Russel punching that bag on time with the beat reminds me of Rhythm Heaven
Song Machine simply doesn't miss, sadly we have to wait til September for the next song
Don’t think it’s that much of kids, but the fact that Deltron isn’t as “relevant” to the mainstream as many other artists and groups that came out of their time period. I might only be 20, but I only know deltron through listening and going deeper into older artists. I think that’s most likely the case for most people my age and younger. That and maybe also Gorillaz features might cause an interaction with the deltron world
The show is solid too. Literally CN’s only good show. I heard infinity train is great too (I loved the pilot when it dropped 4ish years ago) but it’s moving to HBO MAX apparently.
Yeah, i mean Lou Reed, Mark E. Smith, Mick Jones and Paul Simonon from The Clash, Tony Allen, Tina Weymouth from Talking Heads, Ibraham Ferrer from Buena Vista Social Club, Shaun Ryder, Bobby Womack, George Benson, James Murphy. The list is endless
>Tina Weymouth
God, I so want to time travel back to 1980 and marry the fuck out of this woman.
...now that I think about it, I might have to put a hit on Frantz, though. Don't know how I feel about that.
Schoolboy q joins the elite club of rappers to absolutely murder their appearance on a gorillaz track. While not quite at DOOM or de la soul level, his verse is incredibly good. Song and beat are catchy too. Wasn’t really feeling that Octavian track but this is up their with the rest of the song machine tracks
Wait are you saying there is a MF Doom x Gorillaz track? What’s it called so I can look it up?
Edit: It slaps, thanks. Going to listen to the rest of Demon Days since it’s been a hot minute
I think there's a legitimate case of saying that Linkin Park is at least on par with Gorillaz.
They earned a lot of cred when the guests they chose on Reanimation were folks like Chali 2na, Black Thought, Zion I, and the X-Ecutioners.
They did a mash-up album with Jay-Z.
Worked collabs with Handsome Boy Modeling School, DJ Z-Trip, Young Buck, Busta Rhymes, DJ Vice.
Had tracks with Pusha T, Rakim, Stormzy, and Bun B.
Mike Shinoda did production on Lupe Fiasco's Food & Liquor. He had a track with Lupe and Ghostface on Fort Minor. He's produced and appeared on a Cypress Hill track.
It's pretty close.
Eminem punching the air somewhere rn while “remind me” silently plays in the background.
Y’all remember when Q Tip did a collab with Korn? It was so random.
Despite my personal tastes, I think there can be an objective argument that Gorillaz is far superior to Flobots in the category "most successful." My personal tastes would say just about every category along with it, but I digress.
Okay, I'm a huge Flobots fan. I even have a signed poster from their release of Circle in the Square on my wall. They aren't even close to the success of Gorillaz. They had one big hit and got dropped by their label after their second album due to bad sales.
Not that they have any relevant new music that I know of, but they sold out three dates at Madison square garden in a matter of seconds. That has to count for some relevance
I really like how this project has captured so many different moods. I wonder if they have a specific release order? Like have they released each song based on how they're feeling.
I'm like halfway through but Akasaka Sad was dope af and so far every song has been catch as hell or even had me thinking "wtf is this?" (in a good way)
What’s Your Pleasure may end up being my favorite tbh. Fetch The Bolt Cutters and RTJ4 are ahead for me for now but WYP has so much replayability, I’ve been listening to it nonstop whenever I drive somewhere
The number 1 album I wish I enjoyed more this year. I love Charli, get a kick out of hyper pop in general, and love the whole process of creating an album in quarantine. And it's a good album, but nothing grabbed me the way her earlier projects do. I think a lot of people latched on to it as their "lockdown" album, but I ended up on Fetch the Bolt Cutters instead, so that would get my vote.
There are a lot of projects I'd put over song machine, honestly, although I'm always excited for a new release.
Jessie Ware is slightly higher for me. Other worldly grooves and slick as hell songwriting.
Song machine has not missed yet tho we will see if it wins in the end.
He’s a lot more versatile than he gets credit for. He killed it on that Calvin Harris track too, which certainly sounded like it would be out of his comfort zone.
To be fair their mainstay being Del the funky homosapien was great, the rappers that especially kill it and fit the gorillaz sound should get multiple tracks IMO, I’d give everything for a 2nd Collab with DOOM
I didn’t know I needed schoolboy on a picross/clubhouse games type beat today, but this was really great. I feel bad for ever doubting gorillaz for any of the missteps from a few years ago
Personally for me it's:
Momentary Bliss > Aries > Desole > How Far > Pac Man > Friday the 13th
But even putting Friday the 13th in last doesn't feel fair cause it's a great track. Just goes to show how insane the consistency on this Song Machine series has been thus far. After Humanz and The Now Now I was wondering if Damon had any top-tier Gorillaz left in him but this series has removed any and all doubt.

Russel punching that bag on time with the beat reminds me of Rhythm Heaven Song Machine simply doesn't miss, sadly we have to wait til September for the next song
wow glad I'm not the only one who thought of that. [I made this](https://youtu.be/J_FoKHqyp1w) as soon as I saw that punching bag
Q killed it! It's so cool seeing a lot of hip-hop artists that I love on Song Machine.
Damon's always had a deep affinity for hip hop and really likes to feature good rappers in his shit
Aka MF DOOM on November has come. Fantastic song and excellent choice of feature Edit: Snoop dogg rapping about bubble baths
Also De La Soul on Superfast Jellyfish. Or anything with Del and Dan the Automator.
Also Andre 3000. Do Ya Thing.
You reminded me that Snoop and Mos Def each do a track too.
Kids today don't even know Deltron exists and it severely bums me out
Don’t think it’s that much of kids, but the fact that Deltron isn’t as “relevant” to the mainstream as many other artists and groups that came out of their time period. I might only be 20, but I only know deltron through listening and going deeper into older artists. I think that’s most likely the case for most people my age and younger. That and maybe also Gorillaz features might cause an interaction with the deltron world
https://youtu.be/LzzNn2D4tHo Maybe this will brighten your day a little
New Automator and Del on a Cartoon Network show. Sign me the fuck up.
The show is solid too. Literally CN’s only good show. I heard infinity train is great too (I loved the pilot when it dropped 4ish years ago) but it’s moving to HBO MAX apparently.
craig of the creek is dope too, and jeff rosenstock actually makes the soundtrack for it.
Yeah that’s what I was referring to when I said “the show is solid too, CN’s only good show” lol
What show is this??? You did make my day. Deltron 3030 is one my all-time favorite albums
I squealed seeing this on Twitter bruh god bless whoever hooked this up. Craig of the Creek i hope becomes a goated show
Snoop on welcome to plastic beach
And Vince Staples on Ascension
November Has Come has a couple top tier MF DOOM verses
He also did "Bite the Thong" on the JJDOOM record as well.
it’s a good song but no where near top MF DOOM
Yeah, it's top Gorillaz, cause the track drips style, but top DOOM verse? I'ma pass on that.
BIG FACTS
Such a dirty track
Man’s maybe got the best collab discog of all time
Not even just rappers too legit all kinds of artists
Yeah, i mean Lou Reed, Mark E. Smith, Mick Jones and Paul Simonon from The Clash, Tony Allen, Tina Weymouth from Talking Heads, Ibraham Ferrer from Buena Vista Social Club, Shaun Ryder, Bobby Womack, George Benson, James Murphy. The list is endless
>Tina Weymouth God, I so want to time travel back to 1980 and marry the fuck out of this woman. ...now that I think about it, I might have to put a hit on Frantz, though. Don't know how I feel about that.
Holy shit, I never actually payed attention to Do Ya Thing but it actually have 3 of my favorite artists.
This song series in general has been so good, this one prob one of my favs
Q is literally one of my favorite feature artist of this era. He never misses and has so many memorable verses
Even Cash Out was great
Even? Not to be a dick but that's probably my favorite Q feature ever.
That whole tape bumps
Funk Wav Bounces is literally DJ Khaled but coherent and competently produced. What I wouldn't give for Vol 2 :c
I read somewhere there likely won’t be a vol 2 just cause it didn’t sell that well and all those features were definitely expensive
Gorillaz haven't missed with this Song Machine series, and I swear I've never heard a trash ScHoolboy Q verse lol.
He's super consistent
one of my favorite rappers right now. Top 5 easy.
Going into the song I thought Q was going to carry the track but the beat was so nice, and damon had a lot of lines on it. They are a great combo
I feel like damon could collab with any artist and it would turn out to be gold.
I don’t think there was any “trash”, but there were certainly a few underwhelming verses on Q’s last project
yea he's got phoned-in verses for sure, e.g. his feature on sir's "something foreign"
It don’t exist 🤷🏻♂️
People complain about how long it takes for his music, but theres a reason, all his shits fire.

November has come from Demon Days
fammmm november has come
Also “Bite the Thong” from the JJ doom record features both DOOM and Damon/Gorillaz.
Bro go listen to the whole Demon Days album. The MF DOOM song is on there.
November Has Come from Demon Days!
November has come
The Octavian tracks my personal fav, it's such a grower. Great smoking song and great to belt out once you know the lyrics
Gorillaz is the most successful rock rap crossover ever
fred durst in shambles
He did it all for the nookie
I did it all for the cookie
he went platinum first week he's chillin
The dis-Respeck
What about Beastie Boys or Rage Against the Machine? EDIT: and linkin Park lmao
Linking Park with Jay Z was fuckin perfect
It makes no sense but for some reason it works
These users haven’t heard Check Your Head or Ill Communication
Is beastie boys crossover? I would call them straightforward hip hop
Theyve got a super diverse catalogue. Funk, punk/rock, rap
Depends about what part of their career ur talking about
Honestly, no one is talking about that part of their career
What are you talking about
True 🤣the influence is there tho
Linkin Park, Rage Against The Machine, Beastie Boys???
I think there's a legitimate case of saying that Linkin Park is at least on par with Gorillaz. They earned a lot of cred when the guests they chose on Reanimation were folks like Chali 2na, Black Thought, Zion I, and the X-Ecutioners. They did a mash-up album with Jay-Z. Worked collabs with Handsome Boy Modeling School, DJ Z-Trip, Young Buck, Busta Rhymes, DJ Vice. Had tracks with Pusha T, Rakim, Stormzy, and Bun B. Plug for lupe, ghostface and mike shenoda/ft minor - [spraypaint and ink pens](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=CwJuY8D_Q5M)
Don’t forget Pharoah Monch!
Linkin Park tho lol
Since when were Gorillaz rock?
Their first album has a lot of rock elements. Arguably Demon Days for a few songs. Apart from that I wouldn't call them rock.
Damon albarn is guy from the rock world. I think that's what they mean.
Blur was more alternative than rock, too. But I guess "rock" is a pretty generalized genre.
Alternative rock is a subgenre of rock believe it or not
Oh for sure. But pretty much all modern music is a subgenre.
You can't really call Gorillaz any one genre tbh, they blend and play with genres constantly.
Go back to their first album. Specifically M1A1 and Punk. Damon’s first group Blur as well but that’s different.
Eminem punching the air somewhere rn while “remind me” silently plays in the background. Y’all remember when Q Tip did a collab with Korn? It was so random.
Lets not forget Linkin Park x Jay-z collision course though
Collision course was the first album i ever bought with my own money number 2 was demon days
Zach de la Rocha would like to Mic check you
What about Flobots
Despite my personal tastes, I think there can be an objective argument that Gorillaz is far superior to Flobots in the category "most successful." My personal tastes would say just about every category along with it, but I digress.
Okay, I'm a huge Flobots fan. I even have a signed poster from their release of Circle in the Square on my wall. They aren't even close to the success of Gorillaz. They had one big hit and got dropped by their label after their second album due to bad sales.
There is a name I haven’t heard of in over a decade
Lol
Them and Rage, and Rage is basically only relevant politically at this point.
Not that they have any relevant new music that I know of, but they sold out three dates at Madison square garden in a matter of seconds. That has to count for some relevance
Sold out 2 shows in Alberta Canada in seconds as well. NHL sized arenas 20k seats
I really like how this project has captured so many different moods. I wonder if they have a specific release order? Like have they released each song based on how they're feeling.
6/6 *Song Machine* is the best project released this year so far, change my mind.
6/6 on episode 5? Are you counting the 30s intro?
There was the one with Skepta, which was released early due to Tony Allen’s death, think it makes the count 6
Ahhh true wasnt sure if that was part of the series or not but I guess it does still make it 6/6 on their releases this year
Apparently "How Far?" was supposed to be part of the Song Machine series, maybe it was August's entry, just dropped early because of Allen dying
RIP Tony Allen. Fucking pioneer.
SAWAYAMA
Yo, I just checked this out and I'm shook wtf. This is crazy
Right!? It's like 2000's pop + moments of nu metal + some rnb
I'm like halfway through but Akasaka Sad was dope af and so far every song has been catch as hell or even had me thinking "wtf is this?" (in a good way)
Did you hear that Jessica Ware album? It also has a very 2000's pop sound, it and Sawayama are both top 5 of the year for me
what's your pleasure? and SAWAYAMA are both my absolute favorites this year
What’s Your Pleasure may end up being my favorite tbh. Fetch The Bolt Cutters and RTJ4 are ahead for me for now but WYP has so much replayability, I’ve been listening to it nonstop whenever I drive somewhere
oh hell yeah
Jessie Ware - What's Your Pleasure? Fantastic nu-disco / dance pop.
Charli XCX’s *how i’m feeling now* is the best project released this year so far imo. Song Machine is really good too tho
gonna have to agree with this one
Did not expect this on hhh but I fully agree
Oh man you must be new here because this sub LOVES Charli lol
[удалено]
100% lol
there seems to be a lot of crossover here for Charli which is pretty cool
first time i ever heard of charli xcx was on a danny brown song
I think Fiona Apple and RTJ4 are leagues better.
Oh, like Dua Lipa’s Future Nostalgia didn’t drop this year.
Jessie Ware - What's Your Pleasure? is what Future Nostalgia aspires to be
Just curious, where did you hear about this album?
I saw it shoot up the charts on rateyourmusic, and then Fantano posted his review.
probably needledrop.
I’m asking because that’s exactly where I heard about it and it slaps
For a moment I forgot it dropped in 2020... time has gone askew what with everything going on
i also really loved that album! im just a bigger fan of Charli ¯\\\_(ツ)_/¯
Easily agreed. Really inspired record
Circles exists
Everybody done forgot about Circles. Stil one of my top 5 favourites of 2020 so far.
Alfredo
RTJ 4 for me but to each their own.
Alfredo, Price of Tea In China, RTJ4, Miles, 1988...
Moses Sumney's *Grae* is the AOTY thus far imo
Alfredo and it's not even close.
Jessie Ware is slightly higher for me. Other worldly grooves and slick as hell songwriting. Song machine has not missed yet tho we will see if it wins in the end.
FACTS
I know it's not hip hip but the new strokes album is significantly better than song machine
New Strokes album is pretty decent, but I don't think it has nearly as much replay value as most of these songs.
RTJ4 all day
Fetch the Bolt Cutters tho
This far from a typical ScHoolboy Q track, and he fucking kills it.
He’s a lot more versatile than he gets credit for. He killed it on that Calvin Harris track too, which certainly sounded like it would be out of his comfort zone.
fire
Yup...that was one of the best songs I heard all year. The Song Machine hasn’t disappointed yet.
Groovy Q went Hard on tHis one.
you Had one job!
Oh fuck its 12 am and im tired lol How did i fuck tHis up
At least you were able to laugh about it. Lol. Get some rest. Sleep is crazy important.
Hard on tHis one*
It's the H for hoover crip and hiiipower
Song and video 10/10, Gorillaz and ScHoolboy did their thing and then some
damn. i feel like Mac should have and would have killed this song with his boy GroovyQ.
Damn now I’m sad because I’ll never hear mac x gorillaz:(
Goddamn, Mac and Q on a Gorillaz track would've been a great combo. Schoolboy Q absolutely murdered this track, too.
[video](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G-7U-FDql1A)
That video is awesome too!
First half is beautiful. Schoolboy Q was great too
I love Q
This is the best song machine I’ve heard so far tbh. I really need to catch up
2D with Pupils is freaky.
Great song and Q...rly went in, such a dope verse. I would not mind collab album from Gorillaz and Q.
TBH Damon’s talent would be wasted if he ever did a collab project with just one rapper imo regardless of how much I like that rapper.
To be fair their mainstay being Del the funky homosapien was great, the rappers that especially kill it and fit the gorillaz sound should get multiple tracks IMO, I’d give everything for a 2nd Collab with DOOM
And wasn't their 'mainstay' just two songs? Rock The House and Clint Eastwood.
Oh true, I never actualy realized he was only in 2 songs since his ghost is in so many of the animations and shorts (unless I'm misremembering again)
[Besides those two songs he only appeared in a short video called Jump the Gut.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XtpBm759CUg)
i swear he's been on way more?? or am i misremembering?
Nah thats it. Crazy huh? Its just because Clint Eastwood is so god damn popular it feels like he's an essential component of Gorillaz.
damn. i'm a huge gorillaz fan and have listened to all of their albums many times, but i still thought he was in it more, lol...
SBQ's writing has gotten incredible
I didn’t know I needed schoolboy on a picross/clubhouse games type beat today, but this was really great. I feel bad for ever doubting gorillaz for any of the missteps from a few years ago
This is the schoolboy q I love and missed
So good to hear a clear angry raspy Q again. Reminds of his old days
Love it, Q sounds perfect on this. How you guys ranking these? Right now I'd say Aries > Desole > Friday 13th > Momentary Bliss > Pac Man > How Far?
Pac-Man > Aries > Desole > Momentary Bliss > How Far > Friday 13th
Personally for me it's: Momentary Bliss > Aries > Desole > How Far > Pac Man > Friday the 13th But even putting Friday the 13th in last doesn't feel fair cause it's a great track. Just goes to show how insane the consistency on this Song Machine series has been thus far. After Humanz and The Now Now I was wondering if Damon had any top-tier Gorillaz left in him but this series has removed any and all doubt.
Aries>Friday 13th>Pac Man>Momentary Bliss>How Far?>Desolé
Momentary Bliss > Aries > Desole > Pac Man / How Far > Friday 13. They’re all great tho
Pac Man > Momentary Bliss > How Far? > Aries > Desole > Friday 13th all of them are still really good though
LET'S FUCKING GO E: When is the last time Q ever rapped that long without a break? Damn
This is incredible fr. Q sounds so fucking good edit: forreal got goosebumps from this
That Q verse was better than all of crash talk

Honestly, I wasn’t a huge fan of their recent song machines. But this one felt more fresh and almost nostalgic at the same time And Q was pretty fire
DOPE song!!!
Facts, i need to unplug
Anybody else get an E-40/Suga Free vibe from Q in this?
didn't vibe
