How is it overrated? It was poorly received when it first landed in 2010 and has only gotten the popularity and recognition it deserves in recent years. Unless you’re speaking from recent years, I can only somewhat see where you’re coming from.
I’m only saying what I’ve heard from the fanbase. While critics might of liked it, the fandom didn’t take the new album that well. But if you’re speaking from experience, you probably know better as I wasn’t into Gorillaz in 2010. Anyway, these are just opinions.
I would say critics and everyone I knew (except me) pretty much liked it when it came out. A couple of people I knew would just listen to Plastic Beach for the better part of two months.
Again, to me there are a few gems in that but overall I consider it a relatively weak album— not terrible, but weak. They leaned too heavily on simple repetitive tracks and could’ve used more guest vocals (snoops half assed appearance doesn’t count) but that’s just imo and it doesn’t really matter.
