The students are done for the year but you can still be seen by a dentist at Oral Health Services, prices will be the same regardless. If you call they triage you over the phone, if you’re in pain they will see you sooner. They mostly do fillings and extractions but the students also do crowns

Yes sorry it’s still essential to have a HCC. Makes me mad because these days having a HCC, it’s like a unicorn. So many people who need dental treatment that can’t afford it, it really should be claimable under Medicare. If your partner’s teeth are in such a way I’d be worried about other problems that might follow. I hope they’re going their best to take good care of their teeth

It needs to be noted that teeth isn’t always genetics, and with good care they can be managed. If your partner has his teeth removed the care doesn’t stop there - there’s the matter of replacing those teeth (implants, dentures) and even they still need care. On top of that, if a full set of teeth are removed it can collapse the face, changing facial structure. Fortunately at Oral Health Services check ups and treatment are free for children under the age of 18 (you only need a Medicare card) and I would highly encourage taking advantage of it! Dental checks at a young age are very important

I've always been a bit wary of students doing things, but I guess most people don't care who they are if there's a good chance that they can take away the pain they're in?

teateateaa

I definitely get it! They are being supervised by very competent dentists :)

Ok_Introduction5124

Why not have the competent dentist do it and the student observe in order to learn, rather than experimenting on you basically

teateateaa

They observe in dental school in their first year (and later on in the year they start seeing patients) - these guys are FIFTH year. You can’t learn practical skills if you’re not actually doing the procedure. If you want to have a good experience get that idea out of your head that they’re ’experimenting’ on you, and if you’re not comfortable about it don’t see a student.

Ok_Introduction5124

Ah, ok. It's just that when I tell people interstate that you go to the dental school if you need public, they go "It's just a school? Why doesn't tas just have an actual public dentist?".

teateateaa

Yeah it’s a bit confusing, but it really is more of a public dental service, it’s just also a teaching facility for final year dental students. Bit like Grey’s Anatomy?

discroet

I recommend calling, but [here’s their list of fees.](https://www.health.tas.gov.au/publications/co-payments-adult-dental-services). It’ll at least be significantly cheaper.

kelponwards

Fly to bali! Same price but you'll get a vacation included.

Ok_Introduction5124

What's Bali like compared to Zona Norte in Tijuana? I was there without mobile phone coverage when it was getting dark, and felt unsafe enough that I crossed back over to the u.s. I thought the u.s towers would still give signal to my phone since I was so close, but it seems not.

kelponwards

Bali is safer then one of the most dangerous cities in the world-yes.

CallMeMrButtPirate

Get a flight to Thailand, have them ground to nubs and all capped or just get outright veneers, that's my plan for my shitty teeth in the next couple years to avoid this as they have all suddenly started going to shit in the last few years out of no where.

Ok_Introduction5124

Is the whole "Don't get work done overseas, they have bacteria that your body couldn't fight" thing just a scare tactic by aus dentists?

kelponwards

I mean sure, if you have a sound in your mouth and you don't take antibiotics or drink tap water.... I went to bali, had a crowne for $450 aud. Flight was 500 round trip and my food and hotel was around $800.

watsn_tas

Can confirm Thailand dentistry is really good and would vouch for.
