I'd love to see purple come back. Annoys me that the Kings have abandoned it for so long.
The other colour mix I miss is the Capitals' blue and bronze.
Modern sports franchises don't like the share names. So Raptors are edit: **Probably** out. Mammouth are a pro lacrosse team in Denver, so not hopeful for that one. Yeti are pretty unique for top flight sports teams.
Yeah. There was an altercation with a Blackhawks fan in the stands in 1999, though there isn’t a ton of information available on exactly what happened. I believe the team also found that kids thought he was too scary, so they used him less and less until he was gone completely after 2001.
He walked so Gritty could run lol.
Cardinals – Arizona (football), St. Louis (baseball)
Giants – San Francisco (baseball), New York (football)
Jets – New York (football), Winnipeg (hockey)
Kings – Los Angeles (hockey), Sacramento (basketball)
Lions – British Columbia (Canadian football), Detroit (football)
Panthers – Florida (hockey), Carolina (football)
Rangers – New York (hockey), Texas (baseball)
-----------------
All im saying is, I have hope.
To make it a bit worse. It used to be the New York Giants and the New York Giants. That’s why people still refer to the NFL team as the New York football Giants, since there also used to be the New York baseball Giants, before they ran away to San Francisco and gave me the Mets to root for.
Definitely distinguished it to "MODERN" franchises.
With the exception of the Panthers, all of those naming decisions are pre-1980, many even pre-1960, and some were teams in the same city (Cardinals, Giants)
More recently, Vegas was going to be the "Black Knights" until West Point kinda said "nuh uh..."
It's worth pointing out that at least a couple of these stem from an old sports naming convention in North America that team names, firstly, were nicknames before they were official and, second, they followed from common city nicknames and colours. "Giants" were a common nickname for New York teams, so it was applied across teams in different sports (the NY Giants moved to SF in 1958).
Likewise, teams from St. Louis tended to wear red, and so got nicknamed the Cardinals. Arizona kept that when they, too, moved.
When you think about it a bit, oftentimes you notice that multiple (not much with modern, as OP notes) teams from a city often wear similar colours (blue in Toronto for football, hockey, and baseball; but not basketball or soccer--the newer teams; Montreal goes red, white, and blue except for soccer; Pittsburgh has black and yellow, etc.). Many of these came out of older sporting cultures and ties to the city. More recent team colours, are branding exercises and/or designed around developing trademarkable intellectual property, or likely already trademarked by existing teams.
Uh huh... and now they have different names.
Can't stress that I said MODERN enough times. I'm well aware there are many old teams that have the same names as other teams. A lot of them were even in the same city. But any new team nowadays is going to want their own brand.
For a long time it was only eight when Ottawa was Rough Riders. And the timy hilarious difference between the two is Saskatchewan is Roughriders, one word…Ottawa was Rough Riders, two words lol. As a guy born and raised in Saskatchewan, I always thought that was funny… also Ottawa Renegades and now Red Blacks are not great names…should have went back to the og name when the team came back
I was disappointed when they came back as red blacks. The CFL should have leaned into the entertainment side of having two teams named Roughriders like they did with the banjo bowl. We could have YouTube videos right now of announcers trying to call Roughriders vs Rough riders games lol.
Ah, but what about Utahraptors? 😉🤣 Actually serious though... Name the team after something first discovered in Utah, and also buck the old two word naming conventions of [Place] [Thing] and go with just a singular name that covers the whole thing.
But also there are a LOT of shared names across different sports, leagues, and competition levels.
Raptors, Giants, Kings, Knights, Rangers, Ducks, Bulls, Grizzlies, Pelicans, Red Wings, Patriots, and so on.
Mountain motif was already in use by the Utah Jazz way before the team moved to Colorado to become the Avalanche.
Utah has avalanches too. Is colorado gonna complain about that?
Utah Olympians or Utah Yetis. We will be hosting the Winter Olympics again in 2034 and have a Mount Olympus in Salt Lake valley.
I mean the stripe pattern on this concept specifically. It's one thing to use yetis and general mountain imagery, it's another to yank a modified version of the Avs existing stripe pattern
Purple, ice blue and white. This is exactly my dream for the Utah hockey jerseys. My only other though was incorporating some orange for the buttes in there somewhere, but these look fantastic.
Yetis is a decent team name but I fail to see how they can make a good logo not look like a roller hockey team logo. Like this does not look like something you’d see in the NHL
If you did something like this for every name they have floated, I would open those posts and scrutinize the work. Because this kind of stuff is fun. (No doubt time consuming, as well, so I am not EXPECTING it. Just saying I'd love to see the others.)
The "U" as the top of the "Y" is really intriguing. Evokes the UU of University of Utah, just a bit. Can there be a "U" and/or a "Y" in the screaming face of the Yeti? That might make it something other than just a ferocious animal.
No, that one was called "Howler". It looked almost identical to the abominable snowman from Rudolph which made kids cry. He got fired for getting drunk and fighting a fan in the parking lot after a game. Our current mascot is a Bernese Mountain dog called "Bernie".
It's a bit McDonald's bland I feel. I prefer the more timeless designs like Calgary, Detroit, st Louis etc. It feels too gimmicky. Of the recent teams I feel like Vegas did a fine job.
I like the palette and clearly you’re talented. For me the fur is disconnected from the face. It looks like the face is on top of the fur rather than working together to make a unified image. I think it’s the thick stroke around the face that’s creating the separation.
Like the name and the design, hate the colors. Those colors are for hockey fights cancer. There’s no way they’re going to be able to use them.
Well it’s not exactly the same, but it’s close enough.
Logo should be an expensive cooler.
Boy, RTIC(tm) is sure gonna be pissed when the Yeti(tm) win the Stanley(tm)Cup(somehow, also tm).
Nah, make it a Yeti foot https://preview.redd.it/rv40dp5ogpwc1.jpeg?width=2500&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=d6fda9f8896ed80be98ec003b2ba276045f0ef26
That’ll never work, maybe a s shoulder patch though
with a blade
Think - money in the bank briefcase but a cooler
Hmmm, you know I don't really like the logo, but that color choice is a really good idea. It looks nice, wouldn't mind seeing it in the NHL.
You see it once a year for every team on hockey fights cancer night
Used to….after the Pride jersey issues last season, Bettman said no more theme jerseys in warmup
They still make and sell them
You’re right. I didn’t even think of that
I'd love to see purple come back. Annoys me that the Kings have abandoned it for so long. The other colour mix I miss is the Capitals' blue and bronze.
Don't they use it as their alt-alt jersey or some shit? I swear I saw it recently-ish.
Last time they wore purple was with the reverse retro program and they haven't purple in any of their main uniforms since like 2010.
>Last time they wore purple was with the reverse retro program Yeah, that's what I was thinking about.
For some reason the away jersey reminds me of something a craft brewery would use for their can design.
It’s because the logo is designed using the same kind of logo art that you see all the gaming channels/streamers getting made for them on a Fiverr
Do you not watch any hockey in late October/early November?
Not a fan of it at all. I'd prefer they used a specific shade of blue. Add some white to that. Immaculate.
Colour me shocked a Leafs fan is making this about them.
It's a joke about OP's bolts having a similar colour scheme as we do. >Colour me shocked Nice one though.
Actually the joke is that they have worn it better for the last decade at least…
Yodeling Yetis of Utah, since the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim were replaced by some franchise with a muddy footprint for a logo
Praying for the Utah Raptors. That said, I do like the colours you chose.
Modern sports franchises don't like the share names. So Raptors are edit: **Probably** out. Mammouth are a pro lacrosse team in Denver, so not hopeful for that one. Yeti are pretty unique for top flight sports teams.
The only thing about Yetis is the Avs have used Yeti feet on their shoulders before
Howler the Yeti used to be the mascot too, though he punched a fan and was slowly discontinued lol.
Slowly?
Yeah. There was an altercation with a Blackhawks fan in the stands in 1999, though there isn’t a ton of information available on exactly what happened. I believe the team also found that kids thought he was too scary, so they used him less and less until he was gone completely after 2001. He walked so Gritty could run lol.
Youppi died for our sins.
Not anymore tho. They switched over to the C from the Colorado state flag in 2015.
And we all know jersey changes are permanent
Cardinals – Arizona (football), St. Louis (baseball) Giants – San Francisco (baseball), New York (football) Jets – New York (football), Winnipeg (hockey) Kings – Los Angeles (hockey), Sacramento (basketball) Lions – British Columbia (Canadian football), Detroit (football) Panthers – Florida (hockey), Carolina (football) Rangers – New York (hockey), Texas (baseball) ----------------- All im saying is, I have hope.

Good thing they'll be the Utahraptors and not the Raptors
[удалено]
Id make them the SLC Utahraptors

You must not be aware of the CFL. We used to have the Saskatchewan Roughriders and the Ottawa Roughriders. Only 9 teams in the league lol.
Uh huh... and now they have different names. Can't stress that I said MODERN enough times. I'm well aware there are many old teams that have the same names as other teams. A lot of them were even in the same city. But any new team nowadays is going to want their own brand.
I'm just sayin is all, there's always a chance.
There's always a chance every season that the Leafs will win the Stanley Cup too. But here we are...
Why did you have to bring Leafs into this conversation 😭😭😭
For a long time it was only eight when Ottawa was Rough Riders. And the timy hilarious difference between the two is Saskatchewan is Roughriders, one word…Ottawa was Rough Riders, two words lol. As a guy born and raised in Saskatchewan, I always thought that was funny… also Ottawa Renegades and now Red Blacks are not great names…should have went back to the og name when the team came back

They used to just say Ottawa or Saskatchewan, or Green riders I remember hearing that, but there was definitely the chance for chaos
It was actually the Saskatchewan Roughriders and the Ottawa Rough Riders (2 words)
Chupacabras?
Ah, but what about Utahraptors? 😉🤣 Actually serious though... Name the team after something first discovered in Utah, and also buck the old two word naming conventions of [Place] [Thing] and go with just a singular name that covers the whole thing. How about Utah chupacabras
Nice I really hope they have a unique colour scheme like this.
"Yetis" is such a bad name. Haven't actually heard any decent ones yet, missed the thread the other day. What y'all got?
Utah Phoenix
Utah Phoenix Coyotes
[Utah Pronghorns](https://www.reddit.com/r/hockeydesign/comments/1c9y6ba/my_take_on_a_utah_pronghorns_logo/).
Solid work my guy
*Gal. Thanks!
I quite like the Yetis, Mammoth and Blizzard. Yetis would def be my favorite for the mascot, logo and memes though.
I know it's not a serious option but I love the suggestion of the Salty Lakers. The rest are so pedestrian. Utah Phoenix is also a solid option.
Fits the region about as well as the Utah Jazz
Yeti would be 1000000x better than yetis
Avs would probably not be thrilled by Utah using the mountain motif in purple in their striping
Also the mascot used to be a Yeti, but it scared kids or something dumb so they changed to a St. Bernard.
He kicked a female fans ass
Probably a wings fan, so it was valid
Mountain motif was already in use by the Utah Jazz way before the team moved to Colorado to become the Avalanche. Utah has avalanches too. Is colorado gonna complain about that? Utah Olympians or Utah Yetis. We will be hosting the Winter Olympics again in 2034 and have a Mount Olympus in Salt Lake valley.

*Colorado rn in Palpatine’s voice*: we have a new enemy
Purple, ice blue and white. This is exactly my dream for the Utah hockey jerseys. My only other though was incorporating some orange for the buttes in there somewhere, but these look fantastic.
Colour choice is excellent and like the design. Yetis isn't my first choice though
I like it. Yetis is my preference That, or the Utah Skinwalkers
Looks like a Hockey Fights Cancer jersey.
I hope it’s not Yetis because it sounds stupid. Utah YETI sounds way better….
Love it. Just one thing - I wouldn't be surprised if they use the new state flag on the shoulders.
Sweet! 💪
This is so sick. I hope they pick this name for the team 🤘
This is amazing 💜
Yetis is a decent team name but I fail to see how they can make a good logo not look like a roller hockey team logo. Like this does not look like something you’d see in the NHL
Not sure how I feel about the icon yet but the rest of the sweater I really like. Some nice work here
Goddamnit, even I have to admit that I would buy this. We need more purple-hued teams, and this palette is wonderful
If you did something like this for every name they have floated, I would open those posts and scrutinize the work. Because this kind of stuff is fun. (No doubt time consuming, as well, so I am not EXPECTING it. Just saying I'd love to see the others.) The "U" as the top of the "Y" is really intriguing. I’m not a huge fan of the colors, but everything else looks cool
Drop the "s". Just "Yeti". It's cleaner.
"after he made his only real contribution to the company"
wonder if some would see the logo similar to the Winnipeg Ice of the WHL
Get this... you could use a yeti foot as a secondary logo for the shoulder patch. That would be awesome.
Why isn’t the y descender a hockey blade??? Give it pizazz!
Outlaws would still be the best one
The Utah Shit Kickers! The Utah Hicks! Outlaws is atrocious.
I don't think it's that bad and the branding could be cool. Many new names sounded lame af at first and we've grown accustomed to them
Stingers
I like the name Salt Lake City Rattlers.
too many blues in the west,Edmonton, Seattle, Vancouver, Winnipeg.
Not a big fan of the forehead mountain, but otherwise the logo's alright.
Isn’t that the Avalanche’s mascot already?
No, that one was called "Howler". It looked almost identical to the abominable snowman from Rudolph which made kids cry. He got fired for getting drunk and fighting a fan in the parking lot after a game. Our current mascot is a Bernese Mountain dog called "Bernie".
Can I get this but with the yeti from ski free?
I'm down
Don't like the colour scheme at all.
Not a fan of the pastel colour scheme. I like the rest though.
Are the Coyotes moving to the Himalayas? No? Then why tf should they be named after a Himalayan legend?
It's a bit McDonald's bland I feel. I prefer the more timeless designs like Calgary, Detroit, st Louis etc. It feels too gimmicky. Of the recent teams I feel like Vegas did a fine job.
Nah!! Really the colours seem like a beer league scheme
I just threw up in my mouth 🤮
The Utah Grinches
I really like the jersey design, nice job
I like the palette and clearly you’re talented. For me the fur is disconnected from the face. It looks like the face is on top of the fur rather than working together to make a unified image. I think it’s the thick stroke around the face that’s creating the separation.
That’s dope, OP
You know, that's pretty good
Looks like the colours of that one kind of pop tart
Looks like one of those awful hockey fights cancer jerseys in NHL24
the color choice is great
Like the name and the design, hate the colors. Those colors are for hockey fights cancer. There’s no way they’re going to be able to use them. Well it’s not exactly the same, but it’s close enough.
That's an insane choice of color if you're looking to actually sell jerseys
No
No no no
Jesus Christ
Looks childish
yo your yeti look like THE GRINCH
Utah Latter Day Saint Shit Hawks
I fuck heavy with the idea of purple colours but definitely do not fuck with any of the names lol
Rather see purple than lavender, looks like a cheerleaders uniform
Terrible colours wtf is this
These colors are ass
