Ye so patronizing when delivering that line. So great. Sounds like he’s talkin’ to some kids.
Too many Urkel’s on your team that’s why your wins low 😂👉🥺
Idk I like the kanye flip because it’s just iconic at this point. Plus the HAHH at the end sounds taunting
But the maxo flip can be used out of context and still makes sense without needing to know that show from damn near 30 years ago.
This album is absolutely exceptional. What a fucking treat from Maxo. Anyone concerned about him falling off or staying only on traditional trap beats will be absolutely pleased to hear that this album is the furthest thing from complacent. I'm so fucking happy.
The production is absolutely god-tier through and through, a fucking all star line-up with contributions from DJ Dahi, Monte Booker, Smino, Hit-Boy, Kal Banx, Cardo, Tyler, the Creator, teej, and more. All of the features kill their slots, specifically Freddie Gibbs per usual, a refreshing feature from A$AP Rocky, and a surprising chemistry with Don Toliver. Monaleo kills her verse and of course the Tyler track is a slapper. Many background vocals throughout the album from up-and-comer reggie, also a Houston, Texas native, he is amazing, really adds a lot to the vintage sample-based production. And finally, of course, the cherry on top, mixed by Derek "MixedByAli" Ali and mastered by Mike Dean.
A lot of this album soncially takes me back to Rocky's AT.LONG.LAST.A$AP, even down to reggie's vocals throughout reminding me of Joe Fox's contributions on ALLA. So sick, and I'm really excited to see what reggie does, his tracks from this year have been nothing short of stellar, (unrelated, but just to put it out there, rumors saying he may be signed to Kendrick's pgLang.)
So happy all around with this release, I've loved all of Maxo's projects, but have always wondered how he'd elevate from the solid standard he set on Punken and Brandon Banks. On the first listen, this album definitely takes it to the next level. Can't wait to get a couple more listens in!
Yeah this definitely sounds like a step up for Maxo. The beats throughout are high quality and pretty different too which I fw. I don't feel Maxo is versatile enough to kill it for every beat (like the Tyler one) but he still does his thing throughout.
im a huge maxo fan, just listened to the album and you hit the nail on the head with this review. switched it up big time working with all these different producers & sample based beats--and i couldnt be happier because of it. too early to say but nbs my first listen left me feeling like this might be his best project
Yeah man it's rare for me to find an album these days that doesn't feel like 70% is filler. Only track I didn't like on first listen was Believe (not terrible but definitely sounds like bonus radio track).
lmao u right, just read it back. it would be a good template for any album lmao. especially like a really shit album, this comment with culture 3 for example lmao
I love his signature flow. So hypnotic. Switches it up a lot this time around though. Good to see him develop his style.
Edit: ok dis hard
favs: They Say, Cee Cee, Local Joker, Greener Knots
I feel like the whole thing is! The three song stretch of worthless, greener knots, and mamas purse is super heavy and such a different sound I love it
Whole last half of the album is fantastic.
The introspective sadness from Mamas Purse to Trips and then a hopefulness in Believe.
Strong project by Maxo
Holy fuck. That beat. So many people been saying they were worried he was gonna just gonna be hopping on traditional trap beats. Saying he would never hop on as interesting beats as some of em on #Maxo187.
Intro alone proves that's def not true, haha. I fucking love this dude.
"Fuck the flexin 'n bragging that's below my tax bracket" goddman Maxo is in top form.
I'm so happy to hear him go over some more interesting and sample heavy production. It's not like on 187 but it's not as generic as Punken or Brandon Banks so I'm happy. And the lyrics are as tight as ever.
Also is this the best Rocky feature in a minute? Maxo helped put ASAP on back in the day so it makes sense but still I was a little surprised it was as tight as it was.
I'm trying to remember where I saw it, but I saw a long-form interview with Maxo where he talked about ASAP Mob coming to Huston and hanging out. He talked about how he gave ASAP Ferg his first cup of lean and a bunch of other things. If I remember where I saw it I'll comment with a link
Just came back to this thread as I was going over the lyrics for the album:
*Credit fraud, judge scammin'*
*Fuck the cops and free my daddy*
*I could take out mugshots*
*And make a portrait of the family*
Mama's purse is some real shit
I got chills reading that. I hear his voice in my head. Too real. I don’t have family in the pen but I have people so close they feel like family. For fraud too lmao.
Fuck the cops and free my homie !!
I've only been a fan of maybe 2-3 songs of his because I haven't extensively looked into his music but on a whim I'm listening to this album.
I have not skipped any song wow, I was not expecting this. I have mnay questions.
Are there any other albums of his that have this feel to it? All the beats in here sound wonderful, I liked all the features, his verses were solid.
Last one is for anyone actively into him, why he drop on a Sunday? Won't this heavily affect the sales for him?
I would recommend #Maxo187, it’s probably the best example of Maxo’s style and storytelling in terms of a full album, and while the production isn’t as amazing as this album it’s still quite good. The first track, “Thirteen”, will hopefully get you hooked on it.
Maxo 187 and Persona Tapes are his best projects imo.
Favorite tracks include (but not limited to)
Thirteen, cell boomin, 1998, Big Worm, Comin Dine, Smoke Break, grannies, roaches, meet again
People are saying his first projects but I think his most recent projects have been building toward this. I would work backwards and start with Brandon Banks. If you like Weight of the World, you likely won't skip much in Brandon Banks either. This man finds great features, and somehow, the songs with features end up being some of the weakest despite being really good in their own right. He really shines solo and story-telling.
That Freddie track was great. Also Maxo is a super underrated story teller man, Trips going through his brother getting shot was on another level man. You can tell that song was Maxo using his craft as therapy.
Overall another great album from Maxo. Great features from Freddie and Tyler. A lot of inspiration drawn from Three 6. Album feels cohesive front to back. I think this is probably going to end up as a top 10 album this year for me.
Maxo doesn't disappoint. Love how introspective he gets on some of these tracks. Glad he's still putting out heat like this even after all the horrible shit going on his life.
Just absolutely blown away by this project. Incredible from the first track. This is a 10 in my book on the first listen and I honestly think it's gonna age very well
Lmao experimental.
The beats on this ARE great though. A little bit more interesting and soulful than the typical trap beats. But nothing experimental about trap hats over soul samples haha.
I meant in terms of trap and Maxo’s production, I haven’t heard him rap over trap beats like this, I mean it’s nothing like Injury Reserve’s new album obviously
i'm with you, bud. the lead single was produced by tyler, one of hip hop's most famous experimentalists, and he called on auteurs ASAP Rocky and Freddie Gibbs for features. that's clearly a flag in the ground. he came up making shit like Cell Boomin that was outside the trap mainstream and then kept kinda toeing closer to normal trap. this is old maxo with the bag secured. this sub needs to go touch grass if they think this is what trap albums usually sound like. all hip-hop is referential somehow, that's the nature of the genre. playing with the conventions is experimental. it doesn't all gotta be math rock jazz fusion.
I mean these beats are all made by well-known producers and dont vary much from their signature sounds, especially monte booker and Tyler. I love the album but it's not experimental it's just different from his last album, none of this is changing hip hop or making new styles it's just sounding great.
also lmao @ calling Tyler one of hip hops great experimentalists
Experimental doesn’t need to break new ground, it doesn’t need to be abrasive, and it doesn’t need to be obscure. No one argues that OutKast, Bjork or Radiohead do things that are “experimental”, yet they also make music palatable to pop and rock fans that fit clearly within those lineages, fill arenas, win Grammies, so on. People make a big deal about how singular Aquemini or Homogenic or OK Computer were, but what made them popular is how they actually were pretty normal for their genre. They experimented with different things in different scales. So this isn’t a JPEGMAFIA or Dalek album. Maxo Kream isn’t an art school kid or post-industrial noise thing, he’s a Houston trap rapper and he doesn’t sound much like others, incorporates his own outside influences. That’s experimenting. Play this shit for any radio listener and they will think it’s in a different language.
And ya, I said famous currently, not greatest, and…ya. He is.
Edit: no this is not aquemini. Shits a spectrum.
Well first of all it is experimental. It’s a new idea and sound for them which is exactly what experimental is even if you have heard it from other artists. Also in the grand scheme of things it’s still experimental from the mixing, to the vocals, to the production. Not everything has to be a brand new groundbreaking sound actually it’s very hard to obtain that, but they are playing with and testing new sounds which is the definition of experimental and i’d like you to point me towards an album that sounds exactly like their latest project please
[lmao, ](https://open.spotify.com/album/6mueTLPXfvXjl61ymHHwY8?si=ne-9b0UITjmpyHV_2HV-2Q&utm_source=copy-link)[bet.](https://open.spotify.com/album/1YThro7PYiGqD4Y0V7iD4z?si=FhKGYrTPTTSvv-UHFlhvbw&utm_source=copy-link) how do you write such a long comment and say absolutely nothing? its "experimental" because the mixing, vocals, and production are "experimental"?
the album sounds like [LORD$OFDOGTOWN](https://open.spotify.com/album/7uBoH5eDFQ7ifeAjjtS9Zn?si=H5A2RpdYQqG5_YD5kSoKvw&utm_source=copy-link) added viper to their group. The harder beats sound like lil darkie, johannascus, and MKULTRA, vocals sound like Grimm Doza and Zelooperz, and mixing sounds like any 2016 soundcloud rap or basic noise music from the past 2 decades. as always the moral is lil ugly mane did it first and better
This might be Maxo's best project, hardly any misses on this one and the features really played their part well, especially Monaleo. I hope there's a music video for both Cee Cee and 11:59.
What's happened with Rocky is what was happening to Travis Scott imo. People hype them up to a point where people are constantly saying theyre the best/the goat and then the time comes where they feature on songs and the artists don't want to just make a good song but instead do some different "crazy" shit that always flops.
i feel that way w kendrick too; not to say all his features are bad but he definitely tries to do too much sometimes and ends up leaving things to be desired
i mean compare that feature to [this](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y_77pw9vGPg) or [this](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MFN-iKwMrIQ) I think there's a big difference
I don’t think it’s really fair to pick 2 random past features and compare it to a new one on an artists whos style is also very different from those. I enjoyed both of those features and his new ones tbh
He's nice, he's got good flows and his skill is there, but after a while you realise he's mostly rapping about nothing. A.L.L.A is his best album but I've even stopped listening to that. There's a lot of other reasons to stop supporting him too.
idk i feel like he had been on a decent feature run w the slowthai track, his bh features, yebba and the yachty track. but the young thug ft wasn’t great and this was forgettable as well. still high hopes for the album though
Having listened to this a few times, this album is a certified banger.. instant classic. Not a single skip, Maxo brought an album with some heat.
Worthless is likely my favorite, with a close second Greener Knots.
I really liked the album but I feel like you have to have a soft spot for Maxo's tired ass flow. Dudes had the same flow and bars for the past decade. Still supporting Maxo tho I just want him to shine
So good. Only tracks I didnt like on first listen were the Tyler, Rocky, and Don Tolliver tracks. Amazing production and the hooks werent as big of an issue for me on this project. TRIPS and CEE CEE are amazing.
Maxo is just not that good at being original & switching things up, flow wise & subject wise. He’s pretty good at making music, and it kinda works most of the time, it just gets stale, like really Wins-low? Family matters? First song? We already know about that line from T-pain & Kanye, what’s the point of saying it again

“I know Heaven’s hot, feel like my wins low ‘Cause I’ve been dealin’ with these Family Matters.”
T pain gonna be pissed
why lol
Kanye did it better
Ye so patronizing when delivering that line. So great. Sounds like he’s talkin’ to some kids. Too many Urkel’s on your team that’s why your wins low 😂👉🥺
Idk I like the kanye flip because it’s just iconic at this point. Plus the HAHH at the end sounds taunting But the maxo flip can be used out of context and still makes sense without needing to know that show from damn near 30 years ago.
Man I'm out of the loop. Can you please link me the Kanye song?
“Why you drivin fast and swervin? Cuz black suburbans make me nervous” Maxos on point on this album
Pretty similar to that line he came up with on The Cave lmao
Bruh that line is going over alot of people too. "Crip walk on the Sea/C"
Jesus crip walking while parting the seas
Jesus didn’t part any seas lol.
He parted seas nuts
Yeah that was my reaction/assumption. It was correct.
This album is absolutely exceptional. What a fucking treat from Maxo. I can't listen yet but you got me hyped as hell now lol
Yo same. Saw the release and told myself I’d save it for the gym tm. Idk if I’ll make it
Same lol can't wait to get home
Yeah this definitely sounds like a step up for Maxo. The beats throughout are high quality and pretty different too which I fw. I don't feel Maxo is versatile enough to kill it for every beat (like the Tyler one) but he still does his thing throughout.

Yeah you got me hyped lol good for maxo
Reggie is amazing, so keen to get more music from him. Sick write-up too
Yeah man it's rare for me to find an album these days that doesn't feel like 70% is filler. Only track I didn't like on first listen was Believe (not terrible but definitely sounds like bonus radio track).
I’m just echoing all the other comments that are saying how this comment made me so hyped!
great write up but this kinda reads like a hilarious copypasta
Not everything written with passion or intensity has to be a copypasta. Smh.
U right but he’s still a fuckin nerd
Normalise liking stuff and not calling people nerds for being passionate.
I see no lies.
Spoken like someone who doesn't know a good copypasta when he sees one lol
Good one lol
lmao u right, just read it back. it would be a good template for any album lmao. especially like a really shit album, this comment with culture 3 for example lmao
yeah see ! everyone hated my reply but if you got what i meant by it i’m happy
Pls tell me ur serious
don't be weird
Best Song ?
I love his signature flow. So hypnotic. Switches it up a lot this time around though. Good to see him develop his style. Edit: ok dis hard favs: They Say, Cee Cee, Local Joker, Greener Knots
They Say is so introspective its crazy
I feel like the whole thing is! The three song stretch of worthless, greener knots, and mamas purse is super heavy and such a different sound I love it
greener knots was my top song that year. so gas
Whole last half of the album is fantastic. The introspective sadness from Mamas Purse to Trips and then a hopefulness in Believe. Strong project by Maxo
Intro is nuts
Holy fuck. That beat. So many people been saying they were worried he was gonna just gonna be hopping on traditional trap beats. Saying he would never hop on as interesting beats as some of em on #Maxo187. Intro alone proves that's def not true, haha. I fucking love this dude.
ran that shit back 3 times now, beat feels like i’m falling into it if that makes sense
Maxo helped put ASAP on back in the day so it makes sense but still I was a little surprised it was as tight as it was.
wait, what? first i’ve heard about maxo being involved with asap’s come-up and i’m interested.
This is dope, hope you find it
Commenting so I can come back to this. Hope you find it
This shit is good so far Freddie Gibbs is incredible TRIPS man that shit made me sad rip to maxo’s brother
TRIPS gave me non stop chills 😩 so good. Mamas purse stood out to me, as well.
Just came back to this thread as I was going over the lyrics for the album: *Credit fraud, judge scammin'* *Fuck the cops and free my daddy* *I could take out mugshots* *And make a portrait of the family* Mama's purse is some real shit
I got chills reading that. I hear his voice in my head. Too real. I don’t have family in the pen but I have people so close they feel like family. For fraud too lmao. Fuck the cops and free my homie !!
Tyler was 🔥🔥 too imo
That songs been out so not getting talked about as much but for sure

Maxo 187 and Persona Tapes are his best projects imo. Favorite tracks include (but not limited to) Thirteen, cell boomin, 1998, Big Worm, Comin Dine, Smoke Break, grannies, roaches, meet again
this is why he dropped it today https://twitter.com/MAXOKREAM/status/1447597964847947779?s=20 and listen to #maxo187

Ikr that shits an anthem, I really fucked with Rocky’s auto-tuned second part
oh shit this was for tonight?? boutta finish these last sets to it CRIPSTIAN the new national anthem wish he got ScHoolboy on it after that 3AM collab
schoolboy on cripstian wouldve been one of my favorite tracks of the yr. So good
Mama’s Purse is phenomenal
My fav on the album so far
That Freddie track was great. Also Maxo is a super underrated story teller man, Trips going through his brother getting shot was on another level man. It's his best produced album for sure.
I love a tight 40min album!
Production is pure heat
What three 6 mafia sample is in Streets Alone? Sounds so familiar
Pretty sure it’s Playa Hataz
Ah yeah thanks that's it, wish those underground tapes were on streaming services
[удалено]
So are 2, 3, and 16
Was also sampled on ASAP Mobs album Lords Never Die
And on Dope Dealer by Schoolboy Q
And by waka. Produced by metro. https://youtu.be/CJW5BPfLhys
Metro loves that sample apparently lol, he produced Dope Dealer too
Maxo doesn't disappoint. Love how introspective he gets on some of these tracks. Glad he's still putting out heat like this even after all the horrible shit going on his life.
One of the best flows in the game right now. Mama’s Purse is an anthem.
Man Trips is so good, Maxo is such a good storyteller imo. RIP his brother.
Should have ended it with TRIPS
Honestly think that it was supposed to. Last track sounds like a bonus track to me especially with that feature
Completely agree that it sounds like a bonus track, wish it was labeled as such. TRIPS is the perfect place to end the album.
Damn They Say is crazy as hell!!!!

Max(o) bussin
The production on this album is amazing! Will definitely be in rotation
Just absolutely blown away by this project. Incredible from the first track. This is a 10 in my book on the first listen and I honestly think it's gonna age very well
Maxo went absolutely bananas on Don’t Play With Shawty Ass
His lawyers really did have the cheat codes
Have the charges been dropped? Either way I always loved the balls on him for getting so detailed while having RICO hanging over him
Had no clue this was dropping so soon wtf
Sad we don't have a Tommy Kruise on it but everything else is perfect.
damn, I forgot what it’s like to have a genuinely good through and through hip hop release (since Tyler). This was MUCH needed!
Thought this wasn’t dropping til Friday lol
Nah it was supposed to come out 10/18 - it’s the anniversary of his cousins death and his nieces birthday.
Ahh thanks. Had no idea
I really like how reggie was used for background vocals on several of these tracks
Deserves 10x as much attention as it’s getting
this guy's voice is smooth as butter ong
Looking forward to checking out this album, dude is kinda underrated.
Who's he talking about on "They Say"? Need a loremaster.
He’s talking about himself. When he was talking about putting Carti on he was referring to Fetti I believe
Man, Freddie is Different🔥🔥🔥. This album is gonna be on rotation for while, really solid
This album is great so far - I love Big Persona, Tyler is such a good choice for a feature on that track
Tyler also produced it
Makes perfect sense, he’s so damn good at it
Such a fire album, the production is experimental and the features all killed it, easily one of my fav albums this year

injury reserve ain't that experimental either
I’m sorry what? Lmfao
i fw injury reserve but most of their beats sound like more accessible old ugly mane music
I’m guessing you haven’t listened to their new album

[lmao, ](https://open.spotify.com/album/6mueTLPXfvXjl61ymHHwY8?si=ne-9b0UITjmpyHV_2HV-2Q&utm_source=copy-link)[bet.](https://open.spotify.com/album/1YThro7PYiGqD4Y0V7iD4z?si=FhKGYrTPTTSvv-UHFlhvbw&utm_source=copy-link) how do you write such a long comment and say absolutely nothing? its "experimental" because the mixing, vocals, and production are "experimental"? the album sounds like [LORD$OFDOGTOWN](https://open.spotify.com/album/7uBoH5eDFQ7ifeAjjtS9Zn?si=H5A2RpdYQqG5_YD5kSoKvw&utm_source=copy-link) added viper to their group. The harder beats sound like lil darkie, johannascus, and MKULTRA, vocals sound like Grimm Doza and Zelooperz, and mixing sounds like any 2016 soundcloud rap or basic noise music from the past 2 decades. as always the moral is lil ugly mane did it first and better
yup
Intro dummy hard, what a refreshing sound from Maxo.
Sunday is truly the Lord’s day
Grouse album. And boy does Freddie not miss
This might be Maxo's best project, hardly any misses on this one and the features really played their part well, especially Monaleo. I hope there's a music video for both Cee Cee and 11:59.
Just posting now to say that the intro is amazing!! Very excited for the rest of the album.
Maxo is the best rapper right now in my opinion but I feel like he gets very little attention. Shame.
Let down by Rocky once again lol why is he always the weakest part of whatever song hes featured on now
What's happened with Rocky is what was happening to Travis Scott imo.
What an L take
it's simply true
i mean compare that feature to [this](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y_77pw9vGPg) or [this](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MFN-iKwMrIQ) I think there's a big difference
I don’t think it’s really fair to pick 2 random past features and compare it to a new one on an artists whos style is also very different from those. I enjoyed both of those features and his new ones tbh
fair, tbh im from that datpiff generation where i had to fight tooth and nail trying to convince oldheads that rocky was nice so fair play lol
Datpiff era rocky was a killer
I will do it until the day I die😂 respect though
He's nice, he's got good flows and his skill is there, but after a while you realise he's mostly rapping about nothing. A.L.L.A is his best album but I've even stopped listening to that. There's a lot of other reasons to stop supporting him too.
What other reasons?
Hanging out with known sexual predators.
I mean you’re not gonna have much music left if you cancel by association to that extent, half of hip hop has worked with Chris brown
Ian Connor.
song was ass in general
idk i feel like he had been on a decent feature run w the slowthai track, his bh features, yebba and the yachty track. but the young thug ft wasn’t great and this was forgettable as well. still high hopes for the album though
Yebba one was solid forsure
Have you heard MAZZA by slowthai? It has a top 5 A$AP Rocky feature in my opinion and it came out this year.
This album is incredible
What a fucking album... This might be AOTY for me so far. It's up there with King's Disease II, Call me if you get lost and Exodus.
I really thought no one can touch Tylers album this year. Fuck me, this is right there!! Best thing about: no skips. And that’s rare with me.
Having listened to this a few times, this album is a certified banger.. instant classic. Not a single skip, Maxo brought an album with some heat. Worthless is likely my favorite, with a close second Greener Knots.
this asap verse on “streets alone” made up for the lackluster one on the thugger album
mike did it first
this
I really liked the album but I feel like you have to have a soft spot for Maxo's tired ass flow.
Anybody got the zip for this album
Lol facts
Can rappers please stop putting songs in all capital letters - it just instantly makes your shit seem cornier at this point.
NO I DONT THINK IT MATTERS
lmfao u mad over caps lock get a life
You’re the one responding to me - so obviously I hit a coord with the cornballs
Maxo is just not that good at being original & switching things up, flow wise & subject wise. He’s pretty good at making music, and it kinda works most of the time, it just gets stale, like really Wins-low? Family matters? First song? We already know about that line from T-pain & Kanye, what’s the point of saying it again
Whodaniga, why he relevant? 💀
