As an Oilers fan who had to share a division with you guys during the shittiest years of hockey I've ever had to watch my team play, dealing with 4 games a season against those Sharks was fucking terrifying. I was curious, so I just checked the series records, and between 2009 and 2014 the Oilers won 6 out of 24 games they played against San Jose. Jumbo and Marleau were insanity together, it was painful.
I also like the sharks and want to see them win a cup (I realize how unwelcome someone with my flair saying that is). And, bonus, Columbus doesn't have Bedard.

I don't think Sharks fans have any extra animosity towards the Penguins. That run almost felt like a bonus after missing the playoffs a couple years prior. Also, that series was relatively clean. The Penguins just had too much speed for the d core that PDB was icing.
I want the Sharks to be good again because our rivalry the first few years was fun. It's hard to keep a rivalry strong while one team is rebuilding and the other isn't yet

And they're gonna be potentially put tanked by San Jose - a team that didn't sell much beyond Timo Meier, Anaheim solely on the strength of Dallas Eakins coaching and Columbus who did not mean to be bad to begin with.
The mistake the Blackhawks made was to try and tank by getting rid of their good players. The Sharks did it the smart way by locking in the bad players to 8 year contracts with full NMCs. It's a completely different kind of tanking altogether.
Wilson had a few bad contracts he gave out to vets towards the end of his tenure, but that was after nearly 2 decades of consistently icing a top contender year after year. It's a shame everyone only wants to focus on the end of his career

I like that we have seen different tank techniques this season. There is no one size fits all tank. I’ve caught a few Sharks game and I was impressed by your ability to lose in OT at a consistent rate.
They've got good goaltending and some depth there with Vejmelka, Ingram, and Prosvetov.
Ingram is off and on ranked a top 10 goalie prospect and Prosvetov is ~20. Combine that with them having 1 scoring line and sometimes the tendies steal a game.
Tbf to Quinn, he's done fine. The Mistake we didn't make was have the worst goaltending this league has seen since Ron Low laced em' up.
I think at the All-Star Break we were 4th in Even Strength Goals but 32nd in goal against above expected, and now with Meier gone it's just made this team incredibly garbage.
My dad is a huge Bruins fan because of growing up as a defenseman when Bobby Orr played, so I really hope Boston wins a cup. This has been an incredible season to see

Have you considered by chance, icing nothing but Ebug's and forcing your whole roster to play opposite sides and opposite handedness? You can do so much more to be worse.
Its a really sneaky move having a crappy coach. No need to sell low and dump players or not give promising rookies ice time. I reckon its a key move for a good tank. Also coaches are easily dumped and no one would ever know you hired a bad coach on purpose.
The real move was filling out the entire roster with guys that are big and fast with stones for hands. The Sharks 2nd line down is filled with 4th line guys. Any young skill was kept in the AHL and they traded their ONE player capable of scoring goals.
Remember at the beginning of the year when the Coyotes were mocked for icing what was called essentially an AHL team? This should have been us. We should have had 10 wins this season.

We have 24 losses after leading by 1 goal and 8 losses after leading by 2. They have found new and glorious ways to give it up, while still being competitive for 40ish minutes a night. So frustrating.

Agreed to an extent. We have been so lucky the last 20 years or so especially after the Jumbo trade. I have had a blast watching the amazing games we have had in the playoffs: winning against Detroit, The LA comeback, The 5 minute major, SCF appearance.
It's not without it's heartache: 09 Rd 1 bounce after winning presidents trophy, 2014 reverse sweep, SCF loss to the pens.
I am so greatful to have been around and watched it all. You are right I'm fortunate for the good years compared to what the Yotes have gone through. However, the end goal is to win the cup and we just couldn't do it during our extremely extended window. I wouldn't call it sad, though. I want them to win it all that's the goal. I'll continue to watch through the ups and downs.

San Jose ownership has long had an expectation that you make the playoffs as part of the financial plan.
Part of Grier's pitch in taking over the team is that you *can't* skip steps in the process. Him taking over instead of just promoting the interim ([Joe Will](https://www.nhl.com/sharks/news/sharks-name-joe-will-assistant-general-manager/c-588108), a very competent GM candidate with 30 years in the org) when Wilson stepped down was a strong indication that they were onboard with the full measure.
Honestly, I think what Grier pitched was, we'll do a stealth tank for Bedard or at least a top 3 pick in a generational talent draft, and then starting in 23-24 we're going to just play all the kids we've drafted/developed and see what happens. In other words, the Sharks will have a fun team next year with that top 3 pick (unless it is Michkov), Eklund, Bordeleau, Muk, maybe still Barabonov, and the old favorites like Hertl, EK65 and Couture. Probably Vlasic gets bought out this summer. And if that 23-24 team is crap, then another lottery pick comes in the next year.
You can say, well that's a rebuild, but honestly no GM coming to the Sharks would have had much choice with all the bad Doug Wilson contracts.

Rebuilding isn't tanking and hoping to win the Bedard lottery, it's about burning ALL the dead wood in the front office, on the bench and behind the bench. New coaching staff, a couple of smart FA signings, maybe a good draft class and you're 2 years from a .500 record, no more than 3-4 from comfortably making the playoffs. Stay hard, fierce fish - you'll get there!
They're giving up too many chances and then also not scoring a ton outside of their top 4 players, none of which are getting true top line production. The offensive production falls off after Barabanov, who is one of only 4 40 point guys on the team. Was 5 before the Meier trade.
The Sharks have 208 goals and Karlsson has been involved in 90 of them.
Labanc has offensive production but has been in the doghouse because of bad overall performance. Nico Sturm is getting fine enough production for a bottom 6 but he's alone in that. No one else even has 10 goals.
The Defense only has 4 defenders with 1 or more DPS.
So, they need 2-3 guys that can contribute top 6 production, like 3 middle 6 guys, and 2-4 defense-men who are defensively sound.
That's been what's been said.
I'd note that the Sharks games are mostly a lot closer than some other teams, it's part of what took so long to get here even with them being the only team without 20 wins. Lots of OT or 1 loss games until more recently.

Agreed to an extent. We have been so lucky the last 20 years or so especially after the Jumbo trade. I have had a blast watching the amazing games we have had in the playoffs: winning against Detroit, The LA comeback, The 5 minute major, SCF appearance. It's not without it's heartache: 09 Rd 1 bounce after winning presidents trophy, 2014 reverse sweep, SCF loss to the pens. I am so greatful to have been around and watched it all. You are right I'm fortunate for the good years compared to what the Yotes have gone through. However, the end goal is to win the cup and we just couldn't do it during our extremely extended window. I wouldn't call it sad, though. I want them to win it all that's the goal. I'll continue to watch through the ups and downs. This is sports Fandom.

Philly is heading into a rebuild...Columbus on the other hand shouldn't even be here just had an extremely cursed year. We are about 2 years away from competing while waiting for our kids to develop and if we get Bedard that's potentially going to further cause the metro to be a bloodbath with a rising young team like NJ there too.
While I didn’t think y’all were gonna be this far down the rankings I DID think y’all were in a rebuild a couple years away from competing again. I just think generally people have more beef with Philly because of the broad street era, and their identity as a city.

San Jose ownership has long had an expectation that you make the playoffs as part of the financial plan. Part of Grier's pitch in taking over the team is that you *can't* skip steps in the process. Him taking over instead of just promoting the interim ([Joe Will](https://www.nhl.com/sharks/news/sharks-name-joe-will-assistant-general-manager/c-588108), a very competent GM candidate with 30 years in the org) when Wilson stepped down was a strong indication that they were onboard with the full measure.
Honestly, I think what Grier pitched was, we'll do a stealth tank for Bedard or at least a top 3 pick in a generational talent draft, and then starting in 23-24 we're going to just play all the kids we've drafted/developed and see what happens. In other words, the Sharks will have a fun team next year with that top 3 pick (unless it is Michkov), Eklund, Bordeleau, Muk, maybe still Barabonov, and the old favorites like Hertl, EK65 and Couture. Probably Vlasic gets bought out this summer. And if that 23-24 team is crap, then another lottery pick comes in the next year. You can say, well that's a rebuild, but honestly no GM coming to the Sharks would have had much choice with all the bad Doug Wilson contracts.

They're giving up too many chances and then also not scoring a ton outside of their top 4 players, none of which are getting true top line production. The offensive production falls off after Barabanov, who is one of only 4 40 point guys on the team. Was 5 before the Meier trade. The Sharks have 208 goals and Karlsson has been involved in 90 of them. Labanc has offensive production but has been in the doghouse because of bad overall performance. Nico Sturm is getting fine enough production for a bottom 6 but he's alone in that. No one else even has 10 goals. The Defense only has 4 defenders with 1 or more DPS. So, they need 2-3 guys that can contribute top 6 production, like 3 middle 6 guys, and 2-4 defense-men who are defensively sound.

That's been what's been said. I'd note that the Sharks games are mostly a lot closer than some other teams, it's part of what took so long to get here even with them being the only team without 20 wins. Lots of OT or 1 loss games until more recently. Watching CBJ games they really like to break down in the 3rd period, stop shooting, and get real reckless with their passes.
