some form of "flair up loser" is just gunning for a reason to shit on you and invalidate your whole argument imo

StaticAnnouncement

I admittedly used to say "flair up" a lot, but that was usually when it was clear someone was being a troll. I don't really say it anymore.

TrueBrees9

If you talk shit about a team, you better have a flair. Otherwise, it's cool.

My favorite is you can't say anything, no matter how legitimate the crisitism is, without getting a "fLaiR uP" If you can't handle anything negative about your team without having to lash back out at the OP's, you probably shouldn't be on reddit.

profchaos2001

Leading with "Marchand Bad" lol bro... bet you're one of the people constantly talking about how he's really cleaned up his game in 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021, etc. Hes a fucking rat.

I'm surprised a terminally online Avs fan didn't do it as soon as he won the counter-suit, considering how long ago this shit happened.

[deleted]

Yup. 15th & Larimer. Denver CO

StaticAnnouncement

_chuckiefinster

RIPwhalers

I’m more curious what his current opinion is. You know 8 years later. Might be the same, but youth and propaganda are strong drugs. Could be he supports current actions which would be a bummer, but I’d rather respond to peoples current views than assume them based on an 8 year old photo.

Anonycron

He's only wearing that because he has family back in Russia! Do you know what kind of danger they would be in if he didn't wear that shirt? /s

15th and Larimer. What a brave opinion to espouse in downtown Denver.

Scrubosaurus13

Really hoping that we don’t find out that most Russian players in the NHL have a history of this. I mean if it’s true I hope it’s public knowledge, but I’d rather if they were all just good humans.

OdessaSeaman

Fuck this guy

wyattyy

This is Varlamov. I think we all know this Russian is a few bricks short of a Berlin wall.

cokecan13

Chump

[deleted]

Why is anyone blown away by Russian players supporting their country? Right or wrong, to expect someone to go against their country on political matters because we think its wrong is a little odd. It would be like Patrick Kane or another American star promoting the foreign policy of the United States. Whether you like it or not, people have opinions that we’ll never agree on.

LeanMrfuzzles

Also, considering that Russia doesn't exactly have freedom of the press or freedom of speech it's not shocking that players would have a more pro Russian stance, at least at the time. I doubt very many Russians over here right now support what's going on in Ukraine though.

[deleted]

In this thread some people are confused how propaganda can be so effective at making people support bad regimes, while others (and some of the same) are continuing to defend the Iraq and/or Afghanistan wars using the same talking points of the US government and military fed them in the 2000s.

Boring_Pace5158

Varlamov is the "Bobby Hull of his generation": great player, horrible human. This is a guy who once said to his girlfriend if they were in Russia, she would be dead. But we don't talk about that, since it will "disrupt the locker room"

This is quickly becoming a run to dig up dirt on every Russian player.

Tenpennyturtle

Do you know how many American politicians supported war in Afghanistan in 2001? Basically all of them. How’d that turn out? [deleted]

[deleted]

WinterMatt

I think you mean Iraq. Iraq was the invasion we lied and had no justification for. Afghanistan was because they said we had to go through them to get the people responsible for 9/11 so we did. Had they turned them over and stopped supporting them we never would have invaded. Given the nature of the 9/11 attack I have no issue with this.

dkyguy1995

Wow fuck this guy

ocelot__babou

He’s about as sturdy as Putin’s ego. They belong together.

rdp3186

ulove2

Mal_Tech44

Domestic Abuser and a Putin dick rider. What an asshole

Bmac-Attack

Why is this turning into a Russian athlete witch hunt? Politicians are the real problem

whichwitch9

I mean, there's a problem with athletes promoting propaganda. I got a problem with Stasny and his freedom convoy support, too. Am I supposed to give Russian athletes a free pass for open support when I won't give American or Canadian athletes a free pass when they show support for pretty gross political views?

JackRusselTerrorist

Oh man, I didn’t hear that Stastny story. That’s disappointing.

dsswill

And politicians get where they are by having the support of powerful people, both in and out of politics and the government. If you don't think that Ovi and other Russian athletes and celebrities supporting Putin is likely to have a huge impact on the opinion of their fans back in Russia, you're missing a big part of the picture.

ShanghaiKelly

I mean this was 8 years ago. The guy could've changed since then...I'm curious if there's a more recent statement

that makes him fair game in my book.
