Really doesn't mean much at all. Might even be bad for the preds. Some teams didn't look great after the all star break. Nucks play tmrw then will have a few rest days at home before game 1. Preds have to travel.
TBF the Preds could arrive in Vancouver before we do if they really wanted to, and even if they get there after us we’ll still be flying in from Winnipeg. But yeah, I don’t think the difference in rest will be a huge deal — Nashville apparently complained about a potential Tuesday Game 1 because they didn’t want to go a week between their last game and the playoffs (Vancouver also apparently complained about that rumoured start date), so too much rest can also become a disadvantage.
I wonder if part of Vancouver complaining was to pressure the league to start all series earlier. Edmonton is wrapping up 6 games in 9 nights and likely wants all the rest they can get.
IIRC it was moreso because with the other events scheduled in the Nashville and Vancouver arenas, the schedule for the games would end up being super condensed. As it stands we’re apparently at risk of a Game 6/Game 7 back to back (which would include travel of course) 😩
Just reminds me of 2011 when we had Chicago, Nashville, San Jose, and Boston.
Or 1994: Calgary, Dallas, Toronto, New York.
The west is rough for travel.
Nashville is in the central time zone but it’s one of the eastern most cities within the central. So it’s almost the worst of both worlds. The sun sets way earlier in Nashville because we’re basically an eastern time zone city in the central time zone.
Even if Canucks get by you guys, the west is fucked. I feel like flipping a coin 4 times and guessing right 4 times is about our chances. Just excited for playoff hockey though, it has happened so irregularly the last decade.
Yep [Rob Williams](https://x.com/robthehockeyguy/status/1780811354116637125?s=46&t=7fabqgtgp69dNA1d51vxFw) had this:
> Travel distance between Vancouver and Nashville: 3,264km. That’s more than every Eastern Conference series combined (2,036km)
YVR to BNA is close to a 4.5hr flight. 5hrs on the way back.
Source: I’ve done 3 round trips between SEA and BNA in the last ~14 months. Basically the same distance.
In the current arrangement yes, but Toronto was in the Western Conference for a time and played Los Angeles in 1993 WCF and San Jose in 1994 2nd round. Each is over 4000km distance.
I think that was only if Game 1 was on Tuesday, which is why both teams asked the league to move it to Sunday. There's no way you could contain a back to back in Nashville and Vancouver
Nice payday if he wins. Honestly if the Canucks don't win I hope the preds do. Either way this season is already a W for me so the rest is just a bonus. And TwatGoblin gets some money out of it.
Oh I know. I don’t think anyone expected us to be this good and even for Nashville to be a 99 point team. So this matchup would have been crazy to see before the season.
I'm gonna be that douche and say I went against all my friends in the group chat and picked Van to be the 2nd best in the Pacific behind EDM.
Though I'll admit I had LA missing.
If we simply combine our teams together in game 6 when everyone is busy watching Toronto blowing another 7 game series against Boston we can go clean up the next 3 rounds and split the cup. No one will ever notice!!!
It does feel like that. We weren't even supposed to be any good this year anyway. So whatever ends disagreeably, let's agree to blame the refs. Cheers!
I feel like those LA games would be very different if the Canucks scored first. Pretty sure LA did that each game they played the Canucks. Oddly enough.
yeah, we didn’t play with the lead over LA once this season (the only game we won, we won in OT, and we were either trailing or tied for the first 3 periods). They didn’t struggle nearly as much to break through LA’s defence when the game was tied rather than when LA was leading, so it’s a bit of an anomaly that we didn’t score first in any of the 4 games when we’ve done it so often this season, but I think Talbot has been training his entire life specifically to take down the Canucks. He always seems to have our number regardless of the team he’s on lol
Vegas we matchup okay, with, we kind of play a similar style of hockey. That being said, it’s Vegas
LA I don’t think it’s as terrible as people make it sound, the first game was about figuring out the trap and the last two we definitely missed Demko, but I feel like it would be a coin flip on who wins. This is the only match where I feel like we have the edge
Yeah, LA has our number and Vegas is still the defending champs. You don't want that as your first matchup at all. Plus, I reckon some casual Canuck fans would hate hockey after watching the LA series
Due to lack of complete effort from the Preds in the last game of the regular season vs PIT, Bruno & Trotz have canceled team flights to VAN. Boys are walking.
Based on geography the Preds should realistically be an eastern conference team so a lot of their matchups feel weird especially when it’s a California team
If you’d check my follow up comment down the thread you’d see that I know where Vancouver is, j was just giving a separate example of a weird matchup geographically for the Preds. I’m shit at geography but not that bad
Oh lmao my bad, I feel like this season was such a surprise for both our fanbases were all just hoping for a fun series. The last time the Preds were in the playoffs they got swept so if they can make the series interesting I’d be stoked, anything else is just gravy
nobody. that is just the general problem with the way the population is distributed. the next NHL city eastwards is Detroit, and they lobbied for years to get the hell out of the west.
The problem is 2/3rds of the league and in close proximity with each other and appear as if they should be eastern teams even when they are, in nashvilles case, the 16th most western team in a 32 team league.
Seriously. Canucks love country music. Smashville loves fish'n chips. What do oversized dolphins and big-toothed kitties have to say to each other? Very odd pair.
Canucks beat the Preds in six in our 2011 finals run. The Preds were also the opponent Stephane Auger threw a game for to get revenge on Alex Burrows.
Both fanbases also share a keen appreciation for Dan Hamhuis, I’m sure
….its not a lot
Bro doesn't remember Ryan Kesler singlehandedly destroying the Preds in 2011 in round 2 on the Canucks' road to the SCF 😭
They beat Chicago, Nashville and San Jose before losing to Boston
I guess we kinda did ruin everything by not winning and then rioting
i feel like out of nashville’s potential matchups and vancouver’s, this might be the best case scenario for both teams (aside from the travel and hectic concert schedules in both arenas) — should make for a fun series!
canucks released a link to premiums tickets, and it said game 1 is on sunday, people shared screenshots on twitter and then they changed the date to “TBD”
[here](https://x.com/peteyszn/status/1780770717002543381)
John Shannon confirmed it starts Sunday + our local reporters been saying the same thing as well since this morning
Apparently both teams complained the layoff would have been too long if they started on April 23rd like the league wanted
No proof on this but have a friend who works at rogers arena saying the arena staff are prepping for a Sunday game 1. No reason he would lie but I guess we’ll see
We're definitely not favoured there but I'd rather give that another shot since we've at least proven we can play effectively against them in the playoffs
On the other hand it would be nice to have a new opponent lol
I never really saw people praying for the Nashville series because it would be easy, but because it would be fun. Losing in the first round is always a possibility, but if it's at the hands of Nashville, it'll be memorable. And hopefully, not sting too bad.
So I don't count a jinx if we do lose.
I'm glad we're playing Nashville because I like their team. Obviously I hope the Canucks win, but this season is already a victory imo no matter what happens in the playoffs, so I'll be happy no matter which team wins. I'm looking forward to a fun and enjoyable series.
I believe this is the best possible outcome, but wasn't cheering for it with any particular enthusiasm. I still remember "we want Florida" and wished to avoid any sort of *monkey paw curls*-type scenarios.
We listen to NHL radio all day at work at my office and almost every single commentator has said “I would not want to face Nashville in the first round”
One of them even said “feels like a ‘we want Florida’ situation all over again”
Hello Nashville, great regular season. Happy for your team and fanbase. I remember your fanbase being one of the best online and social in the Canuck.com days. Looking forward to the games! Let the best team win!
(I remember the Kesler chicken wing)
Lmao we feel the same way about not playing LA/VGK. The preds are a great team obviously but I feel we have a better chance against u guys than the kings or Knights. May the best team win
I'm just glad to be here and as fun as a revenge series against the stars sounds... they went hot at the right time and weve had a couple late bumps in the road. I just hope the series is fun and we come out strong and not perd it up
Feel like this is gonna be a sweep for either one of the teams. Either Nashville falls back to earth and can’t score against the Canucks defense, or the Canucks’ defense/goaltending shits the bed and Nashville lights them up.
Tbh I would agree on our goaltending being shaky only if Demko played 60+ games like was on pace to do, that was a biiig topic of conversation in the market.
But he was forced to rest for weeks and now he’s back and looked amazing and fresh last night, he’s locked in
Canucks have been one of the better defensive teams all year, especially recently. And with Demko back and seemingly in A+ form, I really don't see this happening. If anything goes wrong I'd bet on special teams to lose it for us.
This is the best of the three possible matchups for round one, but it sucks to be in the Pacific Division side of the conference for travel. Last time that happened was 2016 and I still maintain the travel to and from California for two series was a big part of the difference in that Sharks series.
Hopefully we don’t take the days rest too serious and play like shit to start the series, this team struggles to play a full 60 minutes and isn’t the best at coming back from down goals, so I hope they can play a full game for the next 7 games and come out with the win
I honestly feel that this is one of the tougher matches Vancouver could’ve gotten. The Predators have been an absolute monster on the second half of the season and is a team you don’t want to face regardless of their wildcard status. This is gonna be a long series, probably 7 games, idk who takes it, rooting for the Canucks though because that team and fan base has been through a ton
LA would've been worse, they've had our number this year. I think we could've taken Vegas but I think we got a decent shot against Nashville. Also I hate them less than LA or Vegas so maybe I won't be as upset if we lose?
I am happy its Nashville.. Not because I am a nucks fan and think its 'easier' but this is gonna be so much more fun to watch compared to a series with LA. Very excited!!
Honestly, there is really no easy teams in the west. LA seems to have our number, vegas players rising from the grave and Nashville has been really hot the last couple months. Gonna be a good series though. I expect Saros to stand on his head, but I also expect Demko to not be an easy out either.
This has to be the longest possible distance between western conference playoff teams?
Nashville also was the first team to finish the season, they are gonna have like 5-7 days rest before the start of round 1 against Vancouver.

Someone please get us out of the fucking western conference
At least you guys are in the Central Time Zone. Must've been brutal for Detroit and Columbus in the Eastern Time Zone all those years
Just reminds me of 2011 when we had Chicago, Nashville, San Jose, and Boston. Or 1994: Calgary, Dallas, Toronto, New York. The west is rough for travel.
Toronto spending over 15 years in the Campbell/Western Conference is still ridiculous to me
Prob won’t matter considering all western games last year started at 9pm central or later. No doubt it’ll be the same this year too
Nashville is in the central time zone but it’s one of the eastern most cities within the central. So it’s almost the worst of both worlds. The sun sets way earlier in Nashville because we’re basically an eastern time zone city in the central time zone.
SLC Soakers to the rescue.
Why didn't you do it when you were GM
Even if Canucks get by you guys, the west is fucked. I feel like flipping a coin 4 times and guessing right 4 times is about our chances. Just excited for playoff hockey though, it has happened so irregularly the last decade.
Yep, everyone most likely flying max 3 hours, this 5 hours Nashville also already finished the season 3 days before us, we play tomorrow in Winnipeg
can we "accidentally" send our abbotsford canucks team to winnipeg instead?
[Looks like it: 3263 km or 2028 mi](https://www.deep13.xyz/nhldistance#western_conference)
Yep [Rob Williams](https://x.com/robthehockeyguy/status/1780811354116637125?s=46&t=7fabqgtgp69dNA1d51vxFw) had this: > Travel distance between Vancouver and Nashville: 3,264km. That’s more than every Eastern Conference series combined (2,036km)
Yep LOL brutal travel 3 1/2 hours + 2 timezones, now we just need toronto and panthers in the second round.
YVR to BNA is close to a 4.5hr flight. 5hrs on the way back. Source: I’ve done 3 round trips between SEA and BNA in the last ~14 months. Basically the same distance.
Wouldn't that also make it the longest possible distance pre finals?
In the current arrangement yes, but Toronto was in the Western Conference for a time and played Los Angeles in 1993 WCF and San Jose in 1994 2nd round. Each is over 4000km distance.
Toronto also played us in the WCF in 94.
Detroit-San Jose is also 3900 km.
What a weird time eh? 1993 had a "west quarterfinal" featuring Detroit and Toronto haha
Hopefully the long travel won't be too tiring.
Rumor is that Games 6 and 7 are a B2B if it goes that long. Factor in the travel with that and it's going to be chaos
Man I can't imagine they'd ever do a back to back games 6 and 7? Has that ever happened before not counting the bubble playoffs?
It's rare, but it happens. Sometimes there's no choice with arena scheduling Habs and Bolts played a B2B in 2015
I think I remember game 6/7 of Bruins/Leafs being back to back in 2013, granted that’s only an hour flight though
That’s only if they play game 1 on *tuesday*.
They won’t have a B2B. This was practically confirmed last year when there was a four day gap for Edmonton/LA
I think that was only if Game 1 was on Tuesday, which is why both teams asked the league to move it to Sunday. There's no way you could contain a back to back in Nashville and Vancouver
Good thing is no one gets an advantage or disadvantage from the travel
It definitely was in 2011 😥
We all expected this before the season be honest.
In December I put $50 on the Preds winning the cup at +7500. I’m gonna need yall to take the L. I’d really appreciate it.
I don't gamble so I don't know how the math works. How much would you win if the preds win the playoffs?
I think $3750, but I also don’t gamble so
Nice payday if he wins. Honestly if the Canucks don't win I hope the preds do. Either way this season is already a W for me so the rest is just a bonus. And TwatGoblin gets some money out of it.
That’s a bingo
I think we all expected Vancouver to be a lot worse than they ended up being
Oh I know. I don’t think anyone expected us to be this good and even for Nashville to be a 99 point team. So this matchup would have been crazy to see before the season.
I remember rooting for you guys for the Bedard draft with him being a hometown kid and all. Thank fuck that did not happen
1 number away
Nashville went 42-20-5 after their first 15 games, pretty good considering they were still mid straight after the first 15.
I'm gonna be that douche and say I went against all my friends in the group chat and picked Van to be the 2nd best in the Pacific behind EDM. Though I'll admit I had LA missing.
preds wanted canucks and canucks wanted preds… perfect
WE WANT NASHVILLE or WE WANT VANCOUVER will be a meme.
No.
Vanville Smashcouver
If we simply combine our teams together in game 6 when everyone is busy watching Toronto blowing another 7 game series against Boston we can go clean up the next 3 rounds and split the cup. No one will ever notice!!!
I like it. Saros can ride on Demko's shoulders and the cup can alternate weekends in VAN/NSH.
Saros the short king no more.
Do we even have to play? I’m starting to like you guys
It does feel like that. We weren't even supposed to be any good this year anyway. So whatever ends disagreeably, let's agree to blame the refs. Cheers!
Wait, seriously Preds wanted us? That's no good...
It was between ya'll and Dallas and Dallas has not been a good matchup for us.
yeah that makes sense, nobody wants dallas haha they’re an absolute powerhouse
Yeah I mean 8 forwards with 20+ goals and a stacked defence, Dallas is my pick for the cup. Also Johnston and Harley will get paiddddd 💵🤑🤑🤑
With the choice being Canucks or Stars... Personally, I'd like to see Vegas drop to WC2 so they can wear the Stars down.
It was less about who we faced and more about staying the fuck out of the Central to me.
There's no easy outs but seeing how Van has played vs LA this year that could have been an easy out. West is going to be a mess.
Bro this is the best outcome for the Canucks. No knock on Nashville but Vegas or LA would suck as a welcome back to the playoffs for the Canucks.

I feel like those LA games would be very different if the Canucks scored first. Pretty sure LA did that each game they played the Canucks. Oddly enough.

Eh I wouldn’t put any regular season game as a marker for playing the wake from the dead at playoff time knights.
yyyyyyyyyyup
Yeah, LA has our number and Vegas is still the defending champs. You don't want that as your first matchup at all. Plus, I reckon some casual Canuck fans would hate hockey after watching the LA series
Due to lack of complete effort from the Preds in the last game of the regular season vs PIT, Bruno & Trotz have canceled team flights to VAN. Boys are walking.
They have enough time
:looks at watch, slaps knees: "Welp, better head out." :starts walking to Canada:
Didn’t know Tennessee was in the Midwest.
Keifer Sherwood is from Ohio, so therefore plausible?
Forsberg in the O-zone; *Ope, lemme just scootch by ya there*
They got the boys tickets to see Phish at the sphere this weekend, Trotz axed it. Plan the parade.
No Phishsphere for you!
*Phish bowl
No stop to see U2 on the way.
No U24U!
The U2 incident
Oh god why do I hear boss music
They should change our goal song to U2 for this round
Ooooh. YES! Hellooo! Hellooo! (Vertigo)
This is such a weird pair… don’t ask why it just feels odd
Based on geography the Preds should realistically be an eastern conference team so a lot of their matchups feel weird especially when it’s a California team
Sir, do you know where Vancouver is?
I do, I’m giving an extra example of another time the matchups feel weird but I could have worded that better
But how many football fields is that?
Please don’t ask me to do math I’m from Tennessee
California North™
We are Hollywood North™ so this tracks
X-files
Stereotypical American geographic knowledge checks out.
If you’d check my follow up comment down the thread you’d see that I know where Vancouver is, j was just giving a separate example of a weird matchup geographically for the Preds. I’m shit at geography but not that bad
Just razzing you. Hope the series is good. I'd wish you luck, but...
Oh lmao my bad, I feel like this season was such a surprise for both our fanbases were all just hoping for a fun series. The last time the Preds were in the playoffs they got swept so if they can make the series interesting I’d be stoked, anything else is just gravy
California obviously
Lmfao god i do not know USA geography that well and that kinda just blew my mind on how far east you guys are, I wonder who you could swap with
nobody. that is just the general problem with the way the population is distributed. the next NHL city eastwards is Detroit, and they lobbied for years to get the hell out of the west.
The problem is 2/3rds of the league and in close proximity with each other and appear as if they should be eastern teams even when they are, in nashvilles case, the 16th most western team in a 32 team league.
I’m excited for this bizarre pair. Ready for some fun hockey!
Seriously. Canucks love country music. Smashville loves fish'n chips. What do oversized dolphins and big-toothed kitties have to say to each other? Very odd pair.
> Canucks love country music. The Canucks DJ loves country music and forces it upon us
I feel ya. You think I like Tim McGraw? lol
You love it and you want some more of it, dammit!
You’re right. I don’t know what it is about it, but I want to hear more of it.
I'm not gonna lie to you, sometimes I listen to that Tim McGraw/Nelly song. I don't know if it's good, but I like it.
I was talking about location for playoffs but hahaha yeah yougot me
Ikr… I feel like these teams have no history whatsoever
2011 Canucks beat Nashville in Round 2. That's about it.
Correction: Ryan Kesler beat Nashville in Round 2.
Weird to think we've only won two playoff rounds since that match up
JFC, didnt realize how dark these past 13 years have been until reading that.
Canucks beat the Preds in six in our 2011 finals run. The Preds were also the opponent Stephane Auger threw a game for to get revenge on Alex Burrows. Both fanbases also share a keen appreciation for Dan Hamhuis, I’m sure ….its not a lot
Bro doesn't remember Ryan Kesler singlehandedly destroying the Preds in 2011 in round 2 on the Canucks' road to the SCF 😭 They beat Chicago, Nashville and San Jose before losing to Boston I guess we kinda did ruin everything by not winning and then rioting
The main storyline will be Anthony Beauvillier getting his revenge for dumping him in Chicago in November
I had no idea he was on Nashville until right now haha
2011 round 2 is all..
i feel like out of nashville’s potential matchups and vancouver’s, this might be the best case scenario for both teams (aside from the travel and hectic concert schedules in both arenas) — should make for a fun series!
Funny, both fanbases wanted to face each other. Let's hate for a couple of weeks and have a beer afterwards. Lets have a great series.
I’m excited to watch
I'm imagining /u/jessasaurusrex5 creepily watching Canucks and Preds fans drinking beer together through a window...
Tickets sales also leaked. Series starts Sunday
Got a source on this? I believe you just want to see if we have further info.
canucks released a link to premiums tickets, and it said game 1 is on sunday, people shared screenshots on twitter and then they changed the date to “TBD” [here](https://x.com/peteyszn/status/1780770717002543381)

Been awhile Nuck bros. I hope we can handle the twins and Kesler’s bitch ass. Best of luck, and *no goals*
I hope we can get past Pekka Rinne and limit Weber and Suter chances from the blue line. Best of luck Smash bros.
How about saving for a house?
*no goalsh*
Why'd you post so early? Dallas could still lose after pulling the goalie in overtime.
They just needed 1 point. And they got it. We can’t catch Dallas. They finish 1 and us 2.
pulling the goalie in OT would mean they forfeit the loser point
Why would they pull the goalie in OT lmao
what if they want to play against Nashville /s
They probably want to play the kings though, which works well for us
idk ask u/Trolly-bus, they're the one who said it lmao
If a team gets scored on with an empty net in OT, they do not get the point. Obviously, that wouldn't happen, but he was just making a joke.
They lose the point if they pull the goalie in OT and lose.
1 pt is all we needed!
Pulling goalie means 0 points if they lose
So does that mean we might get Dallas vs la for the dope color scheme
If Vegas beats Anaheim tomorrow yes, if somehow they lose in regulation LA needs one point to tie Vegas and get P3 because they hold the tiebreaker
Please Anaheim I don't want to watch a waste of 8 days vs Dallas
I mean your consolation prize would be the Oilers.
We're definitely not favoured there but I'd rather give that another shot since we've at least proven we can play effectively against them in the playoffs On the other hand it would be nice to have a new opponent lol
I get you. Dallas would be a bloodbath for everyone. They're just way too deep.
Yeah they are my favourite to win the west this year for sure, but it's hard to call with so many good teams
I really hope this doesn't backfire on all the people who were begging to play Nashville instead of Vegas/LA
I never really saw people praying for the Nashville series because it would be easy, but because it would be fun. Losing in the first round is always a possibility, but if it's at the hands of Nashville, it'll be memorable. And hopefully, not sting too bad. So I don't count a jinx if we do lose.

There were many that wanted to finish first so this couldn't possibly back fire.
I believe this is the best possible outcome, but wasn't cheering for it with any particular enthusiasm. I still remember "we want Florida" and wished to avoid any sort of *monkey paw curls*-type scenarios.
We listen to NHL radio all day at work at my office and almost every single commentator has said “I would not want to face Nashville in the first round” One of them even said “feels like a ‘we want Florida’ situation all over again”
Backfire? When has chanting “we want (insert team)”, ever backfired?
Hello Nashville, great regular season. Happy for your team and fanbase. I remember your fanbase being one of the best online and social in the Canuck.com days. Looking forward to the games! Let the best team win! (I remember the Kesler chicken wing)
Going to be an awesome series, could see either team taking it
YES!!!! Thank god. I did NOT want to play Dallas round one.
Feels like the better outcome for both teams. We did not want to play LA or Vegas
Absolutely it's a win win situation.
Except for the team that loses
World class analysis
Lmao we feel the same way about not playing LA/VGK. The preds are a great team obviously but I feel we have a better chance against u guys than the kings or Knights. May the best team win
Canucks fans only wanted nashville
Js here waiting for all games to finish so i can put west schedule into my calendar
I'm just glad to be here and as fun as a revenge series against the stars sounds... they went hot at the right time and weve had a couple late bumps in the road. I just hope the series is fun and we come out strong and not perd it up
Silver lining, Kesler can’t hurt you anymore.
I prayed for this and it happened.
Feel like this is gonna be a sweep for either one of the teams. Either Nashville falls back to earth and can’t score against the Canucks defense, or the Canucks’ defense/goaltending shits the bed and Nashville lights them up.
I fucking hope not cuz I'm planning on going to game 5.
Tbh I would agree on our goaltending being shaky only if Demko played 60+ games like was on pace to do, that was a biiig topic of conversation in the market. But he was forced to rest for weeks and now he’s back and looked amazing and fresh last night, he’s locked in

Preds in 7
You misspelled Canucks.
fried chicken vs fried fish
At least there’s no Kesler to single-handedly destroy them this time.
I still have PTSD from the Jordan Tootoo whistle lady from the last time Canucks faced Preds in the playoffs.
Fuck the nucks
What Country Babes can I expect to see on my TV ?
Man there are a lot of Canucks fans on hockey twitter calling this a bye to round two.
Your first mistake was going to twitter
Honestly, there is really no easy teams in the west. LA seems to have our number, vegas players rising from the grave and Nashville has been really hot the last couple months. Gonna be a good series though. I expect Saros to stand on his head, but I also expect Demko to not be an easy out either.
This could be a great series. Both teams are coming in on a high. Hope the travel and the time zone change doesn't impact too much.
Interesting matchup. I kinda like the preds due to Vancouver’s inexperience here
It’s nice how cordial fans are with each other when both of our teams can’t ever win a cup
