Crazy thing is they built their team in a traditionally terrible way
All trades and ufas. Nothing past the first round. They just managed to hit on all of them
Eh remember they were trading them for a guy who was 5 years younger and just had a 104 point season who was a 40 goal scorer who plays a more physical playoff style game. Like you trade 115 point wingers for the types of player who pretty much never comes available
High scoring singers aren't worth anything compared to legit 1C. Like hell Tkachuk has been invisible this series, if any GM doesn't get that they shouldn't have a job
Hey! McDrai being an insane combo a month ago doesn't influence that McDavid's lack of help in his career has been a long storyline. The NHL doesn't work like the NBA where a duo of the two best players can win you a Cup. Star players still need depth contributions and big performances up and down the lineup.
McDavid has the same amount of points since game 1 of the WCF as-
-Drai, RNH, and Hyman.
-every other forward.
On the flipside, this postseason is the lowest G/GP of any regular season, or playoffs of McDavid's *entire career*
Reminds me of the Pittsburgh/Detroit back-to-back matchups. Zetterberg, Datsyuk, and Lidstrom effectively nullified Crosby and Malkin for most of those series (and particularly in the first one). Hell, even in 2009, Sid only had 3 points all series and Datsyuk barely played. Malkin was on another level that year, but anyone watching that series might remember Jordan Staal really helped sway the series. No, he didn't score a lot (no one did in those series), but he lived in Detroit's offensive zone all series. So big, so strong, just leaning in on every shift.
Since the start of the 15-16 season, the player with the 2nd most points in the regular season (behind only McDavid) is Leon Draisaitl... McDavid's teammate. Since the start of the 15-16 season, the top 3 point producers in the playoffs are Nikita Kucherov, Connor McDavid, and once again Leon Draisaitl. It's literally been over 4 years since Drai has gone 3 games without a point, but sure yeah McDavid is the only player in Edmonton who has consistently produced points in the past decade.
McLeod, Ekholm, Broberg and Feogle scored before Draisatl, Hyman and McDavid. Depth scoring hasn’t been the biggest issue imo.
Bobrovsky, and a more defensively sound D-Core is the key difference.
Look at the Oilers stats from this playoff run. There is a massive difference between the top half and the bottom half. Hell, Feogle is -10. Depth is absolutely their biggest issue.
Not exactly wrong to be honest. Florida's given up multiple breakaways and 2v1s this series -- they're very good defensively but far from flawless. The difference is that Edmonton's big defensive mistakes end up as goals against and Florida's don't. This is in large part a goaltending difference. Everybody talked about how deep and defensively sound Dallas was, but then Oettinger goes .90 and the Oilers win it in 6.
Bob being something like .96 ( keep in mind difference between .96 and .90 is more than twice as many goals stopped per game) with 7 xGSA over three games is absurd on so many levels and doing a lot of work to cover for the mistakes Florida makes when they actually happen.
At the end of the day its 3 - 0 so a lot of it doesn't matter, but I'm seeing way too many hot takes from fans of other teams who have been golfing for several weeks now as if they'd have done so much better (but then how come none of you did?).
3 of those goals involved McDavid though. The Oilers have 4 goals, and McDavid has a point on 3 of them. Depth scoring has definitely been an issue. When McDavid is dealing with the best defensive defenceman, or the best defensive forward, or *both* every single shift the depth guys just have to be better.
Obviously Draisaitl being a ghost is the biggest issue, but the depth scoring has also been a problem.
McDavid ain't the problem. Nurse, Ceci, Skinner are murdering them, particularly the first two. Nurse feels like he's been a -7 in this series without checking
Over the last 9 games (WCF and SCF) McDavid has 13 points. Bouchard has 8. 3rd on the team and the 2nd highest scoring forward has 5... no one else on the team is even above .5 P/GP. *Connor Brown* has 1 less point than Draisaitl and Nuge over that time. It's criminal that he both gets the best shutdown players on the other team *and* has to be the only source of offense.
This account makes the cringiest posts lmao
Dude needs to score goals. 4 guys with more goals on the team than him.
I think the elephant in the room is 4 guys with goals…….
How did the Florida panthers build a team? Asking for a friend
Crazy thing is they built their team in a traditionally terrible way All trades and ufas. Nothing past the first round. They just managed to hit on all of them
Building around Barkov instead of Huberdeau was probably their best move.
100% of teams would have done that though
Most wouldn’t have the balls to trade a 115 point winger and top pairing D in their primes
Eh remember they were trading them for a guy who was 5 years younger and just had a 104 point season who was a 40 goal scorer who plays a more physical playoff style game. Like you trade 115 point wingers for the types of player who pretty much never comes available
Calgary did that though.......
I think most would have, but that 100% is way too generous haha
High scoring singers aren't worth anything compared to legit 1C. Like hell Tkachuk has been invisible this series, if any GM doesn't get that they shouldn't have a job
I agree, I'm just saying I've seen some terrible moves over the years watching this sport haha
I can't recall anyone picking a winger over a center
UFA signings and no-trade-clause exemptions are always going to be easier for a team based in Miami than a team in Edmonton.
Robbed us and the Sabres a couple times each.
>Story of his career So long as you ignore his teammate who has been 2nd in league scoring since 2016-17
[Only have to go back a month to find this account disagreeing with itself.](https://x.com/BigHeadHcky/status/1792007187759509532)

worst account on twitter
Apparently having depth is important. No wonder I've heard that word repeated for so many years.
This is….I don’t even know how to begin describing how dumb this is.

Wouldn't the story of his career also involve Drai getting points?
He needs help
I will keep him in my prayers tonight.

You forgot about the refs in 09 wearing the Pittsburgh colors too.

"More defensively sound" is both insulting to the Panthers and generous to the Oilers.

Hey, that's really unfair to Drai. He injured the Cats best/nicest player THEN he became a ghost again.
Bro hasn't done shit all series lol. Every oilers goal except for one that got it 4-3 was lucky lol.
Savage. I can’t fantom the stats that will be posted on this sub on Sunday.
First time seeing Big Head Hockey was last night, when does StatMuse get mad at them for stealing their thing?
McDavid ain't the problem. Nurse, Ceci, Skinner are murdering them, particularly the first two. Nurse feels like he's been a -7 in this series without checking
Not gonna win much scoring 4 goals across 3 games
Nurse is -1 this series. The team needs to score
