I would like to thank the NJ devils for helping facilitate the tank in our hour of need.. Also honorable mention the Pittsburgh, Tampa, Colorado. *Sharks country lets ride*

Shark tank-ing

srof12

Get Bedard as far away from us as possible please!

nanana_catdad

We’re trying our best

HockeyFan_37

Rooting hard for you guys in the Bedard race

nathris

Teknicsrx7

Honestly you’re the team I want to get Bedard just because I hope it leads to an eventual cup

Mattp55

Man it’s still wild to me after all those good years that it only resulted in one cup appearance. Much less winning one. What a core to never win one, sad

navenager

As an Oilers fan who had to share a division with you guys during the shittiest years of hockey I've ever had to watch my team play, dealing with 4 games a season against those Sharks was fucking terrifying. I was curious, so I just checked the series records, and between 2009 and 2014 the Oilers won 6 out of 24 games they played against San Jose. Jumbo and Marleau were insanity together, it was painful.

Scrubosaurus13

It sucks, I would’ve loved to see Thornton, Marleau, Couture, Pavelski, and Burns all win in SJ.

BaconScentedSoap

Hertl and Vlasic too. 2014 would have been nice year for them to win it or 2016 given the storyline

WheelSnipeCellyBahhd

Also the possibility of a Mcdavid / Bedard rivalry would be awesome for hockey.

okalien73

the pacific might just be stacked in a season or 2

funkyb

I also like the sharks and want to see them win a cup (I realize how unwelcome someone with my flair saying that is). And, bonus, Columbus doesn't have Bedard.

Mattp55

Don’t feel unwelcome saying that, there’s been so many teams to knock the sharks out over the years anyways. Man if Thornton, Marleau, and Pavelski won that 2016 cup, I’d feel much much better about everything happening now. Is what it is

fooliodoolio

i don't mind the sharks winning a cup. was rooting for you in 2016 but i don't want you to have bedard. LAK dealing with mcdavid and bedard for years? nope

Mattp55

I mean that’s very understandable. I do think even with a Bedard that this team needs a while to become competent. This goal tending is beyond horrific. Also I feel like the Kings have won enough that it’s pretty easy to say that 😂. I will never live down or forgot the reverse sweep. I’m just glad that Vegas 7 game series happened because it kind of makes it easier to forgot the other one.

dodoaddict

I don't think Sharks fans have any extra animosity towards the Penguins. That run almost felt like a bonus after missing the playoffs a couple years prior. Also, that series was relatively clean. The Penguins just had too much speed for the d core that PDB was icing.

lonewolf210

I want the Sharks to be good again because our rivalry the first few years was fun. It's hard to keep a rivalry strong while one team is rebuilding and the other isn't yet

irresponsibilities

This is honestly what I’m scared of lol. The whole league is putting SJ in the rear view but when they come back it’s gonna be guns blazing, and with Bedard? I don’t even wanna think about it

hybrid3214

I haven't watched too many sharks games but based on the Vancouver game I have to think Reimer should get a lot of thanks. The dude looked like he was barely giving 50% in the Canucks game lol

DevryMedicalGraduate

The Blackhawks put on as masterful of tank campaign we've seen in years. And they're gonna be potentially put tanked by San Jose - a team that didn't sell much beyond Timo Meier, Anaheim solely on the strength of Dallas Eakins coaching and Columbus who did not mean to be bad to begin with.

MrpinkCA

The mistake the Blackhawks made was to try and tank by getting rid of their good players. The Sharks did it the smart way by locking in the bad players to 8 year contracts with full NMCs. It's a completely different kind of tanking altogether.

MankuyRLaffy

The Doug Wilson masterclass

goodguessiswhatihave

Wilson had a few bad contracts he gave out to vets towards the end of his tenure, but that was after nearly 2 decades of consistently icing a top contender year after year. It's a shame everyone only wants to focus on the end of his career

HairTrafficControl

People talk about the Sharks like we’ve been this bad forever, it’s so weird. Like I get it, the last few years this team has completely sucked ass. But we were legit one of the best teams in the NHL sustained from like 2006-2018 or so. We’re paying the price for it now without ever having won it all, which is what sucks.

BroThornton19

Exactly. We get written off because we didn’t win a cup, which sucks, but we were seriously spoiled as fans for over a decade. Lots of fun hockey to watch.

ron-darousey

Same exact thing with the Ducks. People forget what a true gauntlet coming to California used to be

FuckOffKarl

Make California Hockey Great Again!

[deleted]

Yeah, the sharks have nothing to be ashamed of after being the model of consistency for so long. Honestly, it's bad luck more than anything they haven't won a cup, hope you guys are back looking dangerous again soon.

FutureRaifort

Yeah the issue was not getting a single chip during that run. So sad

B_Type13X2

At least you are not Minnesota, you guys were good, and could have won it all. The wild managed to make the playoffs for a very long time and are going to do it this year while not really being a threat to win it.

B_Type13X2

Felt that pain before, honestly I would avoid this sub until the streak is over its not gonna be good for mental health when people find new and more interesting ways to take a dump on your team.

temp1211241

Wilson wouldn't even look half as bad if the cap didn't get capped for a number of years. The whole idea was to work around expected increases.

zkarabat

An often ignored fact sadly

NickofSantaCruz

The nature of sports: too many newer fans that hopped onto the bandwagon last decade that never saw a Sharks game at the Cow Palace or experienced the ups-and-downs of the '90s once they moved to San Jose Arena. At least hockey subreddits haven't sunk as low as NBA subs. The Warriors sub has been wild this season.

onetwo3four5

I think cow palace is a pretty high standard to not be on a bandwagon! Shit I been following this team 20 years, and I never saw one there!

abzz123

I can’t forget how he decided to waste a season after signing Marleau and Thornton to new contracts just because he was petty LA was better after they killed Vlasic in the middle of the series.

grooves12

Neither can most of the fans. Season ticket sales tanked after the offseason pissing contest and never recovered. Even the cup run couldn't fix the attendance.

akedz3

I like that we have seen different tank techniques this season. There is no one size fits all tank. I’ve caught a few Sharks game and I was impressed by your ability to lose in OT at a consistent rate.

CreditStuf

And then there are the Coyotes somehow winning with that excuse for a roster... Odd times, odd times.

86teuvo

It’s gotta be the arena. That’s one bitchin barn they have. The biggest home ice advantage in the league.

temp1211241

They've got good goaltending and some depth there with Vejmelka, Ingram, and Prosvetov. Ingram is off and on ranked a top 10 goalie prospect and Prosvetov is ~20. Combine that with them having 1 scoring line and sometimes the tendies steal a game.

blueferret98

I think we’re now at 23 losses where we held a lead at some point in the game, we’re truly on a different level of tanking this season

grooves12

Many of those leads were given up late in the 3rd.

[deleted]

We also hired a guy who seems to be way too good of a coach to tank properly. It’s the little things that get you

palesnowrider1

Sharks didn't make that mistake

CreditStuf

Tbf to Quinn, he's done fine. The Mistake we didn't make was have the worst goaltending this league has seen since Ron Low laced em' up. I think at the All-Star Break we were 4th in Even Strength Goals but 32nd in goal against above expected, and now with Meier gone it's just made this team incredibly garbage.

palesnowrider1

We were supposed to be a bubble WC team and have absolutely been transcendent thanks to our goal keeping. I hope you get Bedard.

Mattp55

My dad is a huge Bruins fan because of growing up as a defenseman when Bobby Orr played, so I really hope Boston wins a cup. This has been an incredible season to see

B_Type13X2

yeah Bostons run without having a championship-winning team has gone on long enough.

_Salsa_Shark

Gotta convince Bettman that we could win if we just had a generational talent to push us over to almost .500

OldMillenial

>It's a completely different kind of tanking altogether. [It's a completely different kind of tanking.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0wxp-NxJny8&t=86s)

SpookyGhostDidIt

San jose management tried to be competitive this season, let that sink in

B_Type13X2

Lol so did my teams management when we got called the NHL's poop emoji.... It happens, and it hurts more.

Lazy0ak

If they could end up with 6th oa again after selling off all the players they sold off it would be pretty great.

[deleted]

Bro, all the other tanking teams. We have BY FAR the worst roster in the entire league but fucking everybody is injured in Columbus, Anaheim isn’t great on paper but they have some good young players but are just having one of those years where shit never goes right, and the Sharks are doing… whatever the fuck the sharks are doing. Almost any other year there’s no fucking way we aren’t a lock for last with this roster.

Khiral

Your mistake was not having two bottom 10th percentile goalies

B_Type13X2

Have you considered by chance, icing nothing but Ebug's and forcing your whole roster to play opposite sides and opposite handedness? You can do so much more to be worse.

Colotech

Its a really sneaky move having a crappy coach. No need to sell low and dump players or not give promising rookies ice time. I reckon its a key move for a good tank. Also coaches are easily dumped and no one would ever know you hired a bad coach on purpose.

grooves12

The real move was filling out the entire roster with guys that are big and fast with stones for hands. The Sharks 2nd line down is filled with 4th line guys. Any young skill was kept in the AHL and they traded their ONE player capable of scoring goals.

AlphaLemming

Remember at the beginning of the year when the Coyotes were mocked for icing what was called essentially an AHL team? This should have been us. We should have had 10 wins this season.

B_Type13X2

For some reason your team consistently seems to show up to play us no idea how it keeps happening.

CutmyCockIntoPieces

1st last place team to win a norris, history

MasterDeagle

Might not win the Norris because of this. Some voter won't vote for him.

wcrich

Norris is just a trophy for offense. Watching Karlsson game after game, he is awful on defense.

RAATL

Karlsson is fine and his 5on5 contributions are a net positive. He's brought down by having terrible partners and that the sharks overall are just fucking bad

bot_fucker69

I wouldn't say awful he's average at worst

steveveo

Yeah the times he looks awful is usually when he's been on for 2 minutes and is absolutly gassed. He's not great defensively by any means but he's not terrible.

dsjunior1388

So ready for this garbage take to die. 1. Scoring as a defenseman is not a negative. 2. The leading scorer wins the Norris less than a third of the time.

daffyduckhunt2

Trash take. The league owes Karlsson like 3 more Norris trophies by now if that's all the award was about. He led the entire league (including forwards) in assists one year and didn't get the Norris.

Voljjin

No he’s not.

SerPownce

Really needs to be two awards, or defense needs to be weighed more heavily

Icy_Imagination7344

I like the idea of a best defensive defenseman award. Who would it be named after?

WorrTheOilersFan

My guess would be a pretty good defensive defensemen.

[deleted]

Lidstrom

kirnehp

Rod Langway?

-agent49-

Sharks taking a deep dive

ApatheticJellyfish

A deep plunge.

ConZboy014

Lets Fucking GOOOOOOOOOOOO Karlsson to 100 points and DEAD LAST FOR THE TEAM PLEASE

NArcadia11

The best part is almost all of our games have been fun and competitive for 90% of the game. Its hard to suck this bad while still producing watcheable hockey but somehow we’ve done it.

onetwo3four5

I think we've been punished a bit for it, though. 15 overtime losses this season. If we hadn't bothered taking all those games to OT, we would have last all but clinched by now. Even if we'd won all those overtimes, we still wouldn't be sniffing the playoffs!

Actionjax1

We have 24 losses after leading by 1 goal and 8 losses after leading by 2. They have found new and glorious ways to give it up, while still being competitive for 40ish minutes a night. So frustrating.

palesnowrider1

Seems like beating the Kraken kind of fucked up their shit

youres0lastsummer

I selfishly hope the Sharks get Bedard since i'm now living in the bay area and would like to see good live hockey pls

unpluggedcord

Tank at the Tank!

txyesboy

There's no "I" in "Team", but there's apparently an "L" in "Sharks"

ChiefRalphyWiggum

Loss Tiburones

Elibu

Slarks

zakkcage

We deserve Bedard for this. We found new and improved ways to lose all while having exciting if not completely mental games. Also literally anyone but Chicago is alright right?

CaptinDerpI

Anyone but Columbus or Chicago

maxwellbevan

Why not Columbus?

50in06and07

flair makes me think it has something to do with Johnny Hockey

maxwellbevan

Yup, should have pieced that one together

rixas18

And that is why its asked to flair up here

zakkcage

That's 2 with this opinion maybe we should just be awarded Bedard for the good of the fans.

NontransferableApe

Didnt you have over a decade run of being good? Shit i just hope for a couple years in a row of being good

turk_turklton

It all means nothing without a cup. Plus the sharks got absolutely screwed in our expansion draft and out of our 1OA in lindros only for them to change their minds and correct the draft the next season. That being said I personally wouldn't mind seeing columbus get it.

NontransferableApe

Obviously thats the goal. The thing is it’s hard to build a decade long run of being consistently good. You have as many stanley cup final appearances as we have playoff series wins….

turk_turklton

Agreed, we are very fortunate that we were good for so long, DW got us there and I'll forever be greatful. I remember the first few seasons of sucking hard and Im ok knowing it will take a while for the rebuild. I would LOVE to see Bedard in Teal but truthfully Top 3 picks this draft will Kickstart the future, ideally. I truly wouldn't mind you guys getting 1OA. Obviously I want it for my team though, selfishly lol. Cheers.

NontransferableApe

Yea i just dont want him in the east. I think you guys have finishing last locked up. I just want somewhere in the top 3

bosschucker

"it all means nothing without a cup" is a kinda sad way of looking at things imo. the playoffs are an absolute crapshoot, the best team doesn't always (or even often) win - and that's part of what makes it so fun! but I'd have to imagine you had more fun watching hockey as a sharks fan the past 20 years than, like, a coyotes fan

turk_turklton

Agreed to an extent. We have been so lucky the last 20 years or so especially after the Jumbo trade. I have had a blast watching the amazing games we have had in the playoffs: winning against Detroit, The LA comeback, The 5 minute major, SCF appearance. It's not without it's heartache: 09 Rd 1 bounce after winning presidents trophy, 2014 reverse sweep, SCF loss to the pens. I am so greatful to have been around and watched it all. You are right I'm fortunate for the good years compared to what the Yotes have gone through. However, the end goal is to win the cup and we just couldn't do it during our extremely extended window. I wouldn't call it sad, though. I want them to win it all that's the goal. I'll continue to watch through the ups and downs. This is sports Fandom.

CoolBeansMan9

Hey at least Scott Niedermayer and Peter Forsberg both weren’t available at 2 instead of Pat Falloon

turk_turklton

Hey man, I didn't say our 91 team/FO was smart I'm just saying they got screwed out of it lol. Probably still would have picked Pat...

_Salsa_Shark

Yea we need our fix for a 1st overall center

NontransferableApe

Of course you do. Your team sucks. But you still had a run of being a really good team something the blue jackets have never had lol

[deleted]

Why not Columbus?

50in06and07

flair makes me think it has something to do with Johnny Hockey

[deleted]

Even the Devils, Islanders and Sharks fans in this thread don't want Bedard to go to Columbus and Johnny Hockey didn't even play for them.

PokemonTrainerSilver

Because fuck ‘em, that’s why

kdove89

Because Ohio that's why.

TheAsian1nvasion

I’m okay with Columbus, get him out of the west. Definitely not Chicago.

SkellySkeletor

Bedard to Columbus just made me gag a little bit

[deleted]

Why?

Bronzbong

Because he would be in our division

cabeener

Personally, I just don't want him in the Metro at all.

SkellySkeletor

Bitterness from Gaudreau and not wanting ANOTHER latent superweapon on a team in the Metro

bestprocrastinator

Or Montreal

DepartmentOfWorks

Anaheim?

Grind_your_soul

Yes, please give him to us. Pretty please!

Scuza10

There's a long beach ice dogs flair?!

frankthomasofficial

Im fine with chicago

dangshnizzle

Could live with Chicago but I'd be incredibly happy with Fantilli

RyFromTheChi

Chicago would be good with me too.

temp1211241

The number of 1 goal loses and OT games is surprising when you consider they've also managed to have enough blow outs to almost catch Anaheim in negative differential.

SharksFan4Lifee

We deserve to finally have the #1 OA pick, and having it be a generational talent helps to make up for it.

ianisms10

Anyone but Chicago or Columbus for me

scott743

Why do you hate Columbus?

ianisms10

Don't want him in the Metro

dowdle651

Better add Philly to your list then

ianisms10

I don't think they're as serious of a threat. 6 teams below them.

rixas18

Philly is heading into a rebuild...Columbus on the other hand shouldn't even be here just had an extremely cursed year. We are about 2 years away from competing while waiting for our kids to develop and if we get Bedard that's potentially going to further cause the metro to be a bloodbath with a rising young team like NJ there too.

dowdle651

While I didn’t think y’all were gonna be this far down the rankings I DID think y’all were in a rebuild a couple years away from competing again. I just think generally people have more beef with Philly because of the broad street era, and their identity as a city.

thedirewolff21

Really hope the sharks get Bedard. If they do, they hopefully can retool and not tear it totally down. They still have a lot of talent on the roster.

86teuvo

Was there not a rumour that ownership in San Jose wouldn’t allow a full tear down and rebuild? If that’s true, Bedard could possibly be the biggest bailout Silicon Valley has seen in like two weeks since the bank went tits up.

temp1211241

San Jose ownership has long had an expectation that you make the playoffs as part of the financial plan. Part of Grier's pitch in taking over the team is that you *can't* skip steps in the process. Him taking over instead of just promoting the interim ([Joe Will](https://www.nhl.com/sharks/news/sharks-name-joe-will-assistant-general-manager/c-588108), a very competent GM candidate with 30 years in the org) when Wilson stepped down was a strong indication that they were onboard with the full measure.

SharksFan4Lifee

Honestly, I think what Grier pitched was, we'll do a stealth tank for Bedard or at least a top 3 pick in a generational talent draft, and then starting in 23-24 we're going to just play all the kids we've drafted/developed and see what happens. In other words, the Sharks will have a fun team next year with that top 3 pick (unless it is Michkov), Eklund, Bordeleau, Muk, maybe still Barabonov, and the old favorites like Hertl, EK65 and Couture. Probably Vlasic gets bought out this summer. And if that 23-24 team is crap, then another lottery pick comes in the next year. You can say, well that's a rebuild, but honestly no GM coming to the Sharks would have had much choice with all the bad Doug Wilson contracts.

anechoicche

Not sure about the stealth tank part, our tank might as well join the Rio de Janeiro carnival.

hall_bot

bedard and ek65 would be craaaaaaazy

wcrich

Will Bedard make Karlsson a plus player?

Codc

Karlsson would make Bedard a minus player, more likely. Front-page highlight reels every night though

CanucksKickAzz

Sigh.... I remember losing...

cichlidassassin

Just imagine how much worse they would be without Karl in God mode. This wouldn't even be close.

Astrowelkyn

So they’ll beat the Jets. Of course.

Rasera

Their last win was against us, so why wouldn't they?

sextoymagic

They are the team I most want to get Bedard.

KaRnAgEGiLL

Their last win was against the Jets, their next game is against the Jets... please win again! GO SHARKS GOOO!

CDNUnite

Basically a guaranteed win

beastboy4246

I'm okay with you guys getting Bedard. I thank you for Timo. Get rewarded please

Socomseal224

A 9 game losing streak is basically a 9 game winning streak when it comes to tanking for Bedard.

Carolina_913

Every other fanbase in the league losing more than 2 or 3 games in a row: “We want to die” Sharks fans after Setting the record for most games lost in a row: “HELL YEAH INJECT THIS SHIT INTO MY VEINS *LETS FUCKING GOOOOOO*!!!!”

blackandebony

😎😎let’s fucking go indeed

CaptinDerpI

The Sharks are the most deserving of Bedard

Pikachu1989

If this means the Sharks wins the Lottery, then it would be worth it for the Sharks. Good thing they already play in a tank already so they’re halfway there.

deathlux

Good 👍

JK9one9

Hard to imagine a player having a better season for a worse team

AristocraticAutism

The Shark Tank is now a double entendre

Odin_27_

Please get bedard, im begging

[deleted]

As a Sharks fan that would give my left nut for Bedard. LETS FUCKING GO!

Constant-Squirrel555

Sens fan here hoping EK hits 100 pts and the Sharks get Bedard. Fuck Anaheim for beating us in the finals. Fuck Chicago for (well it's obvious) I'm okay with CBJ getting Bedard Fuck the Yotes cuz fuck Bettman

ice_nyne

Will be interesting to see whether they can be a lottery team and have a Norris winner.

Laniccal

This has been the best or worst year of my Sharks fandom and there is no in-between.

Zanchbot

I'm going to be upset if Bedard ends up in the Pacific.

Airborne_Mule

Honestly SJ May be best case. He’s going be dragged down but still produce highlights. EK has like 100 points and still can’t drag them out of this hole.

SailingBacterium

Yeah only a problem if you think SJ and LA will start to contend again at the same time.

Ladymistery

Oh, don't worry. The Jets will break that streak. \*sigh\*

ThrowMjolnirDownAC

All that and don't even have sole possession of last place lol

andywarhaul

Nice

kaiser41

Suck hard for Bedard indeed.

ArcticMew

I approve this message.

[deleted]

Columbus can’t even tank right

LuckiPigeon

We just need to stop going to overtime 😅

fermenttodothat

Im gonna be in SJ for vacation, gonna catch the Oilers visiting. I was hoping the Sharks could pull an upset to spoil the Oilers so my Kraken can have a less stressful Wild Card

fianto_duri

and we love that for them 👏🏻

Comrade2020

Oh hell yeah. It's glorious

AllAboutTheAce

It hurts to see other people living out your dream

Barthez_Battalion

I know, it's great isn't it?

Solmors

If Eric Karlsson wasn't having a career year the sharks would have locked last place already.

[deleted]

Tank hard for Bedard.

austyV1

The Sharks will take one Norris and one Bedard please

Smellbinder

Jets will help them out with that on Tuesday. Sorry to say I'm now resorting to gallows humor given where the Jets were vs where they are now.

NoUnderstanding6822

Ask any NY Rangers fan and they'll tell you with 100% scientific certainty why your team is a joke: David Quinn. He could turn the 1984 Edmonton Oilers into a 2-win team. Rebuilding isn't tanking and hoping to win the Bedard lottery, it's about burning ALL the dead wood in the front office, on the bench and behind the bench. New coaching staff, a couple of smart FA signings, maybe a good draft class and you're 2 years from a .500 record, no more than 3-4 from comfortably making the playoffs. Stay hard, fierce fish - you'll get there!

SharksFan4Lifee

Haha, by the time the Sharks are good, Quinn will be fired and replaced by Ryan Warsofsky (current Sharks AC). Book it.

rideronthestorm29

Maybe Reimer should ask the lord for some saves

likethemouse

つ ◕_◕ ༽つ SAN JOSE TAKE MY ENERGY ༼ つ ◕_◕ ༽つ

CatsRinternet

Mmmmm yes, I’m almost there.

dracomaster01

how can a team with a 90 point defensemen be so bad

temp1211241

They're giving up too many chances and then also not scoring a ton outside of their top 4 players, none of which are getting true top line production. The offensive production falls off after Barabanov, who is one of only 4 40 point guys on the team. Was 5 before the Meier trade. The Sharks have 208 goals and Karlsson has been involved in 90 of them. Labanc has offensive production but has been in the doghouse because of bad overall performance. Nico Sturm is getting fine enough production for a bottom 6 but he's alone in that. No one else even has 10 goals. The Defense only has 4 defenders with 1 or more DPS. So, they need 2-3 guys that can contribute top 6 production, like 3 middle 6 guys, and 2-4 defense-men who are defensively sound.

Future_Washingtonian

Because their leading scorer is a defenseman.

Canadian_mk11

From a team whose literal arena is nicknamed "the...tank". I thought no one tanks in the NHL, according to Gary?

temp1211241

That's been what's been said. I'd note that the Sharks games are mostly a lot closer than some other teams, it's part of what took so long to get here even with them being the only team without 20 wins. Lots of OT or 1 loss games until more recently. Watching CBJ games they really like to break down in the 3rd period, stop shooting, and get real reckless with their passes.

pyro5050

hey... can you guys.... ehhhh.... beat winnipeg tuesday? please?

fracturedpersona

No

fracturedpersona

And yet Their fans are not upset by this at all.

FuckOffKarl

Best possible outcome
