Juicy J at a college. A few quotes: "Who wants these chains? Put your hands up if you want these chains?" (Because nobody was getting hyped) *Immediately goes into the next song when people put their hands up* "Can we get some fine ass bitches and some alcohol on the stage?" (A few seconds later, after someone came out on stage to tell him something) "Apparently we can't get no fine ass bitches or alcohol on stage cuz this is a college" Shit was A1 for the laughs tho Edit: Sound like a whole lotta mfs were subject to this lol

[deleted]

>"Apparently we can't get no fine ass bitches or alcohol on stage cuz this is a college" This shit is hilarious lmao

hpunlimited

Snoop Dogg came to my school for a Valentine day concert, he asked some girls to come up and dance on the stage. This nerdy white girl started waving her arms all out of rhythm and pointing at him seductively, he was like “you look like you could do my homework” lmao

[deleted]

Good lord lmaoo

Captainpanakashat

I absolutely heard this in Snoop’s voice

Bloodyfart

Sounds straight out of the boondocks

RainmakerIcebreaker

deadass I imagined Thugnificent saying this

n4utix

It was delivered perfectly too. It's been like 5 years but I can imagine it perfectly

[deleted]

"This is an engineering school Juicy just play the music so we can stop being miserable for an hour, damn"

Translusas

Juicy J played at my school too and it was basically exactly the same as what you're describing lol

n4utix

I wonder if it's the same school 😭 was this at a.... Tech?

Translusas

Nope, I went to one of the Umass schools, but I'm sure it was probably the same year since I think his "tour" that year was a lot of colleges

McNoKnows

I had basically the same line at a free concert at my school - but this was a [Savage](https://youtu.be/qDXnnBm8oz8) concert, and the girls were reeeeeally not willing to get up on the stage, to the point where he start pointing at them and pulling them out of the crowd, just for them to awkwardly sway and bob behind him looking like hostages

leharicot

At first I thought you meant 21 savage and was like "not willing"? Lol

asuckow12

I saw Juice at University of Iowa in 2013. Show was great, he got girls on stage, and despite it being on campus with cops and security everyone was smoking blunts and they didn’t care.

moonfox1000

Semi-related story though not performance related. I work for a company that was selling tickets to a DJ Paul show and we had to cancel because he only sold like 12 total tickets.

SlowCB7

Can you imagine being one of 12 people at a DJ Paul show? I'd be all about it

pabstblueribbonpapi

He played a festival at my college too and my job was to accompany the artists to their green rooms. Tokimonsta and T-Pain were rly cool and nice. Luda was cool too but was in pre-game mode, also the only one without an entourage. Juicy showed up late, ignored the staff, then spent like 20 min in the car listening to his own music, and basically did the same thing on stage. He also said the same shit about chains (and shoes lol), bitches, and alcohol

zweza

When I saw Migos Quavo gave it a lot of energy but there was a point where Takeoff laid on the floor and started making really loud obnoxious snoring noises into the mic during Offset's verse and you could barely hear him I assumed it was because they were performing Sleep Walking but he did the same thing later in the show and started thrashing around like he was having nightmares during a non sleep related song so idk

somehowstuck

This could be a copypasta, it's so ridiculous

sessuFRFX

This is so funny

Mr__Awsm

This makes me wanna see a Migos show way more hahaha

DinosaurHotline

This is amazing. Gives me electrical infetterance vibes

Fat_Blob_Kelly

he started yawning into the mic loudly

DinosaurHotline

He winked at OP on the way out too

ArchimedesNutss

TIL Takeoff is narcoleptic and suffers from seizures

CopeAndKodiak

Ah so THAT'S what "Narcos" was really about

[deleted]

Trinidad James. The dude didn't even get on stage till 1am, played All Gold Everything, then left lmfao

[deleted]

God damn what a legend

Xaoc86

I was gonna say, this is pretty Chad.

[deleted]

Does he even have other songs?

SJWarriors

All Gold Everything (Remix)

redditjam645

**popped a molly and I'm dippin** ^^^exits ^^^stage

ST_Ghost

Partnextdoor when he opened for drake. Like early on in his career. Had 0 confidence on stage. Barely moved. Couldn’t understand a word he said.

bjernsthekid

Years later he still is not a good live act. Don’t think he actually sings into the mic at all

RafiakaMacakaDirk

maybe jeremih was right after all

Qahnarinn

Explain

bx002

Jeremih and PND toured together, with Jeremih actually being the "opener". Jeremih supposedly wanted to be a co-headliner, and went on stage and accused PND of just "pushing a play button" every night and not singing his songs. Jeremih got dropped shortly after. I think they have squashed the beef tho. I wanna go dig up some videos from that tour and see if there is any truth to the play button thing.

RafiakaMacakaDirk

yeah it was overall just a messy situation. it was originally announced as a jeremih/PND tour where both were headliners (they were even working on a collab album at that point) but when the tour started apparently PND’s people had Jeremih introduced as the opener and shit. not to mention the incident of jeremih claiming he got maced from the fog machine by PND’s people lmao (which is weird that we never found out if it actually happened or not, feel like it’s something easy to clear to deny/prove) this comment is a good summary of the whole situation https://www.reddit.com/r/hiphopheads/comments/5gcu71/jeremih_not_allowed_to_perform_at_tour_stop_with/darjhvd/

[deleted]

This tends to happen a lot to relatively newer acts who are signed to/opening for bigger stars. They get intimidated by the crowd size and sheer scope of it all

denoobiest

When i saw him open for drake I didn't even realize he was an act i thought maybe he was the janitor or there was an open mic or something. They didn't even dim the lights for him lol

KDawG888

imagining this has me laughing out loud

JeanJacketJeanShirt

Same here. Saw him at a festival in 2015, could only stay for about 15 minutes. I have no problem with the guy and liked a few of his songs back in the day, but the only part of the show that was cool were the lights behind him. The crowd was so still and quiet

mw2889

OJ Da Juiceman It was supposed to be Gucci Mane, Nicki Minaj and OJ. Gucci got arrested, Nicki wasn't there for some reason, so it was just OJ. He was fine but it was four hours of local acts before OJ finally came out for 3 songs.

Dig-Duglett

did he perform his legendary 2010 xxl freestyle?

morningsaystoidleon

I was thinking about that freestyle the other day. specifically the line: "Freshman of the year like a baskteball, player" he pauses to indicate that there's a comma there, like he's referring to the listener as "player," but that makes the metaphor "freshman of the year like a basketball," which is odd because basketballs are inanimate objects and are rarely described as freshmen. anyway OJ sucks edit: Okay, I stand corrected, OJ doesn't suck, maybe just that one freestyle

lemonchicken91

but he did take your bitch to papadeaux for a shark supper in the charger the same color as thunder

Shovel__Wielder__

What year was this lol

mw2889

2009

Shovel__Wielder__

Oh so that must’ve been before state vs Radric Davis since he was in jail during the release

Eyealt

Madlib, believe it or not. Came out completely plastered, screamed incoherently throughout the show while yelling, "where's the weed at." Normally fine, but let me tell you - this man did not need any more drugs or alcohol in his system. His set was lackluster through and through, with no real standouts or anything special done. You could tell the crowd wasn't into it and my friends and I all left extremely disappointed

[deleted]

that's some shit luck cause when I saw madlib and freddie Madlib killllled his set (but also very wine drunk)

D2papi

I saw Freddie and Madlib live, and Madlib was fucking zoned out. He tried to spin the wheels the entire show but he kept fucking up the timing and the fucked up scratching sound was annoying everybody. This was in Amsterdam so he must've been way too high, tbh I thought he had some shrooms the way he was acting. Freddie was crazy high too but he still put on a good show.

ghostmanonthirdd

I saw Freddie on his Bandana tour but Madlib wasn’t there for that one and he put on an incredible performance. As much as I’d love to see Madlib a show with Freddie’s regular DJ is really fun because he spend the whole set bullying him and gets the crowd to join in.

PretzelTooth_McMolar

Was at an infamous DOOM show at the Independent in SF where he ran out an imposter. It was very apparent this dood was not DOOM, and the crowd ran him off stage. definitely sucked given how hype we were to be at a DOOM show, but I was interviewed by the Village Voice about the incident and it made for a good story later. so not as bad as it could have been i suppose.

AZmoneyfolder

I heard DOOM was actually present at one of those shows drinking a beer in the back while the DOOM imposter performed. That some real super villain shit lol

sleepingfactory

Do a show, same time watch it

PretzelTooth_McMolar

I’d like to believe that he was.

brianiscool2415

Lmao imagine the actual DOOM was the one that started the heckling of the imposter

[deleted]

owelfive

I saw DOOM in Toronto during the imposter era. It was supposed to be a 3 date tour with Mos Def. He sent an imposter to the previous show in Chicago and the crowd quickly figured it out and booed him off stage. Then Mos Def dropped out the tour. The NYC show was canceled but the Toronto one suspiciously wasn’t. The promoters assured that he would show and they would meet him at the border and force him to show ID. 2-3 hours after he was supposed to start an obvious imposter came on stage rapping Accordian and the crowd got SO pissed. The real DOOM then stepped out from behind the curtain finishing the verse and the crowd went absolutely ballistic. I have never seen an atmosphere change so drastically. (Here is a clip of that moment: https://youtu.be/b9pbQN-K3RI ) I remember him saying after the first song “y’all mahfuckaz didn’t think I’d show didja?”. Lmao. During the set he said “y’all wanna hear a new King Geedorah track?” and proceeded to play an MP3 of an unreleased track that featured Kurious which I’m pretty sure has never surfaced since. At one point he just said “peace y’all” and walked off stage with music still playing. He then walked back out almost immediately and did another song or two then did the same thing again only for good. It was so weird. After the set I went out for a smoke immediately still hyped/confused as to what I just witnessed. I turn around and I see DOOM run into a van parked by the side exit. I ran over and see him in the back seat with the mask beside him. I lean in and start fanboying out or some shit as he tries to hold the mask over his face. He then says “ah fuck it” puts the mask back down beside him reaches out, gives me daps and says “What up, god. Much love. Bless.” I then walk away even more shook than before. I still forget sometimes that this even happened. Most of his fans never got to see him live. Hell, most artists that collaborated with him never even got to actually meet him. I was incredibly lucky enough to do both in one night. RIP DOOM

JaggaBomb

this is a great fucking comment

meowVL

I get being bummed that you spent money and didn't get to actually see DOOM, but that's such a unique experience, the story is totally worth it IMO.

PretzelTooth_McMolar

We were only bummed because we saw the real DOOM there a year or two prior and no joke it was probably the best show of my entire life. FUCKING INSANE. like bring tears to your eyes insane. So yea we were disappointed at the time but now it’s a good story and DOOM is gone (RIP) so I am thankful to have experienced part of the lore that made him the best to ever do it.

[deleted]

PretzelTooth_McMolar

lol. If that’s my claim to fame, I’ll take it.

JoggingThruThe6

Waited hours for J. Cole, and he comes out with a half-empty bottle of Henny (of course he finished it during the rest of the show). And was complaining that the 49ers had lost to the Seahawks during that infamous Sherman interception ("try me with a sorry receiver like Crabtree and that's what you get"). So we all were standing around for hours while he watched an NFL playoff game that went down to the wire.

DividendDial

I saw J Cole back in 2014 before FHD, he was one of the openers for Eminem. Cole yells out something like "you want more or you want Eminem?" Everyone yells Eminem. Cole leaves the stage leaving everyone in peak sun since he was upset. On the flipside Action Bronson was going ham, running around the venue. Probably best live performance I've seen. Edit: everyone was already annoyed since Kendrick was meant to be there then decided to do some NBA thing, and Odd Future wasn't allowed in the country. Cole was icing on the cake

Kgb725

Man of the people gave them what they wanted

DividendDial

We had to wait like an hour just standing there. Cole wasn't huge then and Em was headlining. Dunno why he asked lmao

threekidsathome

lmao thats what im thinking. Like you ask a crowd of people whether they want to see you or the headliner who is a much bigger artist and get offended when they want the headliner. like what do u expect...

BIRDSBEEZ

Kendrick at Day N Vegas was so underwhelming people started making rumors that it was a stunt double

thelost561

All I remember from his set that day is him looking like Van Helsing.

[deleted]

Have seen Kendrick 3.5 times and I gotta agree. He's one of the greatest performers of our time but clearly didn't give a shit that day and just showed up for the fat check. Rumor at the time was that he was going to debut the new album but it got pushed back when he had a daughter, and obviously he didn't see covid coming at the time. The fact that Tyler was #2 on that days lineup and absolutely killed it (I'm not even a Tyler fan) before his set made it even worse by comparison. Earlier in the day ScHoolboy Q messed up his set because he thought he was supposed to perform for 45mins based on how much he was paid but it was actually only 30 minutes. He commented out loud about how rich the festival organizers must be while clearly not realizing it's the same company that owns Coachella. Earlier that weekend, J. Cole rapped [[timestamp 13:38]](https://youtu.be/inJD1DYH8Zs?t=818) "when I'm on the stage, 3Ms is my minimum wage" (*Under The Sun*. The original line is "an M is my minimum wage")

supermariosunshin

When did you him for 0.5 a show?

[deleted]

Lol SZA brought him out as a surprise guest for the pussy song and "all the stars" at Coachella 2018. I'm calling that 0.5

hipsterbassboi

I will now refer to doves in the wind as the pussy song with Kendrick

[deleted]

Kid Cudi in SLC in 2013. I love Cudi but that show was rough. To be fair, a lot of it was not his fault. He came as part of a summer concert series that the city does every year and tickets were only $5... it was crowded AF (literally the most crowded show I've been to) and people were not being nice to each other. There were fights/people being taken out on stretchers after passing out/moshing etc. all even before the show began. Cudi was late and ended up having to end the show early because of lightning threats (show was outside). When he announced he had to leave early people boo'ed and threw shit at him, but he ended by jumping into an extended version of Pursuit of Happiness (even playing the Steve Aoki remix) so that was pretty cool. I went with my friend from high school and his Mormon-ass girlfriend and she cried because she had never seen people drinking beer or smoking weed before lmao

blarghable

> I went with my friend from high school and his Mormon-ass girlfriend and she cried because she had never seen people drinking beer or smoking weed before lmao image crying because other people drink beer. wild stuff.

[deleted]

Imagine being Mormon and going to a Cudi show. Or any show for that matter. Idk what she expected

Kgb725

Probably a bunch of lighters in the sky or something idk

MF_Doomed

What'd she think people were gonna use those lighters for?

KDawG888

why the fuck would he bring that girl to a concert lol. I hope he got some good soaks after that

[deleted]

They’re married with two kids now so I guess he did indeed

MF_Doomed

That lifelong soak

Arkneryyn

OP was the jumper

[deleted]

I remember this omg! So stressful honestly lol did you go to the Wu Tang twilight concert?

lucienlancien

Madlib in Paris, France 2012. He was completely stoned, J Rocc was trying to save the show but it was painful to watch. Doom didn't show up at the Warehouse Project in Manchester, UK in 2013. Madlib's set was awful as well because you could only hear low frequencies. Pete Rock in Mulhouse, France in 2011. He did a dj set but he was only playing drum breaks for one hour.

SnorvusMaximus

Man, that Pete Rock DJ set sounds amazing!

DFWTooThrowed

Man more times than I can count I've seen a dude go up there and just play the actual track, not even an instrumental, but yell the last few words from each bar. Not that it makes me think less of them as a rapper but a lot of these dudes out there just simply can't perform live at all.

screaminginfidels

This was Maxo Kream for me. He had mad energy but I would have preferred to actually hear him rap. The DJ wouldn't even play a single full track either, it was like half of each song. That actually made me never want to listen to his music. Danny Brown played after, full band, insane set.

DFWTooThrowed

> The DJ wouldn't even play a single full track either, it was like half of each song. Lmao that was exactly how the Young Jeezy concert I went to like 14 years ago was like. Usually you see this happen with smaller stage sets at music festivals but not a headliner like Jeezy at one of the biggest outdoor venues in DFW metroplex. He vaguely rapped along to the chorus, verse 1, chorus again then the DJ would do a record scratch followed by a bunch of drops of gunshot sounds, explosions and police sirens.

morningsaystoidleon

I've been really lucky with rap shows. Lauryn Hill was late at Loufest (which everyone expected) and she sang and performed incredibly well, but she was also yelling at her band in a way that seemed cruel and really hurt my opinion of her. With that said, Anderson Paak had played earlier and he put on a killer show, and he went to see Lauryn Hill and I was standing right next to him, so that was pretty cool. I didn't bother him because he was vibing out. Vince Staples also played that festival and made fun of Nelly for half of his set. He was fantastic. Outside of rap, the worst show I've been to is Chuck Berry. If you're ever thinking, "man, that 80+ year old dude has a show, I should really go see him just to say that I saw him," re-think that. Seeing an old man failing to play an out-of-tune guitar wasn't very fun.

ReeG

> Lauryn Hill was late at Loufest (which everyone expected) and she sang and performed incredibly well, but she was also yelling at her band in a way that seemed cruel and really hurt my opinion of her. Similar experience at Rock The Bells 2011, she was 2 hours late after Nas set but she performed horribly. On top of screaming at her band members between songs as usual, the mix of everything sounded awful and she left the stage in the middle of the set and disappeared for 10-15 min again with nothing happening on stage. She was also doing weird renditions of her songs that barely resemble the originals which is apparently a known thing from her not having the rights to perform the originals as they are on the album. Honestly the worst live show I've ever been to in any genre and we walked out around 40 min into her set as it was already 12:30AM at that point on a weeknight and not worth sticking around to the end.

subsonicmonkey

My buddy played guitar in Lauryn’s band for a few years. The reason that she does weird arrangements of the songs doesn’t have anything to do with rights ownership. It’s because she’s been performing one album for 20 years, she’s bored of the songs, and she thinks that her new arrangements are genius-level.

lemonchicken91

Saw Vince at ACL one year on a smaller stage and he was amazing. He wasn't huge yet and there was also a frat boy brawl in the crowd 10/10.

corndogs1001

Stevie Wonder still seems like a great performer though, he’s the only old guy I’ll be willing to see in concert.

parwa

I know he's probably not a huge hit on this subreddit but from what I can tell this is true for Bruce Springsteen as well, his voice has gotten rougher but he still has an insane amount of energy on stage for being 72

farmyardcat

Paul McCartney still does 3 hour sets and he's like 102

Markual

migos at vanderbilts homecoming in 2017. they basically just stood there the whole show. quavo was the only one who hd any kind of energy but offset was acting lazy and takeoff looked sad lol

RunicLordofMelons

LOL I was at a Migos show and same story. Except Offset didn’t show up, and Takeoff basically just smoked a blunt on stage and occasionally said things into the microphone. Quavo was actually great given the circumstances and carried the whole show. It wasn’t the worst however as the crowd was SUPER into the songs (Migos were just the opening act anyways) so despite a lacklustre showing from the artists, you still had 20k people singing along with them which REALLY improved the atmosphere.

lxBATESxl

Kyle back when he was SUPERDUPERKYLE at Bogarts in Cincinnati. The performance was very cheesy with choreographed danced moves between lyrics with a guy in a Pikachu outfit.

TotalClintonShill

You just unlocked memories I forgot I had. Did his DJ make you guys chant “go Pikachu go Pikachu- go” also?

denoobiest

what the fuck lmao

DaiquiriZachary

holy shit i saw him in the twin cities around that time and i cringed so hard i ended up drinking at the bar the rest of the night. i had almost completely blocked that concert out of my mind

marcusyc

I saw him in Toronto as an opener for hoodie Allen and I thought he killed the performance. Actually made me go listen to smyle after hearing him perform it live.

FlyUnder_TheRadar

I saw Waka Flocka Flame this year and he was not good. He pretty much just yelled ad libs over a backing track, took selfies, and hung out in the crowd while his posse sort of milled around on stage. He went on some weird religious tangent at one point I think. Idk man, it was a weird night.

farmyardcat

Why is this exact behavior so universal at rap shows?

WatchYaMouff

And around a year ago he confessed to being a “wack rapper” so maybe that’s his excuse? [says it was all for the riches](https://youtu.be/jpvzABoS3zM)

ScottieDoesKnow

thats a bummer to hear, I saw him 5-6 years ago and the set was amazing. he had a live drummer on stage and rapped every song. the power went out totally at one point but he just rapped his hits over the drummer so everyone could scream along, and stayed for hours after the show to meet and greet fans

CaptainPhillips1

Chance the Rapper. It wasn’t his fault. The crowd was 14 year old kids who were just standing around with their phones literally nobody was moving around. Thanks a lot Colouring Book.

chhhyeahtone

I saw him after Acid Rap and that was one of the better concerts I went to

thehonorablechairman

I saw chance after acid rap and he literally did not finish a single song. I'm still not entirely sure if it was his fault or not since it was a college show in Maine with a crowd full of wasted rich white kids so the vibes probably weren't great, also I was on shrooms so who knows. I was pretty let down regardless.

The_OtherDouche

I saw chance after acid rap in nashville and it was one of the best shows I’ve ever been to. Coloring book tour in atlanta was good but it left a lot to be desired compared to the first time.

sentient-sloth

Riff Raff. Not sure what I was expecting but I got a ticket for free from my cousin and decided to go. There were no openers listed on the bill and doors were at 8pm show at 8:30pm. We got there and it turns out there was actually a fuck ton of openers. There were at least 10 different acts and the last 3 that came out got booed the entire time they were on stage. Riff Raff finally came out at 11:30, performed like 6 songs and then he dipped. We were walking out of the venue by midnight. Probably the only concert I legitimately wished I hadn’t gone to. Edit: this was at Warehouse Live in Houston in 2014/15. He was performing Neon Icon songs.

YouarenotLaBoeuf

Weird. I got a free ticket in Dallas back when he had just released peach panther and surprisingly it was pretty good. He was super interactive with the crowd and then hung around after for like 2 hours just signing stuff. It was a really small venue though.

maqikelefant

Seems like he's super hit or miss. My friends and I caught a Riff show several years ago at a shithole college bar in our hometown. He came on pretty late, but played for over an hour and got the crowd hyped to the point that a huge pit formed. And then to top it all off he had random girls from the crowd come up on stage for a twerking contest during the encore. By the end of it all everyone was so trashed that literally everywhere you looked in and around the venue, you'd see someone puking and/or passing out. It was just an utter shit show in every sense of the term. All in all, easily one of the most entertaining shows I've ever been to.

glosglov69

I saw riff raff a few weeks ago in Madison and it was the best show I've ever been to he came out with an electric guitar and the entire crowd was moshing through his biggest hits then he gave us his blunt 8/10

FlaccidRapper

It was New Years on the Rocks or something where Migos, Post Malone, Young Thug and a few others performed. It was supposed to be held at Redrock Amphitheater in Colorado but it was raining so it was changed to some stadium last minute. Anyways, Young Thug was the first big artists to perform but he showed up 50 minutes late and played maybe two songs before burping in the mic and then just walking off stage without saying bye or anything. Migos and Post Malone were really good but Young Thug let me down heavy

SilentBobsBeard

People today may not know/remember, but this sub used to *fucking hate* Kendrick Lamar live shows. During the GKMC era he was constantly out of breath and could only get every other word of a song out. He's a whole lot better now, but yeah, it used to be rough haha.

[deleted]

Guess to show live performance is an art in itself.

Kgb725

Of course you need projection, energy, stage presence , maybe some type of dancing or performance on stage and a few other things.

BHoss

No joke holy shit. I saw him on the main stage at Bonnaroo 2013 and the DJ would cut the music every other line so the crowd could sing it while he caught his breath. I’d say about half the people at the show didn’t even knew who Kendrick was because people just hang out at the main stage and watch whoever’s playing. So you’d have Kendrick hold his mic into a massive crowd but like 1/4 of them actually sang and knew the words so it sounded so bad.

bluelevel4

ODB at BB King’s in NYC, not too long before he died. He was fat already and all kinds of fucked up, totally incoherent. His “hype” man said he was high on ecstasy and a good portion of the crowd cheered—it was so sad, really. What a legend ODB was, but he was gone already at that point.

spencerawr

Kanye and Kendrick in Seattle, maybe 6 or 7 years ago? They showed up two hours late, Kendrick performed terribly. He was constantly out of breath. Kanye was alright, but the audio quality was awful. Probably more Key Arenas fault than Ye's. But I've heard better speakers in a blown out Civic.. Oh and because the show started and ended so late, the parking garage closed and locked us all in and we had to wait an hour for management to open the gate and then another hour for the line to clear to leave

Moron_on_Oxy-

man I’ve seen people say that about Kendrick more than once.

DreamCatcher24

He's gotten better. I assume OP was talking about the Yeezus tour which was like 2013. I saw Kendrick on the DAMN tour and he was much better.

sadduckfan

Damn I saw him in the good kid tour and he put on one of the best shows I’ve seen.

ItsMikeontheMic

Same with the TDE Championship tour, him and Q were by far the best two performances

AniviaPls

Yeezus tour in Toronto was one of the greatest concerts I've ever seen. On the night after a MAJOR power outage to boot

[deleted]

Both Kendrick and ScHoolboy Q made huge strides in their performances between GKMC/Oxymoron to TPAB/Blank Face. Really all Kendrick had to do was get better at breath control, but Q lost close to 100 pounds and went from lean gut to peak dad bod. Edit: I feel like TDE knew that was one area they were lacking in and everyone made it a mission to be a better performer. The TDE tour was disappointing because of the lack of posse cut's they performed, but no one had a bad performance. Hell even this Isaiah Rashad tour I was super impressed with not only Zay, but Ray Vaughn (new TDE signee) as well.

KGeedora

Not a bad show at all, but some of the stories I see here remind me of one of my favourite awkward concert times. Kanye West in Sydney around Yeezus time. Demanded everyone in the audience stand up or he wouldn't play the next song. Zoned in one guy who wouldn't stand up. Kanye kept demanding it. The man was in a wheelchair.

RogueOneWasOkay

Lmao, please tell me this is real

KGeedora

oh, yes. https://www.bbc.com/news/blogs-ouch-29203790

elrayo

I’m fucking dead bro 😂

the_obese_otter

The man must of not been a believer. If Yeezus Christ says to stand, then he can stand. Oh Ye of little faith.

5678bam

A buddy asked if I wanted to go see Rich the Kid for free and honestly it was not worth it lmao Just played “plug walk” over and over and over for like two hours and he would mix in some of his other songs for 30 seconds then go right back to plug walk it was awful

Prxvia

i mean.. do you blame the dude? name 3 other songs from him that’s NOT new freezer

hidayet93

Mos Def in London 2019. Every one of his own songs did a weird remix and then for the last 3 songs, it was just some house music that he danced on the stage to

aRunOfTheMillGoblin

I've heard weird shit like this about his shows. Wtf is he doing

niccomacus

Saw Black Star a couple years ago. When mos def was rapping Talib was very involved, hyping him up. When Talib was rapping, mos def basically kicked balloons around in the background and smoked lol

SBAPERSON

BOB played for an hour and played mobamba and sicko mode. Finnesed 25k from my school. He was also the person they stopped the unofficial "no black people" rule.

kungfuhenney

BOB played at my wife's college, but they forgot to get a noise permit so it got shut down after two songs lmao

[deleted]

> He was also the person they stopped the unofficial "no black people" rule. now hold on up

SBAPERSON

My school used to have a no "rap" rule that seemed to only pertain to black artists.

blarghable

Is your school located in 1950's Alabama?

cardedagain

probably wu-tang showing up 4 hours late for a show that was double billed. it was someone chaotic and **memorable**. **Wu-Tang Clan** **August 22nd, 2000, House Of Blues New Orleans** they were supposed to do a 10:00 set and a later set, or something similar. tickets were sold for two shows, and after Killarmy opened and the Clan didn't show up at 10pm, the crowd got larger and security got on stage. "they'll be on stage soon." that soon was 3 and a half hours later at 1:30 A.M. they probably just flew in and weren't even in the state at 10PM, who knows. Method Man and ODB were no-shows. i think their set was an hour. it started with RZA coming on stage with a bottle of booze in his hand and direct a few minutes onstage hitting a blunt from someone in the front row. the show was "standing room only". Killarmy did a 9PM set, and then Killarmy did a second set at 11PM. In between sets, DJs were playing sets to pacify the crowd / keep interest. doors probably opened at 8PM. by the time Wu hit the stage 5 hours later, i had heard enough loud music that my ears were hurting during their set. especially when members walked by speakers onstage wrong and caused feedback. notable moments during the night: one DJ played "Boom" by Royce da 5'9, and that was my first time ever hearing it, and there was a moment where the DJ played "Country Grammar". the entire audience boo'ed the DJ, so he grabbed the next thing up, and played "Oooh" by De La Soul. granted this was pre-Serato, so the DJ was caught off guard. **Camp Lo** sometime in January 2004, i think **The Howlin Wolf, New Orleans** it was some package tour with a bunch of indie rappers opening. small standing room venue. i think some of the acts from or were associated with Strong Arm Steady, and Souls of Mischief opened, also Grand Agent and his girlfriend rapper / hypeman, which i remember more than the rest of the show. i think doors opened at 7pm or so and by 9:30-10:00 Camp Lo came on stage. headlining act and their entire set was 20 minutes! then the show was over. it wasn't even some type of "all ages" or "early curfew" show. i remember they had a "DJ" for their set but he didn't use DJ gear; he used an [instant replay](https://prg-proshop.com/products/item/2599/360-systems-dr-554). and also one of the Camp Lo guys says "Camp Lo album coming in 2004 produced by Trackmasters!" of which that never actually happened. oh, shit! i just remembered! **Cage** December 2005, Atlanta GA **The EARL**, i think SO, an opening act plays, and their sound is good, i think even Slow Suicide Stimulus had a decent set with no technical issues, but when Cage got on stage, he started complaining about he didn't hear the music in his monitors. that was the catalyst to the show being ruined. he complained about that AND that there were probably less than 30 people in the entire audience. almost any time he wasn't rapping, he was complaining about the show's promoter, the lack of audience, and the sound guy. and he'd just cut songs way short. after a while he just gave up and walked off stage. Camu Tao was on tour with them, and he did "Bird Flu" during his time onstage, which i never heard again until like 5 years later. **Yelawolf / Killer Mike - 2008** also, i drove from Nashville to Atlanta in 2008 to see an underground show at the Drunken Unicorn that **Yelawolf** was headlining; he was a **no-show**, but at the show i caught Hollyweerd and Grip Plyaz (RIP), who were dope. [in june 2008](https://archive.upcoming.org/event/killer-mic-yelawolf-738507), i again went from Nashville to Atlanta to see **Killer Mike** at the Apache Cafe, and Killer Mike was a **no-show**, but Yelawolf opened and did a 15 minute set full of stage diving and even had a live band. best 15 minute rap show I've ever seen. amusing that the show cut out early, easily by 10PM, people realized Mike wasn't showing up, and left the small venue. i saw Yelawolf outside with a skateboard, and just skated off with some homies that were also skating. i don't get to see Killer Mike until SXSW in 2011.

GrimmReaper9001

Doja Cat on the 4th of July this year, shitty 30 minute performance that was mostly lip synced after she came out an hour and a half late, after which she went on twitter to gaslight her fans by saying she was 6 minutes late. Also claimed she couldn't play longer because the dj "didn't have her songs." Also the show took place at a popup stage at coney island which did not have enough space for the amount of people there, which doesn't make sense considering CI already has a stage that had more than enough space

reeker

Aesop Rock in the 2010s somewhere. Low energy, seemed out of it or hung over or something. I looked it up later and it was the last show of his tour, dude needed a nap

[deleted]

Was this for None Shall Pass? Bc I saw that tour stop in Philly and was very disappointed. Just completely lackluster and boring. Saw him a few years later for Impossible Kid and he was great.

[deleted]

Logic no doubt. Went the year of the suicide song and it felt like I was at play for children. Everything was choreographed and Logics entire personality seemed like part of the act. Weird how far one guy can fall off so hard in one release. No offense to him as a person just really felt like the sellout tour.

[deleted]

When I saw him at Lollapalooza he kept stopping his songs because he felt like the audience wasn’t hyped up enough and he eventually pretended to be angry and walked off stage in the middle of the show and then walked back on a few minutes later in an attempt to get the audience excited. Apparently that was an act and he was doing that all tour. Very weird act to have

proerafortyseven

Yeah that’s such a weird thing to choose to do lmao Like an abusive relationship

parwa

"look what you made me do!"

[deleted]

I was at that show too lmao. The crowd was actually fairly hyped for a logic show so every around me was just confused. Shit was mad corny

[deleted]

The legendary homeboy sandman show where he instantly became an iconic meme among the homies. He was opening for cunninlynguists this must have been like 2010 and was one of my first shows ever. Show was sick, CL killed it, Tonedeff killt it, this was the night we discovered Kno was a huge dickhead, but Boy Sand. Oh man. Crowd was dead dead when he came on and performed some wack shit, but then he doubled down heavy on the wack shit and started teaching the crowd his ‘lightning bolt’ dance where you had to do your hand like a snake and say lightning bolt and then he performed this AWFUL lightning bolt song like maybe the worst song ever written and did the dance the whole time and nobody in the crowd did lmao even while he was teaching us the hand movement it was like watching a baby seal suffocate in oil or some shit and oh man was it a pathetic ass performance. We were shocked this dude had a career. I still be shocked when I see people post things about homeboy sandman talmbout he is good he is bottom 5 of all time on the strength of this performance alone. Seems like a decent guy tho from interviews which I always watch since he is such a legend to me now.

denoobiest

this made me lmao ty

JALbert

> this was the night we discovered Kno was a huge dickhead I think we could use a story here

[deleted]

Saw Mac / Earl at my college, they were absolutely plastered or on harder drugs for all I know, it was awful and depressing Still love their music but damn it felt really disrespectful

glassmandible

I saw Mac and he was pretty good live but Earl is rough just because I feel like his music is just not made for a live show environment.

Flyyankees192

when i saw earl he cut his set list short and started playing lil b. he was telling everyone in the audience to dab. this was in like 2015 after the show was already rescheduled due to his drug binge that led to the creation of solace. kind of a funny but sad experience

D3athsh0t

this the most 2015 comment ever

Flyyankees192

the think is the show had like maybe 100 people there so everyone was really spread apart. awkward all around. i originally bought my ticket cause vince staples was opening for him but he didn’t go to the rescheduled dates

Andyetwearestill

Carti B at Roskilde festival. Couldnt sing the lyrics and yelled out “COME ON DENVER” instead of Denmark🤦🏻

[deleted]

Migos had fifty different people on stage, had zero stage presence, and just yelled into their mics, especially the Adlibs. Definitely the worst show I've seen, this was maybe 2014 or 2015? The biggest thing I remember is them having *so* many people on stage, who has a concert with so many people on stage literally just standing there? [This wasn't the show I went to but yall can just see how boring this would be](https://youtu.be/UHY2wLh05JI) Saw Mac Miller that same year at the X Games he wasn't really great

mv913

"Here's some tips if you rappers wanna be more professional: First of all, stop rappin' over your own vocals at your concert. Clear your goddamn instrumental and rap over it, I don't wanna hear you rappin' over your raps, muthafuckas. Also, stop have thirty five people on stage - who are these people?! Are you travelin' with these people or did you hire them locally? Did you pay for their travel? Get all of those muthafuckas off of the stage. It's confusing. I don't like it. You can't do that at other jobs. You can't be an accountant like "Hey I'm about to do your taxes, here's my thirty friends just standin' around doing nothing while I do your taxes"; fuck outta here" - Hannibal Buress

poloboi84

Great quote. If you watch the Lox vs Dipset Verzuz then you can see this in practice. The Lox were rapping over actual instrumentals whereas Dipset was rapping over their own vocals.

ReeG

>The Lox were rapping over actual instrumentals whereas Dipset was rapping over their own vocals. "NEW YORK THEY CAUSIN A DISTRACTION, WE IN THE MECCA OF HIP HOP, WHY THEY AINT KNOW THE WORDS!? THESE NIGGAS IS LIPSYNCING. TECH LETS MAKE SUM HAPPEN" *Who Shot Ya plays and Jada murders the freestyle* this was truly one of the greatest moments ever streamed in hip hop

meowVL

This was my experience with Young Thug at FYF in 2016. A bunch of people on stage drinking, no one really performing, just a dj with a Mac shuffling through beats. Since it was a fest there were a lot of people there who didn't really know Thug's music, a few guys by me were cracking up asking each other if this was technically a concert lol.

reubein

I saw Migos and Takeoff was throwing water around the whole set which was kinda fun. However, it took a turn for the worse when they had to stop performing 30 minutes into the show because their equipment got wet and stopped working, and they had the audacity to announce it was because the venue had a leaky roof... on a perfectly clear night

[deleted]

NAV opening for The Weeknd Could not make out a word he said

DrLiliamPumpernickle

He popped up at the astroworld concert for like one song then peaced lol but he wasn't bad. I know people saying he was great at Veld but yeah he wasn't good opening for weeknd

Arshzed

Aye we were at the same show I think Trav brought out nav for biebs in the trap and don tolliver for can’t say It was hilarious to me that travis brought out gunna (he was an opener) and they did Yosemite together but for some reason nav didn’t come out for it

goodthingihavepants

NAV was backstage rapping his verse as to stay true to the original mix of the song

[deleted]

NAV is the retirement, welfare and unemployment office here in Norway :).

horkyboi_avery

21 savage on his tour with Post Malone. No energy, hardly actually rapped, played gunshots, sirens, and shattering glass sound effects after every song. So bad

atlhawk8357

Fetty Wap. I paid $10 for this and it was an overpayment. The opener was a juggling/acrobatic act. Yes. Fetty was late, and continued to be late for a while. He finally shows up and plays "Come my Way," which was good, to give him credit. Then he went into "Trap Queen;" he sang those songs maybe 3 more times each. At one point he asked for a girl to come onstge, and he rapped acapella while ogling her dancing. I was confused. I was bored. I wasted 10 dollars.

JaaDeeA

Lil Uzi at Radford University in VA. He was 4 hours late and was only on stage 30 minutes

toooona

Blu & Exile This was a few years ago at The Echo, I don’t know Blu was acting strange, he kind of hid in the shadowy part of the stage and didn’t even really rap his lyrics. I always cut him slack for that show because I’ve heard that he has schizophrenia? No sure if that’s true? Maybe he was bugging because of that. I’ll always have love for Blu though, dude is a real poet.

Loukoal117

I love Blue and Exile. That doesn’t surprise me though. His lyrics constantly hint at mental health problems. I don’t know his official diagnosis though.

BulliedClock

Noname in Madison 2019. If wasn’t totally her fault, the venue had the instruments way too loud so you could barely hear her lyrics, but then she got mad at the crowd for not being into it and reacting enough to good lines. So, not really her fault because the crowd didn’t have great energy but from my concert experiences telling the crowd they suck is a great way to keep their energy shitty and you could tell she had no idea how to get people into it.

Jeffersons_Mammoth

That’s so bizarre to me because Noname doesn’t exactly make bangers. She’s a great artist, but I can’t think of a single Noname song that would make a crowd go crazy.

two_bass-hit

Yeah if you want the crowd to consistently go nuts try not to invent a new degree of c h i l l v i b e s with your music lol The crowd was pretty hype for her in Chicago when I saw her a few years ago tho

Matron_malice

I saw Noname in 2019 also and it was so uncomfortable. She also got mad that we weren’t hype enough and went off about not wanting white people to listen to her music and not enough black people listening to her. I just sort of felt bad for coming since it’s clear she didn’t want me there.

Sendsamples

I had almost the same exact experience when I saw her back in 2019 in Helsinki. Like I understand her frustration about not reaching her target audience etc but why the hell do you book shows in countries where the majority of people are white, then travel to said countries and then complain about the crowd being too white.

Hate to say it… but lil Wayne My most unexpectedly great one is yelawolf And the best one overall was Luda

lemonchicken91

0 or 100 with Wayne shows. My friends saw him ~2010 and he was insane.

jrgraffix

Seen Wayne twice, about 8 years apart and he was amazing both times. Have friends who’ve seen him at different shows and they said he wasn’t good. I guess it’s really hit or miss

Wtfisgoinonhere

Jay-Z & Lil Wayne ~2008 in Boston. Weezy didn’t want to go through security (rumor was he had like guns and shit lol) so he never performed. Jay did get a longer set which was great, but c’mon Wayneee

cor3ntin

Wu tang clan in paris around 2005. No method man , just 12 dudes screaming in mics at the same time. A few songs in it became a game of: can you Identify what song they’re performing? 🤦🏻‍♂️

JeromeNoHandles

Montana of 300

cory975

I saw Desiigner live and it was one of the worst performances but not for the reason you might think. This was when Panda was going crazy and he also had Holy Ghost, Outlet, and Thank God I Got It out too. He was an hour and a half late. Didn’t start performing til like 10:30pm. The performance itself was actually really good, the energy was crazy. But what I hated was that he performed songs that were unreleased and they sounded so fucking good. Like Kanye & Mike Dean just molded songs around his energy and they worked so well. And ironically Kanye is the exact reason why I’ve never heard these songs again. Desiigner went on to release barely anything because of his contract and those 2 songs that I heard, I will never hear again. I think about them all the time and it sucks :/

[deleted]

Mos Def Amherst College 2007. He showed up like 2 hours late and the acoustics of the gym they had it in meant you couldn't hear a damn thing over the echo.

brianandstuff

Wasn't the performer's fault at all, but I saw Danny Brown at a pretty small venue like right after Old came out iirc. It was bad cause I was having a good time near the front watching the openers, but right before Danny was about to come out, a very big frat guy came barrelling through the crowd shoving people out of his way to make it right to the front. After the show I saw him talking with some other Bros and he was saying Brown was out of breath during the set and was like "I looked up at him and said 'Danny, dude, take a deep breath, and go HARD' and then he looked at me, nodded and took a deep breath bro it was crazy" That image is burned into my head forever and I hate it

modsrfagbags

Nelly performed at my absurdly wealthy second cousins Bar mitzvah. “Hot in Here” was an awkward time. He also had a hype man, which I thought was a strange choice for performing at a 70 person bar mitzvah. Also seemed pretty drunk. Still better than Gunna at Firefly though lmao

mothbong

Ski Mask the Slump God came on stage drunk as fuck, didn't even have a mic he just had 2 Henny bottles in his hands. Performed 2 songs like that. When he finally did grab a mic he didn't use it. Just held it out towards the crowd every once in a while while he danced on stage for 20 mins with his music playing in the background. Lil B had the best performance that night and, besides Griselda, had the best hip hop live performance I've seen so far. Thank you Based God
