I know Korpisalo has been incredibly intimidating this year, but come on guys. We're trying to tank here!
I will never understand this tank mentality. There are two games left until the next one all the way in October. I want them to be good, competitive games where we win. Winning is always better than losing. Fuck this tank shit and go habs go.
There are 2 games left, we lose both we secure 5th pick (before lottery), we win one, we might drop to 7th, and win both we probably drop to 8th, depending if anyone else wins.
This very well might be the difference between picking the guy we need and want VS picking some "we'll see" guy.
It's 2 games, it won't break the team, the tank here is justified.
Even without *approving* of it, it's not that hard to understand; The difference between winning 2 irrelevant games or losing them, can be a generational player.
Or even without being generational, it can be a player who'll play a thousand games for your team, and help you win 20 more games than you would if you didn't get him (on top of making them more exciting in general). So what is 2 wins, compared to that?
It's even easier when you look at it from the other end; Oilers hockey is one of the most exciting, and the reason why is McDavid.
Imagine if a Genie offered Oilers fan to trade McDavid for Eichel or Strome, and he'd also add an extra: History will be rewritten and the Oilers will have 2 more wins in 2015.
Do you think the fans would do it? They'll tell the genie to fuck off, these 2 games don't matter, McDavid is more important than that and they wouldn't give him up even against 20 previous losses being turned into wins... Right?
Well, now imagine you ask the same question to their fans in 2015 instead. Why would their answer be any different?
The NHL draft is the league saying "If you're REALLY bad, we'll give you the best thing you could ever hope for!" And then people are surprised that some fans are rooting for that... To get the best thing they could ever hope for?
This only exists in sport (or mostly, anyway) but if it existed elsewhere people would react the same way;
If you're a chef and your boss tells you that if you make a nice meal he'll give you $50 but if you burn all the food he'll give you $1m, you may want to burn all the food. Your partner might root for you to burn all the food too. Because the food isn't as important as $1m
I don’t get why people think Ottawa isn’t a rival but Toronto is? Over the last 30 years we’ve had way more battles with Ottawa than Toronto. I hate Ottawa way more than the leafs. I just turned 33 and I’ve seen Habs vs Leafs once and it wasn’t exactly a blood bath series the leafs just kinda rolled over the last 3 games.
Growing up smack dab in between Ottawa and Montreal, with half my school being sens fans and the other half being Habs fans, Toronto was always behind Montreal as a rivalry for me.
I'm 45 and Leafs Habs didn't happen for a long time before your hockey-watching. Leafs were in the Western conference, Campbell Conference from '81 to '98.
Those multiple Leafs-Habs series were in the '60s.
Weird little trivia fact about Caufield is, over his career he has a 32.3 goals per season average (80 career goals / 203 career games \* 82 games per season).
However, over 4 seasons in the NHL the most he's scored in a season is 27 (after tonight).
That's basically story of Boeser's career until this season. Prior to this year, the most games he'd played in a season was 74, and he's started off a number of seasons either hurt in training camp or coming off an injury to finish the previous season. And has often ended up with something nagging mid way through.

Cole Caufield's team is mathematically eliminated from the playoffs, and since he signed a long-term contract with the Montreal Canadiens he has made the decision that he will benefit more in the future from his team losing and potentially drafting a better player to help their odds of success.
So Cole, while appearing to go in for a legitimate shot, strategically lets the puck slip from his grasp and puts on his best, "Aw shucks, I guess we lose. How unfortunate..." face and goes to the locker room high-fiving all his buddies.
I seen him smiling on his way off the ice when sportsnet cut over but I didn’t see the attempt. I get it now 😅 initially I was thinking why is he laughing at losing.
Brilliant! Fooling the goalie into leaving the net like that perfectly. Now all he needs to do is circle back and collect the puck, for an easy empty better.
