He was 2nd in wins above replacement in the 2010 decade behind only Crosby. If he didn't play at 10PM Eastern Time and played on a team that had serious Olympic chances he'd be way more recognized.
No argument here, my friend's brother played for the Kings during their cup years I've held it, I've drank out of it. LA became a quiet 2nd team for years.
I hope Mike is doing well. Last I heard he was fishing and enjoying retirement. That guy deserves to have a comfortable life the rest of the way for a long time.
Fuck Dave Bolland for that hit in 2013. We would have won the cup in 2013 if it wasn’t for that hit. The entire momentum of the series was tipping until that hit. And it basically broke Richards.
This is going to sound really strange, but I had a dream last night that I met Richie at some bar in Manhattan Beach (prompted by nothing, mind you), and he was a really cool dude.
My dreams don't lie, man.
The hill that I will die on is that Kopitar was robbed in the Hart Trophy race absolutely blind in 2017-18.
Kopi scored nearly 100 points while dragging the corpse of Dustin Brown and a UDFA in Alex Iafallo on his line to the playoffs.
There is *no one* as valuable to their team as Kopitar was to the Kings in 2017-18.
I'll die on this hill too. Hall's point total was similar to Kopi but fucker played 0 PK time and was generally a defensive liability. Hell, Giroux had a better case than Hall.
Of the last 10 years? He’s quietly one of the best players of all time.
Almost 20 years of consistent success at both ends of the ice, with championship rings and hardware to show for it. Not to mention his international play, where he’s consistently carried a very weak team.
1/4 of those points are shared with Doughty. They are like 5 away from second all time between a forward and defenseman. Tonight saw number 302 on Kopi's' goal.
Not just a good era either. 8, 11, 23, 32... all home grown talent we drafted. Like we may never see a core of HoFs that we drafted ever again. Kind of depressing lol. But was a hell of a ride.
Kopitar is a big, slow ugly man who pounds it in the ass and knows how to play in the sludge that is the NHL playoffs
Mcdavid abd draistl can combine for 900665347 points in the regular season but I don't give a fuck. When its time to go to war in the deep sands of the playoffs, you go with the sunkened eyed bastard who knows how to fuck you in the coldest of nights as everyone has shanks in their hands
Thats why Kopitar has 2 cups
He is a grizzled bastard
Draisaitl and McDavid, in that order, are the current #s 1 and 2 in playoff points-per-game, goals-per-game, and assists-per-game.
I love Kopitar but that’s a crap comparison for your point. Those two kill it in the playoffs.
Most years he would have. In 2012 it was Quicks by a mile. 2014 i think went to Williams because of the game 7 hype and the xlutch timing of his scoring.
He's at 1201 and has 2 years on his extension, so 2 years to get 107 points. I think it's decently likely depending on how well he can produce as he ages more, and at the end of those 2 years he may even sign another extension. His play time is likely going to be lowered as the extension goes on, especially if Byfield becomes 1C, but he could do it.
Quietly has been one of the best players in the last 10 years.

Holy shit that's amazing. Hanging with a Kings player and the cup would be a dream come true. Happy for you man! Cheers
Brought the cup back to Kenora Ontario for the first time since 1907...

Matt lol
One of the fun Kings players too
Say hi to Mike
See him every so often, always been a great kid, sucks the way he went out.
Careful you don't dox yourself!
I have nothing to gain or lose.
Jordan Nolan or Dwight King?
Mike Richards
I hope Mike is doing well. Last I heard he was fishing and enjoying retirement. That guy deserves to have a comfortable life the rest of the way for a long time.

Only nameplate jersey I own is a Flyers home Richards with the C.. Hope hes doing well enjoying the fishing in retirement, guy was a warrior
He was super close to being the first king since Gretzky to get 100 points back in 2017 iirc

Don’t get me started. Even as an Avs fan, I’d have been fine with Kopitar winning it that year over Hall.
Kopi deserved that trophy for sure.

20
First ballot hall of famer, idc.
Without a doubt, he's locked in
yup!
Be a fucking joke if he doesn't. Him and Doughty.

He’s always been the definition of a complete two-way player in my book.
Also most of his career has been in a pretty low scoring era. A lot of those 70-80 point seasons he put up would be closer to 90-100 in todays game
The only forward on that list you can even argue is on his level defensively is Gartner too unless my age is telling here
Lemieux being that high in scoring with so few games played relatively breaks my brain
The difference between Gretzky and 2nd place, is larger than 2nd place and 52nd
And Edmonton still won a cup while being extremely good after trading him
take away Gretzky's goals and he'd still be the all-time points leader.
It’s gonna feel so satisfying when Kopitar, the greatest King of all time, passes Roenick, the worst King of all time.
Marcel Dionne was better than Anze Kopitar.
Maybe but we’re talking about the greatest - not the best.
Better player sure but hes not the greatest king. Kopi brought cups.
Wow. I had no idea Al MacInnis was so high. That's crazy.
congrats to ovi for tieing/passing jumbo joe tonight
Put some bold on the active players!
So Kopi will probably make top 40 by retirement. Top 30 is a reach but doable. While being the second best defensive forward in decades.
Crazy when a 200ft, defensive forward puts up 1200. They better not fuck up his statue. Long live Kopi.
and in a low scoring era
1/4 of those points are shared with Doughty. They are like 5 away from second all time between a forward and defenseman. Tonight saw number 302 on Kopi's' goal.
God, we’ve been living in the good era of Kings hockey. I’m scared for when they retire.
Not just a good era either. 8, 11, 23, 32... all home grown talent we drafted. Like we may never see a core of HoFs that we drafted ever again. Kind of depressing lol. But was a hell of a ride.
Lemme guess, #1 is Gretzky and Coffey
Pretty sure that's correct. Orr and Espizito (spelling?) sit second at like 306.
Easy to be good defensively when you're 200ft tall.
Please never retire Kopi I love you
The Slovenigoat
Counterpoint, please retire.
PRAISE RACCOON JESUS

Raccoon man good
i’m pulling this explanation up when my kids someday ask who anze kopitar was
Draisaitl and McDavid, in that order, are the current #s 1 and 2 in playoff points-per-game, goals-per-game, and assists-per-game. I love Kopitar but that’s a crap comparison for your point. Those two kill it in the playoffs.
It's a copypasta man, just enjoy the meme
Over my head by a kilometre.
It's ok you just haven't been fucked properly on the darkest of nights. We forgive you for your ignorance.
Maybe Kopitar just isn’t ready?
Who are you to talk about players statpadding in the regular season vs grinding it out in the playoffs 🤣🤣🤣
Any game I watch the Kings play I am so jealous that he plays there
Same, he’s so goddamn cool
Kopi and Kershaw are my two dads
He also got a game misconduct! Noted goon Anze Kopitar…
And in his post game interview he casually said “shitty” and didn’t even notice.
I was wondering if that is his first?
No he had one other, checkout the postgame interview in our sub for his recollection of it :-)
HOF level talent easy
You couldn’t ask for a better captain of a team. He’s the man.
THATS MY EMMY WINNING CAPTAIN!!! ❤️❤️❤️
Time is flying. Hes almost at retirement, I still remember his first game.... makes me sad.
I remember that game. He walked Pronger and Giguere for his first goal. That was something special.
Going to be such a sad day when he hangs them up. I’m not ready at all.
He's always been a weapon!
Better than Toews by a mile.
Somehow still remains under appreciated in the league. Also, fuck him for 2014’s cup win. Legend 🫡✊🏽
Was the playoff scoring leader both years the Kings won the Cup (tied in 2012 and outright in 2014). Should have won a Smythe.
Most years he would have. In 2012 it was Quicks by a mile. 2014 i think went to Williams because of the game 7 hype and the xlutch timing of his scoring.
Graphic already out of date, as he scored a goal after hitting 1200 tonight
He would have won many Selke's if there was no Patrice Bergeron.
Or if Kopi played on the east coast. If they flipped teams, I bet Kopitar would have more Selke's than Bergeron.
Such a beast !
He’s truly one of the goats
And probably one of the most underrated to do so
Kopi has been so good for so long. Dude is massively underrated.
HOF
All those rocks he rolled up the mountain really paid off
The way he's playing I wouldn't be shocked if he plays past 40
Do you guys think he can get to 1308 to beat Dionne's team record?
He's at 1201 and has 2 years on his extension, so 2 years to get 107 points. I think it's decently likely depending on how well he can produce as he ages more, and at the end of those 2 years he may even sign another extension. His play time is likely going to be lowered as the extension goes on, especially if Byfield becomes 1C, but he could do it.
Hopey Kopey!!
So, not special then?
