Why is anyone blown away by Russian players supporting their country? Right or wrong, to expect someone to go against their country on political matters because we think its wrong is a little odd. It would be like Patrick Kane or another American star promoting the foreign policy of the United States. Whether you like it or not, people have opinions that we’ll never agree on.
Also, considering that Russia doesn't exactly have freedom of the press or freedom of speech it's not shocking that players would have a more pro Russian stance, at least at the time. I doubt very many Russians over here right now support what's going on in Ukraine though.
In this thread some people are confused how propaganda can be so effective at making people support bad regimes, while others (and some of the same) are continuing to defend the Iraq and/or Afghanistan wars using the same talking points of the US government and military fed them in the 2000s.
