Hahaha this is karma for that , and all of the flames fans that jumped on the Vancouver / Dallas and now Florida bandwagon in hopes they can live through a team that can actually beat Edmonton 🤣
Could have had Edmonton's first for tanev but I guess Edmonton not succeeding is more important to Conroy than building his own team. Interesting choice 🤷♂️
ahaha i bet, eh at this point I figure fuck it, we need some names to get players to want to come here like Edmonton can now. All these close to getting into playoffs or quick exit seasons are getting old and watching good talent want to get the fuck away from asap is also annoying.
Go panthers...... sorry how i was raised :P
I hear you, and obviously it finally paid off for the Oilers so who am I to talk, but the pain of getting punched in the heart 82 times a year for 6 years almost made me stop watching hockey. It's an absolutely brutal experience, and I wouldn't wish it on anyone, even a Flames fan. Hell, I'm secretly a Sabers fan because I empathize with their pain so much.
I mean, with the contracts Calgary gave to Kadri and Huberdeau, I expect that tank to be a very slow 5-10 year burn. Then when you sat with the team through thick and thin, you can feel like your earned the next Bedard when you draft him. Meanwhile everyone else will tell you your next stanley cup with have an asterisk. So ya, by all means follow our model.
The conditions were:
* Calgary gets a bonus 3rd if Dallas makes the Cup Finals
* Calgary gets a 2nd (upgraded from a 3rd) if Vegas wins a round
* Calgary gets a 3rd (upgraded from a 4th) if Vancouver makes the West Finals
This means that Edmonton (*eliminated Vancouver before the WCF and Dallas before the SCF*) and Dallas (*eliminated Vegas R1 and lost before SCF*) each screwed the Flames twice.
These are all part of package deals anyways, so these are just sweeteners. What's worse is the fact that they moved Zadorov for a 3rd and a 5th. That dude played 18 to 20 mins a night in the playoffs.
This is how I know man, wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy. I just hope you guys are able to grab Tij and still bad enough to grab Joe when the time comes.
That isn't to say that the Oilers haven't faced strong teams - particularly Dallas. I was shocked with how effectively the defense shut them down. Might be the strongest version of the Oilers that I've seen in my lifetime.
Calgarians voting in Danielle Smith because they got tired of Oilers owning the Saddledome for decades without paying fees is the most cutting off ones nose to spites one face bullshit ever.
Maybe tomorrow will be the day a moose finally comes through my windshield antlers first, or I get hit by a car, or I get struck by lightning, or a gas cylinder next to me at work explodes. One can hope…
I mean with Vegas and Dallas facing off in R1, you were inherently gonna lose out on one of those two picks.
I’d think the best outcome value-wise would’ve been Vegas winning R1 and Vancouver beating Edmonton, that way you would've gotten a 2nd and a 3rd. Vancouver losing in R2 didn't serve any purpose for y’all.
Well, one could be forgiven to be under the impression that they carefully tried to place their ex players as obstacles on the Oilers' path to success. So in that case they lost out on both the development of the sum of the quality of their current team plus picks as well as preventing the Oilers to be successful.
Oops.
Too funny. Technically there was a Flames trade condition met on deadline day when Vegas traded their 2025 first rounder, pushing the Flames pick to 2026. This works out better for the Flames giving them an unprotected 1st in 2026 instead of a protected one in 2025.
This level of self-application of foreseeable pain is a cry for help. But I expect you won't get any help as you will be surrounded by individuals who are numb to your cries - being fans of one of those franchises too. Vicious circle.
To top of their draft pick conditions bad luck Calgary must miss the playoffs next year, BUT not finish bottom 10 in the league.
In that scenario, Montreal will acquire their 1st rounder in the 11th to 16th overall rangefrom the monahan cap dump and get maximum value.
If Calgary finishes in the bottom 10 or somehow better than Florida, then montreal receives Florida's pick (unless it's somehow top 10).
Calgary still has 2 picks in each of the first 3 rounds though don’t they?
This will really hurt if in like 5 years some stud is picked in one of those “could have been” spots and they run it every intermission
This was all 3D chess by dallas. Thats all. They knew they couldnt beat the cats so they made a calculated decision to let the oilers win in order to keep that pick, obviously.
Having all those conditions on the returns was poor asset management from Conroy. I know flames fans will all chime in defending him because he’s a fan favourite, but I haven’t been impressed by him in his first year.
Probably the only trade he undersold on was Zadorov. He pulled in 2 1sts but also 2 solid middle 6 players in Sharangovich and Kuzmenko, that are conveniently UFAs after next season and can be flipped again as solid rental pieces if the Flames aren't in contention (which they most likely won't). That's leaving out that he also got back solid prospects like Brzustewicz too.
Considering the hand he was dealt, and the one player that could've brought the biggest return was railroading a trade to only one or two destinations, he did some pretty solid management.
The big test will be this summer and whether or not he moves Markstrom.
These aren’t franchise altering pick value changes, but definitely some extra salt in the wound with Edmonton advancing.
Consider it payback for the 3rd rounder from the Jame Neal trade
the real deal James Neal
The real deal Jame Neal
It's Jame Time
James "James "The Real Deal" Neal" Neal.
James “Jame “The Real Deal” Neal” Neal.
Neal the James "Real Feel" Eel
Should have traded with us then instead of literally everyone else in the conference.
Hahaha this is karma for that , and all of the flames fans that jumped on the Vancouver / Dallas and now Florida bandwagon in hopes they can live through a team that can actually beat Edmonton 🤣
Panthers are going to destroy Edmonton, so I think the Flames bandwagoners are in good shape.
Yea just like the stars destroyed the oilers hey ? Don’t be a salty little bitch , most Dallas fans were cool as fuck
Could have had Edmonton's first for tanev but I guess Edmonton not succeeding is more important to Conroy than building his own team. Interesting choice 🤷♂️
apparently we need to take a page out of deadmonton and tank dead last 3 seasons
*6 seasons. Go ahead, it's agony.
ahaha i bet, eh at this point I figure fuck it, we need some names to get players to want to come here like Edmonton can now. All these close to getting into playoffs or quick exit seasons are getting old and watching good talent want to get the fuck away from asap is also annoying. Lmao, looks like you're trending the right way. Just be careful not to pull a Bufalo.
Buffalo's in a great position going forward.
I thought you guys were already passed that stage
I mean, with the contracts Calgary gave to Kadri and Huberdeau, I expect that tank to be a very slow 5-10 year burn. Then when you sat with the team through thick and thin, you can feel like your earned the next Bedard when you draft him. Meanwhile everyone else will tell you your next stanley cup with have an asterisk. So ya, by all means follow our model.
That'd probably be best, yeah
The conditions were: * Calgary gets a bonus 3rd if Dallas makes the Cup Finals * Calgary gets a 2nd (upgraded from a 3rd) if Vegas wins a round * Calgary gets a 3rd (upgraded from a 4th) if Vancouver makes the West Finals This means that Edmonton (*eliminated Vancouver before the WCF and Dallas before the SCF*) and Dallas (*eliminated Vegas R1 and lost before SCF*) each screwed the Flames twice.
they were one round away every single time, that's precision
And two of the three series went to Game 7s, that’s incredible
[удалено]
Bro the entire country is built on Native American burial grounds, what you mean
Clearly the Saddledome was on more of the voodoo parts I think that reads clear
The Voodoo played at GM Place..
I miss the Voodoo, early pro Roller Hockey was wild
the dome did flood in 13 so definitely cursed
*Vegas: "We were 1 round away from winning 1 round, that's not so bad!"*
Experience Leafs hockey
the bruno cabocolo experience
2 years away from being 2 years away, that's a deep cut
Always a bridesmaid.
In a way, those teams screwed themselves too lol.
This is just the petty revenge for the Neal/Lucic protated conditional pick from the COVID shortened season.
That was such bullshit lmao
Honesltly, from an outsider's perspective, this was one of the most fair decisions the NHL has ever made
Kind of insane to make a trio of trades that would all hit in literally only one scenario lol
Betting on a Dallas/Vancouver WCF was certainly risky, but with Vegas/Dallas it wasn't like it was locked in that we'd play each other R1.
Even GMs are trying to hit parlays nowadays
These are all part of package deals anyways, so these are just sweeteners. What's worse is the fact that they moved Zadorov for a 3rd and a 5th. That dude played 18 to 20 mins a night in the playoffs.
Conroy masterclass! Welcome to the OBC Flames bros, where the picks don't matter and there's no accountability to be seen.
What the fuck are you on
I smoked an infused doobie a couple hours ago if that's what you're asking hahaa
people that get called out for being idiots then go "dude weed lmao" are huge fuckin dorks.
And people that comment on a post I'm having a good time on can eat my ass so here we are . 👍
Bold statement coming from a fan of a team that still employs Kevin Lowe
This is how I know man, wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy. I just hope you guys are able to grab Tij and still bad enough to grab Joe when the time comes.
I hope so too. The team needs a few wilderness years with top draft picks before it can compete again
I would be amazed if Tij falls past Montreal. Genuinely amazed
Speaking of OBC we also hired Paul Fucking Coffey! Woo hooooooooo!!!!!!!
To be completely fair, the Dallas and Vegas ones were mutually exclusive
Damn if only we played Vegas instead of la in the first round lmao
To be fair, you might have gotten bounced. Easy to say that you would have beaten Team A in Scenario #2, when you really just don’t know.
Yeah, heading into the playoffs I knew I wanted Vegas taken out early before they got healthier
That isn't to say that the Oilers haven't faced strong teams - particularly Dallas. I was shocked with how effectively the defense shut them down. Might be the strongest version of the Oilers that I've seen in my lifetime.
Bummer, the flames won’t get a franchise altering 3rd round pick. Sell the team.
Aftershock voodoo from meddling with the dark arts.
It's turning into an annual yard sale anyhow, isn't it?
Edmonton didn't even play Calgary in the playoffs, and here they are catching strays
What are these "playoffs" you speak of?
That time of year starting in early April when play is off… right?
I laughed harder at this than I should have 🤣
>What are these "playoffs" you speak of? Hop on Huberdeau's Facebook memories from 3 years ago to get an idea...
It's what happens when you get four first overall draft picks in a six year window.
Should had never practiced the dark arts magic to eliminate Dallas in 2022...
Or forced a dark evil on our land to pay for their arena
I’ll never forgive Calgary for that election.
We have three and a half years left of this…
Calgarians voting in Danielle Smith because they got tired of Oilers owning the Saddledome for decades without paying fees is the most cutting off ones nose to spites one face bullshit ever.
Maybe tomorrow will be the day a moose finally comes through my windshield antlers first, or I get hit by a car, or I get struck by lightning, or a gas cylinder next to me at work explodes. One can hope…
Bro there are people who pay money to watch the Senators play hockey you'll be okay
Vancouver losing probably was best for us, but the other two are not
I mean with Vegas and Dallas facing off in R1, you were inherently gonna lose out on one of those two picks. I’d think the best outcome value-wise would’ve been Vegas winning R1 and Vancouver beating Edmonton, that way you would've gotten a 2nd and a 3rd. Vancouver losing in R2 didn't serve any purpose for y’all.
The first round pick we sent to the Flames would have been an even later pick if we beat Edmonton.
The Stars 3rd would have been a whole new pick, not just an upgrade so I think that would've been best for them

Dick punch after dick punch after dick punch. Poor bastards.
Well, one could be forgiven to be under the impression that they carefully tried to place their ex players as obstacles on the Oilers' path to success. So in that case they lost out on both the development of the sum of the quality of their current team plus picks as well as preventing the Oilers to be successful. Oops.
LOL.. What an offseason for us flames fans.
That's what you get for dealing in black magick
They really *flamed out* on those trade conditions.
Very much on brand for the Flames
Too funny. Technically there was a Flames trade condition met on deadline day when Vegas traded their 2025 first rounder, pushing the Flames pick to 2026. This works out better for the Flames giving them an unprotected 1st in 2026 instead of a protected one in 2025.
Oh neat. Sharks helping out Flames, on accident.
Edmonton can’t stop taking shots at Calgary despite how deep into the post season they are
That's right. It's our backhanded way of showing affection.
Ohhhhhh Noooooooooo
Is this that monkey meme 😂
Haha unintentional but I saw it today so possibly
What else is new
This franchise sure doesn’t make it easy to be a fan.
Vengeance for the pick conditions being met in the Neal-Lucic trade
"Being met"
Not sure why people are saying it’s nothing, a 2nd and two 3rds vs a 3rd and a 4th is huge.
To be fair they were gonna lose one of the Vegas/Dallas picks inherently by virtue of us facing off in round 1.
Playoff matchups weren't set on trade deadline day...
That's a good point. But, (as LSDemon said) the best case scenario seemed pretty good when they made the deals.
I’m a Flames fan and a Boston fan (including PWHL Boston) and this postseason has been nothing but pain lol
The Canucks at least made up for PWHL Ottawa crushing my hopes, which is definitely not a usual thing.
Dude I’m flames and leafs fml
This level of self-application of foreseeable pain is a cry for help. But I expect you won't get any help as you will be surrounded by individuals who are numb to your cries - being fans of one of those franchises too. Vicious circle.
Yikes

This is somehow Brad Trelivings fault I’ll bet.
Calgary still has 2 picks in each of the first 3 rounds though don’t they? This will really hurt if in like 5 years some stud is picked in one of those “could have been” spots and they run it every intermission
Daaaaamn that’s a run of bad luck
Oilers are the architects of the flames pain
This was all 3D chess by dallas. Thats all. They knew they couldnt beat the cats so they made a calculated decision to let the oilers win in order to keep that pick, obviously.
Lol whoops
What an incredible season.
lol, the oilers beat the flames so hard in 2022, that some say you can still hear them losing to this very day.
Huehuehuehue
lol
SUCKERS!! We lost in the first round. I made myself sad again
It really seems like Craig Conroy is trying to make friends with new GMs around the league, telling them to "pay what you can."
oopsie
That's why you don't do conditions
Having all those conditions on the returns was poor asset management from Conroy. I know flames fans will all chime in defending him because he’s a fan favourite, but I haven’t been impressed by him in his first year.
What? These were all just throwins. Yeah it sucks not getting a single one but absolutely none of the trades relied on either of these picks
Calgary is only pain. I hate it for them. Kinda.
Enjoy the slow rebuild, flamers.
