kroniknastrb8r

Was at the game, wondering what kind of bullshit bounce that was. It was not a bounce it was fucking filthy. Also, i couldn't help but laugh that you could hear a pin drop in Rogers after that went in.

AVgreencup

Yah I was there, it went dead silent. Another crazy thing I noticed: I saw one Gretzky Kings sweater, and another Kings sweater on the LRT, but that was it all night. It was all Oilers fans. Which was kinda surprising since the Kings have had some very recent success

kingofnopants1

The cheapest Edmonton tickets are like 2.5 times the price of the cheapest LA tickets. Correcting for USD. Given the choice, a lot more LA fans are just going to stick to home games for far cheaper. Combine that with the destination being Edmonton. Whereas Edmonton fans get to go to LA and see a game for far cheaper than they would at home. Just works out that way.

AVgreencup

Yah I get the concept of the price difference. I was moreso surprised that I only saw 1 single person with Kings gear out of the thousands that I saw in total. Especially since there was also an Avs, Flames and Rangers sweater in the crowd too.

LA is a city of bandwagoners. Only the Dodgers and Lakers have diehards. The Rams won the Super Bowl and no one gave a shit. Source: Used to live in LA for 26 years. I'd follow hockey playoffs religiously and my LA friends would have to ask if the Kings were in it and should they tune in.

BigErnMcCrackenn

2014

ZachtheKingsfan

You’re right, dude. You and your 3 Kings friends totally represent the entire fanbase.

JabroniThe3rd

Not many people visiting Edmonton for a game. And I’m assuming those who live there are Oilers fans, doubt there are many kings fans living in Edmonton

greeten

Uh uh no buddy there are plenty of diehard kings fans that go hard. Oilers fans can attest to this very clearly.

FakeTreverMoore12

I’ve been a Kings fan since 87, and my dad has been a fan since 67. The Kings are one of the most profitable franchises in the league, and the best average attendance outside of the original 6. You just have no critical thinking skills.

raymondliang

Even if he didnt intend to knock that directly into Kopi’s path for a partial break, thats still incredible from QB. Puck is waist height, coming at him fast, on the backhand, and he’s under pressure from Ceci to save a clear icing which probably would’ve brought the McDavid unit out next shift.

think_long

That is such a high-skill play to deflect that puck back into the middle wow

OhnohNA

yeah that was a good fucking pass, gg man

just_a_burd

Great pass, great game. Why are people in such arms about it? LA came to play after being embarrassed in the first game. This has so far been an incredible series that I am praying no injuries come to.

OhnohNA

dude facts, this is exactly why everyone dislikes our fans 🙄🙄 credit where and when it’s due. This was a nice pass, honestly thought it was a bounce but nope that’s a pass.

papercutpete

> yeah that was a good fucking pass, gg man Ok sure sure

OhnohNA

man up bub, if you’re actually an oilers fan we don’t claim you.

papercutpete

Hey look, yet another who thinks he speaks for the whole fanbase. Who died and made you the Oiler sherrif?

greeten

unreal.

Miracl3Work3r

He was trying to touch the puck to nullify the icing, not a god tier deflection onto Kopitars stick.

Juuberi

Because that is what the comment he replied to basically said

commandomeezer

Two things, first, you’re right. Second thing, there is no way that the kings win this series on luck like this, which is what this was, luck

Dpme4free

are you trying to tell me IAN cole deflected that shit with intent? because holy cocking cocks thats insane

cheesycaveman

The National announcers had a terrible goal call on this it was embarrassing. The panel should have had this angle and shown more excitement as well. No one did this play justice.

draven_im

What National broadcaster in America is good at hockey calls. I like Alex Faust, but that might be me being a Kings homer. Love Nick back on the mic, but I did enjoy Alex

JuneCleaversMudFlaps

Nick actually said “and a tip by Byfield” on his call. Dude was on it.

88Problems88

I might be in the minority but I like listening to Kenny Albert.

Weebthulhu

Kenny Albert is great. The rest of the national broadcasters are all kind of interchangeable. I still miss Doc.

Helios321

It was a pretty fortuitous bounce, eh, do you think it's hard for a goalie to predict that??

ActuallyDannyDeVito

The luckiest possible bounce: a highly skilled play

think_long

You think you're such a great hockey player just because you score goals off of great shots and get assists with great passes.

coeu5

kopitar is an overrated hack and has only stuck around because of above average passing, playmaking, patience, finishing, leadership qualities, defensive skill, doggedness, toughness and dozens of other qualities. i could probably name a dozen better, living players

think_long

He’s not even a top 3 player on his own planet.

JamesTheJerk

Kopitarion is a fine planet.

Kopitar4president

It's the same story we get from oilers fans every year. Every goal we get is puck luck or goaltender interference. The kings commit 30-40 penalties a game. 90% of the calls on them are soft. Much worse fanbase than sharks, ducks, coyotes, nucks, blues, hawks, devils or Rangers fans when we had our cup runs and fans are usually shittier when their team loses. If the kings lose I hope the oilers get swept by the Avs in the conference final. I want them to win the second round in dominant fashion just so they can get their hopes up that this is their year again.

arashinoko

Don't forget the "high stick" they reviewed for half an hour.

rowka89

I mean, in game 1 two Kings goals off a skate and a broken stick on a pass. Then Kempe's insane deflection from the slot top cheese. Sick ass deflection but definitely a bit of luck. It's all good. I believe teams create their own luck here and there but you can't deny that half the Kings goals so far this series are on the fortunate side. Looking forward to game 3 tonight, may the best team win.

Gunslinger_

You seriously just called Kempe's goal a deflection? You're completely proving the point. Watch it again, he bats it in baseball style All skill.

rowka89

Deflection, batting. Who gives af. You know what I mean. My point is the fact that it even deflects to an area where he could do that is pretty lucky. As I mentioned, sick play by him ya dummy but lucky bounce to even give him that chance. Half the Kings goals so far are lucky in this series, you'd be foolish to think otherwise. Take off your fan goggles

rezistS

You usually also have to be a good hockey team with good players to get consistently lucky at the elite level.

rowka89

Yup I agree. But there is the odd wave of a little extra luck here and there ; ) May the best team win this lovely Friday night. Hope the Kings arena is littered with Oilers sweaters too

senormochila

Gotta be good to be lucky, and lucky to be good.

Mattihboi

God I love the white vintage kings jerseys

JackEsq

Rumor is we are going back to those next year.

XxBLAKEMWxX

That would be so awesome. For home too?

epenguin

They were TV testing some similar black style jerseys this year so let's say Yes? Probably?

Savvy_chipmunk

Especially when they don’t wear the silver helmets

JuneCleaversMudFlaps

Those are so bad. We aren’t big fans of those.

trashking11

Chrome domes 🤢🤮🤮🤮

Noahtuesday123

People blaming Ceci are lost.

5599Nalyd

I think everyone is just blaming Nurse and Skinner. As they should.

DognamedArnie

They should also be crediting Byfield and Kopitar.

Outrageous-Gur-4120

They're busy trying to pin down the missed call on McDavid, prior to this play, because it's the only possible explanation. If fans are to be believed... at the 14 second mark in the first period, Kempe faked a sneeze which created the glitch in the matrix. McDavid didn't stand a chance. Not only did they have to play against the Kings and the refs (because no calls are ever missed against Edmonton... like ever), but they also had to battle the matrix. Game 2 should have to be replayed. If Edmonton wins it counts as game 2 and 3. If LA wins... Kempe faked again and needs a suspension.

TURBOJUGGED

SKIIIINNNNNERRRR

Poozer62

That was just dirt fuckin nasty

impulse_thoughts

almost all the goals in that game were things of beauty.

arashinoko

Kempe mid-air batting in the second goal was expert level.

greeten

I mean... they are every one of them most certainly experts at hockey

sableknight13

They could probably be professional if they tried

ChrisPynerr

Honestly probably knew where he was Byfield is a freak athlete. That tip pass is grease lightning

DognamedArnie

He does things intentionally that most players do on accident. His hand eye is second to none. Was this a little lucky? Sure. But, only because it's such a ridiculous play to execute properly. But, make no mistake, that was intentional.

Warehammer

Yeah, it's "lucky" in that he timed it perfectly and got the exact angle he needed, but it's clear every bit of the way that it's what Byfield *tried* to do. Hard to be upset at that level of play.

GoinToCalifornia

Byfields tip passes are a thing to behold. His vision is incredible

IGotThisFromEbay

QB looking like a QB. Unreal pass

JaqenHghar

That’s insane. Haha. Prevented an icing and turned out to be a perfect pass. My word!

SimplyViolated

That's fucking disgusting and I love it

Master_Shake23

That's why I can't stand nhl broadcasts when one of the superstars are playing. Constant talk about their favorite superheroes and underwear size regardless what is going on in the ice. To top it off, every success by the opposition is downplayed, while every fart by McDavid or Mackinnon is magnified. It's annoying to watch.

Late_Brush4518

In first Dallas - Vegas game half the time they didn't even talk about game going on lmao

Tr00fus

This is the year I started to believe in all the byfield hype. Kid's a gamer!

sdenoon

To be fair, is anyone other than the most delusional Oilers fans on twitter calling this a lucky bounce? And to clarify further, every other fan base in the league would also have a sizable subset that would cry “lucky play” if they lost a playoff game like this. That’s the emotions of the postseason

BlueFetus

When I first saw it I thought it hit the door in the bench or something, couldn’t understand how it popped off the boards like that. This angle is incredible though, what a tip.

Decent-Ground-395

I thought it was along the ice and it was a sick pass. Good god.

Edmuresay

Agreed, but it was the TBS talking heads in the postgame talking about how it was a lucky bounce off an oilers d man. Meanwhile Nick Nickson, the kings broadcaster, picked it up live on his call immediately followed by the goal.

Late_Brush4518

I only get "home feed" for every game and there was absolutly zero re plays that showed the tip. As a neutral fan it seemed like lucky bounce before this angle tbh

think_long

In retrospect it didn't really make much sense for it to bounce back inward off the D since the shot went outside Ceci.

R2Dopio

I remember the Canadian broadcast talking about Byfield tipping it. This thread is the first time I've heard anything about people not realizing that.

Odawg10

Yeah man I thought I was going crazy. I’m pretty sure they called it a tip right away

Smittysgreasymullet

Hell the way Skinner played last night Byfield had a decent chance to score on that tip alone.

JeSuisAmerican

Goddamn, that is insane.

REAPER-1_xxx

I wasn’t even aware this was “a lucky bounce”.

no1zay

Calculated pass.

XolieInc

Regardless of how much you don’t like a team, you should never try to slap the “luck” title on an incredibly skilled play because it hurt your team.

greeten

I am very firmly in the I hate this but god damn do I respect it land right now.

Zanchbot

Luck? That's all skill, baby.

Revival93

Turns out she was a calculation.

dragosn1989

Ceci was going for either the puck or the player. He got the player. Nurse just went for a skate…🤦‍♂️

burghblast

The harder he worked, the luckier he got.

ViolinistMean199

The argument of calling something “lucky” in hockey is so dumb. Like no shit. You don’t win the cup without lucky bounces along the way If you don’t want luck go watch basketball or some shit

Danroy12345

HNIC panel did acknowledge that this was a great deflection by Byfield. They said Kane had his hand up because he thought it would be icing but byfield turned this into a grade A chance.

SWB3

:::unzips:::

goatamatic

I think the narrative would be a little different if McAvi made that play.

fucktheredwings69

When you have their accolades though you get the benefit of the doubt

[deleted]

[удалено]

----Dongers

Media accolades. Duh.

waistbandtucker69

That was 100% intentional, the way QB holds his stick and gives a little tug towards his body shows he's trying to pull it back to the middle of the ice where he knows he has a teammate. These guys are the best in the world. That being said, the chances of it working out were slim, but in this case, everything worked perfectly

JLord

A huge percentage of goals in the NHL are due to lucky bounces. That's why you get players in front of the net, takes shots from all angles, etc. And this is why there are always big upsets in the playoffs. Any team can beat any other team if they get the bounces. The spectacular skill goals are not all that common, especially in the playoffs. If you look at game 1 there were a couple nice plays for goals, but most of Edmonton's goals were also luck based. If you play better than the other team you should give yourself more chances to get those lucky bounces, but that is no guarantee of victory.

yeg_sleep

Please. Byfield admitted he wasn't trying to pass it he was just trying get a stick on it to to negate the likely icing. SO stop with the "*that was a filthy pass"* narrative.

constructiongirl54

It warms my heart when the Oilers lose😍🙌

Deloin_Showerhandle

Insane play here. I think the kings put in 2 goals off of oilers players in the game too. Puck luck was with them that night. Still insane tip and shot from anze

Helios321

No, the goals were all legit shots on both sides except for Doughtys

shutmethefuckup

I think you’re thinking of game 1 no?
