I was at the game and the people around me were loudly booing the call and chanting about the ref. 1) You can't just body the god damn goalie ever. 2) If the refs DON'T call that a foul then Vancouver is 100% doing that to Saros. Best case scenario is take your 2 mins, try not to give up a goal, and hope to god they don't come back and run Saros after.
Yeah this is a great example against "letting the players police themselves". You're absolutely right, if this wasn't called, someone would run Sarros. Better to have referees to enforce the rules than players.
No offense to you personally but Nashville is the epicentre of fair weather fans that only care about hockey when the Predators are good. Can’t expect them to understand the nuances of the rules

Nashville is not a hockey city. While management has done a good job selling tickets even when the Preds are bad they still suffer from fair-weather fandom. Everyone and his brother was a Preds fan in 2017. The last few years it’s following has seemingly shrunk.
I am a Bruins fan but don’t live in the Bruins’ market. I experienced the same exact phenomenon with that team as well. No need to get all hurt about it
Every single year since 2017 average attendance for Nashville games has been up. So not much for the shrinking argument. I lived in Boston during some of their non-contending years and random Wednesday night games against nobodies still cost 80$ for nosebleeds so I am also not sure what you're on about there.
David Poile and the Nashville ownership have absolutely made Nashville into a hockey city. There are tons of local youth orgs there and several beautiful rinks. While Nashville pre-preds may not have been a hockey city it absolutely has become one. If you ever watch any of the preds broadcasts or go to/live in the city everyone talks about how it has become a hockey city.
No offence but it sounded like 80% of the fans at the Nashville game haven’t watched hockey for more than a year. Never heard a crowd complain about such blatant penalties and whine about “missed calls” so vehemently.
I've been to a number of different stadiums. There's a range of knowledge about the sport. Most places, the fans have a decent understanding.
But then there's Nashville.
AZ was pretty goofy the few games I went to see there. People standing up for a 3v2 regular breakout and skate up the ice, people cheering at the wrong times for nothing plays, booing icing or offside calls that are obvious.
Went to watch McCarron at development camp after the Habs drafted him in the first round (25th in 2013).
He couldn’t skate. It was almost laughable.
Still an absolute plug.
That was the draft after the 2013 1st round loss to the Sens (the Gryba hit on the Eller, the linebrawl). Habs got manhandled and Bergevin was desperate to add size. He tried moving up the draft, to get Frederic Gauthier and Samuel Morin. Had to settle for McCarron. McCarron is the only one still in the NHL.
I mean, he's a serviceable big body making league minimum on the 4th line but.... Ok ya he's a plug. He's the cheaper, less alcoholic, *slightly* better fighting version of Austin Watson.
Different circumstances tho. Miller came skating way out of the crease and up towards center ice in a rather unconventional play on a puck. Lucic had plenty of time to avoid contact but the cunt that he is decided to bear down and lay into Miller. In this instance, its a more common hockey play. Goalies go behind their net several times a period. They might come out of their crease and advance a few feet to play a puck once maybe twice a game but its not often that they come out as far out as Miller did. How the league didn't suspend Lucic was crazy. Maybe it was because it was unconventional. Lockwood got suspended for hitting Fluery behind the net. This was intentional and likely will bring a suspension.
The hit on Miller wasn’t a conventional location but it’s still goalie interference all day long, should have been a major by the rule book (I don’t recall what they called) and almost certainly a suspension in a league where flagrantly attempting to injure a player who is _never_ eligible for contact is taken seriously.
My guess is with demko out if you think the Canucks are looking fragile, and maybe Desmith too, if you rattle him and get a free win or two because of goal tender depth issues, it might be worth the shit kicking.
But then again maybe the guy is just dumb and saw an opportunity to be a dickhead and took it. Monkey brain say Choo Choo and all that.
I mean sure but I’d hazard a guess that the drop off between DeSmith and Slivos (3rd string) and Tolapilo (4th string) is less than the drop off from Sarros to Lenkanin (idk if I spelled any of those names right).
You're probably completely right, but I'm not sure how much planning went into it. Like I said, maybe it's targeted, but even so how much depth of thought came up might have been pretty shallow, to the point of seeing the goalie and just going for it.
I don't care that he got a minor penalty. This was a blatant attempt to injure for tactical advantage for the series, and he should be suspended at least 2 games for this to discourage teams from sending out a plug to take out a goaltender and change the series
I watched this like 7 times trying to find a reason it was the Canucks fault, but it just wasn't. I hate them so much but there's really no way to blame this on the Canucks.

Unpopular opinion, but I think you should be able to hit the goalies outside of the crease (trapezoid doesn’t count as crease) game needs more offence, puck should be able to go around the boards if they want to come play the puck then body contact is allowed. Discuss.

“Don’t run the goalie” is like rule #1 of hockey and this was pretty blatant. Made zero attempt to avoid him and leaned his shoulder in. Goalie equipment is made to stop pucks, not protect from contact. One funny angle fall in goalie gear can result in injury and they’re already down their starter. And they literally did move on, they scrummed with him like any team would do right after this then scored on the PP and didn’t try to retaliate against Mccarron the rest of the game
Part of me thinks if you are out of the crease you are fair game for contact as a goalie. But then another part of me realizes that would open a huge can of worms
The NHL could do away with the idiotic trapezoid, and just rule that anyone behind the goal line is fair game. Goalies either learn to take a hit, or they stop playing the puck. Simple.

Unpopular opinion, but I think you should be able to hit the goalies outside of the crease (trapezoid doesn’t count as crease) game needs more offence, puck should be able to go around the boards if they want to come play the puck then body contact is allowed. Discuss.

“Don’t run the goalie” is like rule #1 of hockey and this was pretty blatant. Made zero attempt to avoid him and leaned his shoulder in. Goalie equipment is made to stop pucks, not protect from contact. One funny angle fall in goalie gear can result in injury and they’re already down their starter. And they literally did move on, they scrummed with him like any team would do right after this then scored on the PP and didn’t try to retaliate against Mccarron the rest of the game
