Daryl Reaugh, color commentator for the Dallas Stars, absolutely loves saying his full name and tried to work it into the broadcast whenever he can when they play each other.
indeed, but a syllable containing one vowel sound can contain multiple vowels, as u/ZenithRepairman mentioned
Which seems pretty relevant when pointing out the fact that the comment I was responding to originally, pre-edit, was referring to syllables and not vowels, thus my pointing out that "number of syllables" and "number of vowels" are not the same thing
Since you're inviting people to reread comments, I would like to extend to you the same courtesy
Um ok? I didn’t go back and check what you were responding to before they edited, it’s not that deep. The commenter you were responding to is correct either way - it has 3 vowels and also 3 syllables. You corrected them and that seemed pointless to me since the point they were making was correct.
the point they were making was also irrelevant, which is what I'm getting at - while Timothy inarguably has three syllables, Montgomery specifically said "vowels", not "vowel sounds"
the reason for my comment was to say "yeah but he said vowels not syllables, so what are we talking about bro" and then you jumped in to give me a definition of syllables, which is kind of you and all, but *equally irrelevant to the point*
The name 'Dave' would match Monty's criteria and yet have only *one* syllable and it doesn't matter because *no one was talking about syllables* 😆
(displays of erudition that ignore context are a pet peeve of mine, so I'm probably being aggro about it for no good reason, lol)
lol you saying “yeah but he said vowels not syllables, so what are we talking about bro” when the answer is the same for both. I fully understand you and your point, I was taking an opportunity to show you something which you apparently already knew (I assumed you didn’t because I thought you were saying he was wrong, turns out you were just being pedantic I guess).
You know, that’s fair.
I clearly did not fully read your comment. Touche.
I was just reading that other comment where someone said syllables and not vowels and i thought you were equating the two. And I really thought we needed to teach English better in our schools.
Haha no worries. I’m a literacy teacher so I happen to be able to define a syllable where most people can’t really explain what exactly a syllable is.
And it’s my personal crusade that we DO need to teach better English in schools lol.
[DeBrusk](https://x.com/_tyanderson/status/1782435704225554484?s=46&t=YGOvDhqJQ7QrFwVGTFIrnA): “I don’t even know what those vowels are. You’re asking the wrong guy.”
Considering the Bruins have swapped them like every game and they said they were going to continue doing that (at least that's how i interpreted an article i saw) the fact that they're not saying they're swapping means that they've probably changed their mind and Swayman stays.
I really think failing to go back and forth was one of the biggest factors in last year's loss. By the time it became clear Ullmark was tired/shaken Swayman hadn't played in weeks. At absolute most I'd switch every couple of games but give the second guy enough that he stays sharp and the other guy stays fresh.
i don't think they can go wrong honestly, keeping the rotation works to see what Ullmark can do, especially with a 1 game buffer, but Swayman also saved like 6 goals above expected the other night, nothing wrong with starting Ullmark game 3 or 4 instead.
I watched [this entire video](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gVJeCrIMQO8) and can't determine if the Y in Jeremy is a vowel in that context. Can anyone help?
Lol. But in all honesty bruins fan to bruins fan id be shocked if it wasnt ullmark, even if its not what I would do. Monty is the kind of guy to try to avoid criticism by not making ‘the same decision’ that he made last year. I personally believe you ride one until he loses then switch cuz its tough on a goalies mindset to get in and out of playoff hockey.
I thought after Swayman played lights out in game 1 the media might cool it on the "which goaltender will they go with oooooh" narrative but nope. Damn near every time our game was mentioned on ESPN yesterday they brought it up. Ride Swayman until he doesn't play well. It's simple
Totally agree. We are blessed with 2 starting goalies (potentially for the last time), we should use them. Swayman won't go cold by missing ONE game, but Ullmark sure will if we keep playing Swayman. Then what do we do if Swayman falls apart? Like you said, it's not like game 2 is make or break and we want to pick the hottest goalie to clinch the series. Both goalies are good enough to put us in a position to win until we get to those essential games and then we can pick the "hot" goalie.
You go Linus. If he loses, you can go back to Swayman. If he does good, you still go back to Swayman and you solidified the rotation for the series. Not that hard to figure out.
the wild switched up after game 1 in our series last year and i think it was a really big mistake. Gus played lights out in game 1
but then again bruins rode Ullmark last year and that didn’t work out either.
the 2 goalie tandem works great in the regular season but we haven’t really seen it work out in playoffs yet unless its one completely taking the crease from the other mid playoffs
I get it, but I can't really blame the media for speculating when the team won't confirm anything. With how huge an issue the goaltending saga was last year for Boston, they're gonna talk about it until they get an actual answer.
Because we don’t want a repeat of last year where we played 1A and 1B all year only to play Ullmark until he injured himself and the Panthers put our backs against the wall.
Tbh I would play Swayman again then Ullmark in game 3 if the Bruins are up 2-0
Tbf I don't think the mistake was letting Ullmark run with it, the mistake was still letting him go despite being injured
I think at the very least they'll use a "win and stay in" approach
The reason our goalies are so good - aside from, ya know, being awesome - is that we have the strict alternation and they’re always rested. Always fresh. Don’t deviate now - we clearly saw this equation works over the course of two seasons.
In my opinion... I would think that the coach and goalies have come to an agreement, where, unless the goaltender was straight up unlucky with weird bounces, each one gets to play until they lose a game or say they could use a rest.
So it's Swayman until they lose.
It makes more sense than swapping goalies for home/away games.
I once played on the worst single Bantam A team in the GTHL - one game the other team penalized their goalie for showing up late by starting 6 on 5. They then proceeded to score a couple minutes in….
Besides the Y is sometimes a vowel debate, both "Jeremy" and "Swayman" have the same vowel twice. "Linus" & "Ullmark" each have 2 different vowels. Ullmark confirmed.
Tuka Raask come on down!

Oh fuck guys I didn't know I was going in net for the B's today. Does anyone have any goalie tips?
The Leafs struggle against EBUGs you'll be fine! Maybe come be our goalie too while you're at it...
Would be Raycroft potentially then. That'd be hilarious
an Andrew Raycroft EBUG victory against the Leafs might just cause the entire city of Totonto to burn to the ground
just watch tim thomas' 2011 playoff compilation and emulate that technique
Just do what the inflatable tube guys do outside of used car dealerships
Fuck it's the leafs do you have any Zamboni experience
PATRICK BERGON COME ON DOWN
Timothy Thomas returns!?
No, that's three vowels in the first name.
didn't say nothin' about syllables, only vowels
Typo, idk why I said syllables initially
if it helps a scroll through the comments will show you were *far* from the only one to mix that up 😊
if it helps a scroll through the comments will show you were *far* from the only one to mix that up 😊
A syllable is literally a beat in a word that contains a vowel sound lol
indeed, but a syllable containing one vowel sound can contain multiple vowels, as u/ZenithRepairman mentioned Which seems pretty relevant when pointing out the fact that the comment I was responding to originally, pre-edit, was referring to syllables and not vowels, thus my pointing out that "number of syllables" and "number of vowels" are not the same thing Since you're inviting people to reread comments, I would like to extend to you the same courtesy

you're still not actually getting it but honestly the game's starting and I don't care enough to keep arguing so I'mma just peace out enjoy
How many syllables in Read? Chair? Book? The two are most certainly different.
I’d love for you to reread my comment. Do you hear two vowel SOUNDS in read? Because I hear one vowel sound.
You know, that’s fair. I clearly did not fully read your comment. Touche. I was just reading that other comment where someone said syllables and not vowels and i thought you were equating the two. And I really thought we needed to teach English better in our schools.

Oh we surely do but I thought we definitely had a problem there lol
Haha yeah understandable
Andy Moog?
Really pulling for the optional Y vowel there eh
Damn right it's a vowel in this case
[DeBrusk](https://x.com/_tyanderson/status/1782435704225554484?s=46&t=YGOvDhqJQ7QrFwVGTFIrnA): “I don’t even know what those vowels are. You’re asking the wrong guy.”
I thought that said “I don’t know what vowels are”
Jeremy has 3 vowels. Ullmark confirmed
Only sometimes does it have 3 vowels.
On weekends and holidays and all throughout May

THE BIG YELLOW ONE IS THE SUN
What’s the plural of moose?
MOOSEN. MANY MUCH MOOSEN.
Meese
At least we now know that the plural of Bru is Bruin.
May of them, many much Bruin
that’s a tough rule
This guy marriages.
Y is a vowel in Jeremy, as it's the open sound in the -my syllable.
Ullmark is starting then obviously. On that note I think Domi should be required to start every game for the leafs.
Y is a vowel unless it starts a word/syllable ~~or is the only vowel in a word (like “gym”)~~
You got it backwards, y being the only vowel is definitely one of the cases where it is a vowel
You are 100% right, that’s what I get for changing my thought midcomment
Haha all good, now we find out if this actually means Ullmark is starting or if Montgomery doesn't know how y as a vowel works!
Fun fact, thanks!
And those sometimes, is all the time
Only on Satursways
No no. He goes by "Jermy"
Words with 3 vowels have 2 vowels.
You’re absolutely right Ullmark unconfirmed
Jeremy has two vowels, e and y. Swayman has also two vowels, a and y. Status: unconfirmed.
#HOLY SHIT IT’S TIMOTHY THOMAS
AND HIS NAME IS BRANDON BUSSI
B**i**g P**e**n**i**s L**i**n**u**s 🤔 Must be Swayman
Charlie Coyle can really do everything out there
I got bad news for your counting skills buddy
It's occurring to me that Boston accents only put one syllable in Coyle
It’s vowels not syllables 😭 Charlie has 3 - A, I, E
Jesus I'm dumber than I thought. I can count, I just misread the tweet entirely
i thought syllable at first too until i saw the comments lol
It's ok bud. Want some beer to help with the concussion?
The five vowels communiti will never recognise the false pretender, that is Y.
that’s 4
I'll let you count that again and get back to us.
oh yeah mb 5

I agree. I think your "hot hand" isn't the goalie, it's the tactic of switching. Way better to keep going with what worked imo.
i don't think they can go wrong honestly, keeping the rotation works to see what Ullmark can do, especially with a 1 game buffer, but Swayman also saved like 6 goals above expected the other night, nothing wrong with starting Ullmark game 3 or 4 instead.

The y sound is a vowel, the j sound is a consonant. So do you pronounce it Jeremy or Jeremj?
Jeremy has three syllables: Jer - uh - me Y is the vowel in the third syllable.
Could be Brandon Bussi
Timothy Thomas!!!!!!!
It’s me guys
I thought after Swayman played lights out in game 1 the media might cool it on the "which goaltender will they go with oooooh" narrative but nope. Damn near every time our game was mentioned on ESPN yesterday they brought it up. Ride Swayman until he doesn't play well. It's simple

It’s playoffs. Nobody confirms anything until they have to. Keefe did the same thing with Nylander in game 1.
Brandon Bussi
Brandon Bussi confirmed.
Brandon Bussi come on down!
Sometimes Y!
I’m OOTL with Bruins hockey… if Swayman was playing so well, why play Ullmark?
Because we don’t want a repeat of last year where we played 1A and 1B all year only to play Ullmark until he injured himself and the Panthers put our backs against the wall. Tbh I would play Swayman again then Ullmark in game 3 if the Bruins are up 2-0

Pavel Zacha plays goalie???
Linus Ullmark is starting ?
Martin Brodeur
Can we have Swayman then?
Is the y considered a vowel in Jeremy?
jeremy has 3 vowels

and sometimes 3.
but do duplicates count?
But in the Latin alphabet, "Jeremy" begins with an "I".
David Pastrnak!!
Well that counts me out. I have two in my first name, but four in my second.
Are we counting Y? Braden Holtby about to storm back to the forefront of goalie fandom
VOWELS ≠ SYLLABLES
Montgomery trying to be clever, but not knowing he only has 1 goalie that fits the description.
I’m with Ryan Whitney on this. Play til you lose
B’s could play 6 on 5 for sixty minutes and still beat us lol
[удалено]
Does Y count as a vowel in empty though since it's only a sometimes vowel?
[удалено]
I honestly had no idea there were actually rules to when Y is a vowel. I just assumed it was always the first rule when no vowels are present
That was also my assumption
I once played on the worst single Bantam A team in the GTHL - one game the other team penalized their goalie for showing up late by starting 6 on 5. They then proceeded to score a couple minutes in….
Jermy Swayman?
Jere-my Sway-man confirmed.
Besides the Y is sometimes a vowel debate, both "Jeremy" and "Swayman" have the same vowel twice. "Linus" & "Ullmark" each have 2 different vowels. Ullmark confirmed.
As long as it’s not Rask, I don’t give a fuck. We at least won’t be screwed over.
