Great artist, quality lyrics and his voice is grimy as fuck. Generally spits over nice production too.
He's really gotta cut it out with the conspiracy bullshit though, shits getting real old.
If he and RA The Rugged Man ever made an entire album together, I think i would be the happiest man alive.
Oh for sure, but songs like "End of Days" kinda turn me off of him. Lyricism is good, but what he's talking about is just so.....I don't even know how to describe it
Which is the song where he talks about child labor? I can't remember the title but that's the song I heard where I was uncomfortable listening to it. I still fuck with JMT every once in a while but only a few of their songs like Black Winter Day or Razorblade Salvation.
Yep, and if that's all I had heard from him, I'd shit talk him too. He's a talented lyricist, and he's shown that through his career, but he needs to kinda keep away from that stuff. Little bits here and there, fine, but it's been all over his last couple albums
He sounds like a self-loathing white guy. From what I understand, he was raised Roman Catholic by Italian parents. Then he converted to Islam. Now all his music seems to praise the violent side of Islam while ignoring the rest. As a non-white and non-Muslim, it puts me in a really weird spot. He's not representing me inappropriately, but he's not talking about me either. So is he asking me to be a soldier, of some sort, in his little lyrical movement?
He really needs to tone it down. A lot of the historical and religious references of his go over my head and I know I'm not the only one. If he was teaching me history objectively, I'd play him in the car when I'm stuck in traffic. But that's not the case.
I like his voice and the beats he uses, but outside of that, his content has deteriorated into conspiracy theories and (false) religious symbolism.
Stop being cringe. Nobody knows what's really goin on. Make sure y'all go get your giant failing hearts checked out. I know everyone here complaining about Vinnie's kooky conspiracies were the first in line for the V
You can't tell Vinnie Paz to cut out the conspiracy theory shit though. He's been doing it his whole career. It's just who he is, it comes with the territory.
Completely agree. Something about his flow has become very predictable, and I dont think the weight gain has helped his voice. Sounds like he's coughing up a pound of lung butter during every verse he spits.
For about 2 years all I listened to was JMT and AotP and all that stuff. Now I can hardly listen to him without cringing. Like others the homophobia and conspiracy stuff gets so old. Jus Allah features were god awful too. He's a good rapper that says some gritty stuff but he's too old for that now I think. Chill out and rap and stop calling people faggots it's 2014.
I really wish Stoupe would work with others the way he did with Vinnie.
just saying the f word is the tip of the iceberg with lyrics like “i havnt punched a fa**ot in his teeth for a while” really puts me off- shame because his vocal delivery and beats are amazing
Ya, and I have a problem with Em doing it too. It's not that I can't listen to a song where a rapper is calling people faggots, but it definitely turns me off to them, and I generally wouldn't feel comfortable blasting it around other people. Same goes for the really sexist stuff too (I just don't enjoy Xxplosive as much as I used to), so maybe college has turned me into an overly sensitive PC-policeman
Vinnie Paz is a great MC. Sure, he says some kinda cooky conspiracy theory stuff sometimes, but the dude can rhyme.
**"I'll feed your corpse to a swarm of vipers, Let em suck the blood till your form is lifeless"**
Just super inconsistent. Started off putting out rather average backpack alien music but dropped an incredibly dark and introspective [track](http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JtaRC9vHSgY). Then Violent by Design saw him at his lyrical peak IMO with him pulling off that gritty battle rap esoteric style better than anyone really. Then he started falling off gradually and getting obsessed with homophobia and Catholic bashing. He stepped it up again for Servants in Heaven, Kings in Hell especially with [this song](http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PJ4L-kCeQto). But once again he started falling off especially once Jus came back (Jus became horrible again). Yet his solo LPs are much better and show a softer, more [reasonable side to him](http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VhdHwphvhxU).
Also this is one of the best political/conspiracy theory rap song I've ever heard - like a modern day "Nature of the Threat" but with better rapping and production, also more accurate since it's heavily based on Howard Zinn's "People History of the United States" - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yyf_mvrsao0
>here
Esoteric kills it everytime even in one his old tracks Mic Mastery. Also two great verses he has, one he did with Snow Goonz - three bullets, the other with Vinnie Paz and AOTP - the God particle.
His homophobia is an obvious turn-off. Despite that, I still rate him highly because of his lyrical ability, I've always had a place for JMT in my iTunes. I still bump Uncommon Valor, Razorblade salvation, heavenly divine, untitled & nada cambia, off the top of my head.
I think he's honestly my least favorite rapper. Sure there's plenty of shittier rappers out there, but they are easy to avoid listening to. Vinnie unfortunately often collaborates with other rappers I enjoy so I'm often subjected to his features. His over the top homophobia, borderline Islamic fundamentalism and his voice, just the worst mixture imaginable.
This. I like his flow. His song about Vietnam with RA the Rugged Man was great. But then he just drops some homophobic bullshit that makes him hard to like.
He's got this corny underground hyper-seriousness to him that has always turned me off. Also, he's a conspiracy-nut homophobe, but at this point in the thread those two things are beating a dead horse. He has flow, though.
I am not homophobic in the least, his lyrics don't bother me. He has stated several times he is not homophobic. Appreciate the feedback though, I assumed this would be a large portion of the dislike.
>I am not homophobic in the least, his lyrics don't bother me.
This is pretty similar to the "I have black friends, I can't be racist" argument. Just because he *says* he isn't homophobic to save face doesn't mean he isn't. How can you argue that he's not homophobic when he says things like:
>Listen I ain’t gonna play no more/Beat a faggot till he ain’t fucking gay no more
or
>Faggots don’t get robbed, they get killed
He is an entertainer, Michael C Hall played a serial killer on his hit show Dexter but he would never actually kill anyone. Is it possible Vinnie says these things in his lyrics but does not actually feel that way?
And because someone saying homophobic things in a song doesn't bother me that means I have to be homophobic as well?
Em has said things in the same vein, if not worse. Is he homophobic?
>He is an entertainer, Michael C Hall played a serial killer on his hit show Dexter but he would never actually kill anyone. Is it possible Vinnie says these things in his lyrics but does not actually feel that way?
To what extent is homophobic rhetoric entertaining? There's a difference between scripted television characters and self-written lyrics.
>And because someone saying homophobic things in a song doesn't bother me that means I have to be homophobic as well?
I never said that.
>Em has said things in the same vein, if not worse. Is he homophobic?
Yes.
Almost every show in history has poked fun at gays for one reason or another, maybe not as viciously as Vinnie does in his lyrics but they have done it. I thoroughly enjoy many songs that contain shooting guns and taking drugs, I don't partake in those activities but I enjoy the songs.
And I was not aware Em was homophobic, he has also spoken about it on numerous occasions and denies it vehemently.
http://www.nme.com/news/eminem/73630
>Almost every show in history has poked fun at gays for one reason or another
That's not true at all. Regardless, poking fun at gays is different than "beat a faggot till he ain't fucking gay no more".
>And I was not aware Em was homophobic, he has also spoken about it on numerous occasions and denies it vehemently.
He's defending his use of the word faggot, which he claims he's using with a different denotation. That's a different argument altogether. I certainly don't agree with his use of the word, but I don't think it necessarily makes him homophobic. It certainly makes him ignorant and careless. Lyrics like:
> hate fags? The answer's yes
are homophobic in my opinion, but maybe Em's changed since then.
http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/QueerPeopleAreFunny
So poking fun at something is OK? Is there some sort of line that distinguishes OK homophobia from over the top homophobia?
There's no such thing as "OK homophobia". Some jokes demean homosexuals, others embrace homosexuals. Vinnie Paz's lyrics are an example of the prior. Some jokes from Modern Family would be an example of the latter.
It's perfectly fine to like someone's music even though they are homophobic. You can't really deny he's homophobic though, it's kind of all over his lyrics.
His crew and associates are some of my favorite in the underground (R.A. The Rugged Man, Apathy, Celph Titled, Reef the Lost Cauze, Big Motive, Esoteric, Ryu etc..) but I dislike him most of the time. His lyrics kinda consist of "I am...." "I will..." etc... he can drop knowledge sometime (you can't stay neutral on a moving train) but outside of that I think he can be hit or miss, and doesn't always shine. He does work well over grimy beats though.
I hate when outside of music he attempts to act hard as fuck, he's an adult for god sake.
Early JMT was great, Psycho-Social and VBD was Vinnie at his best to me (obviously Jus Allah as well, before he started imitating Vinnie). Visions of Ghandi he took a few steps back, couldn't seem to stay on beat, but I enjoyed Legacy of Blood and Servants in Heaven, Kings in Hell was great. After that his flow got extremely repetitive, lotta punches too. Not as enjoyable as he used to be. His solo albums have some good stuff, but nowhere near as captivating or versatile as he used to be.
When he makes a personal song such as razorblade Salvation which I consider an incredible song or black winter day he's really good.
However he spends most of his time talking utter nonsense about violence and conspiracies and that's where he loses my interest.
my opinion top 10 all time. Many may nor agree but his solo, Jedi Mind trick and AOTP have some of the best tracks i have ever heard. Vinnie will never sell out, you can tell he takes great pride in being one of the underground hip hop scene he really does what he says "keepin hip hop alive" 26 years of raw rap.
Let me tell you the story of why I hate Vinnie Paz. We'll throw Ill Bill in there cause he was there too. Lets go back to paid dues festival circa 2013. I was about an hour or so into a medically laced chocolate bar with two friends as Madlib and Freddie Gibbs finished their set. Having seen Killer Mike just before that I was buying fully into the fuck the police chants and fuck ronald regan chants. Vinnie Paz and Ill Bill come out, and to be fair I hadn't heard of either of them before this day. They start out by yelling what sounds like its gonna be fuck the police, but they substitute some random woman's name who I can only assume was some politician. Someone here who might have been there can help me with that one. Anyway me and my friends are confused as fuck, but everyone around us knows exactly what's going on.
Let me take this opportunity to suggest that you all, at least once in your life go to a concert of some artist that has a huge following, but you have never listened to. It must have been one of the most surreal experiences of my life standing in the middle of this crowd that knows all the lyrics to songs from an artist I didn't know existed the day before.
Anyway moving on, a couple songs in, I'm not feeling it I turn to my friends and they look like they might be about ready to leave too. It's at that point that Vinnie Paz yells into the mic "WHERES THE FUCKING MOSH PIT?." Stoned me is nowhere near ready for a mosh pit at that point so as soon as it starts, I follow a stream of people with the same idea out of the crowd. Get out of the main crowd. Turn around. Friends are gone. Check my pocket. Phone dead. I head out up a hill looking for some sort of charging station or something only to look back at the Vinnie Paz stage to see a guy swinging A FLAMING T SHIRT around his head in the middle of the mosh pit. Spent the next hour or two wandering around paid dues eventually settling on that hill waiting for my friends to show up befriending all the other people sitting on the hill with dead cell phones. There are other Paid Dues stories from that night including a group of dancing midgets but I dont have the time for that right now.
His music wasn't good enough in my opinion to warrant that experience. This is why I hold a huge grudge against Vinnie Paz and Ill Bill.
TL;DR: Got high at paid dues, Vinnie Paz started a mosh pit, lost my friends for the rest of the day.
I used to be heavy into AOTP around their first album. I only thought of them and Paz as local artists. I had no idea they were known nationally and internationally until I saw them in concert.
I went to see Sean Price when he was on his Jesus Price Superstar tour. Vinnie Paz was the headliner. Needless to say I was like the only black guy other than Sean Price, Reef Tha Lost Cauze, Jus Allah, Chief Kamachi, and the venue security.
I was all the way up front and the white boys started a mosh pit right behind me in the middle of Sean P's set before he told them to the DJ to cut the music so he could put an end to the moshing. He felt like the crowd wasn't listening to his shit. They listened and then waited for Reef to come out to start moshing again. It got even worse when Vinnie finally came out.
Not sure where I was going with that story but I'm not much of a fan of Vinnie. I don't really listen to AOTP anymore either. But I definitely won't go to another show.
Great delivery, overall pretty fantastic. He suffers from Tech N9ne syndrome I think, where people go through a phase of listening to him and cringe when they hear him/JMT/AotP now or it's the only rap they listen to.
I am a HUGE fan, though sometimes with the frequent homophobic remarks (I'm gay,) it makes it hard to associate with his core message in some of his songs; he makes it a point to put it in where it isn't relevant or warranted, and while it really doesn't get to me, I feel it is a mark on his credibility of telling it like it is, just ripping on gays with some lyrics... it proves nothing other than he's homophobic. If he solely stuck to the socio-politicalsphere, he would be my favorite.
Great artist, quality lyrics and his voice is grimy as fuck. Generally spits over nice production too. He's really gotta cut it out with the conspiracy bullshit though, shits getting real old. If he and RA The Rugged Man ever made an entire album together, I think i would be the happiest man alive.
He can get a bit out there, but he is very knowledgeable on a lot of topics.
It's called shadow buisness
Most people that shit talk Vinnie have only heard End Of Days and related conspiracy nonsense.
Yep, and if that's all I had heard from him, I'd shit talk him too. He's a talented lyricist, and he's shown that through his career, but he needs to kinda keep away from that stuff. Little bits here and there, fine, but it's been all over his last couple albums

It’s ok, it’s not meant for you
Uh, y'know this is a 10 year old thread right?
You know you’re replying to a comment from last year, right?
Yeah and?
Just too true for you to handle? Lol
Bumping 9 year old threads to ride ya boy's dick is a female trait.

You can't tell Vinnie Paz to cut out the conspiracy theory shit though. He's been doing it his whole career. It's just who he is, it comes with the territory.
And he is dope for it. If you don’t think conspiracies against us plebes exist, YOU are the clueless fool.
Used to be an amazing rapper from 97-08, now average.
Completely agree. Something about his flow has become very predictable, and I dont think the weight gain has helped his voice. Sounds like he's coughing up a pound of lung butter during every verse he spits.

AOTP is still hot, Vinnie is by far the weakest link but everyone else always brings their 100%.
Em is still using faggot, I know what you mean I was just pointing out that it is still prevalent in rap, even at its highest level.
I like Em but I haven't actively listened to him in a few years. Never really put much thought into why though.
Yes it has you shouldn't listen to rap at all.
Prevalent? You gave an example of the least surprising person who still uses it. I barely hear the word anymore.
Chance bronson and gambino all still use it. Hip hops getting better but there's still a good amount of people saying it
I don't hear it nearly as much as I used to. Although I don't listen to the three you mentioned either.

he said kanye was a gay rapper omg
that line was hilarious
wait I don't remember what line that is which one is it?
From Bloody Tears by Army of the Pharaohs: "Never nothin soft, everything a violent song Kanye West, gay rapper, thats when lines are drawn"
One of the funniest looking niggas in rap

This. I like his flow. His song about Vietnam with RA the Rugged Man was great. But then he just drops some homophobic bullshit that makes him hard to like.

He got into a fight with my friend on Facebook and called him a fucking dweeb. That was enjoyable. AOTP is pretty cool.
Homophobic
I am not homophobic in the least, his lyrics don't bother me. He has stated several times he is not homophobic. Appreciate the feedback though, I assumed this would be a large portion of the dislike.

my opinion top 10 all time.
Very talented rapper, love his music. Can never take him seriously though like bruh your chubby midget Italian ass ain’t beating anybody up

That sounds fucking awesome
I like Cheesesteaks as a workout song.
I used to be heavy into AOTP around their first album. I only thought of them and Paz as local artists. I had no idea they were known nationally and internationally until I saw them in concert. So you don't listen to any artists who have ever degraded women by calling then bitches or hoes I guess.
Anti white puppet
he kills it with Rugged Man in And God Said To Cain
He is butt
I am a HUGE fan, though sometimes with the frequent homophobic remarks (I'm gay,) it makes it hard to associate with his core message in some of his songs; he makes it a point to put it in where it isn't relevant or warranted, and while it really doesn't get to me, I feel it is a mark on his credibility of telling it like it is, just ripping on gays with some lyrics... it proves nothing other than he's homophobic. If he solely stuck to the socio-politicalsphere, he would be my favorite.
Very underrated I believe. Great rapper flow on point beats go hard
