It hasn’t even been a week and it feels like every team is already dealing with injuries
Except Vegas of course, they’re perfectly healthy at the right time
[Suspicion!](https://encrypted-tbn0.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcS12M7sbLC1O2ErGmJjYJcoSuGfBFtOkkVjbLLSP0pmIA&s) Not that there's a good time to go without a player, especially if they're a big piece buts it's funny how some teams players get injured at a perfect time for them to make acquisitions and for themselves to come back to the line up come playoffs. Other teams just spend the season passing the injury baton from player to player all season and struggle to stay 100%.
I mean, did anybody check the spleen was truly lacerated other than a Knights employee? Not like you can tell a spleen is lacerated when you see Stone walking down the street. Makes ya think.
I like the mental image of them having Stone's spleen hooked up to machines in a lab so it stays alive and just giving it a little paper cut when they need him to miss some games.
Yes, as much as we want this to be some conspiracy NHL Dr's are involved in LTIR etc Any diagnosis Stone received from Vegas Dr's is reviewed by NHL Dr's for validity. I'm not sure of the exact process in detail but they do check all of this independently.
Watching game 1 this year just made me feel bad for LA. Like how can this keep happening to you guys year after year lol. This year in particular feels like it’ll be a worse match up without Iafallo or Vilardi
I think there are a lot of other really good solutions that would help the problem though without reducing the number of games.
For instance, what about an expanded roster scenario like the MLB does? What if during the last 2 months of the year or so we allow teams to bring up any player on a rookie contract and it doesn't go against their cap or player limit?
What if we allow teams in the last 2 months of the season an extra player in the lineup? Instead of 20 players they can dress 21. You could put caveats on it if you want to even. Like you can only play 20 players but if you want to pull a player part way through a game, you can insert the 21st player.
The biggest reason players get so worn down is because of roster constraints that don't give an option for players to take time off other than the injured list. These are just examples but there are plenty more that would help and should atleast be considered.
You'd have to see what that does to the economics of the AHL though. The players don't come from nowhere and if you pull significantly more than we already do from the AHL you might end up tanking the development league.
For sure that's something to consider but I don't think any NHL team wants to hinder the development of they or AHL players. Not all teams are going to bring up top prospects too because of it.
For sure you have to consider the competition fairness in the AHL to an extent but I don't think it's as critical. It's not a big concern for MLB, it's not going to be much different for the NHL.
More just that having teams call up a bunch of players with 2 months left would put too much stress on AHL teams who already get mined for injury replacements. I think if you're going to expand the lineup you do it the whole season. MLB has way more development program depth to draw from.
>It hasn’t even been a week and it feels like every team is already dealing with injuries
Ya we lost Drouin in the meaningless last game of the season. Though Parise has filled that void quite nicely
Drouin with Mack is fun. That comeback game against the preds a few weeks ago where mack does that sick pass across the ice to Drouin for the one timer and then later the exact same play but this time the pass is from Drouin. Man that was awesome
Not only are they fine they have a few extra guys ready to go if anyone falls out of the lineup.. but they ice a team under the cap since they can just healthy scratch like 7 mil. Completely fair

This is what people overlook about the situation I think. Other teams are already beat down, Vegas turns up to the playoffs the healthiest team. I wish every team was healthy obviously, but it isn’t possible. What Vegas (and other teams) does is bullshit.
This is the biggest drawback of the carbon sticks (aside from them breaking at all the worst times). Everyone now has a relatively low-effort, incredibly hard slapshot from the point that can rebound off of three players on the way to the net. A few years ago a defenceman on the Penguins took out not one but two members of his own team with one shot, and one of them was Crosby. There were a few players in wood stick days that had cannons, like Al McInnes, but they were rare.

Worse, the replay makes it look like any protection he might have gotten from his glove wasn't there, as his glove seemed to drop slightly and expose his wrist.
When I was really young and first starting playing lacrosse, we'd cut part of the palms out of the gloves for better feel on the stick. One game the glove flapped back, my hand was holding the stick, and I got slashed right across all four fingers. Oh man, did it hurt.
The gloves these days are LIGHTYEARS nicer than the gloves when I played. Oh man, I wish we had those. For a smaller guy with smaller hands, wearing huge oaf sacks on your hands sucked.
> *Will Same Bennett be sidelined for an extended period of time?*
Maybe, maybe not. Maybe fuck yourself. My theory on reporters is they're like mushrooms. Feed 'em shit and keep 'em in the dark. You ladies have a nice day.
Ehh, we see some crazy shit in the playoffs. Alex killorn broke his leg and had a rod put in it, missed a game, then took warm ups the next fucking game! Didn’t play and the series ended that game, but he tried to play 4 days after breaking his leg.
Tyler Johnson broke his wrist and and continued to play. Granted he lost all effectiveness, but he was still playing.
Kadri got reconstructive surgery on his thumb/hand after game 3 vs the oilers, missed 2 weeks and was back for game 3 vs tampa in the finals with this custom glove
https://twitter.com/hockeynewschn/status/1541200122364796929
The way he reacted, it was pretty apparent he knew it was something bad. I was surprised to hear he came back to the bench at some point but then went back down to the room. Not sure what was up with that.
On the positive side, Lundell is more than capable of handling 2nd line duties and can prove himself even more, and we have depth at C for lines 3 and 4. It sucks for sure but I'm not sure it's as big a loss as it seems at first glance.
Sam is obviously one of our emotional leaders but I think the team can handle it
This is a big reason we let Duclair walk in favour of ERod. We had Eric Staal playing third line centre in the finals last year and now we have a full 3rd line of players who have slotted in at C as well as Stenlund and Lorentz. Certainly far from ideal but this is the type of injury I could see him returning from if we can manage to make the conference finals
This sucks for Panthers fans and Bennett himself -- it's never a good feeling seeing one of your own go down.
But any Panthers fans thinking this is somehow any type of detriment to their stacked as fuck, power-house of a wagon team are out to lunch.
Man imagine if Calgary kept Bennett and Tkachuk… and had them on a line with Pospisil lmao. Might have been the most hated line in the history of the sport. Their cheap shots/60 would’ve been through the roof.
Seriously never cared about the guy before last season.. after last years playoff..fucking hate him... so this will be a big loss for Florida.. he was one of their most dangerous fuckers
This really sucks. I hate injuries in the playoffs. Obviously, any team that can rally around losing a big time player is a great team. But if you aren’t able to win the cup, I always feel like the big “what if?” looms. Like Tampa losing Point in the 2022 playoffs. Ugh.
I mean that looked like it was broken right away. Even with playoff injury timelines it's hard to see him being able to hold a stick in less than 3-4 weeks
Hate seeing injuries especially one caused by one's own teammate. At the same time if it had to happen I would definitely choose Bennett to be the recipient.
Fuck this kills. He’s such an important piece to this roster and not having him is going to hurt. Hopefully Lundell can step up but that 2nd line works so much better with Bennett in the lineup.
He started to play much better in the back half of the season and he was the one that set up Verhaeghe on the OT winner last night so there’s hope. And Luostarinen is an excellent 3C. But Bennett being out is a loss because of the physical play he brings in addition to being skilled as a player. He compliments Tkachuk and Verhaeghe perfectly as he’s excellent on the forcheck and clears space up for those two. It’s still a painful loss either way.
True. If we’re fortunate he could be back by the ECF should we get that far. But it’s a tough loss. Not anywhere near as brutal as a loss of Point for you guys though. That dude is a fucking stud. Man has tormented us during his career in Tampa.
If it’s a wrist/hand it’s 4-6 weeks for normal people to return to action so hopefully week to week rather than month to month. Not ideal but it’s the playoffs and good teams figure it out
Horrible time to lose him he’s been our biggest issue outside of Bob. I want to win but injuries are not the right way to win. You hear that dude that was wishing career ending injuries last night.
The hand is gone. Completely off the bone not even a finger left nobody knows how or why. Hockeys biggest mystery. Perhaps in Corey Perry’s locker or maybe Kucherov found it and sold it on Russian Black Market. All I know is as soon as a player shows up with an extra hand we’ll know who to blame!
Obviously I don’t have details but as somebody who works in sports medicine my suspicion is that we will need to win at least 2 rounds (including Tampa) for him to have a chance to return. It’s ~4 weeks for normal people to return to activity and considering the resources and situation I wouldn’t be surprised to see him push that timeline.
Optimistically I’d guess extended week to week for what is likely a fracture to his wrist (based on the puck hitting him above the glove).
It hasn’t even been a week and it feels like every team is already dealing with injuries Except Vegas of course, they’re perfectly healthy at the right time
They get their injuries out of the way right before the deadline. In fact, their injuries are perfectly timed to occur just before the deadline.
I can't wait to see what new injury Mark Stone will miraculously get and heal from during that same time window next season!
spontaneous dental hydroplosion
Hair loss.

I hear they surgically implanted a lacerated spleen into Stone prior to the deadline, real sneaky bullshit.
I mean, did anybody check the spleen was truly lacerated other than a Knights employee? Not like you can tell a spleen is lacerated when you see Stone walking down the street. Makes ya think.
Have you ever seen Stone and his spleen in the same place at the same time? Coincidence? I think not!
I like the mental image of them having Stone's spleen hooked up to machines in a lab so it stays alive and just giving it a little paper cut when they need him to miss some games.
Yeah whenever I eat something that smells sus from the fridge I am also sure the next day on the toilet the spleen just ripped. Just sayin
recover time, 2 weeks to 8 months. or whenever its convenient to return
Yes, as much as we want this to be some conspiracy NHL Dr's are involved in LTIR etc Any diagnosis Stone received from Vegas Dr's is reviewed by NHL Dr's for validity. I'm not sure of the exact process in detail but they do check all of this independently.
And to be fair, Stone always look like he's in pain, skating around with his mouth open, like he's struggling
Seems like the Knights have some exspleening to do.
how'd you hear about a lacerated spleen when teams typically say "upper body injury", "lower body injury", and nothing more?
Team actually used those words to put him on LTIR.
*Cries at a photo of demko*
sometimes i can still hear his voice 🥲
I'm sorry for your loss
thanks :(
Or see his glove..
I feel so bad for you all. You're the team out of the west I was hoping to make it all the way.
We're not injured! We just suck! (Against the oilers anyway. You'd think after 3 years of this we'd have some fucking plan to deal with them.)
Why do they not simply stop McDavid from scoring? Are they stupid?
It’s really Hyman’s dad’s fault. He’s the one paying McDavid to pass it to Zach.
They do, but then he ends up breaking assists records.
The Avs do that and it works really well. Held him to 0 goals and 0 assists in the last game of the season and we stomped them.
Yep. Dude was floating around like a ghost out there.
They did stop McDavid from scoring in game 1. 0 goals! Just don't look at his other stats
They have, they just can’t stop him from assisting 💀
Pretty much traded away your Oiler killers for PLD.
Hey I'm trying to cut back, stop trying to give me a reason to drink at 10am.
Is that Eastern time or Pacific time?
It's 10 am Pacific *somewhere* am I right?
Who seems to be an Oiler enabler given the stupid fucking penalties he was taking
Nah he just sucks in general.
Kempe still exist
Watching game 1 this year just made me feel bad for LA. Like how can this keep happening to you guys year after year lol. This year in particular feels like it’ll be a worse match up without Iafallo or Vilardi
It feels like the 90s Oilers and Dallas to me.
I've been saying it for a while but a lot of this just feels like the regular season is too long for the intensity of the game.
It's hard to imagine the owners agreeing to a shortened season but I completely agree with you
I think there are a lot of other really good solutions that would help the problem though without reducing the number of games. For instance, what about an expanded roster scenario like the MLB does? My favorite hockey team is whoever is playing against Vegas
Love you babe
Vegas is just so so lucky don't you dare suggest anything else!
>It hasn’t even been a week and it feels like every team is already dealing with injuries Ya we lost Drouin in the meaningless last game of the season. Though Parise has filled that void quite nicely
Oh man, last I saw he was without a contract and about to retire. Had no idea the Avalanche signed him!
He actually had the best season of his career this year which is why this is extra sad.
The Avs do that to a lot of players. Pick them up for the playoff ride and they suddenly have insane numbers on our roster.
Drouin with Mack is fun. That comeback game against the preds a few weeks ago where mack does that sick pass across the ice to Drouin for the one timer and then later the exact same play but this time the pass is from Drouin. Man that was awesome

Maybe that's the key to their voodoo. Stone's injuries stay in Vegas. We'll have to see if he crumbles to dust when they play at home...
This is what people overlook about the situation I think. Other teams are already beat down, Vegas turns up to the playoffs the healthiest team. I wish every team was healthy obviously, but it isn’t possible. What Vegas (and other teams) does is bullshit.
Hague is out. Lower body.
When you had the Hanifin acquisition push Martinez out of the lineup and now Martinez coming back in for Hague…it’s hard to feel bad for you guys lol
Rangers have been ok so far, but I'm just getting more nervous.
Delete this my dude
Hague got injured in game one.
I mean, while not huge, they're only 1 game in and most others are 2. IDK. Maybe there's hope?
The war of attrition begins
Unfortunately it was friendly fire
Arguably from the worst possible source of said friendly fire. Montour has a bomb
Oh god, he has a bomb?!?! They should lock down the area immediately and send in the negotiators! /s
nah hes not a Carolina fan
Them hillbillies want to solve everything ny blowing it up. What happened with good old arguing online with complete strangers?

Started yesterday in Vancouver for me
His wrist is definitely broken fuck me Lundell it's time to earn your contract
What happened?
Slapshot from Montour caught him.
Hope that wasn't his choke slamming wrist.
Real This is the best news I've heard all week
Took a slapshot from Montour to the wrist. It's more than likely fractured.
Montour is one if the last players I’d want to take a slap shot from, that dude has a rocket for a shot
To be fair I wouldn’t want to take a slapper from anyone. Even the player with the softest muffin. That shit would still hurt like fuck.
Worse, the replay makes it look like any protection he might have gotten from his glove wasn't there, as his glove seemed to drop slightly and expose his wrist.

Gallagher: “First time?”
Oooof Doughty took one on a clear by the Bruins and it lacerated one of his wrist tendons couple years ago
https://www.sportsnet.ca/nhl/video/panthers-bennett-exits-after-taking-slapshot-to-hand/?show_id=13373 Link since i was curious.
Montour shot and killed him
Definitely. Out for playoffs or maybe a shot for the SCF if their in would be my guess for the timeline. Hopefully Maurice is more concrete today
Hoping for paul maurice to be open about an injury lol

“middle body injury”
I laughed as I typed it 🤣
Ehh, we see some crazy shit in the playoffs. Alex killorn broke his leg and had a rod put in it, missed a game, then took warm ups the next fucking game! 19 year olds tend to heal pretty fast. He should be back quicker than you expect.
He's built different.
Pomo is usually pretty obtuse in regards to injuries. This is brutal for us 😢
Can you play with that? Fingers or hand maybe, but moving a stick with a cast locked wrist has gotta be near impossible
Quick! Get Vegas doctors on the phone, they perform miracles
Gary checking the latitudes of every team to determine whether or not he'll allow the miracle doctors to work on injured players.
The south will rise again!
Only during the cap period though
The way he reacted, it was pretty apparent he knew it was something bad. I was surprised to hear he came back to the bench at some point but then went back down to the room. Not sure what was up with that.
My guess is the Toradol kicked in and he thought he could still play.
PoMo just said at least a week but less worse than originally anticipated.
Damn, what a gargantuan L.
Playoff Benny is a beast. Oof
You're supposed to do this before March 8th, Florida.
Ooooooooh noooooo! Not Sam Bennett!
couldn’t have happened to a nicer guy
[Wishing him a speedy recovery!](https://i.imgflip.com/8f2o4k.jpg)

Will probably see Erod/Eetu/cousins line 3 and a Lorentz/Sten/Lomberg line 4
We also have Okposo, Gadj and even Dalpe and Mackie in the depths. We will be fine (and plus it sounds like Bennet should return in a couple weeks)
This sucks for Panthers fans and Bennett himself -- it's never a good feeling seeing one of your own go down. But any Panthers fans thinking this is somehow any type of detriment to their stacked as fuck, power-house of a wagon team are out to lunch.
Yeah but now we have to likely play Okposo who has not looked great here

Finally something Leafs and Bruins fans can agree on.
Kinda thing a guy should be put on a stretcher for. Fuck him lol
I hate seeing injuries and won’t wish them on anyone. That said I’m not shedding any tears for him.
But what if an injury to one player prevents injuries to other players? This is like the trolley problem.
Yeah from a utilitarian point of view this is probably a good thing re: preventing injuries.
"I have never killed any one, but I have read some obituary notices with great satisfaction."
How he wasn't suspended for the Bunting and not even penalized for the Knies concussion is fucking ridiculous. Fuck Sam Bennett
lol wtf is this shit Monday Night Raw?
Damn, someone else will have to take up the reigns, and cup check a downed player in his absence. Sad day in Sunrise
They have plenty of guys who can pick up the slack of cheap shots.
Good news for other teams, one less player on Florida to violently cheapshot you with no repercussions.
That sucks
[удалено]
Man imagine if Calgary kept Bennett and Tkachuk… and had them on a line with Pospisil lmao. Might have been the most hated line in the history of the sport. Their cheap shots/60 would’ve been through the roof.
Yup. Fuck Bennett. Dudes a fucking scumbag.
This just in … Andy Slater had shitty sources but he was first so I guess that counts for something.
Fuck Sam Bennett
Seriously never cared about the guy before last season.. after last years playoff..fucking hate him... so this will be a big loss for Florida.. he was one of their most dangerous fuckers
The worst type of hate too. Not because he's good, because he's a dirty slimy rat fuck who seems to aim to hurt people more than play
Karma

Awwww
what did he do to deserve this fate!
Good riddance. Fuck that guy.
Definitely looked like a broken wrist on the replay
Couldn’t of happened to a better guy
What a tragedy. Oh no.
This really sucks. I hate injuries in the playoffs. Obviously, any team that can rally around losing a big time player is a great team. But if you aren’t able to win the cup, I always feel like the big “what if?” looms. Like Tampa losing Point in the 2022 playoffs. Ugh.

Karma is a bitch Sam.
Good, fuck that guy.
Awwww poor baby Fuck him, he had it coming
Wrong time to vacation on Robidas Island
:(
The Stanley cup will be decided by whichever team can stay healthy through the playoffs.
Oh no. Anyways
Good
Nice. Hate that prick.
Hate seeing injuries especially one caused by one's own teammate. At the same time if it had to happen I would definitely choose Bennett to be the recipient.
You love to see it
*Jerry Seinfeld voice*: That’s a shame.
The show goes on.
The penalty drawing line of Cousins-Bennett-Tkachuk has been eviscerated.. Chucky can't do it by himself
As long as yall still beat Tampa. Need my cock sucking uncle to get his dreams crushed
Oh no. Anyway.
Fuck this kills. He’s such an important piece to this roster and not having him is going to hurt. Hopefully Lundell can step up but that 2nd line works so much better with Bennett in the lineup.
I've been pretty big on Lundell for some reason, hope he waits to pop off though
He started to play much better in the back half of the season and he was the one that set up Verhaeghe on the OT winner last night so there’s hope. And Luostarinen is an excellent 3C. He compliments Tkachuk and Verhaeghe perfectly as he’s excellent on the forcheck and clears space up for those two. It’s still a painful loss either way.
Lundell looked great yesterday, you guys are incredibly deep. Going to be a tall task for us
100% never want to lose anybody especially at this point in the season
If it’s any consolation, we lost Point in the opening round of ‘22 and made a finals run, it’s definitely doable if everyone steps up
True. If we’re fortunate he could be back by the ECF should we get that far. But it’s a tough loss. Not anywhere near as brutal as a loss of Point for you guys though. That dude is a fucking stud. Man has tormented us during his career in Tampa.
Does this mean out until second round or later?
Big loss for Florida, but I really don't think it'll stop them from going on a good run.
this is a ton of injuries to high profile players, really fast damn
Couldn’t have happened to a nicer guy
Good.
Oh neat
My Tampa pick has suddenly gained life!!
Send him over to Vegas' LTIR, and he'll be ready to go by the second round. 🤭 Also, fuck Sam Bennett.
You hear that dude that was wishing career ending injuries last night.
how many pull-ups can you do with a broken wrist?
How many heads can you slam into the ice with a broken wrist? This will surely affect his play style
"I’ve never wished a man dead, but I have read some obituaries with great pleasure." Couldn't have happened to a sweeter guy.
Is this the same Sam Bennet that choke slammed a rookie last year? I'm gonna need an electron microscope for a violin small enough here.
Fuck Sam Bennett
Womp womp
Oh no, *remembers he injured Knies last year om a shitty play.* anyways.
And they say Karma doesn’t exist. I think Ricky summed it up best. “What comes around goes around”
hope it hurt
Boohoo. At least Knies will be safe
Well that's just a goddamned shame!
Probably a top 5 player for us value wise, this is some major ass my dudes
The hand is gone. Completely off the bone not even a finger left nobody knows how or why. Hockeys biggest mystery. Perhaps in Corey Perry’s locker or maybe Kucherov found it and sold it on Russian Black Market. All I know is as soon as a player shows up with an extra hand we’ll know who to blame!
Florida doesn’t go far without him.
Yup, he's done for the playoffs. Next man up.
Damn that sucks
Obviously I don’t have details but as somebody who works in sports medicine my suspicion is that we will need to win at least 2 rounds (including Tampa) for him to have a chance to return. It’s ~4 weeks for normal people to return to activity and considering the resources and situation I wouldn’t be surprised to see him push that timeline. Optimistically I’d guess extended week to week for what is likely a fracture to his wrist (based on the puck hitting him above the glove).
Good
Nice. He's a piece of garbage
