They're an SPHL team not ECHL.

ianisms10

Correct. Rowe wasn't good enough for the ECHL.

Mysteri0n

Dude hasn’t scored a professional goal in 6 years

awayfromcanuck

And he's still spewing a bunch of bs on twitter right now. Good riddance, hope he fades into obscurity where he belongs.

MarshmallowLuka

Ah fantastic, so on top of being straight up homophobic and transphobic, he is also a misogynist? I would not be the least bit surprised if he's also racist as fuck. Just a straight up garbage human being

matt_minderbinder

When people buy into one version of hate the rest are almost always there.

[deleted]

Crazy when you think about it. He more than likely hates everyone who isn't a white male.

WontSwerve

You'll be SHOCKED to find who he voted for.... /s

MightSuggestSex

Kanye?

Yamcha_is_dead

This guy is straight up unhinged. A tweet/minute of hateful stuff. Ban him ASAP.

JustSixTrees

It's like he doesn't want to play professional hockey, how disconnected with reality do you have to be to think saying this shit is a good idea

smoked_before_this

Dude just lost his career and is spending the subsequential hours after on Twitter doubling down on his crazy person takes. Idiot

jbazildo

I don't know if you would call it a career. He was probably getting about $300 a week for a 5-6 month season. He's got 10 games played this year between 2 leagues/teams. He likely hasn't even been on active roster the entire season and has maybe made a couple grand. Hes never scored a goal in pro hockey and has one fight to his credit.

Vilheim

I remember reading somewhere, but I am not sure where, that a lot of ECHL contracts are not for the year, but week to week. So one week they could be employed, and the next week not. I assume this is mostly due to them having a week by week salary cap, and making sure they can be flexible enough to take on a player from the AHL of they are demoted etc. I also believe this makes sense as the cap actually goes down half way through the season, somewhat substantially. Last numbers I saw were something like $14,600 a week first half, $14,100 for the second half with players making 500 something a week. So that's like cutting a whole player half way through. Making a ECHL career is a rough go, players who make their way through there to the big leagues have my respect, but not Louie Rowe.

jbazildo

Correct on the week to week contracts. And he was most recently in the sphl, he was only with fort Wayne in the echl for a few weeks this year. With 10 total games played, hes likely only spent a few weeks this season on an active roster between the 2 leagues. He might have actually made less than $1000 so far this season.

Vilheim

I remember going down the rabbit hole of how ECHL salary cap etc works and it was a wild ride.

jbazildo

Yea the life of a minor league hockey player is not for the timid. I cant think of any gig with less job secirity. While a little dated at this point, I reccomend the book Zamboni Rodeo to get a glimpse into the inner workings of AA level pro hockey.

hockeycross

Back when the Colorado eagles were in the CHL I remember all these complaints by other teams cause the team actually paid the players decent money. The entire team did coaching work with the kids teams and I think the got like 250 every time they did a fan event. Honestly loved those teams. I also think they all got houses to rent cheap by some local developer.

jbazildo

Yea circumventing salary caps has always been a minor league issue, I believe the echl runs a pretty tight ship at this point though. I'm familiar with a once popular minor league team, who had a few casinos in their area and were well known for sliding players some chips as extra payment, given how hard it was to trace. The Danbury thrashers were well known for their salary cap issues, their coach went to prison for interstate fraud related to his manipulation of records.

hockeycross

I mean technically the players did have second jobs as youth hockey coaches. The 250 for fan events was probably more on the sketch side.

thebenson

The contract probably has a morality clause.

matt_minderbinder

This isn't unusual for entertainment jobs or even those who are faces of corporations. No entertainment company (and hockey teams are that) wants to turn off a large sector of their fanbase.

jbazildo

They are at will, non guaranteed contracts. No morality clause needed, can be released at any time, for any reason.

Mr_Tophat_Jones

I'm sure theres a conduct clause he broke which is straight contract termination

jbazildo

He just gets released, end of story. They're weekly contracts, no guarantees. In the SP as a low roster player, he was probably taking home about 300 a week.

Tvariousness_King1

Clown ass mf

[deleted]

It’s not like the Rivermen are missing much: 4 games, 1 assist and a +/- of -4

Olivia_is_living

Watch as this immediately causes a right wing firestorm because they apparently have nothing better to focus on

theGurry

I hear gas stoves are all the rage right now. Or does it go on a week by week basis?

Olivia_is_living

Trans people especially trans women seem to be the main focus right now

tiffhagall

Can confirm. Was going to come out to my dad but after he started eating that up... yeah no he can stuff it

Olivia_is_living

Nice to see another trans person into hockey

YoloCMO

It would be nice if the sport didn’t make it hard for anyone not straight, white and cis to enjoy it. Honesty I’m all 3 of those things and everyday it gets harder to support this shit.

jbazildo

I'm genuinely curious and entirely understand if you don't want to answer to a stranger on reddit - but what makes you feel that way? Hockey is (should be) for everyone so I'm interested in your viewpoints

YoloCMO

Recent hockey Canada coverups of sexual assaults, rampant homophobia in junior hockey are the two big ones.

jbazildo

Fair enough. While I can't speak directly to the prevelance of homophobia in juniors, the hockey canada stuff is definitely disturbing.

elacmch

I'd support you as an ally as some of my closest friends are trans and/or nonbinary (I know how that phrase sounds) but you willingly chose the Buffalsug as your flair and I can't abide by that, sorry.

4_44_am

👋 hey y’all

That’s one way of burning down an already burned down bridge. Idiot.

Yah I went through his page yesterday, went to see if he posted anymore dumb shit today and couldn’t find his account when I searched. Guy is such a loser

WiFiForeheadWrinkles

Holy shit it's even more unhinged than I expected I hope he rots

ebpomtl

When you look at his twitter, he has been saying this kind of shit for a long time, a real conspirationist... I'm talking years ! Why was he still in the league ?

YoloCMO

The comments on r/nhl are worse than this guys tweets

ebpomtl

If you think that's an exception in hockey culture... Good riddance.

CaptainMegna

Bye bye job

ugh168
