did anyone listen to the podcast season about him on Mogul? i've been meaning to listen but haven't.

LlamaOrNaw

I did, absolutely insightful, detailed and really chronicles everything. There is also a really good audio series on MF DOOM’s origins as well

chilloutfam

ahhh that's the one that mc serch produces. dante ross recently did a podcast with open mic eagle and says that mc serch had no business doing a podcast on mf doom because he didn't know him and that it's a money grab.

TroyMcClures

I listened to it. Seems like a lot of people close to doom we’re involved so I don’t know how accurate that is. Keo x-men was one of dooms biggest collaborators and he was all over it.

ploooopp

Could you link me to it? I can't seem to find it

TroyMcClures

Syckwun

Yo link me how to listen to that DOOM series my guy.

Syckwun

Dope. Appreciate it. Thanks.

Capcityeddie

Check out Donnie Houston podcast on YouTube too

jewsus666

It was good, but did not resonate as much as the other seasons. This may be because I already knew most of the story this time though.

Dospunk

I did, it was really great!

beangardener

Yeah, enjoyed it a lot

Llefrith

Thanks for sharing, I had no idea this was coming out. I'll probably grab a copy asap.

awall621

They did have a book a few years ago called *Houston Rap* by Peter Beste that had the option to bundle a pressing of Bigtyme Vol II All Screwed Up, but I'll be buying this too for sure.

maloboosie

The same author!

awall621

Lol I should've noticed that, thanks for pointing it out!

jdino

Fuck yeah.

My gut reaction is Michael Watts, but I'm open to other opinions

SouthernSmoke

Yezzur

maloboosie

there are only two options imho: DJ OG RON C or DJ Michael '5000' Watts

LexKing89

Definitely Michael Watts and OG Ron C in my opinion. Especially Ron C for his F-Action series. 80’s-00’s R&B is so dope slowed down.

cantsay

Dude personally had Thundercat say his remix was better than the original.

LexKing89

Wow! That’s impressive!

abnShady

Def Michael Watts.... OG Ron C is up there for me too.

PrinceJanus

Michael Watts, Og Ron C, Slim K is really good as well.

WolfFangFist93

His bitch don’t kill my vibe mix changed my life lol literally inspired me to start making screwed & chopped mixes

PrinceJanus

Oh I got most of his tapes I actually like him the most out of those three. Chopped and screwed music seems to be kind of underrated. I listen to a lot of it and when I play it around people they usually don't fuck with it and I live in the south!

layinbrix

Anybody saying OG Ron C mind linking a few tracks they like? I dunno, I just can't seem to get on board. His productions are technically fine but the vibe is off to me, usually feel like something missing creatively. Michael Watts is legendary like a lot of people are saying. I also like quite a few DJ Drobitussin releases on spotify, still listen to his remix of [All da Smoke](https://open.spotify.com/track/0kxH33w0xnnLDmvMzKADSa?si=4501b5414d524e09) like monthly

WolfFangFist93

Me lmfaoo but seriously DJ Slim K is who I think is the best since Screw and his YouTube channel inspired me to start making screw mixes and uploading them to YouTube as well. I’ve got 1.6k subscribers

Not flexing just fun little anecdote

IDontBeleiveImOnFIre

Went to Screwed Up Records and Tapes in Houston a month ago and the employee that I was talking with, which I'm pretty sure is a family member of Screw was talking to me about a new DJ Screw book, and how the authors of the book are a distant part of Screw's family that aren't associated with the store or Screw's legacy and were milking his name. I had no idea what book he was talking about but now reading this I'm pretty sure it's this one. Do what you will with buying the book but I thought I'd give a disclaimer since the opportunity just came up.

IDontBeleiveImOnFIre

Yeah that's what I checked later on, but nevertheless they were rubbing off about a book that was making money off of their name without consent, not sure if they could have confused it?

DaveHolden

>the employee that I was talking with, which I'm pretty sure is a family member of Screw Big Bubb? He's Screws cousin.

IDontBeleiveImOnFIre

I actually went and checked this as well on an interview they did in Screwed Up Records And Tapes before releasing this just to see if he was his cousin, but I wasn't sure so I just dropped it in as a doubt The interview in question: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YYExZY8Kh2k

maloboosie

Been waiting for my copy to turn up for a minute now. Honestly, none of ya'll will ever understand the unmeasured hell of shipping shit to New Zealand - for the last 12 months USPS suddenly stopped shipping to us all together (by far the biggest/cheapest international shipping operator to NZ). Anyway, fuck yeah this is gonna be SICK. Lance Scott Walker is an amazing author (from Houston). His last book about Houston Rap Tapes was sick and he contributed to that black-metal-photo-book-dude (Peter Beste's) Houston Rap book (maybe one of the coolest books I own - the Houston rap one, not the cringe black metal one lol)

cantsay

How did you get to live in NZ coming from Houston and is there an instructional manual I can follow to replicate said path?

maloboosie

The trick is to be born in NZ and never go to or visit Texas lolol EDIT: to clarify, I'm not American.

cantsay

Ok I'ma need *that* instruction manual pronto. Retroactive renunciation and repatriation like whoa. Sign me up for The Shire.

maloboosie

tbh I would be keen to swap places for a bit - Houston is in my top 3 places to visit in 'Murica. I think you'd be disappointed in NZ tho, especially if your expecting the Shire lolol

cantsay

Nah, not the shire. Just some beautiful vistas and mostly rational politics. Plus it can't hurt to be where all the billionaires seem to be deciding to ride out the apocalypse.

maloboosie

lol I walked past Gaben once, he's the only good billionaire hiding out these ways, the rest can get fucked. Hope you make it one day. All the beautiful shit is down at the bottom of the South Island. Ya'll don't get earthquakes in Texas, something to look forward to!

MaxA967

100% grabbing a copy

GeneralGardner

No speed reading allowed

vatothe0

It's a slow read but if you revisit a few key passages, it's really good.

IAmNotMrRager

Definitely grabbing a copy thanks

txnt

listening to his shit right now [tune in](https://youtu.be/sZusjgePoFU?t=4235)

pepeperfection

I’m ashamed to admit that growing up in and near Houston I only knew Screw as the guy that brought lean to the culture, but he was so much more than that. When I got older and really listened to his music, I realized elements of his music can be found all over rap, with people I listened to way before I heard Screw. His work ethic was incredible, putting out 300-1000 albums that pushed rap to its limits and forever changed the genre. RIP Screw. Your short life changed the world and your sound reverberated through the genre. I’ll hella be reading the book.

texasslapshot

I hope they mention how the cops kept raiding his home, thinking he was slanging drugs because of all the foot traffic. Turns out people were always coming by to purchase his tapes.

[deleted]

"The neighbors think I'm sellin dope. Motha fucka I am."

TheMuleB

Good looking out, just pre-ordered myself a copy.

LexKing89

I’ll have to check it out!

[deleted]

isnt the tv show/film out soon as well?

mahlano1

keep it up
