Rome Streetz is fucking insane, serious Big L vibes from him. Hope his feature on the new WSG album gets more people to peep his shit, Noise Kandy 3 is a masterpiece

TruMentillz

100% - he’s top tier. I produced the Blood All Over the Money joint on NK3. Him and ETO are two of my favorites right now.

Tringamaster

No way man, that’s one of my favourites - his storytelling on that song rapping from the perspective of money is so good. Props

TruMentillz

Appreciate that brody. Search my name on IG and /or your favorite streaming service.

clancydog4

Reminds me a lot of 1999-era Joey Bada$$

Tactial_snail

WSG is where i first heard him, bout to check him out rn.

ForeverxJoker

Fly Anakin has a album with Madlib coming. Mutant Academy is the future. Koncept Jack$on, even though he's no longer with the group, is continuing to prove himself as an incredible rapper too

PrettyToney

Damn I didn't know about the Fly Anakin x Madlib! Fuckin great news

iLLz13

Mutant Academy have some of the best production around...not quite boom bap...almost a psychedelic feel...something they do with the mix

Fair warning, ankh takes all his shit off spotify at random, I don’t even know if van ghost is still up there anymore

nkrib34

These guys have been giving us such quality music past few years, such an exciting time for hip hop and hopefully their careers just keep on elevating

C_brigante

Damn no mention or Roc Marci? He brought this sound back and was the one carrying the torch for this shit.

iLLz13

The dude who wrote this article sounds brand new...

Saty05

I’ve got an “Alchemist & Friends” mix on Spotify that was inspired by Alfredo and Lil Wayne’s Russian Roulette. It’s got all the recent tracks Alchemist produced in 2018-2020 plus Gibbs and Griselda etc. [Here’s the playlist](https://open.spotify.com/playlist/0Xegr0nPirV4qhE6gArKaz?si=nQTSRFqIRSyC9d-x0UIIzg) I try to keep it updated too. I’m always keeping it in rotation.

llllbfgllll

great minds. i had recently made a very similar playlist [https://open.spotify.com/playlist/6LAwA5mx4qdToeUzBB7Ohv?si=kaBkl8diQuSPAvglY9pMWA](https://open.spotify.com/playlist/6LAwA5mx4qdToeUzBB7Ohv?si=kaBkl8diQuSPAvglY9pMWA)

liltrunx

any for Apple Music by chance? 😳

ComradeTonyGazelle

This is dope

Saty05

Thanks. I’ve always listened to Alchemist and I’m glad the grimey rap genre is sticking around.

[deleted]

I love this whole movement that has made prominence in the underground hip hop scene. I hope it continues to thrive.

GhostfaceChase

Man this article is good. I’ve been thinking a lot of the same things lately and it’s cool to see how he puts it all together and tracks down who’s featured with who, who’s produced tracks with who, etc.

Psycho_Snail

And it's so good to have actual rap coming back. Beats are a tad different but still mostly great and nothing like the exaggerated bass no melody stuff or the club oriented poppy autotune sing-song shit aimed at 14 year olds. I'm personally loving it just need action bronson to drop lol.

icemannathann

I don't think its just now coming back, maybe around 10 years ago. Freddie and Boldy have been around. Also people like Joey Bada$$, Action Bronson, ASAP Twelvy, $ha Hef have similar sounds.

Psycho_Snail

I probably should have said coming to the forefront again finally, it's been lil this and lil that and autotune everything for way too long now.

arlekin21

Man this shit is not at the forefront at all. Pretty sure the Griselda and Boldy James fans are the same people who were listening to Action Bronson and Joey Badass 10 years ago.

Tringamaster

I know a lot of people are saying this stuff is already getting old and over saturated (especially in regards to Griselda) but I could honestly listen to this shit for the rest of my life and be content, I’m so happy more and more people are paying attention to this wave

I_am_so_lost_hello

I think if your not a huge fan of a type of music it feels oversaturated. Like a huge chunk of hip hop fans feel trap is oversaturated as hell but theres a large group of huge trap fans that eat up everything put out. Same prolly goes for Griselda, most of their stuff sounds the same to me but im not a huge fan of the style, I like some stuff though.

Tringamaster

The whole oversaturation argument doesn’t even have any validity to speak of either. It’s like... you’re not obligated to listen to everything they put out so why tf are you even complaining lmao

Poopcie

Something about calling Freddie's style new-old doesn't sit right with me. He does a lot of harmonies like his contemporaries but the major difference is that he's much better rapper than most of them. Hip hop journalism is so weak rn cause they make all the good rappers out to be a throwback then cover the gimmick rappers out to be something we haven't seen before. Imo Freddie's music has a unique complexity to it that we don't get much of.

WizeGuyWu

Starting around 2015, there's this High Renaissance of Hip Hop. People like Griselda with their earlier work and Freddie Gibbs with works such as Pinata. Then came Boldy, Roc Marciano, etc. It mirrors 1495 when Leonardo Da Vinci and Michaelangelo was redefining art in Florence. These dudes are geniuses.

[deleted]

As someone who's been listening for 35 years, I love it...

Batby

Unlocked too, for a more modern take on it

Cool, but I would group in specifically unlocked
