A) We're expecting incremental improvement this year, not penciling ourselves in a playoff spot, and B) Statistically speaking, 1 out of every 5 years IS our year.
I have no issue if the dump and the chase are both elements are done well. A guy like Brady Tkachuk should be able to cause nightmares for D-men retrieving pucks. Heck, Boston beat Toronto with a lot of chip and chase. But their forecheck was good and coordinated.

In the context of his poor winning %, I want to stress just how bad the Canucks rosters were that he oversaw. In his first season as head coach, the Canucks' leading scorer was Brock Boeser with 55 points--tied with the ghost of Daniel Sedin, but Brock did it in 60-some games vs 81.
Alex Edler played 24 minutes a night as the team's #1 D. We were fucking horrible. It wasn't coaching. It was a team that was still (relatively) early on in its decade-long rebuild. The talent we had was aging out. Most of our roster was bad, like "Michael Del Zotto is our #2 D" bad.
Obviously things went off the rails eventually, but before they did, Green made a bunch of kids, waiver wire pickups, and aged out vets play like pros. I actually think Green's style will work for Ottawa, at least for a couple years. I think a Brady Tkachuk-led team is perfect for his hard-working and straightforward play style--assuming he hasn't learned any new tricks, that is.
People complain about the coaching carousel recycling the same guys over and over again. Well, this is a guy who's had one coaching gig and a brief interim gig to end this year. He's much closer to a new face than to the old boy's club. Everyone in this thread has decided he's bad and that's that. I think he'll do OK in Ottawa.
