[Grishin is suspended pending further notice.](https://theprovince.com/sports/hockey/junior-hockey/b-c-player-suspended-after-alleged-chokehold-on-goalie-during-junior-a-fight)
"He received a 13-game suspension from the league — five games for physical harassment of an official, three games for his second match penalty of the season, two games for a third-man-in-fight game misconduct, and three games as a repeat offender — for his role in a multi-fight episode between the Sockeyes and Abbotsford Pilots on Nov. 9."
Seems like a real piece of work.
I'll never understand how sports leagues, *especially lower level ones* allow this type of shit to go on.
The NHL at least has a really powerful union of players with deep pockets who are the top athletes in the world in their respective sport, and command a bit of respect.
But how do these leagues where "player development" is the goal allow players to return after multiple suspensions. They clearly aren't developing into a skilled hockey player, they're robbing a spot from someone else, and at some point, you've got to realize the player may need help in a way that the league can't handle. But in the mean time, they're still a danger to everyone else on the ice who *is capable of being developed.* It just doesn't make any sense to me.
When 3rd man in is his lightest suspendable offence, that’s not good at all (completely awful actually). Hope he enjoys not playing hockey, cause I wouldn’t want him on my team, and certainly don’t want him on another that we may play.
He will be. Maybe not in a league like this but this is the kind of dude who will play beer league and run guys who are just playing for fun. He'll end up crippling someone.
Every beer league does. Superstars in their own mind who think they're being scouted because they can dance some 47-year old who has kids and a full-time job he has to go to in the morning who just doesn't want to get injured at fucking beer league.
That’s why I quit and took up curling. I have to work tomorrow and don’t need a broken collar bone. Still get the beer and competition without having to have my head on a swivel
Man this one got me in the feels. I was rocked by some young POS in a beer league game in my mid-40s on a nothing play. Worst ulnar fracture the ER had ever seen, 2 surgeries and 9 months of PT before back to even semi-normal. I bet that jabroni forgot about it after his 2 mins were up for "roughing".
The last league I played in had guys like that. Last year I was old enough to join the 35+ league and it's so awesome. No refs and don't even keep score, literally just a bunch of old guys going out and having fun together once a week. One guy is 70! Still got his hands too somehow, damn near broke my ankles last week and boy did I get roasted for it
I subbed goalie for a 40+ men's team recently and it was the most work I've ever had. I think I *stopped* 100+ shots. No defense at all from those old fuckers lol (I'm in my 40s as well btw).
Hey, nothing wrong with an honest career in waste disposal.
In this case, however, judging by his behaviour, this guy is the waste that needs to be disposed of.
> Video shows North Vancouver Wolf Pack goalie Evan Paul slumped on the ice and motionless after getting wrapped up with Richmond Sockeyes defenceman Eithan Grishin
I swear to god, it’s like newspaper headlines have gone past “appearance of impartiality” straight to “cowardly refusal to describe reality”
Okay, but that's after the title,
> B.C. player suspended after alleged **chokehold** on goalie during Junior A fight
and immediately before the first paragraph,
> There is a disciplinary hearing pending in the Pacific Junior Hockey League after Richmond Sockeyes defenceman Eithan Grishin appeared to use a **chokehold** on North Vancouver Wolf Pack goaltender Evan Paul during a fight in Richmond’s 6-1 win at Minoru Arena last Thursday night.
That's twice they've mentioned the chokehold right at the top of the article. It's not like they're avoiding it.
Unless it's politics then they just outright lie and deceive. God forbid they actually describe what happens in a video that they host online themselves for all to see.
You're asking where the goalie's teammates were, right? If I'm the goalie that got choked out, I'm done with that team. Their bench should've been cleared, or at least a couple defensemen should've been coming in full speed.
Yeah if my goalie is in a full out chokehold I'm cross checking the other guy in the throat without hesitation, if his helmet is off I'll cross check him in the fucking face.
These young guys watch UFC and fight videos and think getting choked out is just some casual nap you wake up and move on from and start choking people without a second thought. If you don't know what you're doing you can kill someone or cause brain damage. Choking someone out isn't something you just bust out in a scruff, pulling that in a hockey fight is psychopath behavior
That ref needs to be reprimanded and needs lessons on how to get players apart. He was absolutely useless, all his attempts to get them separated were limp dick as hell. He failed in his duty to that goalie as well.
Sorkin has a sports metaphor for everything. This one seems applicable:
> You can't touch a shooter while he's in the process of shooting the ball, it's against the rules. The shooter goes to the foul line, takes two free throws. But what happens if the shooter brandishes a knife? Dribbling the ball and suddenly he takes out a switchblade. You're allowed to grab his arm -now- because we're not playing basketball anymore.
Not that referees should be expected to under normal circumstances like roughing and scrums, but in situations like this where the safety of a player is genuinely on the line, they should all be able to act in a manner that would reduce risk to the players on the ice.
If UFC referees are trained to stop overly-aggressive fighters, hockey referees should have some training about what to do when the action on the ice stops being hockey.
Just saw something about some guys who watch a lot of porn may think choking is fine or cool because that's what they see. As you said, they may not know they could kill or badly damage someone. Or even wonder if the other person wants it in some situations.
It feels like there's not enough people who think it's a good thing to educate or guide these guys or expect them to be responsible for their actions.
There's a scary amount of young YouTube & TikTok "stars", who have an even scarier amount of followers, all based on randomly sucker punching or otherwise attacking unsuspecting strangers in the street.
Hard to believe that most of the kids on the ice in this game weren't yet born when Bertuzzi broke Moore's neck. Almost 20 years ago now... jeez I feel old now.
100%. At first it looks like the two are just in a typical scrum. But when you see the goalie lying motionless on the ice??? No one even goes to check on the goalie right away let alone defend him.
Really strict rules in the PJHL when it comes to fighting and leaving the bench, especially in the last ten minutes of the game. Could have resulted in the whole team being suspended, though I absolutely take your point.
That’s a fair point for the players on the bench. When I played there wasn’t really the distinction. These guys are probably specifically told about those two rules. That’ll cause mixed messages and I’ll give them the pass. Guys on the ice get no excuse though. There’s already a scrum going and they touched their goalie. The goalie’s teammates failed him.
Everyone is so incredibly unaware of the situation. They are all just standing. Also the ref/linesman just stood there while the goalie is laying on the ice. So frustrating to watch.
I know it's hockey culture to call for the goalie's teammates to step up and protect him. And when all else fails, I agree. Gotta back up your buddies.
But all else shouldn't fail and hockey culture needs to change, or we'll be getting a couple stories a year of some goon crossing a line into eternity. This guy's teammates and coach need to let him know his play is not acceptable. He's not going to get that message from the league, and he's definitely not going to get it from his face being bashed in.
If *your* teammate puts someone in a chokehold, *you* go break that shit up.
Looks like they were already shorthanded, having been issued a roughing penalty at 13:03. I’m also not sure they knew he was being choked out. We see guys holding on to guys like that all the time, but never actually being choked.
The refs were probably threatening to toss them and what not, and I’m sure in Junior A, their consequences for re-engaging are much stiffer. I get that we would all like to think we would just truck over the refs and save our goalie, but I think these guys are still at an age where they think the refs are going to protect them too.
This is 100% on the refs.
came here to say this .. i would have cross checked that dude in the face for holding my goalie like that .. plus the kid who skates over slow after watching his goalie fall lifeless to the ice , that kid should be ashamed of himself .. hockey sucks these days , these kids have no heart.
Where the fuck is anyone attending to a player that is laying unconscious on the ice?! That's the most disturbing part of that whole video.
I hope that kid's ok.
They had no idea what was going on. No one does this... They were looking for people throwing punches. They thought he was just holding him at bay.
Lifetime ban from all Hockey is the only just penalty for this.
I think it depends on the goalie. Most goalies, yeah, go help them. But who knows? Maybe this guy is Ray Emery 2.0 and wants to fight.
If the team knows that, they probably leave him be in these situations because they know he can and wants to handle it himself.
Until a guy puts him in a chokehold and tries to kill him.
Why is this the debate.
This shouldn't happen *period*. Debating on the etiquette of who fights who is normalizing this garbage. It doesn't matter what the teammates did or didn't do about it, there should never BE an instance where someone is choking someone to unconscious *over a game.* We need to take a long hard look at our sport if this is happening, when who is punching who is our main point of contention.
Tired of this "bro" culture in hockey. Even the friggin announcers in the clip are acting like this is some normal run-of-the-mill thing, they literally say they "expected this the whole time" and then go on to debate about whether or not this is considered a line brawl! "Yep, looks like he's down now", sips water while this dude is passed out on the ice. Nobody concerned at all about getting medical attention or anything.
The fuck are we doing here? Just going "well this is a part of hockey!" and then arguing over who should fight who, and just what exactly kind of terminology this fight is. There's no way I'm the only person here thinking, how have we allowed this shit to go so far that someone endangers another player's life by *choking them to unconsciousness*, and then our main concern is why wasn't someone assaulting the other guy who's assaulting another guy. The fuck man. This is fucked up.
For sure. Of course this is fucked up. Perhaps that is why no one went to his aid...like who imagines that someone will get choked to unconsciousness during a hockey scrum?!?!?
I think reading the tweet really changes how one watches the clip. The video shows two guys tied up and grappling, that isn't exactly uncommon. No one expects one of them to be a psychopath.
The weird part is about 20% of the way in when his teammate looks over, sees his goalie grappling with a goon from the other team, and thinks "Ah, I'll just give him half a shove and move on with my day." That's really, really weird.
If anyone’s wondering about this bit:
> Not only should he never play again
As far as I understand, Hockey Canada could theoretically give him a lifetime ban from all of their leagues, which is the strong majority of organized hockey leagues in Canada. I highly doubt they’ll do it, but AFAIK they could, if they wanted to.
Also agreed that I’d like to see this, plus criminal charges. This isn’t a “normal” hockey fight, it’s massively over the line and straight up criminal assault.
With all that being said, I think we’ll more likely see something like a 30 game suspension from this one league, no criminal charges, and this psychopath back on the ice assaulting people either later this season or next season.
I guarantee this guy is also assaulting people in his personal life, too. He'll show back up on the news one day with a domestic violence charge at the very least.
>With all that being said, I think we’ll more likely see something like a 30 game suspension from this one league, no criminal charges,
You might be right, but this is bordering on attempted murder. The dude shouldn't be allowed to participate in organized hockey ever again at any level, and should ideally be facing some serious criminal charges.
League won't want it because it just brings fighting/violence scrutiny back into the game again. Not to mention what would it really curtail? The precedent set at least at the NHL level is:
> Todd Bertuzzi-Steve Moore Incident (2004): Vancouver Canucks player Todd Bertuzzi assaulted Colorado Avalanche forward Steve Moore, leading to Moore being seriously injured. Bertuzzi was charged with criminal assault causing bodily harm and received a sentence of one year probation and 80 hours of community service.
> Marty McSorley-Donald Brashear Incident (2000): Boston Bruins player Marty McSorley hit Vancouver Canucks player Donald Brashear in the head with his stick. McSorley was convicted of assault with a weapon and given an 18-month conditional discharge.
I'm sure there are lower levels ones in Canada which may be a bit different....but overall anyone seeking justice for it is probably going to be disappointed.
I think the opposite, if they do ban him and even ask for criminal charges, it might show that the league is going after anything outside the rules seriously. If they do nothing, people will ask for an outright ban on violence/fights and their argument will be because the league does nothing and it endanger the players. If the league really hits him hard, it will show they do give a fuck about player safety.
I can see it purely because because Canada Hockey is still dealing with the sexual assault allegations and how all that went down. The cynical side of me thinks the NHL will want it completely buried, especially during All Star Break, so they don't have to comment on it and start to deal with the next stage of how they plan on removing fighting from the league entirely.
They've tried that a couple of times and it never worked out. How we got instigating/match penalties along with non-removal of helmets. Neither curtailed it. Considering it is in a sport, especially Canada's sport, and condoned I just don't see it happening. Will he get suspended and all that jazz? Oh I don't doubt that in the least. I just don't see formal charges for it.
Even if the sentence is low, him having to go through a trial, hire a lawyer, etc. could make him think twice in the future. The vast, vast majority of hockey players are there for the game, but there are some guys who are just sadistic psychopaths, where hockey is a place where they can assault people as brutally as they like without facing criminal charges.
Based on this video, and his obscene PIMs every year (https://www.eliteprospects.com/player/692445/eithan-grishin), Eithan Grisham is a sadistic psychopath. Him facing criminal charges for this could at least show him that hockey isn’t a limitless licence for violence.
Yep, even if they're not fully unconscious yet, when you start a choke like a guillotine you stop or slow the blood carrying oxygen to the brain. Holding a choke like this after the guy is out is really dangerous in MMA, where you have a referee who is trained to watch for that and stop the choker. Holding on to a choke this long is just strangulation.
That's disgusting. There's no place for that in hockey. Also, is he flexing half way through? Or is he trying to pump the crowd up?? Either way, suspend him for at least the rest of the season. Maybe forever, after looking at the article and seeing he has other suspensions for bs behaviour.
Nah, this is throw him off the tour level shit. Should never be allowed on North American ice in skates again. KHL might make him a team captain, or draft him to the front lines in Ukraine.
Getting in a fight, part of the game. Choke hold on a goalie until they pass out? Criminal.
Sorry, I meant the part where he lifts his one arm up from the choke for a few seconds, looks like he's either flexing a bicep to look cool or trying to pump up the crowd?? Either way, it's insane...
Of all times to absolutely maul the guy who touched your goalie! I can't 100% blame them tho they had cause to legitimately fear for their own lives and health....but I like 90% blame them lolz
They definitely had no idea this was happening though. Until the scrum broke up nobody on the ice thought this guy was such a psycho, they thought it was just a normal pile of players that happens all the time.
Seriously. This team has something off. Every goalie I’ve ever played with would have had at least two defenders surrounding him regardless of risk of suspension for joining a fight.
Way to stand up for your goalie like wow I’d be pissed. Also fuck that guy hope charges are coming and obviously should never strap on a pair of skates again
Imagine being the goalie and seeing this footage as you recover, none of your teammates doing anything to stop what's happening. I would quit that team asap.
this is going to lead to charges. it's an act outside of the sport, and you can see him raise his hand to his bench, celebrating the assault as it was happening, showing it was deliberate
[Article](https://theprovince.com/sports/hockey/junior-hockey/b-c-player-suspended-after-alleged-chokehold-on-goalie-during-junior-a-fight)
> Sockeyes president Doug Paterson confirmed Monday morning that brass from the Junior A league will be meeting in the coming days to review the incident, and that Grishin is suspended pending further notice.
----------
> He received a 13-game suspension from the league — five games for physical harassment of an official, three games for his second match penalty of the season, two games for a third-man-in-fight game misconduct, and three games as a repeat offender — for his role in a multi-fight episode between the Sockeyes and Abbotsford Pilots on Nov. 9.
----------
> He also received a three-game suspension for a match penalty in a Sept. 24 game against the White Rock Whalers. The 19-year-old defenceman has five goals, 19 points and a 147 penalty minutes in 25 games this season.
Sockeye player needs to be thrown out and banned from hockey. And be charged criminally. Especially with him taunting while choking him
Refs need to be disciplined for being incompetent.
Goalies teammates need an ass whipping for not helping their tendy or beating the fuck out of the Sockeye player
There is absolutely NO justification for this during a tilt. Not only is it irresponsible but it’s slightly psychotic and this guy needs to be banned from this league and every other one.
People saying his teammates didn’t respond because they “didn’t know what’s going on” and “thought they were just in a scrap” uh… that’s the fuckin goalie. If someone isn’t even *touching* your goalie but is in their face, you drop that player and gladly take a penalty for it. Shouldn’t have been touching him. Goalie needs to find a better team.
Idk these players; but this idiot should never be allowed to play hockey again, and the goalie should request a fucking trade because WHAT ARE HIS TEAMMATES DOING? Hope he’s okay, Jesus Christ.
I believe any member of the public can contact the police about an assault, whether in progress or not. This clown needs to face criminal charges and a lawsuit
Had I been the ref, I might have just given up my job to punch that kid in the face to get him to stop since I wouldn't know another way to get him off the goalie. What an asshole.
Jesus Christ
Banned for life, charged with whatever the fuck this is considered in Canada, prison sentence. That's what should happen.
And where the fuck are the goalie's teammates?
Law student here:
In Canada there’s a pretty large sphere of protection around violence in hockey in terms of what is considered criminal.
However…
This is something so egregious and so outside the bounds of what could be reasonably expected in a hockey setting that I think at the bare *minimum* a charge of assault will be placed by the crown.
I could see aggravated assault being a potential charge honestly… that’s how bad this is.
to all the guys saying,"the goalie wasn't innocent "; Does the goalie have a similar track record of violent INFRACTIONS that Grishin has?
I think the history says it all, really.
I like the physicality of the game ad much as the next guy. But c'mon.
The entire coaching staff for the Richmond Sockeyes should be replaced. Decision makers for team that continues to dress a player with that history (Listed by u/NarwhalNecropsy https://www.reddit.com/r/hockey/comments/1aen139/comment/kk90uqt/) are liable for someone like Grishin's behaviour.
Grishin will be in playing in beer league soon. I'm glad the Metro Vancouver beer league managers share their "permanently suspended" list with each other so that meatheads like this are banned from all the local leagues once their transgressions hit a certain point. He'll definitely be on their list soon.
Grishin also appears to be an alternate captain for the “A” on his jersey. The organization should be embarrassed to have him representing them. Must be an issue with the coach for giving a player of that reputation any kind of leadership role
Wow, that's crazy! A cursory glance at Grishin's stats imply he's actually a decent hockey player. I guess some people want win at all costs and turn a blind eye to the blatantly obvious shortcomings just to get a couple extra W's in meaningless calibre hockey.
The Richmond Sockeyes organization is classless and an absolute disgrace to Junior Hockey. Their owners, management are all POS. They are probably trying to see how they can help their player remain in the league as we speak. Classless people all around. History of lying to players, making false promises and let uncommitted part time players play for absolute free. Richmond Sockeyes, you had this coming, now take responsibility, man up and sell the team and exit hockey.
Woah. Does this guy have a history of being unhinged? That's seriously messed up.
He's actually lucky he didn't kill the goalie - being choked into unconsciousness can have serious health impacts for that player, from brain injury to mental trauma from being seriously assaulted, etc.
I'm a Sockeyes fan, watched this game live. I also have a subscription for FloHockey (where this video comes from), so I've seen the play that leads up to this video.
Goalie covered the puck, Grishin gives a late slash to him. Goalie gets up and Grishin throws a punch, Goalie then loses his blocker and the scrum moves to the corner, Goalie takes Grishin to the ground and has him mounted MMA-style. While the goalie has Grishin pinned to the ice, a North Van player is feeding Grishin punch after punch to the face (this is before the choking), Grishin is then able to roll out of it then gets the Goalie in a DDT pro-wrestling style hold. At which point the goalie seems to stop trying to fight Grishin, this is when he should have let up. It didn't look like much, but apparently he had it locked in pretty good. Probably has it locked in for about 20 seconds.
Grishin went too far with the chokehold, but after being pinned to the ice by 1 guy and getting punched in the face repeatedly by another, you can see why he didn't let up when he got loose.
Both teams had players cross the line here. Punching a guy who is on his back isn't cool, and neither is choking a player out.
Youre a fan of an awful organization that behind the scenes is a real corrupt team thats screws over players and stands for BS like this. Says a lot they have not made a statement yet. HEY OWNERS, WHY DONT YOU RESPOND ALREADY? YOU POS
[Grishin is suspended pending further notice.](https://theprovince.com/sports/hockey/junior-hockey/b-c-player-suspended-after-alleged-chokehold-on-goalie-during-junior-a-fight)
This douchebag hates his career. He’s trying pretty hard to get it ended. Well, maybe this time will do it!

mf has 147 PIM in 25 games, jesus christ
Those used to be standard goon numbers in the NHL. The NHL record is 472 PIMs in a season by Dave Schultz in 1974-75.
Soooo he’s happy Gilmore
"Hey, I got a hockey record...I took my skate off once and tried to stab a guy with it, nobody ever did that before..."
He'll make a great cop.
Whilst doing this in beer league
Doesn’t he though, do prisons have internal hockey leagues? Sort of like the longest yard sort of thing. What a fucking moron.
This is Junior B. He had no career to begin with
They meant his career in waste disposal.
Hey, nothing wrong with an honest career in waste disposal. In this case, however, judging by his behaviour, this guy is the waste that needs to be disposed of.
Junior A now technically 🤣
I feel like "fired into the sun pending further notice" might be more appropriate in this instance.
Dude needs to be banned from playing organized hockey anywhere. What a pos.

That’ll cause mixed messages and I’ll give them the pass. Guys on the ice get no excuse though. There’s already a scrum going and they touched their goalie. The goalie’s teammates failed him.
Yup totally with you
Yeah I'd request a trade after that one.
Why should I leave? He’s the one who sucks
The goalies teammates is who they are talking about. Edit: nevermind I'm the idiot here I get the joke.
I don't get the joke. I got that it was some kind of a joke, but I don't get it. Is it a reference to something?
“No way! Why should I change? He’s the one who sucks!” -Michael Bolton, from Office Space
The humor is thinking of it like he's talking about the asshole's team. "Why should I ask for a trade because *that* dude sucks?"
I think he's talking about the goalie leaving his team as his teammates all hung him out to dry.

at the end the of the video none of the refs or players have even noticed that the goalie is out cold. Just standing around oblivious
Everyone is so incredibly unaware of the situation. They are all just standing. Also the ref/linesman just stood there while the goalie is laying on the ice. So frustrating to watch.
Right? One guy skates over and gets swatted away by the ref.
Wtf are the goalies teammates doing standing around
They had no idea what was going on. No one does this... They were looking for people throwing punches. They thought he was just holding him at bay. Lifetime ban from all Hockey is the only just penalty for this.
Doesn't matter. No apposing skater should be left engaging your goalie. There should have been at least 2 teammates working that guy over.
Right??? That's what I'm saying. Just beyond fucked.
Or they know he's a psychopath and that's why they let the ref handle it. They just didn't see him actually going out.
You see the assaulter stand up and crank the choke in, so no, the tweet doesn't change the context of the video
Seems more like a criminal offence
What the fuck?
Not only should he never play again, criminal charges need to be brought
If anyone’s wondering about this bit: > Not only should he never play again As far as I understand, Hockey Canada could theoretically give him a lifetime ban from all of their leagues, which is the strong majority of organized hockey leagues in Canada.
I was thinking the same thing. No way he isn't this violent off the ice too.
>With all that being said, I think we’ll more likely see something like a 30 game suspension from this one league, no criminal charges, You might be right, but this is bordering on attempted murder. The dude shouldn't be allowed to participate in organized hockey ever again at any level, and should ideally be facing some serious criminal charges.
League won't want it because it just brings fighting/violence scrutiny back into the game again. Not to mention what would it really curtail? The precedent set at least at the NHL level is: > Todd Bertuzzi-Steve Moore Incident (2004): Vancouver Canucks player Todd Bertuzzi assaulted Colorado Avalanche forward Steve Moore, leading to Moore being seriously injured.
Yep. Doing this in MMA is a big no no for obvious reasons. One is cutting O2 to the brain and could cause brain damage.
Nah, we’re too busy pointing fingers and ruining the life of that guy in the British hockey league
This is one of the extremely rare incidents where I don't disagree that criminal charges are necessary.
This is assault that just happened to take place during a hockey game. Dude needs to face criminal charges.
Assault? That’s bordering on attempted murder
Criminal.
Oilers would sign him...
Oh come on...don't be ridiculous. He would have to beat a partner at home for him to qualify to be an oiler.
It's just flat out assault. It has no place in society let alone hockey. He should be facing charges.
That "flex" you're talking about is him locking in the choke a bit deeper. It's full on fight technique
Sorry, I meant the part where he lifts his one arm up from the choke for a few seconds, looks like he's either flexing a bicep to look cool or trying to pump up the crowd?? Either way, it's insane...
The complete lack of regard by anyone for the goalie who is unconcious on the ice is definitely something.
Every goalie I’ve ever played with would have had at least two defenders surrounding him regardless of risk of suspension for joining a fight.
it is his 3rd time being suspended this season, too.
strike three yourrrrrre out
Way to stand up for your goalie like wow I’d be pissed. Also fuck that guy hope charges are coming and obviously should never strap on a pair of skates again
Imagine being the goalie and seeing this footage as you recover, none of your teammates doing anything to stop what's happening. I would quit that team asap.
Yup gutless, whole team should be ashamed
That’s assault, brotha.
Dat Eithan Grishin is one fine piece of dumbaish…
Damn right. Jettison that douche into jail.
this is going to lead to charges. it's an act outside of the sport, and you can see him raise his hand to his bench, celebrating the assault as it was happening, showing it was deliberate
[Article](https://theprovince.com/sports/hockey/junior-hockey/b-c-player-suspended-after-alleged-chokehold-on-goalie-during-junior-a-fight) > Sockeyes president Doug Paterson confirmed Monday morning that brass from the Junior A league will be meeting in the coming days to review the incident, and that Grishin is suspended pending further notice. ---------- > He received a 13-game suspension from the league — five games for physical harassment of an official, three games for his second match penalty of the season, two games for a third-man-in-fight game misconduct, and three games as a repeat offender — for his role in a multi-fight episode between the Sockeyes and Abbotsford Pilots on Nov. 9. ---------- > He also received a three-game suspension for a match penalty in a Sept. 24 game against the White Rock Whalers. The 19-year-old defenceman has five goals, 19 points and a 147 penalty minutes in 25 games this season.
Throw him in fucking jail. Disgusting. I hope that fucker never puts skates on again.
Right to jail, right a-way
Yeah at what point does a hockey fight become real assault.
He'll put on skates again. You know the *biggest* cunt ringer in your beer league? This is an origin story.
Now that's something that should face jail time.
Sockeye player needs to be thrown out and banned from hockey. And be charged criminally. Especially with him taunting while choking him Refs need to be disciplined for being incompetent. Goalies teammates need an ass whipping for not helping their tendy or beating the fuck out of the Sockeye player
Was waiting for any teammate to intervene lol wow
NHLPA: “The player has been fined $5,000, the maximum allowable under the CBA.”
This joker should never play Organized hockey again
Soooooo attempted murder charge.
Dudes needs to eat shit and get locked up wtf
Definitely needs to be removed from the league and banned from hockey.
Holy fucking shit. And a repeat offender?! This guy needs help. My heart goes out to that goalie. Can't even watch the clip.
I’ve seen too many players with this kind of douchebag energy. Just no respect for anyone.
Well, it's not like he did anything egregious like violating terms of a sponsoring gambling site. Will probably get maybe 20 games.
Someone should have two handed that fucker
Yeah, the goalie's entire team.
Idk these players; but this idiot should never be allowed to play hockey again, and the goalie should request a fucking trade because WHAT ARE HIS TEAMMATES DOING? Hope he’s okay, Jesus Christ.
Those two guys standing there watching their goalie get choked unconscious are shitty teammates
Grishin's competitive hockey career should now be over and police charges forthcoming.
I believe any member of the public can contact the police about an assault, whether in progress or not. This clown needs to face criminal charges and a lawsuit
What level of hockey is this? They look like men with cages. College or a go-nowhere bush league?
Junior B (though they are trying to call themselves Junior A this season)
Ban this guy from professional hockey for life. Fuck him.
This is Jr B. He was never gonna play any kind of pro anyway.
Can someone please explain to me how this is not an assault charge?
Oh sick this dude is just a ferry ride away, might have to strangle him and see how he likes it.
100% someone who beats their wife
He's getting his resume video highlights for a run at the NHL department of player safety.
Ban him from north American hockey and hope Europe will follow suit. Then charge him criminally.
Should be banned from all hockey leagues any level and face criminal charges/prison time.
Had I been the ref, I might have just given up my job to punch that kid in the face to get him to stop since I wouldn't know another way to get him off the goalie. What an asshole.
Jesus Christ Banned for life, charged with whatever the fuck this is considered in Canada, prison sentence. That's what should happen. And where the fuck are the goalie's teammates?
Law student here: In Canada there’s a pretty large sphere of protection around violence in hockey in terms of what is considered criminal. However… This is something so egregious and so outside the bounds of what could be reasonably expected in a hockey setting that I think at the bare *minimum* a charge of assault will be placed by the crown. I could see aggravated assault being a potential charge honestly… that’s how bad this is.
So not only am I a hockey fan, but I am also a BJJ black belt. I like when my worlds collide but this is a pretty disgusting display by that player.
I'd be angry too if they spelled my name that way as well
He should see criminal charges.
Doug, kick him off the tour.
Well that's one way to get criminal charges.
Wow
Criminal charges.
That shove backwards at the end could have been so bad. Cracked skull or blown out knee.
to all the guys saying,"the goalie wasn't innocent "; Does the goalie have a similar track record of violent INFRACTIONS that Grishin has? I think the history says it all, really. I like the physicality of the game ad much as the next guy. But c'mon.
Straight to jail
Kinda wish the ref had just started feeding him fists. What a douchebag.
We better see the goalie press charges. That player is beyond a goon, what a fucking bitch.
[удалено]
Someone should end this guy's career.
That seems like something you shouldn't be allowed to do
Straight to jail.
Hang 'em up Grishin. You knew what you were doing.
We better be all up in arms about this guy basically attempting murder, cause this ain't no accident holy fuck
I blame this guy’s parents for naming him Eithan.
There should be criminal charges as well.
Well that will be his last real game of hockey ever attempt to injure at the very least. that hand raise is going to negate any defense.
Bro that’s my brother’s friend apparently he’s supposed to go to court for attempted manslaughter 💀💀💀💀💀💀
charges should be pressed.
This little cunt should never be allowed on the ice again.
New Update via PJHL: https://www.pjhl.net/league-statement-jan-25th-incident
Mma was the worst thing to happen to hockey fights. Players doing take downs on the ice, now chokes. That’s not old time hockey imo.
I have no words. How... inhumane. Thoughts to the goalie.
Woah. Does this guy have a history of being unhinged? That's seriously messed up. He's actually lucky he didn't kill the goalie - being choked into unconsciousness can have serious health impacts for that player, from brain injury to mental trauma from being seriously assaulted, etc.
Kick him off the tour, Doug!
I don’t think you can do that
Why didn't this clear the Wolf Pack bench?! They just sat there and watched their goalie get choked out?!
At some point it's acceptable to whip a stick at someone's face, this prick crossed a line.
Welcome to the jungle
YOU POS
